Power Amp "Too many failed files" Final, Permanent FIX! - Epic 4G General

If there is another method out, please forgive me. I have tried many and this is the only one to work for me.
1. Backup all data and apps with TI Backup!
2. Reboot into CWM
3. Backup your rom with CWM for the love of god!
4. Wipe data/Factory reset 3 times
5. Wipe cache 3 times
6. Wipe dalvik cache 3 times
7. Install a fresh ROM and DO NOT RESTORE DATA!!!
8. Boot into freshly installed rom and use TI Backup to batch restore everything you hold dear to you exept for Power Amp.
9. Restore Power Amp "APP ONLY" / Or install fresh copy
You will now notice that you can change songs as much as you want for as long as you want and no more errors!!!!
I hope this helps some of you out as it did for me. This also should work for any galaxy s phones as we seem to be the ones maily affected.

wow. All that just to get powerAMP working properly? Why not just use playerPRO

What is this in relation to? Is there a rom or mod that breaks it? I have been using it for about 8 months and have never had a problem. I am mostly stock with a theme, volume rocker and tws fix.

When you install a new rom and just "restore data" from CWM it somehow messes with the way power amp reads files and sees too many blank spaces or something in between songs.
Dont forget to export your contacts too, since you wont be restoring data! this is the best advice I can give. I know its a pain in the ass but all my friends with Epics, and even a fascinate bro, have done this and are now totally enjoying power amp without probs.

Ive had this issue a few times and decided to search about it... This is what I found to work without loading any data, well other than power amp settings... simply go to settings>applications>manage applications>poweramp the select clear data. Worked fine for me. i got the poweramp error, went to clear data, went back to poweramp and started listening to music.... just thought id chime in with a easier route

Contacts - Should always save them as "Google contact" so they automatically go into your contact list after logging in on your phone.
Messages - Go into market and search "SMS Backup" back it up then once you install your new ROM, download the same app again and restore it.
Apps - Use Titanium Backup to back up the apps. Then install it again after flashing and restore the apps.

Sure is. The simplest way is to make a backup with Clockwork recovery before you install the new rom and do wipe of data/factory reset, and all caches etc...
Once you have flashed the new rom, while still in Clockwork, goto Backup/Restore, choose Advanced, choose the backup you just made, and select only Data from the list. Everything you've asked for should be restored. Some widgets will not work on the first boot, you will have remove them from the home screen and re-add them.
Some apps will behave as if it's the first time you have run them, be aware of this.
This method makes for the simplest method of restoring everything that gets wiped when you install a rom that requires a full wipe of data + factory reset.
cool thanks, I got both methods done. gonna try to flash now. thanks

Does the backed up old data integer with a new rom/kernel though? I've been tempted to do this, but I'm worried that the data will conflict and cause issues.

Indeed, this method saves a lot of time.
I've had no issues using it, aside from widgets not working, until you re-add them to a home screen.

"Integer"? Did you mean integrate? or perhaps interfere?
I haven't had any issues using this method. I'd imagine any conflicts would be overwritten by the nature of restoring /data. If a rom author includes some .apks inside of /data, those will get over written. It's very easy to add them back though, just strip them from the roms zip, and copy over to the phone, then install.
I find this much easier than using Titanium Backup or some other app to restore apps and settings lost due to installing a rom.

While that seems to be perfect as far as restoring (and it does restore everything.) I seem to be having a problem with it once I run my rom, I'm having issues with sms locking up and the phone not coming out of sleep. I'm using Epic Exp 1.2.02 and Phoenix 1.43.
I've reloaded and restored date 3 diff times and still no luck..

Are you using SetCPU, while also having it set to something other Conservative mode? Try keeping it set to conservative. Also, SetCPU doesn't play nice with the Epic if you use a "Screen Off" profile. I don't have a solution other than to not use a Screen Off profile in SetCPU.
Boot recovery. Wipe data cache and dalvik (unless your rom requires somthing different) flash your rom/kernel. Reboot your phone and test. Determine whether the issue is with the rom/kernel or with the data restore. If the issue is the rom, head over to the rom's thread for support. If its not the rom boot into clockwork and try to restore data again. Maybe do an advanced restore?

[Q] LauncherPro Plus keeps refreshing - possible SD Card issue?

I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope this will do...
All of a sudden today my MT4G with LauncherPro Plus keeps refreshing or restarting or something on the home screen. Sometimes it does it every minute or so other times it does it so rapidly the home screen isn't even showing up before it does it again.
Worst part aside from the annoying bright flash every time it happens is that it kicks me out of apps to do it.
It's not a Force Close and no errors pop up it just refreshes to the Home screen as if I hit the Home button or restarted LauncherPro.
I am so confused.
I have no new apps recently, but I did Root a few days ago using The Unlockr's Visionary root.sh method. Had no problems when doing it and phone has been fine since until this. No custom ROM yet, still on Stock 2.2.1 while I research which one I want to get.
I already wrote to the LauncherPro people who thought it might be because Keep in Memory was checked, but it isn't checked so no help there.
There was one point when I unmounted my SD card to put it in the pc to get to the files because this issue kept kicking me out of Astro and I couldn't get anything done. And while the card was out, it did not do it. As soon as the card was back in though it started up again.
Sometimes restarting LP will help, but other times it will make it go more frequently. So frustrating.
Can anyone help or at least point me in the right direction. I have a video of it if that will help to post it, but it doesn't show much, just the home screen restarting several times. Also happy to provide any more info anyone thinks might be helpful it stopping this.
Thanks so much!
Jen

OK thank you very much I will check that out tomorrow. Don't want to try something new half asleep. LOL
Uninstall didn't work :-( it's still doing it. Not quite as frequently but bad enough I am still getting kicked out of apps. I'm wondering if it is even a launcherpro issue since I never had a problem before yesterday. Any and all suggestions, help, advice and ideas welcome. I'll try anything this is driving me crazy!
Lol try the Uninstall method but instead install another launcher then press the home button to choice the newly installed launcher and see if that works ?

Tried ADW Launcher and it did the same thing :-( Guess it is not LP after all. I put LP back and reboot. As of now it is not doing it, but I am very afraid to reboot or do anything in case it starts up again LOL
Can't help wondering if when I flash a new ROM it might stop altogether...

well depending on what ROM you have installed (Im assuming stock froyo after reading the OP), just run the ROM Manager app and then "reboot into recovery". from there, the recovery screen comes up. you can then "wipe cache partition", then "advanced>wipe dalvik cache". finally, "advanced>fix permissions" and after its done you can then reboot your phone. this USUALLY fixes a lot of problems with FC's and other issues

Update: It has continued to do it, not constantly, and seemingly randomly, but yeah, not totally fixed. Going to flash the new CM7, trying to fix other issues, maybe that will help.
I did try your above advice, wiped the caches, fixed permissions... it was stable for a few days then started up again. Really bad at first, like I wasn't even seeing the screen before it flashed again repeatedly. That was about a week or so ago... Now it is still doing it but every couple minutes instead. I mostly don't notice it unless I am in one of the apps it kicks me out of when it happens. Really really annoying. hopefully the new ROM will help.
Has anyone else been having this problem or found a solution. I've been trying to flash a new ROM this weekend, but can't stay in any apps long enough to prepare the phone for it. Titanium Backup and ROM Manager keep closing because of the launcher restarts. Not force closes, they just exit out and go back to the home screen which just keeps refreshing. I can't stay in Apps2Sd Pro long enough to move apps, can't stay in the market to update apps, and can't uninstall anything, I can't even stay in Astro long enough to do anything. It's driving me insane and I really want to make sure as many apps as I can are moved to the SD card and backed up to flash the new ROM. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Reboot into CWR (both volume buttons held in) while booting until you see “Vibrant'
Once there, go to Backup and run that. Should take about 5 minutes, maybe more.
If all hell breaks loose, this is a snapshot of your phone at that point... it's important to do this before flashing a new ROM!
I'm sure it's something stupid on my side BUT, all the options i have after booting in CWR are(blue): reboot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache data, format internal sd-card.
I decided NOT to touch any of those now since i cant find the Backup option on there, so i just rebooted my phone. Please guide me with a link or something. Thanks. I don't want to rush things.

thats the cwm recovery, i dont think you backup from there.
you backup using the app, and nandroid I think.
also make sure to save the backup onto your computer also!
also, there is a special folder, i forget which folder it is. it must be backed up separately i think. It contains your phones imei and other information, without it your radio and phone will not make calls. back that up. I forget what its called. If you loose that, you lost it for good and your phone is junk

That's actually incorrect. What you described is still the stock recovery menu. Cwm recovery has more options, and the text will either be green or red, depending on whether you have the ext4 (voodoo) lagfix applied.
If you have the correct CWM update.zip file on the root of your internal sd, then boot into stock recovery and select "reinstall packages." You'll be thrown back into stock recovery, whereupon you select reinstall packages a second time. That second one will put you in CWM recovery.
And to clarify, you CAN restore/backup from CWM (as well as many other things...maybe read up on that). Just remember that a backup does not include your kernel, in case you bounce between 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 roms.
Hope that helps...good luck.

You're thinking of EFS. I don't believe you can back that up through recovery. There is a different procedure for that which I can't recall off the top of my head.
Don't forget, after flashing you should wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and fix permissions. All are options in the recovery.

[Tweak] One Power Guard Problem

Well, i installed One Power Guard( the updated one) and after I didn't need it... I don't want to save battery, you know, I keep music on for 2 hours or more on.
Long Story:
Anyway, I uninstalled it. Then I started an Eminem song and I used Beats manager (and minimized it)to make it loud...and voila!!! When I switched off the screen the volume again came down!
Short Story:
After a couple of checks, I have found that now my phone swtiches off all the minimized apps when we switch off the screen.
So people, do you know any way to reverse this without flashing a new ROM?

Make a backup (cwm) of your current rom and wipe data/cache/dalvick cache from recovery and then try using the beats maneger. See if it works properly. If problem still persists restore the backup or flash back to stock rom from odin.
A Hero Can Be Anyone
maybe u can try any of these options.
1. maybe u just need to reboot ur phone; or
2. if u know how how to use CWM recovery, just wipe dalvik cache (dont wipe data); or
3. if u dont know CWM recovery, just use the stock one, then clear cache (dont wipe data); or
4. like bruce said, wipe data + cache, better with CWM recovery

[Help Needed] Apps won't restore or install after flashing rom [SOLVED!]

Well, my first venture into rom flashing hasn't been the most successful one as it's caused a really strange issue that a couple people on another thread have tried to help me solve, but I figure I had hijacked that thread long enough so this issue deserved it's own thread.
I rooted, unlocked bootloader, and installed TWRP v2.4.0.0 on Stock Android 4.1.1. Everything worked great. Until I flashed a rom. Now, I have been through wiping Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, Flashing the rom (I've tried 4 with the same exact issue), flashing Gapps... All seems to go well and it says "success" when I flash, and I reboot into system. Run the setup of Google. Everything seems great and working fine. Here's where the problem is. When Google Play Store starts downloading for restore, and I'm on a solid wifi connection, nothing downloads. I have also tried stopping the downloads and installing apps individually. When I do that, I receive the same error message over and over for any app:
Unknown error code during application install: "-24"
I've rebooted, wiped cache, dalvik cache. Nothing installs. Same error. I did somehow, some way, get Titanium backup to install after numerous tries... when I try to restore any of that backup it just hangs on the first app. It does not restore anything. No batch apps. No single apps. No app data.
The odd thing is, the first time I flashed a rom, it seemed to load up fine. Stupidly, when I was running Titanium Backup for a restore I was not paying attention to what I was restoring. I was restoring all apps and app data... It caused an issue and a bunch of force closes, as you can probably imagine. So I rebooted into recovery and wiped and reinstalled rom and gapps. And virtually nothing has installed since. I have wiped and reinstalled AOKP, PACman, Carbon, and CM to no avail. Nothing seems to solve my issue. I'd love to at the very least be able to regularly install apps from the Play Store. At this point I'm not even concerned with restoring app data if that's too much to ask. I just want to be able to use my phone normally again as this is my "daily driver". If I have to go back to 4.1.1, that would be fine with me. I just want to get back to normal. And I'll do whatever it takes to get there. Any help at all would be appreciated.

2 suggestions:
1) i think others have reported having issues with TWRP 2.4, so try 2.5 or 2.3.2.3
2) I think the error could be a lack of internal storage, so certainly try the "wipe internal storage" in TWRP (after making sure that your ROM/GApp files, backups (including Tibu) are saved to your external folder

Ok giving this a shot. I did notice that you had mentioned a different version of TWRP than I had. I will try the wiping internal storage before I install a different TWRP then if that doesn't work, TWRP. Gotta find the external folder. Unless you just mean anything that is on the actual SD card.

i would actually recommend installing TWRP 2.5 first.
never wipe external SD card.
if you have an app called Root Explorer, that works best.

EDIT: Since I am away from my computer, I tried the multiple wipe method. Didn't change anything. So I will be changing TWRP versions later and will post an update.

You never mentioned using TWRP 2.4. DEFINITELY replace that. Also, just a thought. If you haven't already done so, try using the option to fix permissions. I'm fairly sure its an option in TWRP.

Back in business! Wow thank you all so much! What a pain it's been but without the help I'd have never guessed how to get this running as perfectly as it is now. Here's what worked for me:
Installed TWRP 2.5 (Instead of what I had, 2.4)
Then followed jco23's precise directions:

- I use TWRP 2.3.2.3 (SS has been uninstalled via it's own app, not Tibu or the system awhile ago) - but TWRP 2.5 works just fine for others
- after downloading the ROM and GApps (or any file that I intended to flash for that matter), I always place the file on the mnt/external1 directory. I
m not sure if this will make a difference, but I recall it being an issue back on my Droid Charge days
- after flashing the files, does TWRP say successful?
- perhaps you do need to a double wipe of everything prior to flashing:
1) mount everything
2) wipe cache
3) wipe dalvik cache
4) wipe system
5) factory reset/wipe data
6) wipe internal storage (if you do this, make sure to change your TiBu backup folder to your external1 directory, or this will be gone too!!!!! also make sure that the system backup you made is on the external1 directory as well
7) reboot recovery
8) install ROM
9) install GApps

And it's working flawlessly. Able to download or restore anything from Gapps. Was able to restore some specific app data from Titanium Backup (did not want to ruin the phone again and do that full restore so I selected specific apps that I really wanted the data on).
Thanks to everyone who took the time to assist me and a special thanks to jco23 and netizenmt who were with me through this whole debacle, leading me through every possible fix they could think of. As for those of you that may be wondering which ROM I settled on... AOKP.
Good for you bro! That stinking TWRP 2.4.0 is such a menace! Wish there was a way to have it yanked from circulation. Glad you're up and running!

glad you finally got it working - this is just the first step in becoming a crack-flasher....

Yeah, I've got it bad. I have had CM 10.1, Slimbean, Carbon AND AOKP on my phone all in the last 2 days. Carbon is on it right now. No telling what will be on it by tonight.

funny, and the goal is to find a ROM that you're happy with and don't need to flash.
but I've been on Carbon since 7/5, and very happy.
