Help - I'm an idiot... - Droid X General

So a few weeks ago, I got eager and impatient and installed the 4.5.588 update on my phone from droid-life.
Now I'm a total noob here. Am I screwed for when Verizon finally sends out the official update?
Thanks.
Sorry I'm dumb.

Just sbf your phone. It will take you back to stock

Do install the .zip in recovery mode like I did when I applied the update?

No, it's not that easy.
You are going to need the correct file and the RSDLite application to SBF back to stock. Make sure you get the correct file for the build you have.
There is a build out there that is correct and will be able to accept the VZW update according to TBH/P3Droid

Thanks guys - looking for a solution for OSX though...

You can take a look at this link, http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/38671-flashing-sbf-mac-2.html , or you can load a windows virtual machine or better yet, burn a live CD of Ubuntu Linux and use the live CD to SBF your phone.
Good Luck.

You might need to flash with the 2.3.15 sbf first. I was rooted and themed and the update kept failing. After the sbf, I had no issues with the update.

First time poster and extremely unknowledgeable about how to do almost anything except rely on the technical prowess and patience of the developers and other contributors here. That being said, I too have a rooted droid x (using z4root) and cannot get the ota update to work. I tried unrooting using z4root and downloading + installing only to have it fail.
If someone could please post a link or an explanation (in very simple terms, please), how to both obtain and install whatever this sbf is mentioned above, I would appreciate it quite a bit.
Thanks in advance.
DC
PS: I only use and/or have access to a Mac running OSX 10.6.5 so, windows is not available.

Heres a link I found that may help some of us but, as I've changed the bloatware after rooting, I'm intimidated by the warnings contained on the post.
Please use this at your own risk and understand I have nothing whatsoever to do with the posts contents.
I'm just going to wait untilsome kind and patient soul takes pity on me and explains what to do in plain english with no acronyms.

When you ask for help I would advise for you to at least type in complete sentences so someone can try to understand what it is you're saying. I find it extremely annoying when people ask for help, but their questions are not clear or concise; just a bunch of sentence fragments.
As for everyone else I was having trouble early and just SBF'd. It was the only way for me. Running 2.3.15.
Is this 2.3 gingerbread?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
make sure you don't sbf to something lower then your current version i.e. 2.3.32 > 2.3.15 is a no go. (results in brick i think) also make sure your bootloader is the right version and etc. etc.

Got the Offical GB OTA for my Droid X, How do we root??

I'm in the same boat as you. (got a replacement phone today and the wife updated it before I got home) I assumed there would be a simple way to root after the OTA but it looks like for now that isn't the case. I'm just going to wait a few days and see what happens.
Luckily .596 uses the same boot loader as froyo .340 so you can simply sbf the phone back to .340 then reroot and update to the prerooted .596 that p3droid posted on mdw.
SBF and root. Then you can flash the rooted version. Pm me if you need instructions on how to SBF.
Tethering using the official app costs money but there are other tethering apps
Oh ok, so like where can i find the other apps, n are they free? Also my phone was rooted n i was runnin the stock rom but i just sbf'd the fone and updated to 2.3 ota, can i still root my fone with the z4root? Or do i have to wait for something else?

I wonder if people are put of by the word "Noob" in the sticky, maybe it should be renamed Everything you need to know about the DROID X.
Everything is explained in there up to Froyo and SBF

That thread has saved my arse dozens of times so far and Im not to proud to say ive it bookmarked and reference it a lot. Thanks a million for that thread
The GB OTA is not rootable.......yet. If you want 596 and root SBF back to 340 and install the pre-rooted 596,or wait for the devs to get it.

[Q] need help unrooting

I have a friend whose son has a Droid X and attempted to root it. I dont know what method he used or anything, but it did not work. He can get the phone to boot, but cant use the phone for voice or data almost like its in airplane mode, but its not. I am familiar with Android and rooting, just not with a droid x. I need to get him back to stock so he can use his phone again. Is there like an ruu i can run to get it back to stock or a copy of the stock rom? and how do i get to recovery? Is it power and volume down like my evo?
Thanks for any help you can give
OK, I think I may have found it, but I would appreciate some some confirmation since ya'll obviously know way more about this specific device than I do.
I think I need to download RSDLite 4.8 and install on my computer and use it to install the SBF VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf to the phone.
Does that sound right?
thanks

RSD Lite is a pain compared to to other options. If you google search "linux solution for DROID x sbf" the first result should be a link to a dx fourm post about a linux distro to sbf dx back to stock 2.2. It is really really easy and runs on a usb flash drive or cd. Then take the OTA for gb, as it has yet to be rooted. And you are set. Total time, half an hour.
Pm me if you need more info. (I'm mobile so a link will be hard.)

I spoke too soon. He took it home and tried to do the GB update and got stuck at the bootloader, so I am trying the method you linked to now.

Yes, you can but it's a pain in the butt. Go to this thread and then download the original stock firmware. Make sure USB debugging is turned on also.
To install the file you need to have HTC Sync installed and running. Double-click the file and it should recognize the phone and start installing after some input from you.
If you get a USB error, try booting into the bootloader and installing the exe in the same manner.
I just did this last night because I was in the same situation. It works.
Now you can re-root.

You were able to downgrade to Froyo with this RUU? If so, that's great.. your the only person I've seen post successfully downgrading and being able to root.

I think everyone that ran the factory upgrade has tried this and you seem to be the only one that it has worked for. It goes through the motions then you get error 140 or 170 i think: Bootloader version error. Please get the correct rom update utility and try again
I have rooted my phone and installed the rockmod_devroms_2.3.4.1-speedy and broke my root istalling "extras" can I just try the rooting procesess again or have to revert bak to froyo?

I guess I feel pretty lucky then. I'm fairly certain I didn't miss any steps.
When I upgraded to the gingerbread stock ROM I used this link and chose the "no hboot included" option. Maybe that saved me.

It's still the same update. Whether I installed it through an OTA update or from the bootloader doesn't matter.
You guys can get into the bootloader right? Take one of those modified "official" updates, rename it to PG06IMG.zip and flash it from the bootloader. Then do my first post and flash to Froyo so you can root again. May be worth a shot.

This has already been tried and covered in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142115&page=2
I posted the same link in the beginning of this thread.
Unless you have an engineering bootloader, like after you rooted, you can only flash an an un modified pg0610.zip from htc. So any one who took an over the air update is SOL on that front. Best hope now is that the evo 3d root can be applied here

Wow, I almost just majorly screwed myself (again). I have the shift and its just been sitting in my drawer, waiting to be activated after carefully reading thru the forums so i do not true brick it again.
Anyway, for some weird reason, pulled it out just to charge the battery, and it requested to do an update (since it was connected via wifi), it tried and got stuck (praise the Lord) and Im just now reading this realizing I almost just GOOFED UP BIG TIME. So, wanted to take the time to thank the OP for this post which made me aware of the fact that I would be SOL if I had've upgrade and to prevent me from upgrading. THANKS!!!

Working FroYo D2 SBF? (2.3.20.A955)

My step moms old phone is bricked from OTA gingerbread. My friend is in need of a temporary phone and i want to loan her this droid 2. I've SBFed my phone (same DROID 2 bought same day) using Linux on a virtual machine and TBH Triple Threat FULL SBF for 2.3.20 . I cant seem to find the old SBF file (probably because it went away when i deleted the virtual machine) and i want/need it back! Id rather flash to FroYo than GB, and i cant find a SINGLE link that works! Can someone please point me to a working link or email me the sbf a [email protected]? Please!! I have dropbox too if you want to share a folder.
NOTE: Ive also tried using a .iso that an individual wrote. They took linux and wrote it to just flash an sbf on ones phone. So i burned the .iso to a CD (and DVD, both single writes :/ ) and cant get my 2005 Sana Rosa (sp?) Mac to boot from the freaking disk i made..
