Problems w/ gTALK APP FC'ing? <UPDATED> - EVO Shift 4G General

I was having problems w/ google talk force closing on me all the time. Didn't matter which build (CM7.0.2.1 or 7.0.3.1). Downloaded 20110503 GAPPS to fix this issue. It includes the latest version of google talk (video chat). This is the easiest and fastest way (to me at least) to fix the FC issue.
BTW THIS WAS USED FOR CM7.0.3.1 STABLE ONLY. I AM NOT SURE IF IT WILL WORK WITH THE OTHER STABLES, NIGHTLIES, AOSP, EVERVOLV. DEFINITELY NO SENSE!
wipe cache/dalvik, then flash...
*sorry, I will post gapps later on this evening or you can search here on XDA forum under android apps and games...
:EDIT: The .ZIP file was too large to upload, I was exceeding the limit. Instead, I posted the URL located below. Look for "gapps-gb-20110503-signed.zip"
Also, here is the website were I got it. Check it out...

[ROM] TouchPad UNOFFICIAL CM9 Nightly Builds [DISCONTINUED]

6/27/12: Unofficial nightlies are discontinued: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27955579#post27955579
This is a centralized thread to discuss any issues pertaining to my unofficial nightly cm9 builds. As Dalingrin stated, he doesn't plan to release many more Alphas for now unless there's a major change to test so this will be the best way to get the latest CM9 additions (other than building yourself!).
You should only need to wipe caches coming from a previous cm9 build. Remember, these are not tested builds, simply latest source, so there's a chance of "broken" builds as new features are merged in. Always keep a recent backup and/or be willing to do a full wipe. If you're coming from CM7 you should wipe /data if installing in CWM or use ACMEinstaller2 - see the original CM9 Alpha thread.
These builds are mostly a straight sync from source each night, no other extra modifications have been made (other than fixes to ensure is builds). You can find the latest merges into CM9 here: http://tinyw.in/cm9tpmerged (thanks jcsullins for the custom search). The build is sync'd at approx 4am EST and will be ready to download at approx 4.15am EST.
Downloads
There are multiple ways to get the nightlies:
1) Simply browse and find the latest build directly on our host: http://techerrata.co...angs/tenderloin
2) For live announcement of a new nightly arriving on the server follow our Tenderloin twitter account: https://twitter.com/...!/cm_tenderloin - PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN AUTOMATED TWEET BOT NOT A LIVE PERSON (i.e. do not tweet @CM_Tenderloin expecting a reply)
3) *NEW* The nightlies also support OTA update notifications using the Goo Manager app, details here: http://tinyw.in/feSQ
Latest gapps are here:http://goo-inside.me/gapps
LCD Density fixes: These were taken from dalingrin's Alpha2 thread and are just updated with a new build.prop.
Change to 120dpi: http://tinyw.in/Ja5P
Revert to 160dpi: http://tinyw.in/VUht
Updates:
For updates/announcement on the builds follow me on twitter, or check back here.
4/2/12: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24346202#post24346202
3/27/12: TouchPad now has official nightlies! See my post here about the future of my builds: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24120253&postcount=219
3/11/12: Due to some merges on 3/9 you may need to reflash gapps when going from a nightly prior to 3/9 to later than 3/9.
2/28/12: HW video decoding (HD youtube and netfix) are now incorporated (still unmerged in mainline CM code). Thanks dalingrin and jcsullins for getting this together. This means the nightlies currently include everything in Alpha2 and whatever else merged since.
Credit and Thanks
Of course major thanks to Dalingrin, jcsullins, fattire, green and the rest of the CM touchpad team for making these builds possible. Thanks to my fellow winners in TeamWin and a special shout out to kevank for hosting and onicrom for build support
Nice to see you here eyeballer!
Thanks eyeballer and teamwin for all your hard work on the touchpad.
So this is all upstream stuff correct? Won't fix anything from 0.6 as related to hardware? Doesn't include the touchscreen drivers from the rootzwiki thread either?

Just straight CM source, until the updated touchscreen driver is merged you'll need to reflash that after updating the nightly.

Dees_Troy's touchscreen driver fixes will be included from now, I cherry-picked them into the builds. Also from tonight's build reboot should work thanks to a patch from jcsullins.
hmm, I've done two nightly updates so far without any issues for a couple of days. The latest (0219) causes sods. will keep an eye on it. so far I've had 5 sods whenever screen goes to sleep or I put to sleep.
edit1: ok, after a little more than 5 sods it seems to have settled. guess there were some kernel changes that needed to "work in" first.
I updated to nightlies 0219 and lost my calendar data and calendar sync settings.
I had to reinstall gapps + gapps fix to get it working again.
Is this normal?

no, that is not normal. Typically this happens when gaps are mixed and there is a conflict. possible that one of the apps was corrupted? wild guess.

Any idea on how to fix it? I just flashed the second nightly update and had to put gapps and the gapps fix on it afterward.
This is using gapps 4.0.3 v11.

Are you clearing cache and dalvic cache before flashing the nightly? You don't need to clear data/factory reset.

unfortunately my experience with the same problem was when I used a wrong gapps. It hosed my calendar and email sync. I was able to recover the email sync, but never the calendar (it wouldn't even sync the google cal, let alone my hotmail cal). No matter what I did with the existing rom, no dice in fixing it using the correct gapps or fixes. I then decided to start from scratch, which really isn't that bad. I wiped data to factory and installed a fresh rom, gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11 and all sync problems vanished. I recovered a few apps with Titanium backup.
Backup valuable apps via titanium backup, reboot into cwm, make a backup of your current rom (just in case you decide to go back), wipe cache, dalvik and wipe data to factory, reboot into cwm and install a fresh nightly rom, then gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11. once back in CM you can recover your apps via titanium backup. Just don't recover any google apps or system apps.
cheers
Usually when tapping the notification area, you see your wifi router name and your battery icon and percent. On the nightly currently out, the percentage is broken as it isn't showing. Only the icon is showing

[Q] Google Apps Not Installed After Flashing AOKP?

So I flashed AOKP and the Gapps package but when I started up my phone my Google apps aren't installed. Everything else seemed to work fine. Is there anything else I can try or do I have to wipe everything then reflash? What could have gone wrong?
I got the files from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025939
you have to flash gapps.you probably got the wrong ones
1. wipe
2. flash aokp
3. flash gapps

I got them from the official thread, don't know why they'd be wrong. Do you have to reboot after flashing AOKP before Gapps? I guess ill probably end up just redoing it if there's no other ideas.

no. flash gapps after flashing rom.
Yeah you probably flashed gapps before the rom.
I tried it again and same thing. Play Store is there but no Chrome, maps, People, navigation etc. Is installing this package any different than just manually downloading the apps from the play store? I really don't know what's going on.
I would try re-downloading the gapps package.

This, they really need to stop calling it a gapps pack when it is really just the play store with which you can then download gmail/chrome/maps/books/etc.
Ok, didn't realize those weren't supposed to be in there. Thanks guys

It is a gapps package. When they first gave the package a name, chrome, maps etc weren't on the android market. Eventually it became a a available on the market and to avoid confusion it wasn't renamed.
Those apps were removed because it was more convenient to manually get them from the store as when a new update is pushed. Gapps wouldn't have to be updated

I think the package manager will always pick the newest package provided two have the same signing. An update will normally not overwrite locally installed app updates, even if older. I think.
Locally installed apps are in /data/app. Flashing a gapps package puts apps in /system/app.
Like others have said there is no reason to include all the crap in the package that you can download yourself in the market. It has been this way for quite some time now.

Gapps only came out because google was pissy about CM including google apps in their releases, it was called gapps because it actually included google apps (maps/gmail/store/etc.) that weren't available on non google approved devices. Since now gapps just has the play store (at least from what I can tell) they should just call it gplay or something so people don't expect gapps on their freshly flashed devices.

Why are you giving me history when I already know this? You're just quoting me just to few quote me. Hence my signature says G1.
Renaming gapps to gplay makes no sense. They can call it whatever they like, it's just a name and their fault for not reading.

You threw chrome into the mix when discussing gapps creation, that is a pretty clear sign you don't know the history since chrome wasn't around at the time. Your broken english doesn't help either, "Hence my signature says G1".
It is not just the play store. It is all Google apps that are not available separately on the play store and stuff that is not open source. So when you build aosp it is not included.
It is very simple and was already explained.
You can pull your current play store.apk and toss it in your roms .zip /system/app prior to flashing it. Then don't flash the gapps package since oh its just the play store.

During the time of gapps creation, Chrome for Android didn't exist, so those apps were included in the original packaging of the gapps. So no, I didn't bring it into topic. I was saying that those google apps (such as Maps, Chrome [now its available], etc) weren't on the Android Market. So because they weren't on the Market, it had to be included in the gapps flashable zip, but now that they're included, it isnt necessary to include them in the zip as you can get them from the play store.
I don't care, I'm not writing a essay where I'm graded on my english. This is a forum, I shouldn't have to proof read what I said if I got the point across. Don't reply back to me just for the heck of it, oh man you insulted me over the internet over my grammar and english. Does that mean you're going to insult everybody else who's primary language isn't English? Most engineers aren't the greatest when it comes to english, so dont insult them either

I'm guessing by your question in the other thread that you haven't increased your partition size yet so the answer is yes although you should change the name so that it begins " update- "
You can just run acmeinstaller3 with nothing and it will resize your partition.
I trust you are running the latest recovery of either CMW or TWRP if so you can use either to flash after resizing.
The Android AOSP keyboard keeps crashing.
This is from a fresh install and full wipe. Anyone else having this issue?

Anyone that had lost data can you give me some information. Which acmeinstaller version did you use? Are you still on the smaller partition or did you upgrade? Im still on the i believe it's 400mb system part and haven't upgraded to the larger partition and still yet to loose data. It also could be the way kitkat mounts the partition now. After the inital loose of data did you experience it again? I'm trying to boil this down and having issues pinpoint it as i have yet to loose anything. The more information I can gather the quicker i can fix this issue. Thanks all for testing and helping me out getting this great device updated to the latest OS.

Is everyone just using the 4.3 gapps or is there a 4.4 gapps?

Hey Flintman,
I only lost the data just once so far, if you want I could test out a reinstall. I installed Kitkat by wiping system data and cache and flashing the Rom and gapps through recovery. I already had a 600MB partition but was monitoring the free space left. I should also note that I used CWM to advance restore my data partition from my Evervolv 4.3.1 backup. This seems to be working fine.
Because I use my tablet to test mods and games I had a lot of extra folders that disappeared. These were all added by me like, Dos Games folders about a dozen, image files, Beta apks and the Rom and gapps, that were placed in the internal memory ect. All these files vanished, however files I added that were already in system folders stayed, like music, downloads and shows. It seems to just delete things that the user added into non system or app related folders.
Thanks for letting us take this fun test drive, I was all backed up before I started

1. Go into the Device manager. You will see "MTP USB Device" under portable devices.
2. Right Click it and select update driver software
3. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
4. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
5. Select USB Mass Storage Device then click next.

6.To transfer files to PC, turn on USB mass Storage from the USB connection notification on the Android device.
Note(Important): (This might be fixed now) Backup and transfer all your SDcard files to PC. This is a testing build and could wipe files from your SDcard data.
[Note(Important): I would recommend increasing the size of your System Partition for this build. After my install I had 398/400MB free, so Flash the 512MB zip below or use Tailor to adjust the size.
Note(Important): This is an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) rom not a CyanogenMod (CM) rom. Dirty flashing an AOSP rom over a CM rom can causes errors and rebooting issues. Always do a clean install when moving from CM to AOSP and vise versa.
Flash through recovery to change the partition size to 512MB(Gradular&codycoyote)
Flintmans Posts about the new Pre-Beta Build here:
I did a clean install with the standard CWM recovery and had no loss of data or files that i can find. I also restored my apps with TiBU and everything came back good.
The Quadrant score came in a lot lower than the first test build, 1500 (first test build was 2350). The CPU portion is what suffered the most, the other portions seemed normal. It doesn't seem slower than normal though.
I haven't found any problems with any apps.
Great job, thanks!

Sweet, glad to see this. I think we should wait for Android 4.4.1. Which the UI will be fixed for the Nexus 10.

Hey Flintman,
Would you clear up some confusion about this build. I've seen a post over in the Evervolv 4.3 thread and also over in Rootzwiki. Is this build of 4.4 a traditional build like your 4.3 build or a data-media build that is going to require the data-media version of CWM and resizing partitions like the Milaq 4.3? Thanks

I use the normal twrp recovery. This ROM doesn't require the data-media version of cwm. I hope that answers your question.

I want to go back to CM10.1 but everytime I flash it back bootloader defaults to evervolv despite having an option for Cyanogenmod but the bootloader fails when I select cm10.1 after flashing... I only wanted to test it out a little too unstable for a daily driver but now it seems like I am stuck on this rom
Very cool looking forward to flashing this as soon as some of the major bugs are worked out

Hi,
I experienced loss of data, much like as reported another member here, I only lost the folders that were added by me, it also removed the TWRP back up folder, however folders that are the usual like Music, Download remained as they were, however, the gallery app refused to load any images.
In between the reboots, I connected the TouchPad to PC and noticed something peculiar, after the very first boot, it showed about 9GB free, the same was on TWRP too, even though my folders were all gone, and after the next reboot on being connected to PC it showed me about 17GB free.
My install method was using TWRP, system wipe and flashing the zips,
I have extended the system and data partitions using the Tailor method to 512mb and 2.5gb respectively.
For now, I am back on 4.3 but would like to be able to help test out if there are any fixes that you are trying. Once again, thanks for the all the good work on these ROMs :good:
You know I think TWRP is the cause if data loss just reading peoples experiences in this thread. CWM FTW!

[GAPPS][4.4.x] Unofficial GApps [12-Dec-2013]

Put together using PA GApps's structure and updated files from different ROMs, together with factory images.. The install script will show the it'll install pa_gapps-full-4.4-20131126-signed.zip, but, in reality, it will install the new files compatible with 4.4.x The backup script works, but I highly recommend installing GApps at each ROM update, since, sometimes, it just doesn't work very well. I always flash GApps when updating, and I never have issues this way.
You can either wait for the OP of PA GApps to update the package, or use this.
I am not responsible for any damage to the device. Do a backup before, just in case! A boot loop is the worst case scenario that can happen. Didn't happen on my end, and I hope it won't happen to you guys, either.
Enjoy!
UPDATE 12-Dec-2013
Pack updated with 4.4.2 files.
NOT compatible with ART (didn't test, though - might as well work, since the base structure and files from PA's GApps and BaNkS' GApps are ART-compatible; in case you want to test out, do a nandroid first!)
PhotoSphere installs only on hammerhead, manta, mako, razor; no Google Dialer
Link #1
PhotoSphere and GDialer for all devices (Might cause errors, two dialers & two cameras, beware! It's a forced method, by including both the dialer and camera in /system/app and /system/priv-app)
Link #1
GApps mini modular package
Link #1
Credits go to BaNkS for letting me use files from his GApps.
Credits go to hanschke for testing out.
Credits go to TKruzze for the structure of GApps.
Looks like when this was inside PA thread, there were a lot of questions, but in separate thread, everthing is clear, and no problems or questions reported so far

From what I know, not even the official PA Gapps works well with CM. By the way, what kernel are you using? Do you know about the CAF business on CM?

I'm on CM and haven't had one force close. I'm also not using ART.
Only problem is when I flash a nightly the photosphere camera and the google dialer are gone. Guess I'm gonna have to flash gapps every time like the old days (instead of crying like a baby about it)

I don't think it's true... I had no problems running the PA GAPPS on CM 11 nightlies, including a working photosphere camera.
Different kernels on CM 11 are trickier, because of the CAF issues you mentioned, but as far as I know the GAPPS work just fine.
I flashed these gapps on slimkat and everything is running great.
Thanks.

You can flash any version, depending on your needs. I go for the first version (PhotoSphere installs only on hammerhead, manta, mako, razor; no Google Dialer), though. I don't need the Google Dialer, but I do need PhotoSphere, and, on my Nexus 5, it will install automatically.

Great to hear it's running great! Well, I always flash GApps when I install a new nightly on Omni. It's just another few taps.

Oh, I might have read wrong that PA GApps doesn't work on CM11 nightlies. Good to hear they actually do work.
My phone doesn't support photosphere because lacks of hardware. Which gapps that's doesn't have photosphere that support my device? Thanks

PhotoSphere installs only on hammerhead, manta, mako, razor; no Google Dialer. This will only install PhotoSphere camera on hammerhead, manta, mako, razor, and it won't include Google Dialer.
Also, for all of you, you are all welcome.

Im using the CM11 LG G2 D802 Nightly, with stock kernel
Woks fine with omniRom 4.4.1 release nightly (homemade), here.
I'm impatient and pagapps 11/26 was NOT playing well with others causing force closes, rail especially with ART.
I wiped system, cache and dalvik (kept data), flashed omni v2 of yr apps (i have m7ul) and supersu, flashed omni and it stopped my apps fc's (yay!) only thing is it gave me a second camera and gallery (i thought gallery is gone on 4.4.1) but I just fixed my nova homescreen and so far so good.
I'll report any issues should arise. Thank you, for the quick fix, it.can.make testing a pain, and also for understanding that flashaholism is a real-life disease (thats not a noob asking for an ETA, it's his addiction talking ):silly:
Are you going to update your gapps to 4.4.2? (if there are any changes)
