How to Change Baseband from EU to US - Streak 5 General

Hello,
I have a Dell streak from the UK, and I am in Canada, so I think I have the wrong baseband hence I cannot get 3G service on the streak, only Edge.
I've tried following the steps to put Manii's 351 baseband on the phone, and then reinstall DJ_steve's 1.9 but it still came back with GAUSB1A135100-EU.
I've been trying to find how to somehow switch to an GAUSBxxxxxx-US baseband but have had no luck.
I've only had the phone for a while, and I have it rooted and no issues with fastboot, etc... but am still new at this, so if someone could help that would be great.
Cheers!
Phone info:
Android: 2.2.2
Baseband: GAUSB1A135100-EU
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-DJ_Steve-BFS....
Build: StreakDroid 1.9.0

If its a UK Streak then the radio frequencies are different from the US/Canada ones so you will not be able to get 3G regardless of the baseband. I've got the UK unlocked Streak and can not get 3G on ATT or T-Mobile.

Thanks. I hope that is not the case a both the uk and canada sites show the same bands in their tech specs on the dell page. Unless dell has recently added band support to their uk model. My provider uses the 850 band...I thought out is perhaps not enabled on the modem somehow if the uk provider did not use it...
I don't want to give up quite yet since I got this phone for quick data on the road...and edge is not quick...
But im not sure what else I can try.

The only way is sell and buy.

Aren't all streaks essentially the same though? I have the uk one and 3G works fine in the uk.

No, the aws, euro, streak has different radio frequencies than the US streak.

Can't you just add your carrier settings in the apn? I'm in Canada but I got Rogers streak 5 killer phone! Runs dungeon defender like **** tho with qualcom score of 2200 benchmark

But that shouldn't matter anymore. It's not like things are built with quartz crystals to determine their operating frequencies anymore. The frequencies are synthesized using a PLL. That's programmable. The software sets what frequencies the radio supports.

Weither or not they're reprogrammable is moot since noone's able to do that.
Fact of the matter is the 3 submodels work on diff frequencies
US: 850/1900/2100
AWS: 900/1700/2100
EU: 900/2100
Tmobile usa uses 1700
at&t uses 850/1900
reprogramming them to accept diff bands is something that hasnt been attempted to any serious level and the antennas might be different in the submodels, noone's taken all 3 apart to compare the antennas

US model runs 850/1900/2100 in 3G.

3G of AT&T on my DS (Asia)
agreed to you but my DS from AT&T kept original firmware 1.6 and used 3G in Viet Nam seem ok for me, I am confusing with many version and have to follow original of DS at the end, happy with it until now and always think : what is the best for us ?

no more idea ? come on

Unlocked I9000 850/2100 MHz

There are a couple of threads around at the moment that are eluding to a 850 MHz version of the Galaxy S. I'm currently using an original UK I9000 (900/2100 MHz) and am sick of the terrible service of 900 MHz carriers in Australia.
As such, when people start getting their hands on 850 MHz unlocked Galaxy S would they mind listing the following information.
- Reseller / Carrier (if they sell outright)
- Reseller / Carrier Shipping Destinations
- Price
- Firmware Version
- Locked / Unlocked
Semi-related, I contacted HTC Australia a couple of times when I was considering purchasing the Desire. HTC confirmed with me that all versions of the Desire are absolutely identical in terms of hardware. This confirmed the research I had performed that the HTC's/Nexus' radio chip has the ability to support both 850/900 MHz (not necessarily simultaneously). So it is definitely the case that flashing firmware onto your phone can convert a 900 MHz phone to a 850 MHz phone or vice versa. However, the firmware that needs to be flashed probably isn't directly flashable using standard android tools. You probably require physical access to the radio frequency chip to flash firmware onto the chip as well as corresponding firmware onto the phone. Where I'm going with all this is...
If we have any electronically inclined people on these forums, on top of the above information I would love to know if someone is willing to investigate whether it is possible to dump radio chip firmware from their 850 MHz device.
EDIT: I'll include the list of phones below.

Thanks. I did notice that thread however, it's actually why I started this one. I just figured it would be a good idea to have a central place for people to upload information. So we can compare between resellers and learn a bit about the devices from each reseller once people get them in their hands.
I'm looking forward to see results from the New Zealand model, and Bell.
I'll try to pick up one tomorrow from Bell and see if it works, and if we can unlock it.
@All Gamer: Are you going to have the phone unlocked? Even though you still in the Bell network.
I be checking in everyday for this.
I also noticed that the model number for this unit is actually i9000. Is the CA and NZ model names are i9000 with quad band? or different like the us version of i897 and t959. Just wondering if they were different then the Euro Version.

inside the phone, after you take out the battery it's a GT-i9000M
firmware was something J?5 (forgot the middle letter)
the Euro/Asia version is GT-i9000
they actually finally revealed the updated page, 2 weeks ago it didn't have the Tech Spec yet

oh wow! i just noticed something that i overlooked previously
check this out!!!
UMTS + GSM(850/900/1800/1900MHz)

that is the Asia version of the GT-i9000 (same as Euro) but!!! it has both the 850+900+1900 band, but missing the 2100 band (which i don't really care as in America we don't have much use for the 2100, 90% of the network in USA/Canada is 850+1900)
i'm on Fido...

No idea about the CA model, but the NZ model is the same as the european just with the different radio bands but no ideas about when it will be released, I emailed samsung NZ asking about it but no response yet. All phones sold in NZ are unlocked even apples's iphone 4 which has an exclusive contract with vodafone here is sold unlocked.
interestingly enough the Asia version also has different radio than the NZ version, the NZ has 2100 band, but the Asia one doesn't in its place it keeps most of the lower bands
according to Wikipedia, seems like the only country that uses 2100 is Brazil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequency_bands
why would cell phones sold in Europe/NZ ship with that band?
dunno...
anyways @ AllGamer, where are you in canada?
i get decent 3g coverage in the GTA...unless i'm in a basement and some houses...
also how's your gps?
works fine for me everywhere i've tested... haven't had any issues with locking
longest i've taken i think is like 30 seconds for a lock outdoors
and that was from a cold start after i flashed a new rom

no problem as well, that's why i don't know why so many people are complaining about the GPS and "lag"
coming from Windows Mobile, this "lag" is nothing, GPS takes average 5~15 sec to pick up depending on weather, my old phone it takes 5 min to 1 hour to pick up
and waiting for the Windows software to load was always like an eternity, that's why iphone got so famous, because windows mobiles devices have always been slow, and i'm sure it will continue to be slow even with the same CPU, cuz my old phone was a 625Mhz CPU, and still didn't cut it, i OCed it to 650Mhz and it was not much better, but definitely noticeable... anyways.... the SGS i9000 is a dream to use.
GTA as well, 3G is mostly fine in most areas, but sometimes when you are down in the subway (the stations with open tunnels) it can't pick up 3G only G or Edge, and some parking lots
it is more a concern about traveling as, drive around Ontario/Quebec quite a bit, having the 850 band is a safety & bonus.
so if the new one from Bell works, i'll sell the UK i9000 version (sill in stock firmware but rooted)
thanks for the info man.
is that a demo one, or you purchased it already?
the past 2 days i've been trying to buy one to study it in detail, with no luck, as the sales guys didn't want to sell me their "demo" units

if you have a uk streak you can not get 3g in the united states. internation countries use umts bands 900 and 2100. us at&t streaks use 1900 and 850. i see you are using tmobile which in the us uses 1700 so even if you had an american streak you couldnt have 3g.

So you saying t-mobile cant get 3g on the streak at all?
unless you have one of those rare beta us streaks that had the tmobile aws bands (doesnt include uk streak) or find a umts 2100 tower (even rare-er), or switch to att (but then buy a att streak) then no, you will not be able to get 3g with the streak in the us.

Dell streak 5 officially gets tmobile 3g in usa

DELL STREAK 5 OFFICIALLY GETS TMOBILE 3G IN USA
January 17, 2011 ... I have 100% confirmation that UNLOCKED Dell Streak 5 currently being sold on dell.com will run 3G in the USA with a Tmobile SIM card. Aside from the new $399 price, this is great news for people who prefer Tmobile over AT&T. To avoid ANY confusion, I specifically asked and confirmed that the new unlocked Streak 5's are quadband (850/1900mhz for AT&T and 1700/2100mhz for Tmobile).
My Dell source noted that upon receiving the Streak 5, installing an existing Tmobile SIM card and upgrading from Android V1.6 to V2.2 (Froyo) you must go into Settings to turn the 3G feature ON. Upgrading from V1.6 to V2.2 is available over the air during first use ( see dell is advertising at http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&model_id=mobile-streak )
This information was provided to me on 1/17/2011 by Melinda at Dell Support 800-308-3355.
P.S. As a current Nexus One owner running Froyo that receives HSDPA+ on it (a/k/a 4G), I plan to report if I can also get 4G speeds when I receive my unlocked Streak 5 (due to be delivered to me by 2/8/2011).
From Dell's website on the Streak's specs page:
Bands
UMTS 2100 / 1900 / 850 MHz
GSM / EDGE 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz
HSDPA / HSUPA:HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA 5.76 Mbps

No 1700 MHz.
I hope you are correct, but I would think that they would update the info on their site?
I'm not too sure about that....
I just received my unlocked Dell Streak from Dell for my legacy ATT mMode sims which requires it to be unlocked in order to use. My neighbor has t-mobile so I asked if I can use her USA t-moblie to be the first one it sees.
Well, its been 10 mins and it keeps going in a reboot cycle. Looking to see how to reset the streak, if possible to stop the boot loop. I hope I dont have an DOA new Streak that took almost 1month to get.
Dell is really pissing me off now. It all started with me paying full price at bestbuy for one & att not wanting to release unlock code. so I took it back and purchased it from dell unlocked $50 cheaper.
Will keep you posted on the out come.
I think they lied to you. I don't see a place where you can change that unless its a secret menu or something.(I have an unlocked red one)
No go for 3g on tmobile
DELL lied to you my friend.
I did a factory reset to bypass the continuous boot loop. It runs on Edge with Tmobile usa sim. I tried doing the *#*#307#*#* to access the frequency menu like on 1.6 but since it was received with 2.2 it I get a PASSPORT needs to be on SD error and doesn't activate hidden settings.
On the 1.6 band/frequency 1700Mhz is missing. So all signs point to NO.
Will not get 3g on t-mobile. Sorry to burst your bubble

A carrier orders a phone built to their specs. Almost certain that a quadband phone would cost a little more then a dualband phone. No reason for TMO to offer a phone that would make it easier for their subscriber to bolt to AT&T when they start slacking on service. Just think of all the millions of iPhone people who would have left AT&T if they had quadband phones?
The only streaks that have tmobile 3g capabilities are the handful of beta streaks, from Dell's sponsored mile run, in Austin, Texas last summer. Those special streaks are loooong gone.
Just to confirm then, the Dell Streak 5 will only work with AT&T in the USA?
The US version will get 2g on all networks and 3g on At&t only
the AWS version will get 2g on all networks and 3g on TMO only
They apparently do actively manufacture AWS streaks (just in limited quantities in comparison to the US/EU models), but they dont advertise this fact and they wont sell you one directly. You have to find someone yourself.
My streak works fine on 3g and hdspa or whatever on vodafone in the uk, doesn't it work on all networks the same? I just bought mine off the dell website and whacked my sim in and away I went.
Most of europe has 2100mhz coverage, which all streaks support for 3g
Oh right I see, here was me thinking 3g was 3g the same everywhere :-\
I've got a Dell Streak 5 running on the T-Mobile network but the speed is HORRENDOUS! It feels like a 1200 baud modem all over again.
I must have the AWS version because mine runs pretty fast and shows 3g on the screen and a capital H neext to the signal bars.

I bought mine on Craigslist but the guy I got it from said he originally bought it from an importer who got it from Australia. Australian models have the 1700 band that allows you to get tmobile 3g. My baseband version is GAUSB1A135100-AWS. I believe the AUS means it's from Australia and the AWS I don't know whether that signifies anything or not. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me can chime in.
And yes, I have tmobile. Great phone by the way. Love it much more than my EVO.

Trade T-Mobile N1 for AT&T N1?

I bought a used N1 on eBay. I totally wasn't even thinking about the fact that there are different models of the phone for different carriers. Turns out I have the T-Mobile N1, but I have AT&T service currently.
I assume that there is no kind of mod/firmware to get it to use AT&T 3G, and that it's the hardware that limits me to T-Mo? Probably more than some custom firmware or something could fix?
That kind of sucks, if so. I doubt anyone would have an AT&T model, looking for a T-Mo model, eh?
Thanks for any help, if it's even possible..
Have you looked at the seller's return policy?
No returns accepted, as stated on the item page.
I can live with it (in remorse)..
The seller didn't mention what model it was at all, either.
I don't suppose Verizon uses the same bands as T-Mo?

No, they don't. T-Mobile and Verizon use totally different radio technologies.
Go onto the Marketplace forum on XDA, and trade/sell it through there.
Put your sim card in it

Post it for sale locally on craigslist to finance a unit with the AT&T radio.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Also if you have trouble locating the AT&T compatible N1, you may also consider the Telus version of HTC Desire. Largely the same hardware, AT&T bands, but no Euro 2100 band.
Possible bonus: AT&T does not know the IMEI of Telus Androids, and might not force you to a higher cost smart phone data plan.
Thanks for your input, guys.
I'll try first to sell it locally via Craigslist.
I really think that it will be much more difficult
since they discontinued the Nexus One, and provided it through the developers only,
it has always been the T-Mobile version which is quite disappointing....
the AT&T version seem to just disappear from manufacturing all together
point I am trying to make is that it the AT&T version should be much rarer and possibly worth more on the market since there are less quantities of it
it sucks my friend I feel for you...
How is the T-Mobile N1 different from AT&T model?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Different radio frequencies and limited availability. Otherwise identical.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I've done the exact opposite...got myself an ATT N1 while on tmobile...hahaha
hahah. I've since sold my T-Mo N1 on eBay and bought an AT&T N1 from Craigslist.. got a sweet deal, too!
wait wait a sec

Yes, it will function on the network. The issue is that the radio hardware is built for specific frequencies, which differ between the T-Mobile and AT&T models.
You can use one phone on the other's network just fine as a phone, but you will be limited to 2G data speeds, as AT&T uses 850/1900MHz for their 3G data and T-Mobile uses 900 1700/2100MHz.
Umm, nobody uses 900 MHz for cellular in North America... that spectrum is not allocated for that purpose here.

You're right, my apologies. The fact of the matter (that the hardware is incompatible between the AT&T and T-Mobile networks) remains intact though.
Correct 3G data frequency information, as best I can make it out:
AT&T uses 850MHz and 1900MHz.
T-Mobile uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz.
900MHz and 2100MHz are used primarily in Europe; a phone made for European markets will have a better chance of being fully compatible with T-Mobile's network in the states based on sharing the 2100MHz band.
Closer but still not quite
Read up on the AWS band. European phones will not get T-Mobile 3G at all without 1700.
But in the specific case of the Nexus One, models sold in Europe do have AWS.

I just got the mytouch 4g and i wanted to sell my nexus one. But i wanted to double check and see if i can sell it to someone on the at&t network. I currently have tmobile. I thought the S-Off was to completely unlock the phone. So u can switch between carriers. Didnt know the frequency would be different. thank guyz. Damn u HTC.

What kind of shape is your T-Mobile N1 in?
I'm actually in the process of switching to T-Mobile, and I have an ATT model that I would potentially be interested in trading, but it's definitely not mint.

Get At&t frequecies on T-mobile DVP

Im using my dvp on Rogers in Canada currently on Edge, I was wondering if its possible to unlock the firmware to get 850/1900 band which the At&t phone has
Im pretty sure its only software related not hardware.
ya, i would hope so. I've got an htc tp2 right now and you can change the frequencies with different roms so...
That's not possible unfortunately. Its a hardware limitation, not software. The radio in the T-mobile phone isn't capable of those frequencies. The AT&T DVP and the T-mobile DVP have different radios.

How are you so sure?
Because I can read. Go to Dells website and look at the differences in the AT&T and the T-Mobile DVPS. Clearly they state the different frequencies the phone can do. Plus if the phone was Quad band Dell would advertise that, because its a big selling point. The two DVPS have diff radios. You can also see this if you look at any of the videos tear downs of the DVPs. Look at the product codes on radios in the video, and search their info. This is how I can be so sure!
I know it's nothing concrete, but i think of all of the devices on this site the only thing that was ever to have bands unlocked was the touch diamond 2. Quite uncommon.

Care to link the video? I can't find from any major site having a DVP tear down
I dunno i went through the dell site for both phones it says the same thing :
* UMTS 900/1700/2100
GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
So obviously an error for the at&t varient , and cant find any so called videos of tear downs
Have you guys read about this? mobilitydigest.com/dell-venue-pro-has-pentaband-3g-hidden-away-might-already-be-compatible-with-att/

Thats old news and that one doesn't work. All it does is stores the band selected in the EM App's isolated storage.
funny thing is that the OP may have a more definitive answer if we had a larger community on the DVP
I think a samsung vibrant has dual frequencies on the same device itself. both att and tmobile. it was the matter of cracking it and allow whcih ever freq. you wanted to use.
maybe the dvp has this? we dont know. no one has been able to to unlock/crack the dvp yet.
