Rom porting - Android Software Development

Hi! I would like to learn something about rom porting. Anyone has any diagram or something like this with files which are responsible for each hardware like wifi, gsm, rotate sensor etc?
And anyone know how to turn off strict mode indicator in Dev Tools/Development settings/ without using Dev Tools app?

how to stop my pda from switching off when running specific programs

When I run my HTC diamond with Tomtom, it does not switch off after a while, like it does (because the setting is set like that) when any other program is running.
I like this feature, so I would like to know how to add it to other software, like oziexplorer: when I am recording tracks, I like my diamond to stay on, while it should switch off otherwise.
any tips?
thanks

programs for touch pro 2

i was just curious as to whether certain programs that im using for my touch pro 1 will work with the touch pro 2.
htorch, mortscript(used for random ringtones),s2u2,.net configuration tool, barcorama, cab xpress, clear temp, diamond tf3d configuration tool, diamond tv,diamond tweak (and if this will not work will sum1 please recommend a similar program designed for the vzw tp2),go news touch, microsoft live search, pandora (the version i have right now doesnt display properly so if theres a more appropriate one please recommend),personalizer(changes carrier name),ppcgeeks mobile(gotta have this),and the mobile youtube app. also, if anyone knows of any other useful apps that will definitely work for the touch pro 2 id love to give them a try...
the only other question i have regards the gps in the vzw tp2...my question is, is i download google maps (or anything that uses gps) will it automatically work or is the sumthing like the "bored" fix that ill have to do...id love to be able to use gps but i tried bored's fix on my touch pro 1 and couldnt get it to work...
any other recommendations pertaining to the tp2 would be greatly appreciated

Like mad_tunes said, just try the apps.
Although, you really should use common sense when dealing with apps that are device-specific. It doesn't make sense to install apps that tweak parts of the device that aren't there...

need help coding app

Ok so I've never coded in java before its all new to me and i am trying to make an app that would do the same as this (check it out here) old Motorola razr mod, the led's and screens would flash in a pattern when music was played or any vibration into the microphone. I thought this idea could make a cool app for android, so i have begun coding it, and i have pretty much got the interface setup, but when it comes to making the slider i added actually do anything i have no idea and i have no idea how to make buttons actually preform an action, also i have no idea how to go about controlling hardware on the phone like the microphone and various lights to flash. Is there any way anyone can help or give some tips i appreciate any input. Thus far my layout consist of a spinner to chose the different patterns for the lights to flash, then the start button, then a slider to choose how sensitive the microphone is to incoming vibrations. They do nothing yet cause i am not quite sure where to go from here. If you feel you can contribute any knowledge my way i will be grateful, the only coding i have done is minor html stuff although not much different than the xml code involved i have no idea what to do for the java part. Please Help.
Thank you much!
You'll need to use the required APIs detailed here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/AudioRecord.html , I'm not sure you can actually control the sensitivity in Android as I haven't written any apps using the hardware as you want to. And this should help you out with the the backlight: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/PowerManager.html
So basically what you would need to do is set up an intent reciever that is listening to the mic, and when theres any input activate the brightness of the display.
For more detailed help I'd have to actually start coding to be of more help. Hope this helps.

Akshay

[Q] Locking Devices Down for customization?

Just realized I put this in the wrong spot. Can someone please move this to the right forum category? Thank you!
I hope this is the right spot for this. I've search and so far not found the answer I am hoping to find.
I have a series of GPS devices (Trimble) with Windows Mobile 6.1 on them that I'm setting up for our field crews. I'm in the process of setting them up to be universal in the settings so anyone can grab and use any device without trying to figure out where everything is again.
Is there a way that I can lock down these devices where the field guys can't go back behind me, once I've made them universal, and change everything around? Or do you all have any suggestions on things that may help me with this? I'm thinking along the lines from wallpapers and customizations and even down to changing owner information. I'd just like to keep these similar and not let them get out of control and messy, if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance for any help!

gps

what is the best way for a program to call on the gps? i have a program that uses gps to track the vehicle the device is in, but the gps doesnt seem to be picked up by the program on my i9000 it was designed for the htc desire but i would imagine android handles most of the comms to the hardware and passes it to the programs, am i correct here? if im wrong and the hardware is being addressed directly would that explain my problem? also would there be any way to solve the issue? (i have decompiled the apk)
this is a program not written by me so uploading code from it is not really an option (unless its direct to the person helping)
thanks, melli
