Anyone else with a tf buy insurance for their tf? Just thought I would share that I just bought a policy from www.worthavegroup.com It cost 35 bucks for 1 year of coverage with no deductible. You can also add a smartphone to your policy for only 10 bucks (sucks because I bought a smartphone policy from them a month ago for 50 bucks). Also coupon code tenoff takes 10% off the price. Hope this helps someone out.
Portable devices are covered under my home insurance. I didn't even need to give them the IMEI number last time I upgraded my phone.
Worth checking out, IMO.
They seem to be very product specific. I don't see any "general tablet" insurance - just iPad insurance.
I'd recommend Square Trade. They have cheaper than most store warranties, plus cover things like accidental breakage and screens. Better coverage and a better price, though no store return/exchange.

Awesome! You are very welcome. Also they have an A+ rating from the BBB and reviews of them suggest they are top notch.
Anybody know any good UK insurance deals? I'm just waiting for a call-back from my home insurer to see what they cover/charge.
Never bothered with insurance in the past, but would cry if I dropped and broke this baby.

The coupon code THIRTY30 will get you 30% off of the policy. Ends up being less than the worth ave insurance.
I went with Worth Ave for two reasons:
1. SquareTrade would not allow the accidental damage add-on since I purchased the TF from Best Buy. Worth Ave has it regardless of merchant.
2. SquareTrade does not cover theft, Worth Ave does.

Thanks really appreciate this. At best buy during the black friday hell the guy asked if I would like the entire black tie protection for $112 or something. I told him flat out no and he kept pushing it.
I'm definitely going with Worth Ave and recommending it to friends. $9 extra for theft is really cheap. They say you can add some tracking program too but android probably already has an app for that. Thanks again.

I found out last week that most if not all forms of home owners insurance and renters insurance will allow you to separately insure personal items for a nominal fee. This has no deductible, covers full amount of item, and they usually just need serial number.
My wife's hero and my evo are now insured for $50 a year under renters insurance. My friend insured 2 evo's and a hero for $15 for a year under his home owners insurance. Plus neither have a deductible for personal item insurance. Just the yearly payment.
Good info. Curious, dDoes this cover malfunctions, accidental damage, and theft? Who is your insurer?
theres an insurance company around here called state farm (they do auto insurance I believe) and they sell personal item insurance for $30/year and it covers just about any smartphone. You don't have to have any other kind of insurance with them. You pay $30 bucks and they write you a check for how much it costs if you need it replaced, but they cancel you for a year after 1 claim.

That is the company my wife and I used for our renters insurance so we rolled it up under that.
I would imagine they look pretty closely at these claims to make sure people aren't taking advantage. But as far as I know they will cover just about anything that happens to it.

Ok I guess you do have to have some kind of insurance through them. I found this:
State Farm DOES in fact insure cell phones, they do it through their "Personal Articles Policy". Their are two requirements to get it. One, that the phone has to be worth over $500 (which is why they will say they don't insure cell phones because most aren't worth that much including the IPHONE) but the Nexus One is worth over $500. Two, you HAVE to have some type of policy with them already.
If you don't you have a policy with them, you can get some type of home/renters insurance which is crazy cheap (and your an idiot if you don't have something like that in place already). I actually signed up for renters insurance which was $15/month (cheaper than what I was paying) which allowed me to get the phone covered with the Personal Articles Policy.
It's $34/year with No Deductible. It covers everything except software problems. So theft, damage, you get pissed and decide to throw it in a river, etc. gets
covered.
Edit: Theres another guy that said on 4/22/10 that he had the state farm item insurance for his phone with no other insurance
I'll stick with squaretrade.

Never heard of them. Do they do personal article insurance.
itmustbejj,
Their policy actually states $500? I wonder if they will allow cheaper devices if you have other forms of insurance through them as I'm insuring my Evo and it is $440. Or maybe my wife figured out how to work the system...
Sadly, my State Farm agent sent me this email today in response to my request to apply this to our account. We spoke yesterday and she thought it wouldn't be a problem, but just had to call for a quote...
State Farm no longer writes a Personal Articles Policy for coverage for cell phones and hand held devices. My underwriters informed me that the losses were too great, that State Farm decided to do away with the risk for the company. Thank you for your interest and if anything changes on that I would be delighted to inform you.

If that's the case then State Farm better give me back my money check! I haven't received anything like this yet but will update if I do.
i had this for my new laptop.
I spill a cup of water on the keyboard and fried it.
The insurance pick up the tab and replaced it.
Got a check. Cost to much to repair vs. replace it.
I toyed with the idea of getting the Squaretrade warranty and accident coverage for my TF and dock, but figured I'd save the money. Yup, $70 after discount code was too much. What could happen?
What a mistake. This week, I was caught in a flash flood during the heavy rains on the East Coast. Transformer and dock (as well as a bunch of other electronics in my car, like my phone) were lost, filled with water and dirt. (The only thing I could salvage was the 32G flash card.) I can't replace it because I also lost an expensive, 10-month-old car, and need to cover the shortfall from the insurance.
I sure am glad, though, that I saved that $70.
It should be covered by your flood insurance...if you have it

No, no flood insurance on my home. Not in a flood zone. (Ironically, ordinary homeowner's coverage would have applied if it was damaged by, say, a leaky pipe. But not for flooding.)
I would ask your car insurance to cover it. I believe if you are in an accident they cover stuff in the car. i actually surprised they covered the car for a flood at all. No guarantees, but worth asking.

Even if I was predisposed to do that, I bought the tab in early JUN. You have to buy the warranty quicker than right now.
No offense, but your story + username + avatar made me lose it.
I think you're looking at it the wrong way, sure your TF got wrecked but you still made the right decision by not purchasing the warranty. If there's a 10-15% chance of it getting lost/stolen, $500 TF * 0.15 is $75 of value, but then you need to consider that they probably have a deductible which is probably going to add another $100 minimum on top of it.
Insurance is almost always a scam.

I know -- the story is dripping (!) with irony. But, with the exception of phones, there is no deductible on accident coverage. That's why it's such a good deal.
I think I'm the only one here that's ever bought SquareTrade warranties so let me clear up some mistakes some people have said.
1. You have to buy your warranty within 90 days of purchase date (they do require receipt for proof of purchase you email/fax them your receipt). eBay items you have 30 days.
2. You can buy warranty with ADH (Accidental Damage from Handling). This gives you protection against ANY DAMAGE, water, physical, whatever. You break it accidentally, they send you a new replacement device. ADH can only be purchased on items within 30 days of purchase date. There is a deductible, but it's only $50 and only on Cell Phones.
3. You can get a REFUND ANY TIME for your warranty! Any unused months of coverage, you get refund back to your credit card. You can get a FULL refund within 60 days of buying the warranty.
4. If the item is broken and they don't make the device anymore, or they can't fix it, etc.. you get a check for your FULL RETAIL PRICE you paid for the device.
Back in December 2010, I bought the Nexus S, I also bought SquareTrade warranty with ADH coverage for $99.00.
In July I sold my Nexus S and got a refund of $72.15 from SquareTrade. It cost me $26.85 to warranty my Nexus S for 7 months. That's pretty damn cheap and great peace of mind. Compare this with insurance through the cell carriers.
So, Personally I have SquareTrade warranty for my Transformer... guess how much it cost me?
$56.24 for 2 years with ADH. (I had great coupon codes).
So $399+$56.24, If my Transformer gets flooded, I get a brand new $399 Transformer, I save about $342. How is that a bad deal?

Yes yes, I usually agree with extended warranties being a rip off, but those are mostly for old school methods of selling them at big box stores for freaking coffee makers, projection tvs, toasters, stupid **** like that.
SquareTrade really is a different type of warranty company. Do a Google search on SquareTrade and you'll see a ton of good things about it.
As a purely "warranty" company...I'm sure squaretrade has a better business model than most...but nevertheless...they are not an exception.

Realize until that provervial flood actually happens...you're actually taking a loss of $56.24...and it will likely stay that way. Thats how squaretade maintains a net positive income and that's how it's a bad deal.
Comparing a person who buys squaretrade warranty for every highend purchases they make...vs one who take the same amount of money and deposits it into a "oh s#it" bank account...they later would come out on top...and would most likely be in a net positive

For the 3 devices I've bought a SquareTrade warranty (and a couple I've bought and refunded after I sold the devices), doing a quick calculation in my head, no, it wouldn't have saved me money if I sat on the money.
I buy all my devices and phones full price $400-$550 with tax, so spending $50-$99 up front for the piece of mind for 7-10 months, then getting most of it back after I sell the device is well worth it.
Again, only talking about SquareTrade. Screw Best Buy's Geek Squad Protection and all that.

I buy squaretrade for all my electronics. When I was sporting an Ipad 2 before I saw the green android light I bought the squaretrade warranty because the Best Buy black tie warranty was rediculous expensive. I only had the warranty a week and I dropped my ipad and cracked the screen. Squaretrade send me a box I shipped it the they said they could not fix it and 2 days later they PayPal me the full replacement cost of my ipad.
Keyboard Dock Coverage
Is it possible to cover the keyboard dock and tablet itself in the same coverage and if so how?
I had read on a recent RSS Feed that Asurion is upping premiums to $11.00 or more per month and deductibles are rising from $100 to $200.
This is awful. But, It seems that on wirefly, when you go to pre-order the EVO 4G LTE, they are offering insurance with NO deductible and only $7.00 or so a month.
Reference: https://www.wirefly.com/AdditionalD...c76&referringdomain=wirefly&agent=&viewmode=1
Is this a Wirefly only offer or is this how its going with everyone? (Sprint, Best Buy?) If this is the case from Wirefly only, then that might be a deciding factor for me...
Thanks!
I heard the new insurance changes are due to take effect June 6. Chances are, the info you read about is outdated and you would still be charged the same upped charges

As far as I can tell, Wirefly doesn't use Asurion. So whatever changes they're making shouldn't affect Wirefly's insurance.
I pre-ordered my LTEvo from Wirefly with no contract and got the Platinum Insurance package. I have a device on a corporate account which has no insurance, so this was the best possible solution. I had no idea such a plan existed. So now all I have to pay is $7.49 a month for my phone, and I have the peace of mind knowing that if I have issues (like I've had with the last several OG refurbs I've gotten), I can get a working "comparable device" as a replacement.
Thanks to sgt. slaughter for posting that Wirefly link in that other thread. I was worried when I couldn't preorder on the Sprint site without a contract that I'd have to wait until launch day to get it .
EDIT: Though I just noticed the Wirefly insurance does NOT cover liquid damage, which Asurion does cover. That seems to be the only disadvantage I could see .
Zagg (Invisible Shield) now offers a warranty. There is a $99 up front fee for two years of coverage which comes out to just over $4 a month (A $59.00 deductible may apply) the Zagg coverage covers water damage as well. I have been paying for the coverage on my Evo 3D and Evo 4G through sprint and have been thinking about trying Zagg out for the new Evo LTE I just ordered. It would save money in the long run.

This is interesting.
This is cheaper than the Wirefly insurance, but has a deductible (which Wirefly doesn't), but it actually covers liquid damage (which Wirefly doesn't).
The other difference is that the Zagg insurance doesn't cover a lost or stolen device, while the Wirefly insurance does.
Historically, I haven't lost my device or gotten it liquid damaged (except the one time I accidentally jumped into a pool with my Motorola V710 in my pocket), so I'm having difficulty deciding which plan to go with.
I'll probably just end up going with the cheaper option, but if I do that, I'll probably end up losing my device. And if I go with the more expensive option, I'll probably drop it into a puddle. Stupid decisions.
the insurance wirefly offers is amazing and been wanting to change my sprint pre order to wirefly but sprint wont cancel mine. bastard

Actually, the Wirefly insurance doesn't mention "lost". It only mentions theft. In fact, it speciffically states that if the phone was not secured (i.e. in your car with the door un-locked) it is not covered! No matter that it was stolen.
And, from experience, these companies make you provide a police report. So if you leave it on a bus or in your car and no window was broken, good luck collecting. No water damage, no lost phone, partial theft coverage, no thanks.

Nice observation.
I actually already cancelled the Wirefly insurance, and will be taking advantage of the Zagg offer instead, once my device arrives. Seems more likely that I'd accidentally drop my device in a puddle then I'd have it stolen directly off my person in a situation where I'd have to contact the authorities.

I don't even know if you can just for something that costs $199. If you could, I don't think it'd be worth it. In my case, it would fall under my renter's insurance--although IIRC my deductible is around $200.
It's £60 here for an extended 2 year warranty including damage, not worth it for a £190 tablet.

I wonder if it would be covered through Homeowners insurance.
You can take it to best buy and buy a protection warranty. Only thing is, for a tablet like this it costs 199.99. WTF! I'm not paying another 200 on top of the 250 I just paid. That's like paying for a $450 iP*d (had to censor or I would get killed ;p )
"extra" insurance is always a scam. (i'm talking for Europe). First you pay about 25%+ insurance fees and in case something happens you will pay "own risk/excess" and documentation costs. In many cases you'll pay within a year the full amount you need for replacing when something happens.
Never get extra insurance for something you can afford to buy a new one. Much cheaper in the long run!

It should be. Check with your agent to be sure. Also check what your deductible is.
At least with my insurance, if I'd drop it and the screen would break, it would be covered. Some extended warranties will not cover, um, "user error" like that. In general extended warranties are a scam and a MASSIVE money maker for places like Best Buy.

I dropped my Transformer and cracked the screen about 2 weeks after I bought it. SquareTrade couldn't replace the glass within 7 days (this was when the Transformer first came out) so they sent me a check for $450 for replacement. I did have the accident insurance on it, and they were really great to work with. - sheureka

Went to the square trade website and it's actually $60 for 2 years if you want coverage for drops, spills and other accidental damage. Still not bad of a deal.
No that's not bad at all. Idk of other places to get a warranty or else I would compare

Don't think for a minute that it cost a lot for a screen....There may be high sales now but soon the true cost will be no more than $80.00. Remeber true cost for many phones to OEMS like Apple is $65-100.00. What do you guys think! Here are a few links that I came up with for LCD, and digitizer replacement. Feel free to post and add more for those in need that will be organized into one thread.

I am on t-mobile and got insurance for $7.99/month. For ~$100 per year it will pay for itself for two years if I replace the phone once.
Insurance is worth it imo because screen damage is only one possible problem. There is also water damage, theft or other defects that may present themselves after the manufacturer warranty expires.

Yes but carriers may soon have parts to replace screens for like free or a small fee. I paid 35.00 to replace my EVO 4g cracked screen

Last time I checked Squaretrade was a much better option, but doesn't cover theft. It's only offered for the first 30 days of ownership. Also, the deductible for both is very high.

Oh I didn't know that. That is a good deal if you can get them to do it.
Ouch I didn't know there was a $150 deductible. Now I am regretting signing up for it. :crying:

Ensquared is $58.99 for 1 year of coverage and they cover everything including spills, drops, loss and theft. Their deductible is $75.

I used to work for them. A lot of people assume that they get their phone replaced with a new one in-store, but they don't. It gets shipped out and repaired if possible. Cracked screens are almost always repaired. They try their hardest to avoid giving the customer a new phone. But if they have replace the phone, it's a refurb. If there are no replacements available, they get store credit for the amount they paid for the phone.

This information is very outdated as it has changed a bit ago. The phone gets sent out (you can get a loaner phone if available for $50. This gets refunded when the loaner is returned). Usually within 1-5 business days you get your replacement phone (same model).

Soon? Psssh yeah right, not believable for a minute when a t959 vibrant (gs1) LCD screen replacement is $89 + free shipping and a t989 gs2 is $149 + free shipping, both from amazon and is the cheapest I have found.. which is about the same pricing as LCD replacement sites from China and wholesale sites like Alibaba and Aliexpress.
True though, their wholesale price should be about 3x less than retail but I've been searching extensively for weeks and there are no wholesalers selling for anything less than what I've stated above. It will be years until we see LCD screens for the gs3 at a respectable price, like claimed in the OP. By then the value of the gs3 will become greatly depreciated from what it is today since higher end phones will be available.
P.S none of those links work

My screen cracked, don't even know how. Then two more small cracks developed while the phone was in my pocket for a few hours.
I mean, wtf.

Just noticed I have several scratches on my screen. I didn't notice until today when I showed my phone off to my brother. He's like man u scratched it up already! I'm like no wtf. Look at it...scratches. I dont have a screen protector but I've only had it two days and I keep it in a leather holster. Don't know how the hell it happened just after two days...FML!
