[Q] custom splash and boot animation - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Teach me please!

Google it, please. Zillions of zillions of guides for both of them. Nothing changed since 2009, just use the correct 480x800 resolution.
Coming from someone who googled, and made both for himself.

You can skip Googling and just search the "Q&A" and "themes and apps" XDA forums- there are threads covering both subjects.
Just scroll a few pages further down or use the "search this forum" tool...

New questions

I read and searched a lot on the forum before posting this.
1/ Why is there 1000 methods to flash a ROM?
2/ Do I need to do a partition in all cases?
3/ Is there a ROM for 32A that adds multi touch to my device?
4/ Might be a lot to ask but why is there no PROPER tutorial on how to install a ROM?
5/ Can I brick my phone?
Thanks for your time.
This is not a development question. This belongs in the Q&A section. Read the stickies. From those stickies, you would also see a Hacking Wiki for the sapphire.
Read that.

I use MyHero 1.1.3 (32A with BFS 303 kernel) and multitouch DOES work. But it needs to be supported by the software, works great in the browser for example.
Ok good to know, i was not quite sure about it

Erm .. there's only one way to flash a rom ..
- Download rom and copy it to the sd card root folder
- Boot into recovery
- Do a nandroid backup
- wipe
- Flash the new rom
- reboot
4/ Might be a lot to ask but why is there no PROPER tutorial on how to install a ROM?

Also check the Sapphire hacking wiki as bcrook mentioned above.

Thats what I was thinking too
and my fav question out of the list:
Can I brick my phone?
Let me answer this one... from your list of questions I find it hard to believe you even know what "brick" means (no offense) but you should NOT even attempt to change anything about your phone except for whats in the menu>settings>sounds/display area
and I'll say it again no offense but people like this that have no idea what their doing is why the companies are so against us gaining root access because yeah theres some of us that understand what we are doing and the concept of linux but then you have these people that have NO CLUE then screw their phones up and guess who they call... not the dev, but the company crying about how they need a new phone...
Bottom line is if you dont know what you doing, DONT DO IT!

Looking to learn how to customize my ROM

Hi all,
After seeing all the great work and many different ideas people had for their themes and roms, I figure instead of asking for a bunch of signed files, I'd try to figure this out and learn how to do it myself.
I'm looking, for example, how to use RegawMOD's matrix bootscreen or Godson's else's taskbar etc.. on Damageless or Fresh's ROM. I figure I'd start with just the looks and themes before learning how to do anything that I could really screw up. Or how to make my own clear lock screen...
Anyway I'd appreciate any help or even a point in the right direction!

If I find the files I'm looking for can I just push them from one ROM to the phone through ADB? As for the apk, is it just a zip i can rezip? And then jsut push? Thanks again!

Accessing the "system" folder

Hello, I rooted my Legend a few days ago and I'd like to modify some files in the "system" folder which is not available while the phone is running. To access I have to go to fastboot...I think.
I'm actually a little confused :/

How am I supposed to search about "System overlay legend" when I don't know what it is in the first place? Sorry if my question was too noobish but I'm just new to this stuff and my google search terms didn't seem to help at all.
Anyway, thanks.

Using "Root Explorer" a file manger app; find the system/build.prop folder; within build.prop look for the DNS settings towards the bottom of the file and change as needed/recommended per your carrier, i.e. T-Mobile for me.

So I took out the "NAND" but I don't understand your vagueness: There is an WMRom listed, it's VBN and it's the first link, there is another link for EBL, the autoboot app, etc.
Too many words, too few spaces between lines. Just a whole mess of words. Your info is good but "search" covers all this. Now one more result to sift through.

Thanks for the feed-back! I know it's a lot, but there are a lot of questions that repeat themselves that this would help to answer, especially for "Noobs". Obviously, for more "seasoned" members, we have gone through most of this when we set things up for the first time, or, believe it or not, even though we've been at this for a while some of these are new to us. I clean-it-up-a-bit and hopefully make it easier to read.
Merry Christmas!

Do you have "Titanium back-up", "ES file explorer" or "Root explorer"?
I have "Root Explorer" on my apps link.
But, here you go;
MOD EDIT:: ATTACHMENT REMOVED. ROOT EXPLORER IS A PAID APP FROM THE MARKET PLACE AND SO IT IS WAREZ AND CANNOT BE POSTED HERE.
