CM7 + NC Magazines? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This a basic question, but its the only real thing that always makes me pause on flopping my nook to custom roms.
Has anyone figured out a way to port the built in reader so magazine subscriptions can still be read?
Thanks~

There was a project to do this, but it appears to have been abandoned for a couple of months now.
Shame, because I really like my subscription to The Economist. It's one of the things keeping me on rooted stock.

Screen latency

Hi, i dont know if you guys notice it already, but the evo has a latency on the screen response.
For exp., if you play a instrument on it like drum or piano, the sound will delay after we touch the screen, so it makes it impossible to play music on it.
I would like to know if is there any way we can set the screen response latency. My evo is V2 with froyo2.2 non rooted.
Thanks.
In compare to the iphone, the iphone has almost 0 lantency.
Have you tried a different kernal? I went from the stock HTC kernal to Netarchy's kernal and everything was greatly improved when it came to screen response (and many other things as well).
Edit: Just noticed that you weren't rooted. I would suggest rooting your phone and THEN flashing a different kernal. The trouble of the rooting process is well worth it in the end.
If you root and flash a kernel with a fps fix such as netarchy you can ditch the input lag. The fix for 60 fps essentially doubles the refresh rate of the screen giving you better touch response and at the same time allows the evo to display more frames per second.

Wouldn't that mean you can't charge your phone anymore? I'd say you have about 8 hours to get rooted, find your rom of choice, pick a kernal, and a theme if you're really adventurous.
After that, it's going to look like a black rectangle.
You should be able to accomplish it using these two apps from the market.
adbWireless (for adb) and WebSharing or AwesomeDrop (for transferring files onto your SDcard wirelessly)

Wouldnt it be smarter to bring your evo into sprint prior to rooting and get that usb port fixed? They might do it under warranty!

Sprint will not fix it.
The only way to fix it is getting a new board, cause my circuit lines are striped.

It is possible, and I have successfully done it. It is not very useful though. But we are not always interested in usefulness, now are we?
Anyway, google "Desire HD Linux" and I believe it is one of the first, if not the first, links. Similar method geared toward the Desire HD, which is almost identical to our device internally. It works.
Question, but isn't that just VNC?

i'm pretty sure vnc just lets you view your computer at home, or view your screen when you're away.
Do you even know why you would want Ubuntu? Is it for the GUI, our for a better bash shell?
If you look around (I accidentally found this only a week ago) you can find Debian images for the android that they have had out since the G1. And they work on the MT4G.

now the real shocker would be if we could put windows mobile on our mt4g or dual boot either 2 android roms or windows mobile and android.

Yes, it uses VNC. It is used since there are no video drivers available for Linux on this platform, which is difficult due to the lack of code/documentation from Qualcomm. Ubuntu is actually running on the phone's hardware through a chroot shell, and VNC connects to the local host via a socket connection to provide the display. Just a way for the display to be displayed, if you will.

Anyone with the Touchpad here?

I'm one of the lucky ones who scored a Touchpad last weekend. That is a great machine.
I am trying to use wifi tether from my epic 4g to the touchpad but the touchpad does not see the connection. (my ipod touch and PC see it). Anyone knows what's the problem? I heard it might something to do with some ad hoc stuff...
Use the wifi tether that says "with more infrastructure" its somewhere in the epic forums

Yes use that version of wifi tether. I had mine running last night from my EVO 3d. I just chose epic 4g under settings and for the device profile. Seemed to work fine. Touchpad is nice, I am just itching to put some version of Android on it. Even with a media player app that says it supports avi and other files, I can't seem to get videos other than mp4 format to play on it.

I have the preware and some of the tweaks. I also downloaded touchplayer and tried to play avi movie on it and it was all distorted and the formatting was all messed up. Like it was playing in three separate boxes at the same time. Nothing I tried worked.

Opps I replied in the wrong thread lol. Well I am hoping HP has some touchpads soon. Would love to put Android on it but I am sure it will look kind of weird in a 4x3 screen.
I am also one of the lucky ones who scored a 32GB touchpad on the firesale. What I would really like to see is the SMS/call integration with the touchpad. Anyone know what kinds of protocols the pre3 and touchpad use for SMS/call integration? I am guessing that it can all be done through bluetooth? I have done ROM and theming stuff, and have mild experience with C++, but this kind of project is a bit out of my league.
Well, the CM7 team has made a lot of progress getting it onto the TouchPad already. Here's a video from android police showing it booting into CM7. It's super quick too!
Lots of quirks to work through still. The guy said that the touchscreen input isn't working yet.
Ohhh mannnnn

As for those still looking, HP is supposed to have more coming in sometime this week. Apparently there will be a limit of 1 per customer so they shouldn't sell out instantly like last time, but if you aren't on the page within an hour or two of it going live they will probably be gone.

Kindle Fire being used LIVE during a DJ set :D

Just wanted to share what I do with my Kindle Fire thanks to you guys
What I've done to it:
-Installed TWRP
-Installed CyanogenMod (whatever the latest is)
-Downloaded, then extracted and edited TouchOSC for my custom midi mapping (Only worked for 1.2, 1.3 is having some errors with adding custom layouts)
-Ran the data from TouchOSC through Osculator then through Midi Patch Bay so I can send some midi data to my VJing friend
-Mapped it in Traktor Pro 2!

Hahaha, well I'm glad I was 110% prepared! I just really wanted to show what I use my kindle fire for, unlike some others that use it for reading and netflix. I really think I'm pushing the limit of DJing with a 200$ device instead of running the same app on a 500$ iPad.
Only thing is I wish I had more than 2 multitouch points!
You did good. I'm glad to see the Fire being used for something other than reading and surfing the web. Cool music by the way.
I like it!
Just one question, how did you edit TouchOSC for custom layouts?!
Very nice, man! You've got a nice bit of kit there supporting that fire, too . LPD8 and what looks like an MPD in the background. Much love for the Hercules, too. Touch OSC on my HTC Inspire is what got me through with my Launchpad till I could get a hold of a nanoKontrol2. Good to see other guys putting it to good use. Best of luck to you guys!

Do you know of a Windows program that will do the same conversion? I do a lot of solo bass work and would love to be able to control Ableton or Reason with the Kindle. I am not sure how to sync up the MIDI output, it assigns to whatever it damn well pleases at this point and I can't find where to edit the MIDI channel send/recieves.

ok...I'm officially bored. What tricks can I teach my N7?

So far I basically use this thing as a web browser, twitter reader and forum crawler.
Of course I rooted, themed, installed new kernels, bricked it, brought it back to life, and now I'm back to stock rooted.
So what else can this thing do? I bought a USB dongle thinger but I don't like watching movies on the small screen (I get headaches easy). Give me some ideas?

Have you tried alternate ROMs? If not, I'd recommend Paranoid Android. It's smooth, fast, stable, and it allows you to choose between phone, phablet, and tablet mode for every app.

If PA isn't your style, try Slimbean or Cyanogenmod 10.
There are a lot of ROMs out there to mess around with.

How about getting tablet mode by installing ROM Toolbox Lite and changing the DPI from 213dpi to 160dpi?

Games, news, geocaching (tether it to your phone via bluetooth), use it as a GPS on your bike/car if you have one (I use my phone for now, and you can cache the maps before hand too, so no data connection needed), control your DSLR camera if you have one, setup an andruino system/project and use the N7 as a remote, use it as universal remote in your home (friend is doing that w his Galaxy Tab 2 7"), etc.
