Hi guys,
So I flashed, rooted and installed GreyBlur on mu Bell atrix, by following instructions from "seven2099"
It installed great and I have noticed a HUGE improvement in speed and other things.
Only problem, is now I can't connect to any bell networks for my 3G.
WiFi works fine. I am only posting in here, because I am not aloud to post in the developers section, so I am hoping this message can either find its way to "seven2099", or someone in here might know whats up.
Thanks in advance!
If you can do everything except connect to the Internet via 3G then you need to add your APN settings back in:

Good but for one thing: Do NOT fill in APN Type. In the linked post it says 'Internet + mms'. I could not get a connection when I had that filled in, as soon as I set APN Type back to undefined it worked right away.
Just sayin'
excellent!
all worked out great!
thanks alot guys!
Bell Atrix always Roaming after 2.1.1
HI all
I spent two days trying to get to the bottom of this..
I installed 2.1.1 on Bell Atrix.. the first things I noticed the little (r) near the signal, checked the system info and it say ROAMING, my Data does not work unless I put Data Roaming on..
I am with Fido, and of course FIDO cannot tell me if really I am paying Roaming charges until the bill date which is 20 days away..
has anyone experienced that problem and has an explanation of some sort? Am I really Roaming or becuase its FR SBF the phone is reporting Roaming??
this is very disturbing and puzzeling as well.. any thoughts is really appreciated.

Hi! I am experiencing trouble connecting to AT&T EDGE on my unlocked Topaz. I purchased this phone aware of the fact that I wasn't going to have 3G available but not having EDGE as well is very disappointing.
I have an AT&T GoPhone account and I have also installed the recommended settings from the Connection Wizard that popped up when I had inserted my SIM Card. However, I constantly have a gray E icon on my status bar and I am unable to access the internet. When I test the internet connection by trying to update the weather I get the following error: "The answering modem disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings."
I have called AT&T they kept me waiting for an hour and were not able to help me. They were going to file a report for the tech support to review but they did not file the report that because I did not have another telephone number to give to them beside my cell phone for them to call me back(I am an international college student, I don't have a land line). I then tried to get help from their online chat support but their system won't allow me because my account is a GoPhone. So I am stuck here with my $450 dollar phone not able to enjoy its features to its full extent .
Is there anyone else that has experienced this problem? Or is there anyone that could help me configure the connection settings manually?
Thanks!

Check with your service provider that the edge service is enabled for your account. Then check you have paid for the correct plan (I don't know the procedure that applies to AT&T, but they may require all this).
If you have everything enabled/paid for then there is no technical reason why you should not be able to connect unless there is no service in your area!

pa49, thanks for your reply. I am sure that edge service is enabled for GoPhone accounts (not 3g though) and I am sure there is service in the area. If I am not wrong, the gray "E" icon on my status bar is telling me that there is edge available but that I am not able to connect to it.
I am just hoping that there is someone here that is using an unlocked HTC touch diamond2 in the united states that is able to access the internet via edge.

Ok. Make sure you have the correct settings. Then in Manage existing connections tap and hold the modem connection and delete the entry. Reset the phone and then input the settings again manually. Don't let the phone run the auto connection setup.

Unfortunately what you have suggested is not working also :S.
Maybe I have something wrong with my settings. Even though I have done a lot of searching in order to find the correct settings for an Unlocked Diamond2, I have not been able to find the settings specifically for an Unlocked Diamond2 with WM6.1/6.5. The settings I found were for previous versions of WM or were for another HTC model.

What radio are you running?
I hate to say it but I don't think your going to get it to work. And I'm sorry because its all my fault! See for the past 4 years I have been a DM for AT&T and one day I was braging to our "smartphone support team" about how with my 8925+WMWifi+PayGo account with the 19.95 unlimited data package I could brodcast 3g wifi speeds through out my entire house with no need to worry about being charged overages for the 5GB soft limit (simply because no "real" info is needed to create a paygo account you can just say your name is Jon Doe and the give you one)
Two days later I got an email that the prepaid unlimited internet service had been disscontinued forever :-(..... And much more security was added to the system....
Your best bet to get internet working on the device is to put your sim card in an old moto razor (this way your razr IMEI doesn't flag you as a "smartphone" ) dial 611 and subscribe to the highest data package you can which is like 200MB or something.
Then you can put your sim card back in the TD2 and you should be good to go... for 200Mb's that is.... then your SOL...
and again sorry... you know what they say "loose lips sink ships"
or if you have a credit card or bank account switch to Pick-Your-Plan its a lot cheaper minute wise in the long run and you can have unlimited data just make sure to give them a bogus IMEI to some crappy razr you can find in every household....
I live overseas and about a month ago while visiting Florida I purchased a Tmobile Vibrant. I then went ahead and unlocked the phone myself. Upon returning to my country I started using my phone, everything had been running great up until today when I went and added internet to my phone plan. My phone simply refuses to connect to the internet and my provider says that all the settings are in the phone. Has t-mobile done something that would prevent me from connecting?
I really don't know what to do here. Anyone encounter problems like this before? Any solutions?
First go through these steps yourself then post back
1. Goto settings, wireless networks, access point names, make sure the apn is epc.tmobile.com
2. Call t-mobile and make sure you have the android data plan
3. Make sure you are in a good reception area
4. Make sure you have wifi off

Thanks for the replies. I did the APN thing already, in my country the APN must be set as "Internet", which I already put there... no luck.
Are there any other settings?
Ok great, it finally came on... they probably didn't activate it immediately.
Thanks for the suggestions.
It normally takes 2 to 24 hours to activate data. Glad youre running now

OK, so here's my story.
1.) Bought an Atrix from ebay and had it sent to me in Sweden
2.) Unlocked the Atrix with a code from cellunlock.net
Now my problem is that the 3g does not work . In the menu on the top of the phone I can see "Sweden 3g" in the left hand corner, to the right i can see "H+".
Supposedly the Atrix supports the same 3G frequencys as the ones being used in Sweden. But could it be that my SIM card is old or that my carrier in specific does not use the same frequency as the Atrix or is there some setting that I've missed?
What can I do??? Should I loose all hope and throw the Atrix in front of a train and move on?
I would be really grateful for any help I can get on this.
Kind regards//Joel

You probably do not have your APNs configured correctly. Read up on how to set those up manually on an Android phone with your carrier (just google it).
Note that with this phone, you should probably set your APN as "default, mms" under type.
Maybe this will help,
There are many apn settings, hopefully this will help
http://www.androidonhtc.com/wiki/Carrier_network_settings
When I had my captivate in Thailand, I was able to add a apn and was able to use the data network there, there are worldwide settings there.
I love you guys , it works perfectly now. I found the info on wikipedia for my carrier . Many thnxes for all you guys at xda!!!
wow u scarme man...lol after read your first post i'm scare because I bought today from at&a to portugal lol
It was a real easy fix , I just entered "settings - Wireless & networks - Mobile networks - Access point names", then I added a "New APN". The only info I had to insert was the "Name" (which is "Tele 2 Internet" for my carrier) and "APN" (which was "internet.tele2.se" for me). After that my 3g worked like a charm
data conxn, stable?
hi GandalfGraw.... good to see ur problem resolved... if u have used 3g for long periods, does it drop signal or lose data conxn... can u tell us if the conxn is steady with no disconnections....
also how is the battery holding up?!
thanks!
Gents,
Unfortunately in Japan Atrix is NOT adapted into most of carrier, Softbank / B-mobile and a part of data plans of NTT Docomo.
Now only data plan which is able to work, is only mopera plan (128Kbps) and standard mopera plan. repeatedly I have been trying to set correct APN on Atrix but the result was all failed.
The key thing is, all carrier can be worked as calling & SMS (text) but cannot be worked as data connection, including Internet connection and MMS. Actually when inserted NTT Domoco SIM card, we can see carrier name at upper left of screen (in taskbar), but other SIM card inserted, no carrier name at same area.
Someone has same problem in the world?
Thanks.

Hur funkar ditt WIFI? Många snackar ju om att det lägger ner när man låser upp den. Har du haft några problem? Testat den mot WEP och andra säkerhetsnät?

Disclaimer at the bottom of the post... *
Updated for ICS / Ice Cream Sandwich - tentative settings, please confirm if these work for you. (Look for additional red text.)
Thank you to everyone who took the time to figure all this stuff out! All I did was take some pretty screenshots to make it easier for beginners.
OK, I want to make this short, simple, and thorough. I don't think those things are mutually exclusive.
First, you need an activated Straight Talk SIM card that can be transferred to other phones. **
Put the SIM into your Note, turn it on, and open the system settings. Then tap the following...
Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names
The next screen should look something like the attached image #1: "APNs". Tap the Menu button and tap the New APN button. ***
You need to create two APNs. The name you enter in the Name field apparently doesn't matter. I just used "Internet" and "MMS" to avoid confusion. Copy the settings in the two attached image numbers 2: "APN_1" and image number 3: "APN_2". I drew a yellow check mark next to all the entries that I needed to change, I suppose some firmware versions/ROMs/phones may be different. When you're done entering in all the required addresses and stuff, tap the Menu button and tap the Save button.
APN 1...
Name: Internet
APN: att.mvno
The method for setting the "APN type" varies. Choose "internet" if you are given a list of choices, type "default" if you must type it in.
APN type: internet
APN type: default
Typing "default" seems to work on imilka's AOSP ICS v03 ROM for the internet at least, I haven't tried MMS yet. I suspect it will work with other ICS builds as well.
APN 2...
Name: MMS
APN: att.mvno
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port: 80
APN type: mms
When you save the second APN and you return to the APNs screen: select the radio button on the first APN (see attached image number 4: "Select_APN").
Tap the Back button to return to the Manage network settings screen. Put a check mark into the Use packet data option (see attached image number 5: "Check_use_packet_data"). Shortly after checking that box my phone connected to the network.
Yay you're done! This worked on my phone, I hope it works for y'all too.
* This is for informational purposes only. I am not an expert. Frankly, I don't even know what these settings really do. I simply copied them from other places on the internet (like this thread). There is an app, APN Backup & Restore, that can be used to (gasp!) backup and restore your APN settings, if you're nervous about doing this I suggest you backup your current APN settings before proceeding. It looks like there are other APN settings apps, it's possible one of them is better... I dunno. Personally, I did not use any APN-centric app, though I did have a backup of my whole phone made by Clockwork Mod ROM Manager
** I am no expert, but people on the internet say the only way to get a transferable SIM is to buy a Nokia E71 or a Nokia 6790 from Straight Talk. Check out straighttalk.com, they might be selling a refurbished E71 or 6790 (currently the refurbished 6790 is ~$50 with free overnight shipping). Personally, I left the SIM in my Nokia until the service was activated. I saw someone on the net say that you should switch the SIM back to the Straight Talk phone before calling tech support. I don't know if this is really something you have to do or not. Personally, I'm going to keep the phone around and use it whenever I have to call them.
*** If your screen shows some APNs already I'm afraid I don't know what you should do. I suggest you stop using my guide and see if you can get some expert advice elsewhere. I'm sorry about that!
Nice write-up! I am on ST as well.
A tip for getting a refurbished e71 to show up in the phone options is by starting the process with a zipcode nearish to where you live that is more densely populated, and then just changing the address when you are placing the order. Save some bucks that way.
Also, I believe that the E71 provided by ST is locked to the SIM included with it and will not work with other SIM cards. It is probably best to just hang onto the handset.
I have tried with Fast Dormancy (*#*#9900#*#*) both enabled and disabled and get the same speeds either way (2-3Mbps), so I just leave it disabled since it seems that it could drain the battery more if left enabled.
Thanks!
I forgot I'd seen Fast Dormancy mentioned on the other threads... I'm going to try it with it disabled for a while as well.
... later
Hmmm... disabling it seems to have started causing problems immediately. I connected to the Market and searched for a speed test app. It worked for a little bit, but by the time I had typed "speedtest" into the search bar my internet connection apparently got lost. I tried turning it back on and the internet connection seemed to return.
I am just curious, what sort of speed you getting with the Straight Talk.
I have the go-phone plan and getting these speed :
btw, i have the Fast Dormancy disabled and it work great!

I have the 500MB data package for $25 with monthly roll over. I guess any data plan can get my speed with go-phone.
Argh, I wrote out a response but then, being absent-minded, I decided to click a link and lost it. Here's a pic with five speed tests I did. The results are inconsistent, but it doesn't look like they're being throttled or anything to me.
Note the second one on the list. Extremes in both directions. It says 33 kbps upload speed, but I though it hung so I attempted to cancel the test early. I'm not sure if it actually finished, timed out, or if I successfully canceled it.
I'm also using my note with this setup. The only difference I did is that instead of making two separate APN types I just combined everything into one and set the APN type to Internet + MMS. Works fine for me.
Thank you thank you thank you for this.
Going to use my note on Straighttalk also.
Have been using my note on straight talk since day 1, have had a couple days of going 100+mbs of data in a day without any issues
Just like to let you guys know, don't think the grass is greener if you have a tiered data plan on ATT
I have a 2g data plan and out of 142 speed tests mostly at two different locations a mile apart I have had exactly 25 times where my speed was over 1mbps download and the majority of those were at 2am or later when there's nobody on the network. I even called them to ask if they had throttled me because my speeds were so low (I'm in the Melbourne area of Florida btw) and they said no....we just suck...ok they didn't say we just suck but after looking into it I was told yea well in the daytime there's a lot of people on the network which slows things down...Yea really? to below 1 mbps???
So if you're thinking you're missing out on something you're not...that is not until your area gets LTE theeeeeeen you'll be missing out on what is nothing short of phenomenal speed. In the meantime...save ur dough til it's in your area. I'll be going to ST or Go Phone until then myself. It's the principal of the thing too. Why should I pay top dollar for that kind of crappy speed when someone in the city is getting 49mbps dl speed on the same plan I got? While being restricted to 2Gb no less.

wow this is on straight talk? I live in downtown seattle and was testing their network and it was like 1.5 down....
If their 3g (hspa+) speeds are the same as straight talk, there isn't any reason to get into an expensive contract.
Can anyone else post their straight talk speeds?
Straight Talk lets you buy just the sim card now so you can save $50 and skip the phone purchase.
great! is there any issues with using strait talk on the note aside from not having 4g speeds? and when do they start throttling your bandwidth? i really would rather transfer my number from tmobile and get a st sim than have to deal with edge speeds on tmobile.
So this is faster than t-mobile right? If so I'm getting it cause I'm on t-mobile now and might as well if its faster and same price
From the Beast : Galaxy Note
sounds like it is faster than normal AT&T HSPA+. From what i've seen, normal AT&T hspa+ speeds are around 1 to 1.5megs..
So if there is no LTE in your city, why have AT&T at all? Buy a phone off contract and pay only $45 a month in cell phone bills..
H+ in my area is around 2-3 during the weekday, and 5-6 meg in the evening.
Is yours not setup correctly to get only 1-2?
I got 4 Down and 2 Up using the settings they sent me with my SIM Only Straight Talk Account.

how is straight talk data service?
i have a question about straight talk's data service. on the internet, it seems like straight talk imposes limitations as to how you can use the data?
are you able to use the internet normally like watching youtube videos etc?
can you tether?
are there things that you cannot do compared to what you can do with other 3g/4g providers?
i ask these questions because i just saw this thread a moment ago, and gave me some hopes to buying an internation version of galaxy note and not have to pay too much money getting a plan with att. (i don't want the att version because of the hardware difference)

I am having this same issue as of this morning, and I am on the Straighttalk AT&T network. I wonder if they just updated their APN network and our APN settings need to be updated too? If so, I'm not sure what settings to use.. using the straight talk website and selecting "Android 4.0" (the newest version listed), it shows the settings I'm currently using. Anyone else having/resolved this issue?

Borrow a (different carrier) SIM from a friend to see if it is a network issue. If the LTE works on that SIM, go to ST and have them provision another SIM for you (free). If the LTE still doesn't work, back your phone up, wipe it, flash a full image.

I called STW tech support, and they told me I had the wrong APN... I updated my APN settings (but really it was nothing other than changing the ID, so I don't think it had any real effect) and still had no data. After checking downdetector.com, it appears there is a widescale data outage with straight talk (or more specifically, AT&T). One of the commenters stated the following:
"I can confirm the issue is DNS. If you have the ability to changes the DNS on your phone, you can restore service. If you have Android + Root, I used DNS Override successfully. Just set DNS Servers to Google's"
I just used DNS Override ($2 app) to set my DNS servers to Google's and that resolved my issue. Hope that helps. If you don't want to spend $2, there are some free apps that also will change the DNS servers for you, and there are other methods detailed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ide-how-to-change-dns-android-device-t3273769
Update: earlier that day ot seemed to resolve itself while i was driving at work amd got to my destination which was about an hour away and once i looked at my phone ot no longer had the x and had full service amd working lte so idk maybe it was cell tower maintenence but don't know for sure but the issue hasn't happened again tho but thanks for everyone for the help and suggestion!
