From froyo to gingerbread? - Droid X General

I have had my new DX a little over a month now and have rooted with liberty rom. Was wondering if I should update to gingerbread, and if so, does it go on top of liberty of so I need to flash back to my factory froyo settings? I'm still new and enjoying learning all this nerdy stuff.

If you still want to run a liberty rom on gingerbread, you can download the donate version of liberty toolbox, and if you look under nightlies in the rom section, they have it set up such that all you have to do is click the icon, and liberty takes care of the rest. quite handy... you dont even have to boot into recovery and install, liberty takes care of it all

Thanks for the advice.

That was so very easy. I'm now running liberty gb v 0.5. Seems pretty stable so far. Only issues I'm having is battery life and had to take the back way to enter input method for SwiftKey keyboard.

Multitouch keyboard for rubix 1.9.7

I've asked this once before but the answer I got seems not to be working this time. Im using rubix 1.9.7 and I would like the multitouch keyboard but can't seem to get it. I asked this when I had a defferent rom can't remember what it was but I was told to type in "keyboard -wmt " to get it and it worked but not working now. Please help.

Use Liberty toolbox? (app management -> Install add-ons?)
The app wont work unless I have the liberty rom I just tried to open it and it says it will not work unless I have liberty.

OK I loaded liberty toolbox from titatuim and loaded up the blur keyboard and it rebooted my phone and still did not put the blur keyboard on my phone.

recovery

How do I reboot into recovery mode? I know with the vibrant They have Rom Manager that install a custom recovery to install custom roms. is it one for the x? and which is most likely the best ROM? I've seen a lot of talk about apex and liberty. i found apex v1.4.1, don't know if that's the latest and Liberty 1.0.1.
Thanks in advance
First of all you should get Droid x bootstrap recovery app and make a nand backup if your thinking about custom roms.I don't know much about custom roms cause I don't use them but liberty 1.5 is the latest.

Liberty and apex are completely different roms in terms of apex keeping more of the blur aspects, i personally use apex 1.4 and i've used liberty 1.0, i actually missed some blur stuff that liberty didn't have and the battery life i got from liberty was actually really bad compared to even the stock rom.... i think you should try any roms you want so you can decide for yourself....

Definitely get bootstrap as stated above... I'm currently running Liberty 1.5, loving it, and I'm planning on sticking with it until Cyanogen is released for the X; however, as also stated above, you should try different ROMs because they all have their own pros and cons. Check out the Dev forums for details on each.

Need some help from the Droid people

I have friend that has a Droid X and she wants me to root it for her to help her with her battery life. I have a rooted HTC Inspire and it's crazy how much my battery has improved w/ rooting, custom ROMs, and using SetCPU. After looking around in your forums, I've noticed that even though they're both Android phones they are completely different in the wrold of how to root. I have a few questions and hope you can help me out.
1. What is easiest way to root? I see somethings about z4root, but not sure since it's no longer in the market. I have noticed that this phone is about 1,000 times easier to root than my Inspire was.
2. I see that you guys have no luck w/ ROM Manager. Why and what should I be using for the Droid. The guys in HTC and Inspire forums swear by ROM Manager and I've had nothing but luck with it.
3. Since there are dedicated webpages to the Droids, can I find more ROMs there as it seems there aren't as many choices here for the Droid X as there are in the Inspire forum.
Thank you for the help.
Is she running on Gingerbread? If so, there is currently no root method except to SBF to Froyo, root that with a tool such as z4root, then download and install a pre-rooted version of gingerbread available online.

The X is a relatively simple phone to work with as far as root is concerned. Like the previous poster said, if she has taken the latest update, you'll have a few extra steps, but its still pretty easy. As far as Rom Manager goes, it works great for the X, but you have to use the Droid X bootstrapper in order to use it successfully. The biggest factor for the X is that the boot loader is locked, so while we can run custom roms, we don't have the same freedom as other phones. Everything you need to know about rooting is pretty easy to find in these forums, so have fun.

I sbf back to froyo using rsdlite. Then I rooted using z4root, droid 2 bootstrapper, and flashed Liberty 2.0.1, which is a froyo build rom. Liberty is now in the early builds of a GB based version, but I hear it's buggy right now. 2.0.1 runs like a dream! It's about 20 times faster than my stock DX has EVER been, and I haven't had a reboot yet. I kept my launcher, Open Home 6 so I could keep the home screen settings like I had them, and I'm still using Widget Locker to keep my lock screen custom..
thx for the info. think i will check it out

One way would be to sbf to froyo and then upgrade via ota. I don't know if there is a gingerbread sbf out there. Search the forum for how to sbf and google for the file.

Flashing ROMs is done in Droid 2 Bootstrap.

BTW you need both rom manager and rom toolbox from the market to get the builds for the GB cm7, right now rev is the only one getting the nightlies out to download, rom manager doesn't support them yet, and don't download it from rom manager because it will brick your phone and you will have to load from sbf all over.
