Can you tell us where you get the update file? Can you share it?
Also, how you flash the file? Through recovery?
Can you describe the 'brick' situation? Boot loop?
Finally, how are you going to restore back to original?
Thanks a lot.
He should be able to nvflash back I'd think.

I think that he can use a stock update.zip and flash it through recovery.

Hadn't been following our support too closely. I just assumed it worked on all tegra tabs equally. God what I wouldn't give for tabs to be like PCs.
Use the chinese update.zip
Its not bad... I had to use it because I was fooling around too much and crashed with no reboot in sight. I used SYSTEMAPP REMOVER to disable all the chinese apps and root explorer to delete the old files in /system/app then rebooted.
Also, you can add the marketplace through the /system/app just enable read/write and there is no need to push through ADB!!! it will give you error once, rewrite over the files again, re-install, and re-start and voila... you get the free games from the "GoMarketHD" and you get the MARKET back, granted, its not the HONEYCOMB market but hey, its the market... jejeje

So I went ahead and just did it ran the ruu. So i been trying ways to unroot this as much as my not so experienced self is. Well first i tried to replace the rom.zip with an older one as if that was done it would be the easiest way. well replaced it but it didn't successfully flash once it got to the flash bootloader part. Then I booted to recovery and first thing it said was E:can't archive /cache/recovery/command. So I tried to apply update.zip it started to go through but got a signature failure. Anyways any help with this would be great

Throw it into the toilet and get a warranty replacement quick, before all the phones have 2.1.
Other then that, the only way to find root would be to have a good knowledge of linux, kernels, c, etc, and find known linux exploits and go down the list and try them.

I'm getting a new one today from craigslist so if I never post again then I'll be one of those when craigslist goes wrong stories on the news.
Also I never got the warranty from sprint I got the warranty from radioshack because they said that they cover everything but water damage. So right before I threw it off my roof I called radioshack to make sure they would cover it they said they only cover wear and tear and software.
I still would like to know how to make an sign an update zip though so I can flash it through recovery.

Yes and no. While in the new recovery it gives you the ability to flash an update zip from your sd but I get signature fails if I could fake the signature then I could flash a rooted rom and carry out from there putting a new recovery image and so fourth

What happens if you try flashing any of the released roms out there, like fresh rom? It is signed using test keys. That would be crazy if the new recovery lets you flash any signed rom, but I predict it's locked down to HTC's keys which are privately encrypted keys. You can't fake them.

i may be crazy.... but if we find a way to root this 2.1 before they release it couldn't they then patch that exploit? maybe this is why they "leaked" it so we could have a chance to find any holes or exploits in the software/bootloader/recovery?

Sweet link bro!
FIRST TRY... Edited system.img (KERNEL 2.6.36.3 only!!!)
WARNING: ONLY USE THIS IF YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR /DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0P3 IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE YET, MAKE ONE BY USING THIS:
IF FROM ADB:
ADB SHELL
SU
IF=/DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0P3 OF=/SDCARD/SYSTEM.IMG
IF FROM TERMINAL EMULATOR:
SU
IF=/DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0P3 OF=/SDCARD/SYSTEM.IMG
THIS IS A FUNCTIONAL FILE SYSTEM, I AM WORKING ON A CUSTOM ROM WITHOUT HAVING TO HAVE THE BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED.
THE ONLY THING THAT HAS CHANGED ON THIS SYSTEM.IMG IS THE BOOT ANIMATION (INSTEAD OF "ANDROID" IT HAS THE HONEYCOMB BEE) AND THE FONT HAS CHANGED ALSO...
AGAIN, THIS IS JUST A TEST, IT IS THE FULL FILE SYSTEM TO BE USED ON A DAILY BASIS BUT DOES NOT HAVE ANY OPTIMIZED FILES AT THIS TIME.
Alright, now that you have read the warning... download this file here:
LINK = http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1YZSDVZI = LINK
You can then push the file through ADB by typing:
dd if=/sdcard/blk0p3_sys.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
Post if it worked for you or if it did not, this will help me troubleshoot...
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR FILES FIRST!!! THIS FILE IS BASED ON USA MODEL 1.104.05_GEN1 ACER A500. I RECOMMEND TO TRY ONLY IF YOU HAVE HAD TO UNBRICK YOUR TABLET BEFORE. I DONT WANT TO MESS UP YOUR TABLET!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! JEJEJE
Please post if it has worked for you or if it glitched, I am currently in trial and error so... my tablet gets bricked 1-3 times a day because I am testing different things on the system images... hopefully, I can find a way to have root on the image or at least include:
1. File manager
2. ROOT or at least the Gingerbreak.apk already installed.
3. Terminal emulator
4. Custom background upon boot
As stated, it works for me but I have only 1 tablet so if you are daring enough, please dont hessitate to help me in getting this up and running...
I AM NOT A DEVELOPER SO PLEASE BARE WITH ME AS I AM TRYING TO LEARN AS I GO... JEJEJE

but just look at "Crsdr37"'s post in general with the imgs and update zip to get back to stock and updates!!!
and to the person who made the IMG keep up the good work. im not gonna flash it and im happy with being stock and getting updates now ;D
Have you figured out how to apply the incremental updates to the img?
I suspect it's just replacing files, I'll look at it when I get to a PC.

Never did. Am back now on the EMEA version and going to wait until someone cracks the code. I have reflashed so much I can do it with my eyes closed.
i am going to try it as well nice thing you guys do
Great
Cheers man, !
So, pulling your system image from /DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0P3, then modifying it, then pushing it back works?
Let me try and understand here:
I thought the whole locked bootloader thing checked signatures on the images that are about to be loaded into memory, such as the image in /system.
According to this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/hkbf3/so_you_want_to_know_about_bootloaders_heres_the/
It says:
What does a bootloader do with digital signatures?
It uses them to check any update that passes through it.
So: dd any partition we want to modify, back it up in a safe place, mount the img we get from that, make changes within the img, and dd it back, = all good?
ie: signed bootloaders only have to do with installing update.zips on the sdcard?
Can someone clear this up for me?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't know how to answer that... I have to make my changes through the tab and then pull the system.img. Everytime I make edits externally, my tablet crashes... That's why I'm in testing right now.

Dude, chill man... You are right, your question does ask about headway for the updates but here are the facts:
You are asking about updates on a BETA Rom that is just in testing...
I took your question to be if the ROM file had the updates (My fault for sure). I was not yelling per say nor trying to be rude but rather making sure that people are aware this is in no way an updated image and should not be treated as such... THIS IS A TEST ROM and since your question was posted within its thread, I took it as if it was directed to the image itself and not toward me and my development...
Look, as stated, im not a developer man, this stuff is a little hard for me to do. I do apologize because I did not answer your question correctly/completely but as far as the comment... Its what I meant. jejeje

I attempted to flash the Motorola Xoom rooted boot.img on my Thrive.
It didn't work.
I have been unable to find a stock(or rooted) version of the Thrive boot.img so I can unbrick my device.
Can someone please
1.Provide a working boot.img
or
2.Instruct me on how to extract it from an intact Thrive?
I guess its safe to assume anyone working on rooting would have a copy of it
I would really appreciate the help!
Edit: I have been looking for hours for information on how to extract the boot.img from a device like this and have been having no luck.
Can someone please help me?
I realize what I did was idiotic...
I'll never mess with anything that says "boot" again unless I really know what I'm doing.
This is why we need a dev forum!
someone with a working thrive please try this.
mmcblk0p11 is the boot partition of the atrix 4g
please replace mmcblk0p11 with the boot partition mount point of the toshiba thrive.
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/mnt/sdcard-ext/boot.img
then post your boot.img here please
In the meantime, I'm getting a call back from level 2 tech Toshiba support in an hour. Trying to convince them to give me a copy of the recent firmware update. So "I can see what they changed, as there was no changelog".
Odds I succeed?
what is the exact model of the thrive?

I heard that the thrive comes with a unlocked bootloader?
The sbk is the boot loader and has nothing to do with root access.
with a unlocked bootloader we can root the thrive with the same fastboot flash preinstall process as the atrix.
has anyone figured out how to get to the menu for android recovery, fastboot, etc?
btw root is a part of the system.img not the boot.img
boot.img is the kernel

yes, that's how I bricked my tablet, by using fastboot to flash a xoom rootboot.img. Fastboot and recovery are available from simple menu by holding down power and volume up when booting up.
The fastboot is completely unlocked from the factory, you don't even have to issue an unlock command.
Did you take a look at android-dls wiki site they've got tut's for extracting the kernel, if you have access to a working thrive. I used it to retrieve my friend's phone's kernel after bricking mine during one of my first root attempts ever.
I will be getting the thrive soon (Cant wait) and will be attempting to extract the kernel out of the machine. I'll post it soon as I get it, seems to be in high demand right now. Glad to hear the bootloader comes unlocked out of the box. Hopefully you can get yours back up and running.

Which tutorial, this one? Its the only related one I've been able to find and it doesn't mention how to pull the kernel off the device itself.

Wed. Thurs at the latest... Well we need to get developers working on these things. I sense huge potential in this device, as I'm sure everyone else who has half a brain and picked it up did as well.
Is you recovery.img shot? or did you back it up at all? Normally you need someone to release the source for a .zip to appear even one for the stock rom. Google's taking its sweet time releasing the source codes. 3.0 was obtained through asus or was it acer... always get those two mixed up... after all. I think we may have to cool our heels till icecream comes out for developers to start doing their thing (or some big to release the source code).

My recovery is fine, its just the kernel.
My level 2 tech support discussion was a mixed bag. The guy essentially said it was extremely odd that the firmware update wasn't on the website and that they hadn't even heard about it. He sent an e-mail out to his entire department to find out what's going on. Hopefully that gets sent up the pipeline and it shows up under thrive downloads on the support website.

You can't do OTA update with CWM. You need stock recovery.
Restart your tab, go get Acer Recovery Installer app in market. It will allow you to install official recovery. This is the easiest way but works only for rooted devices.
Cheers

Actually, you can install this through CWM, but you need to make some changes. Several in the install.script. Then in the rom itself, you need to remove a couple of things. Mainly bootloader.blob. and recovery folder. These are the things you have to compensate for in the install.script.
Also, may be a recovery file in there also that needs to be removed. Acer has been getting clever these days. Something like boot.p (civato has it named in his guide)
If you can post the update.zip you have, so some of us can look at it, we can put it in a CWM format.
Okay I will post the ota as it came in before I modified it. It was in my cache. So if I post this then you can turn it into something I can use to go back to 100% stock? That is what I am really looking to do with the boot loader locked and root gone and cwm? Also I did not know that there was an app that retires the stock recovery. That is pro ally the best way if it works because if I use that then I should be able to just use the update the w/ay it is I think. Anyway I will all try that and also post those files when I get home tonight after work. Thank you for your help wit this.

Actually someone over at the acer fourm made a CWM flashable .zip for the update. But it is only the rom so mit dosnt help me I want to lock the bootloader. So I did try the market app and it does work so what I am thinking is restoring my first nandroid the one I made right after I installed cwm so it will get rid of the last update then restoring my bootloader from the market app then taking the ota the way it came over the air and renaming that update.zip and booting into recovery then it should do the ota update and when it is done everything should be back to stock I think. My only question is do I put it on my inyernal or external sd card? I guess I will try both. I will let you know how I make out.
Okay I am posting the official OTA the latest one for the a200 I am posting the one as it came over the air pulled right out of my cache. I have never done this before so bear with me. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32696206/B2435D271BA1D0BC231D6BE66778A6AB.zip
Okay so I think that I did that right if It doesnt work let me know If anyone can make a flashable out of this that will lock the bootloader and get rid of CWM let me know. And thanks for all of your help

Have cash, will gladly donate to known/verifiable dev. Have verified rooted 183827U ThinkPad Tablet with CWM. Need to get from rooted 0086US/CWM to ICS unrooted/no CWM. I have to send my tab in for repairs, and only one of my nandroid backups is working. I was at 0089, but am now at 0086 and unable to apply any updates at this point. Need this soon, please. If I don't already know you, show me your dev posts. Show me your mad skills and I'll show you my bucks .
Please contact me via PM. Thanks.
TF - have you considered using CWM to restore the OTA3 ICS US Nandroid I posted on everyrandom.com?
It will get you to ICS and after that, a factory reset will get you back to stock Recovery and (maybe) unroot at the same time.
http://www.everyrandom.com/files/files.php?start=2 --> it is file number 24 (good luck with the wonky download system)
Will this work from 0086_US 64GB?
It should be fine. It is from a 32gb US tablet.
Thanks!!!

Nice idea, but I couldn't get their system to let me download the file, even after registering.
Thanks anyway.
new link for OTA3 nandroid
Here TF - I've been meaning to put it in my Dropbox public folder. That everyrandom file site is borked.

ROM history: I factory reset my rooted US 32GB OTA2.5 tablet, upgraded to OTA3 from within CWM, then created the ROM before rebooting.
The only thing that comes to mind is that I believe there is a firmware upgrade in the OTA3 process. Your tablet may need a second go around of installing OTA3 to get your firmware updated but as we've seen with CM9 and CM10, upgraded firmware is not necessary for ICS and JB.
Let me know how it goes!
