Just letting you all know that editing the build.prop in the system folder works for our lovely little Aria as well if you're running CM7.0.0 or above.
I assume that lets netflix run on aria? Or was your post title unrelated?
It was related. I have an Aria, and Netflix works fine.
What about other ROMs?
I have no idea. All I know is that it works on cm 7.0.0 and above.
What do you edit in build.prop? And why do you have to for Netflix? More specific please.

Those instructions won't work on the Aria. The build.prop will revert after rebooting unless you edit the file while the phone is in recovery.
I rebooted and it worked.
Take build prop out of cm zip edit it and put it and overwrite the one in the cm package then flash
Signatures are fancy.
Just curious, if you don't do this work around do you get the phone not supported message on the login screen? Because before I knew about this I could log in and select a movie or video no problem.
Signatures are fancy.
There's also a hacked API file running around on xda that doesn't require you to modify your prop file.. just install the APK file and go.

I would like this link as well.
I don't have the link but if you goto cyanogenmod forums under stable mod for the aria, its within the first couple posts. A guy there has a link there. I did the Mega uplaod and netflix is working great.
Here's the link to the one uploaded by AP:

I created a quick update.zip that just replaces the build prop with a new one with 2 changes:
The GB Signature is updated to GRJ22
The Model is changed to HTC Vision
This *SHOULD* allow you to install netflix. I'm testing it right now. First I have to uninstall the hacked version.
Does, in fact, work. Could not find it in the market though.
this hack is also working on my nook color

Blackrose, how did you install it?
I tried using Root Explorer to rename Vending.apk to Vending.apk.bak and then installing the file. I rebooted, but started getting FCs. I tried restoring the old Market but ended up needing to NANDroid. I am running Salvage Mod 9.6.
None of these are working.
Tried these and several others found around xda.. apparently its also being pushed to Nexus S. None of them work. Tried copying to /system/app and /data/app None of them in either place works.
Using stock 2.2 3.70 rooted rom.

I'm guessing it's because it was specifically designed for Gingerbread.
You have to push it via ADB..
ex..
adb push yourpathname\com.android.vending-1.apk /data/app

I pushed this one via ADB, and while it opens and things look ok, as soon as I tap on a product I get an FC.
Is there something that needs to be done to initialize it? I did clear all the market settings before trying it.
Solution
Its not really much of a solution, more like an insight.
The reason why no one can install the market is because you flashed a rom without the market, then installed a newer version of gapps. The newer version of gapps assumes you updated and still have the market apk installed. The gapps file only includes the apk to update the market app.
Flash an older copy of gapps and then boot your phone. Run the setup and then flash an updated gapps. You now have the updated market.
Also anyone that was having the home button not working issue, this resolves it. Home button stopped working as a result of the above issue. You may have to install a rooted stock rom and then flash cm 6.1.2 and then your kernel and then the gapps in the above order.

You can pretty much guarantee it'll be using 3.0-specific calls for things like the GPU acceleration. There's a lot of new additions in the 3.0 SDK that the 2.x libraries just don't provide.
If it can be made to work, it probably won't be very worthwhile. It'd probably pay to stick to Dolphin HD or Miren or something in the meantime.
If someone has the patience to hack out the non-2.2 compatible bits and make it go usefully, then I'm happy to be proven wrong of course.

updated for new flash, thanks Almighty1 for the edited libflashplayer.so that's been put into the latest flash from market
and added a zip of the modded .so file. i had no problem installing it though after i uninstalled the previous version of the apk.
You can use root uninstaller from market to uninstall some of those apps, such as flash, that come pre-installed on your phone. If you do it that way, make sure to do a reboot after you uninstall flash to make sure it uninstalls all the way.
compuw22c has also made a flashable version if you guys prefer.

Basically, you need to be root. Extract the files to your phone (system -> /system, data -> /data) and reboot. You need to have stock flash installed. It basically patches the libflashplayer on startup so you don't have to manually.

You need to use a File Explorer app to navigate to the camera.apk that you load and install it from there rather than use it to overwrite the old camera.apk that was there. I think that is what you did? You can have both .apks there at the same time. Shouldn't conflict.

Not sure why it is difficult to install. You can try off the Market, Camera360, another app that worked well for me. I just tested it again on my phone and it works. I used to use it when I was on Froyo and on Pongster's build until the suggestion from the poster on the link I sent you. I was trying to find the CWR zip file for the same Miui Camera but I can't seem to find it on the Pongster thread. If I find it, I will send you the link. In the meantime, try Camera360. Hi guys
I am using a HTC Desire HD and I can not find the application in the market place.
So i've checked android market on my PC, I can see the natwest app but it is telling me that my device is not compatible. Any ideas?
Can I get hold of the APK from my brothers phone who is able to download it fine on his Galaxy S2?
Thanks!
It looks pretty cool. I need to save money so it would be good to have something to constantly remind me of how poor I am. I'm in Japan so I wouldn't be able to use it or install it from here.
I'm curious if you can install the APK and get it running. Root Explorer (File Manager) is the type of app which will easily find it probably in the data/app folder.
Seeing as it's a free app, if you can get the apk please pm me. I'd like to try it too just out of curiosity.
Have you modified your LCD density in your build.prop? Try changing it back to 240 then install from the market.
Hi Guys,
I have the exact same problem. Running Desire HD with AR 6.1.3. I am having problems downloading this app and a few others. I have tried the following with no luck.
- Changed LCD Density to 160 and cleared market data and cache
- Changed LCD Density to 240 and cleared market data and cache
- Used LCD Resolution to set the density instead of Rom Toolkit and repeated the steps above.
I am currently using market version 3.1.6 but have tried downgrading to market 3.1.5 but this did not help, also tried all of the above combinations whilst resetting the google services framework with no luck. (told this may help)
I do not understand the checks that the market / google perform on each device to determine compatibility but would it be possible they are checking for root via the SU command - maybe this was a condition of natwest being a secure app? (I have heard they have done this with google video)
This is the only app that I really need, and cant find an apk!
Thanks for any help!

True, but I wouldn't suggest installing a Banking app from anywhere other than the Android Market.
@alex-qts - Did you reboot between making the changes? AFAIK the only what the market would know if you had root was if it requested root, and you accepted it. I could be wrong.

I had exactly this problem and also wanted to install this only from the Market.
I have had success by following these instructions to change the build fingerprint to something that is supported. I use ARHD 6.1.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18147141&postcount=53120
If it works then credit to wjsturgis3.
It contains the following edit to build.prop which fixes the market issue. The existing ro.build.fingerprint line is replaced with the following:
# Switch fingerprint when there is a US release of 2.3.5
# Original
# ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.5/GRJ90/150597.1:user/release-keys
# Modified for better Market access
ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.3/GRI40/87995:user/release-keys
Rebooted and I was then able to download directly from the Market and have just passed security and it's working a treat.

That includes the fingerprint fix but I wouldn't use it as it also has some other items which you may not want, such as Advanced Power Menu.
To do it yourself - You need to be rooted, take a nandroid backup, and then take a copy of the original build.prop file found in /system/ - then just edit the original using ES File Explorer and the built in ES Note Editor to include the new fingerprint line:-
ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.3/GRI40/87995:user/release-keys
AND put a # symbol at the beginning of the old ro.build.fingerprint line to comment it out. Still useful for future reference.
Reboot and it should work, but just for completeness, I also cleared the data from the Market in Settings>Applications.
Hope this helps,
John
thanks guys I can confirm that editing the build.prop file works! I now have the natwest app!
I simply used the following command to copy the build.prop file onto my computer, then edited and copied back to system folder using root explorer (renamed old build.prop that was in the system root)
adb pull /system/build.prop build.prop
Sorry if my instructions are not great, but it was my first time editing the build.prop file.
Thanks Again!

I've not changed my DPI settings, but how can I check the settings in case the ROM has changed it? (I'm running ARHD 6.1.2)

Click to collapse
open build.prop (/system/build.prop), with a suitable text editor and you shuld find a line similar to below
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
Click to collapse
If that reads anything other than 240 your DPI has been changed.
Many thanks for the help, mine says 240.
What does it actually mean? Is it the resolution? Is it noticeable if I set it to 200, and will everything else still work ok?
I know this is off topic, but it is a complete nightmare trying to search forums with tapatalk.
