I was wondering if someone can help me get back to Stock US Wifi. I tried flashing the system.img from a US.img with
if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
but after reboot it just sits there in the acer logo. Am I missing something?
Where did you get that .img file?
I have a similiar issue. Except I am rooted with CWM and was trying to install Virtuosa 1.0.3. After following all the directions and attempting to update, "it said it instalation aborted - 'file name(cant remember the exact one) is bad."
So I figured since I had just wiped everything that I would use my CWM restore and at least get my programs and icons back where they were before the wipe so that I could check out other options.
When I went to resore, it said MD5 sums do not match. So I decided at that point to just reboot and start over.
When I did so, the tab never (and has still not) made it past the Acer logo.
Since I have CWM working, can someone please point me to the correct URL that would contain the file I need to reboot?? Also, it says my /data file is corrupt. How do I fix this before trying to restore the system with said file - or will that full recovery do it for me?

I hope someone can help. Originally, when I downloaded Hero beta4 it came with a recovery file. Since I didnt know where it went, I did not adb it over. Now, everytime I wipe (i am now running rosie), it locks up at the Android screen and endless boots. I am sure it is because I am missing my recovery image. I presume I can use any update.zip and rename it recovery.something. My questions are
1. what is this recovery file named?
2. Where does it go? I have app_s installed to my ext2 partition for rosie.
If you boot up without holding down the home key (a normal boot in other words) the system doesn't touch your recovery partition. So having a damaged recovery is likely not the cause of your looping. If you want to install a recovery.img you can just grab it out of a full updater or as a separate file.
Thanks, but you said something interesting. You said recovery partition. Where is that? And would I use ADB to push the recovery file over to where ever?
it only boot-loops when i wipe. If I update, things go smoothly. Until I wipe again. Seems like i am missing the recovery image (since it came with the download but I never moved it).
Thanks jashsu for your prompt response.

I don't think it's the recovery partition. I get kinda the same with tehseano's Hero theme 1.1. When I wipe before applying the update, I get problems with home app. And after, I get a bootloop..
I installed ADW launcher, and like an idiot, didn't do a backup first, and upon rebooting the phone, it now hangs part way through the boot; It's Syndicate's Shuriken ROM, and it hangs at the "Samsung Epic 4G" screen with the multi-colored X. Is there ANY way to get into the phone's memory and pull phone logs, SMS, MMS and Angry Birds data? When I boot into recovery (although I have clockwork installed, I can only get to the samsung recovery), the SD card shows up on my PC as a drive without media since the SD card is mounted, so the PC sees the phone. ADB shows no devces connected, altough the only adb I have is what came with the andromeda one click flasher. Is there something else that I need?
Is there anything I can flash using the stock recovery that'll get the phone to boot or even only show up in adb? I don't realy care if the modem's there or not, or how stable it is. I've tried flashing a handful of "stock" updates, but all failed with various verification errors. I had CW installed, but apparently it got replaced by the stock one. All I need to do is run "Backup Everything" to get my SMS, MMS & Phone logs, and Root Explorer to get my AB data. After that, I can (probably will) Odin back to what I was running, or maybe one of the newer Froyo's until the official release is out.
If you have cwm you can just reflash a rom without a wipe to get the info you want. The only updste.zip i know of that can be flashed threw recovery is the one for dk28

The problem there is While I had CWM installed, I've always had trouble getting into it. It seems that at some point, the ROM overwrote it with the stock recovery, so the only way for me to flash anything is with the stock recovery, or to extract the flash data from download mode if that's possible. How do people get ODIN dumps? I assume that's just a complete read of the flash.
Been doing a lot of searching and reading, and came across this thread. Using Odin to flash the clockworkmod.tar (which has recovery.bin inside it) shoudl replace the factory recovery, shouldn't it? I tried flashing it and I still get the Samsung recovery. Is there a newer version than in that thread that I can download and try to flash in the same way?
Ok, I actually managed to get somewhere. I got CWM Recovery to take, but it's v2.5.0.4, and doesn't seem to be working 100% right. I can't mount the SD card to USB, it doesn't want to do a nand backup, and the smiley button moved the selection bar up, "H" is enter.
Edit: I then managed to get 2.5.1.0 installed, so now keys are functioning properly, and it would seem I was able to get a successful backup. Is there a way to get into the img files in the backup, or is it likely that if I odin it back then advanced restore the data back, it'll be accesable?
Well, I got all the data I wanted to get. As my last post says, *somehow* I managed to get CWM Recovery to take via Odin (Is try, try, try again, try some more perseverance or insanity? ), and then was able to update it to 2.5.1.0, at which point CWM started functioning properly. I then was able to use the DI18 > DK28 update zip, which got me into a funcioning device, which allowed me to back up the data I was looking to get. Of course from there, restoring it back to fully functional was easy.
After installing cwmod zip, I went to install the busybox zip in cw and accidentally chose to automatically install update.zip. I think that's what messed it all up for me. I can get into CW Mod, but if I try to restart the tablet, it stays stuck on the galaxy tab 10.1 screen that has the unlocked icon at the bottom.
Can someone just point me in the right direction on what I need to do to get this thing up and running again?
I've tried to install the OTA which didn't work. ODIN doesn't work on my tablet for some reason, either. I feel like an idiot.. lol
The fix might be easier than I thought.. I found someone's cw backup over at droidbasement.com.
NM it wont allow me to flash it.
Looks like I jumped the gun on creating this thread. I managed to copy over that CW backup's boot, system, and recovery images using adb push. It let me flash them and booted up.
At least it's always "semi" fun trying to fix your mess ups.

Hi !
today I decided i should upgrade from CM7.0.2 to nb 118. But I first installed latest radio. I did a backup at this point. The radio flash went ok, the phone booted and everything worked fine.
I installed nightly build 118 from ROM manager without google apps, and with a dalvik wipe (no data/cache wipe). The phone booted up ok, but some widgets had disapeared, some shortcuts didn't work and some apps had disapeared too, the autorotation of screen at 0° had been unticked too... I rebooted, and finally decided I should revert to my backup.
That's where the real problem happens : after the backup restoration, the phone is stuck in a boot loop.
I can start with fastboot mode, but I can't access recovery mode, the red exclamation mark is there...
I'm not sure this tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751265 is adapted to my situation, should I follow it ?
Thank you for your help !
PS : I'm S-OFF
This should be @ the Q&A section but anyway, here we go:
I just had that bootloop situation myself and yes, you should follow that usb unbrick tutorial. That'll help you. Also, you should try if you can get to fakeflash by pressing VOLUP + POWER while @ the red exclamation window. If you can and you should be able to, search XDA for "fakeflash clockworkmod" or something similar, you should find a CWM image in a ZIP form. Then put that image into your SDCard, rename it to update.zip, go into the fakeflash menu and apply update.zip, it should fly you to the real recovery menu where you can do a full wipe and flash your ROM again.
Hopefully I'm not forgetting anything =D At least that's how I solved my situation and my phone is working fully again!
Hi.
Do you have the update.zip from recovery clock in the root of your sdcard, if so just press volume up and the power down at the same time, or the other way around ;-) when it change picture choose option, install update.zip and you should be in recovery mode
Im a noob, so dont laugh if i have written it the wrong way
Cheers, and good luck.
Jesus chist, it is written in the second post... Damn.

That "Can't open /cache etc." error message indicates that you are in the fake-flash menu. Do you have a working recovery image in the root of your SDcard renamed to "update.zip"? If not, try searching the forum for "clockworkmod fakeflash" or something similar and it should show some topics that will help you.
I recently got my Legend working again from bootloop and usb brick so I'm ready to help you with your further problems that may occur =)
EDIT: And please, make sure that your recovery zip is just "update.zip" and not a ZIP file named "update.zip" cause then it will be a file called "update.zip.zip" =D

I hope you read this and if it isn't fixed yet then take a rom YOU KNOW that works.
go into recovery Go to "mounts and storage" and format SYSTEM. NOTHING ELSE.
Do a wipe and THEN flash your zip.
Remember to NOT go out of recovery when you have formatted the system.
I hope it helps.
I think I soft bricked my a500. I made a backup using thor's recovery 1.6 and when i tried to restore, it complained of md5 error. So what I did was to make a new nandroid.md5 by deleting the old one and doind md5sum. It was able to do the recovery but it will not boot past the acer logo.
I can still see the stuff when I adb in recovery, especially /data/media but not booting past the acer logo. What can I do? Is there a boot log or something I can look at?
************* udpate there seems to be boot log file that I can find. I have installed 3.2 rooted stock via the recovery after wiping everything. It did not work. Changing another sdcard worked. So it seems that it was a bad sdcard that was causing the problem.
If mods see this, might want to delete this thread Cheers
