I downloaded a zip file theme from my cell phone's browser using androzip that I got from the market and flash a theme.. androzip works great.... any one else used androzip?

I recommend androzip for rar files and other archives. Use astro for general file browsing and root explorer for technical stuff.

So im trying to download a zip file and it's always unsuccessful. I've used dolphin browser, skyfire and the default browser. I've downloaded astro file manager and even androzip and went into astro to enable it to recognize but no matter what I do it fails. Any help?

Is it a 7-zip file? Not sure if that would make the difference...
my .02 cents...
It is. Can I just not download that type of zip file?

I was just curious but why do all the dev's include Astro? I dont see the benifits of this file management app when Androzip and ES File Explorer are so much better! Androzip has a built in backup utility, task manager and app installer/uninstaller, and it also allows you to unzip rar, zip, 7zip, and tars while ES File allow for that plus networking!
i would venture to say the dev of astro allows for distribution and others don't.
Yea, I was all about Astro until I tried ES File Explorer and realized that it allows me to stream videos over my network. That is a killer feature that Astro can't match.

The above mention are too free in the Market but I could see those dev not wanting there work to be distributed by other means....thanks for the insight...but as far as advantages, is it safe to say that there are NONE and that these are better alternatives?
The Syndicate 2.1 ROM comes with ES File Explorer.
Kinda on this topic, does anyone know of an app like astro that when backing up apps, it save apps data too? Otherwise astro works great.

I don't know of any file explorer apps that do that, I do know that the free version of Titanium Backup works like a champ though.

Thats a good sign then, maybe more dev's will start noticing that these two are far better options than Astro.

Good question. I have both AndroZip and ES File Explorer, and have never seen the need for Astro.
For that matter I wonder why anyone feels the need to package any of these apps into a distribution. Anyone can just go to the Market and download whichever utilities they want.
Which is the best file manager available for P500
I wanna include it in my CM7 release
Shrug; check File Expert.

close thread, theres no best file manager, please close thread!
I think "File Expert" is pretty awsome.
It has a built-in ftp and smb server.
It is a root explorer.
You can open files with every app you want to open it!
Just give it a try

Astro File Manager
I like Astro File Manager.
astro file manager is best
Use ES file explorer....
WHY???
Because:-
*built in text editor
*built in rar,zip extractor
*built in zip compressor
*built in app backup
*built in dropbox file manager
*built in Media Player
*built in image viewer
*ES Task killer module(Which really kills task empties & RAM,it's better in killing task than ATK )
*Root Explorer
*Themes....etc.
Give It a try and remember to see the settings.....
file expert. tons of feature & still really easy to use.
Hello again, ive come across another problem, ive just tried to download cyanogenmod zip file on my phone but as soon as the download starts it stops straight away, when i click on it it says download not supported for your phone??
I can download from market and i can also download a rar file from this site as well, so it just seems to be zip files.
It was fine yesterday, does anyone have any advice please??
Thanks

Wrong forum. This is more a question. But you need to install a filebrowser capable of reading zip files to download them. ES File Explorer or I/O File Explorer would do the trick. It does on mine.
Download astro file manager, free in market, and then go to preferences>> enable browser downloader. Now you can download anything
Or use Opera Mobile for your browser

I'm looking for a program that can download, open and extract zip files. Any ideas or recommendations?

I like Zarchiver. It doesn't have the best looking UI, but it does its job, and does it well. Plus, it's about the only one I could find with native support for 7z compression. It's also fast & lightweight.

+1 for zarchiver, fast and reliable and no bloat

I know B1 Free Archiver's not bad. is also a great file manager. I download it from Google Play, it's very easy to find it.

I used ZArchiver but it crashed sometimes in my case. Now I'm using X-plore file manager's built in archiver. In my opinion this is the best except for it's old school interface..
Please press the thanks button if I helped you.
Have a good day...
Extracted files lose their timestamps
I like the TotalCommander file manager, which has a very fast and efficient ZIP built in amongst other great features.
The only problem is that when unzipping files, their timestamps get lost. The files that are INSIDE the archive reflect the correct file-date-and-time, but after extracting them, the restored files have their timestamps overwritten.
So I tried a standalone ZIP manager, ZArchiver, but i'm getting the same problem there too!
If anyone is able to extract files with their original timestamps intact, then which app are you using?
TIA
