SD card is "invisible" to PC - how can I access it? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi,
I am running WP7 and AmeriCanAndroid on it. SD card is partitioned, so I have one partition for each of the OSs.
The problem that I have is that I want to update my Android version (I have to overwrite some files in "Android" folder) and I can not access the SD card.
I have installed Zune software, phone is visible (I am in WP7 mode), and Zune tells me there are over 3 GB available. But my Windows Explorer does not see is as mass storage device.
OS on PC is XP and my SD card is 8GB. Any advice?
Thank you.

Hi
boot your phone to magldr. Then choose point 4 (USB MassStg). Now you can connect your phone to PC and finally you can see the Android Folder.

Thank you.
I will try that to see if it works after my Android gets installed (waiting for 15 mins already).
I found an workaround. Put my SD card in a Symbian phone, which was able to access it, and used the Symbian phone as "card reader". It worked...

After WP7, used Partition Manager for formate to SD

[Q]How to make SD card ready for WP7?

Hi,
I have Sandisk 2gb SD card which comes with hd2, i installed WP7 but it seems that WP7 can not recognize my SD because when i put SD in my computer nothing is changed in my SD even i tested it, I put some files in SD and reinstall WP7 so as far as i understand wp7 has to format my SD put its specific partition but guess what nothing is changed in my SD even that files remain in the same place...
So i tried to format SD my self with FAT32 and FAT and even i delete my SD partition and none of them make WP7 format and make partitions on my SD card...
P.S-1 My SD card is working i tested it wit my computer by formatting copy some files there so read and write is ok.
P.S-2 WP7 booted correctly in this situation i mean when SD is in device the only problem i have is WIFI can not find any router when SD is in device, when i took it out wifi start working, why i'm saying this because i aware of compatibility issue of WP7 with some SD cards where it reboots if it is not compatible .
same thing happens to me, I am now trying to reinstall (again) wp7, and it seems it got stuck at the DFT screen..... previously it booted almost inmediately. maybe it is partitioning it?, for those of you guys that sd card works, wp7 boots inmidiately?
Yeah SD cards makes crash wifi !
And i cannot use it... Flash WP7 with formated SD cards NTFS but still doesn't works !
First time i istalled WP7 without SD card and when i afterward inserted card nothing was changed. Then i made Factory Reset from Settings menu and my phone started to restart over and over from point where DFT banner shws first time after loader. Then i went to the loader and as i can remember then i re-selected preferred boot source and then for me all was good. Now it show 1.6GB free space with my original HD2 SD card.
i am having axactly the same trouble. i have a san disk 2 gb too. it'll be enough for me but wp7 does not recognize it. i installed both sd-card inserted and sd-card not inserted. i booted with sd-cad and without sd-card. i tried every posibility but no result
reserved space is %95 on zune and it tells me there is no disk space. so i cant start using it full functionally and it makes me really sad
any help is appreciated. thanks.

I have exact the same problem.. i found some sort of "solution". but it is a bit strange. when I pull out the sd card, boot my phone in magldr, insert my sd card and boot wp7, It shows the normal storage instead of the 15 mb.
but when I try a normal reboot without going to magldr, its going back to the 15 mb. and when I try to sync my phone with zune,(with the put-sdcard-in-phone-when-in-magldr-solution) everything goes slow.
Dont know if you (or someone else) already found a "good" solution?
greetz
all of you guys have an incompatible SD card, sorry guys, will need to buy a new one, its a bit of a lottery as that too might not work and dispite what some on here say its impossible to recomend anything.
only advice i can give is get a card that class 2 or 4 and dont spend money on a card that you may end up using for a tiny paperwight
is my sd card gone?
After I successfully flash WM7, I juz realize that my pc not recognize my sd card when i connect my phone to d computer. First, i thought becoz of some bug of wm7 so i try to flash android back. I took my sd card put into a card reader but it still not recognize my sd card. Is it gone?
What about the sd unlock tool that xbmod released ? try a few nokia devices or a device which takes sd card to see if you can unlock... Check out 96edwy video on YouTube on how to unlock after wp7
I have the same problem like arrirang .
When I put my SdCard to CardReader, windows 7 does not recognize SD Card in reader. If I try proces mentioned in video tutorial -> result is the same. Device USB Mass Storage is displayed in device manager with error code.
I was trying it in three computers (two with windows 7 x64 and one with Windows XP) - the result was allways the same.
Any one help me?
EDIT:
I have found this solution:
1. Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
2. At PC, enter WP7-Update-Cab-Sender folder.
3. Go to ‘if needed install this tool’ folder.
4. Install Setup-UpdateWP (x64 for 64 bits Windows and x86 for 32 bits Windows).
5. Copy DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab to WP7-Update-Cab-Sender folder.
6. Run WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat.
7. Then type S – (S)end Cabs to device.
8. After finished installation, close WP7 Update Cab Sender.
9. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
10. At WP7, launch StorageLock.
11. Click yes to unlock SD card.
12. Shutdown your phone.
13. Put your SD card into card reader.
14. Launch Partition Wizard Home Edition (download it here)
15. You should see 2 partitions on SD card.
16. Delete both of them.
17. Create a primary FAT32 file type partition.
18. Click ‘Apply’ to begin the process.
19. That’s all.
It works! I kid you not!!

You should know that Installing wp7 locks your card so thats why it is not recognised by your pc..
Have you installed mango or another wp7 version on this sd card or succesfully on another?? I take it, you have no nokia devices that can format your card?
If you have mango installed transfer the storageunlock.cab to the phone followed by partition cab (got to be less than your total capacity) Reset your phone check if partition has taken effect..unlock using storage lock.turn off phone ..take sd card out into adapter into your pc now it should be readable (not full capacity bear in mind) you have to use easeus partition tool to format to full..
If you have mango on a different sd card and want to recover the corrupt one
Check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286511
Or if your using just the same sd card you have to start over again and reflash from task 29 stock magdlr radio ie then storage unlock tool
Good luck
hey my problem is that wp7 in my hd2 shows internal memory of 175mb only even though my 8gb sd card is inserted in it..i cant seem to find a sloution to make my phone show the sd card memory..any solution please?
I have the same problem
it's probably because you installed wp7 without the sd card in it and you did not hard reset after installing rom...if so, you need to do a hard reset with the sd card in it for wp7 to recognize the card. or you have a bad card to begin with and the wp7 install had problems.

[Q] reboots everytime to windows

i have got HTC HD2 with android v 2.2.1.. every time i transfer a file on the SD card via usb, the phone does not recognize the file. i tried doing the same in windows 6.5 and it works.
Secondly, every time my phone restarts, it boots windows 6.5 whereas i have android installed. how do i fix these issues???
It sounds like you are using a Service card Android build. When you reboot your HD2 from a SD card build it is suppose to boot back into Windows Mobile cause that is what is in the actual internal memory of the phone, which the internal memory is what the SOL of the bootloader is programmed to boot up. To have Android boot up from SD card on it's own house need to install a dual boot app, just Google "Dual Boot Apple for Windows Mobile" or go the the HD2 Windows Mobile themes and apparently forum and do a search there.
If I am not mistaken to have been your SD card work properly as a mass storage device when connected to a computer you have to have USB. Debugging on. To do this while in Android go to Settings>Applications>Development and check USB Debugging.
If you're using an SD build it's known that SD builds restart to WinMo, you shouldv'e read it somewhere by now.
Files transfered to the Card on android are not recognised unless you restart the phone or transfer them when you're on WinMo, also transferring the files to an SD android version using diskdrive mode means you're risking braking the build or corrupting your SD card, it can be fixed with either scanning your card for system file errors or formatting it in worst case scenario..
anyway, the safest way to transfer files to SD while plugging your SD android over the USB is by using the Dual Mount SD app, the speed is a bit decreased, but the device will recognize them when you unplug it.

Is it safe to unmount the SD card on an SD build?

Sorry if this is a n00b question... but I've been able to unmount and remount the SD card in my HD2, or connect it to my computer via USB (which unmounts it on the phone side), all while running Android from that same card.
I'm wondering if this is safe to do, or if the only "safe" method is shutting down Android and rebooting into Windows Mobile. After all, the 1GB data.img and the Android system are both kept on the card, so if it is unmounted, you'd think the system would crash or otherwise corrupt data...
Thanks.

I do think the system would crash or be corrupted because if all the files are running from the SD card and then it is removed, then all files would not be accessible causing the system to crash or even worse - corrupt data. Whenever run it from the SD card and connect it to my computer I use the app called "Dual Mount SD" which allows me to still access my SD card (from my phone), which means the android files on the SD card can still be accessed by the phone for the system to still run. I believe this way is the safest.
I read somewhere that someone removed it and nothing happened, but take it from someone who tried it: Do NOT remove the card from the phone when it's running android. and unless the developer specifically says that it's safe to connect his build through diskdrive mode do not connect it that way as well!
I'm using the above mentioned program and it works fine. Music and other media files will be recognized by the music app only after you rescan the card using any free tool available (search the net/market for a tool to rescan the card on android) and that's all you need

SD card unavailable

hi,
i have htc h2 with android platform, last night i install win7 and my SD card 8GB also inside the mobile, after installation finish i cant see any option abt memory in win7 mobile also when i remove mem card my mobile switch offed and my android OS totally gone i can't send d receive any files via bluetooth
Now i want dual operating system and memory card must be work in win7 and android i have two 8Gb cards.
Any suggestion would me great appreciat
On win7 -settings -about should show memory
When you install win7 on any sd card, this will encrpyt the sd card, so it will not be readable unless you recover it using, for example a nokia device there is a thread on this forum listing all the devices that can recover sd card..
Your android oS will be not be available because Win7 will be installed as Nand (over android on the phone) but for dual boot android must run from sd card
What you need to do
Maybe use the same sd card or different sd card
Install win7 - when successfull
Install dev_lock cab by cab sender
Install partition_cab (less than 8gb) and reset your phone from about
Turn on storage lock..turn phone off
Put sd card in sd adapter and transfer android sd rom onto it
Go through the magdlr options( on this forum)
Dual boot should be set up
Hi, thanks for your reply.I'm not comfort with windows 7 because some features very annoying, bluetooth nt working and when i press green button to atten are dial call camera opening always its really very silly, i need to install only android what i hav to do for installing android and my SD card showing only 200mb in pc i nt format yet if i format i cant use my mobile. plz slove my problem
you have to recover your sd card first so if you can, reformat using nokia devices or use the unlock cab followed by partition cab then easeus mini tool to fully reformat then install android through magdlr
i recover my SD card and Now i installed Android version 2.2 everything working fine except internal memory i can't use internal memory its show Available internal storage space 614MB.when i transfer any photos r mp3 via blue-tooth it asking memory card. where is my internal memory gone

Installing Android on Windows Phone without SD card

Hi All
I have been using Android GB on my HTC HD Touch 8282 (Windows mobile) till today morning.
and suddenly my phone stopped responding. i gave a hard reboot to my card and it booted in windows. To run Haret.exe i tried finding it. but phone is not recognizing SD card itself. I checked SD card using card reader. it is using. i inserted another SD card in card slot but its still not detected by phone.
Is there any way i can boot directly from SD card to Android . or can i install Android on my Windows memory directly as i dont want to use Windows.
Please help me you genius people.
Abhi
You can't load Android without sdcard... by now. I got lots of problems with microsd HC ones, try a normal or "old" microsd card! Then, if you don't want to load windows before running hare.exe, I suggest you to install Gen Y bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792), very simply and user friendly! It allows you to run Android very quickly and automatic, you choose between Windows and Android at startup...

Unfortunately if his SD card reader isn't working, Gen.Y isn't going to do a whole lot of good.
OP, if your phone in WinMo isn't reading SD cards, you've got big issues. Try re-seating the card, make sure it's being seated correctly, etc.
Try a non HC card as was previously suggested.
Good luck.
