Well I guess this is what I get for trying to force a Xperia Play Launcher update?
I unlocked and rooted my AT&T xperia play phone and fell into a ditch on this error that I can't overcome.
I've been trying to update my xperia play launcher app however whenever I try to update it, I would get a signing error. After reading threads about signing errors the only way I found that a way others resolving this issue would be to delete the app and reinstall it.
I couldn't find the application in the application settings and only found it in the system area under root explorer. I deleted it using system uninstaller app but I think the program left some bits of it out somewhere because now when I try to install the app, the program will still result in a error and Android Market will give me a -8 unknown error window.
Right now my XPeria play still works normal I guess...but now when I flip the gamepad out, it won't bring up the launcher anymore. At first I found it annoying anyways when I play mostly emu games...but for some odd reason I actually want this feature back.
Any help on this would be appreciated. I tried a system reset and repair but the funny thing is that it won't work because I believe Sony is detecting this is a test unit or because I'm rooted as phone only updates etc. fail through the PC companion.

NO NO NO NO NO Never delete manufacturer apps from /system/app/ you cannot install them as normal apps, and even if you could, sony has designed there framework to only read the main app from /system/ to stop people porting elemnts of there UI to other devices, your best bet is to find someone with the same firmware as you, ask them for a copy of the .apk from /system/app/ and use adb to push it back
Use root uninstaller from market, if you're rooted.

Anyone know the exact name of the apk file? The uninstaller I used I just went by the icon itself and hit uninstall.
Before I was even rooted, I couldn't apply system updates through the PC Companion App anyways. The only programs that could be updated or installed were programs that install onto windows. I think Sony is blocking me from installing updates regardless I dunno... it's weird. It is a buggy test unit anyways... lots of the AT&T apps crash with the sony home launcher.

Sorry I should've been more clear, however originally this was the reason why I tried to delete the app in the first place because of the error that came up while trying to update.
When I try to update the app from the launcher and or from the market place I would get that signing error. I can't even update my phone through the PC Companion as well. I appreciate the apk and i'm I'm going to try it to give you an update. I thought I got got the wrong apk file from the R800i version dump from this site but I already came up with this error in ADB.
"Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE"
Going to download and test ur version in a sec. THANKS!
Well no luck. I think the only way for me to fix this is to find out whats still leftover from the program and then do a fresh install. I came up with the same error using ADB. PC Companion update/repair still doesn't work for whatever odd reason

I have an rooted x10a(r23) and Iv been installing apk files by transferring them to my sd card.
Iv been using Astor to install them. Also i have non market apps checked in my settings.
Today i tried to install an apk file using Astro, but it wouldn't let me. it just goes back to an blank screen and then back to the install screen.
Does any one know how to fix this?
Happened to me after I rooted my phone. But not immediately after rooting.I removed all the unnecessary apps and stopped all the third party services using startup cleaner, dunno if that did it, but I am able to install apks again.

This point is selected but since today it is not more possible to install apk files.
Installation only direct from the market is possible.
Maybe a bug in the root???
I replaced the rooted R23 through R2BA0024 (not rooted) and have now no problem to install apk files.

Look up apps2sd its custom for 2.2 froyo but there is a work around for earlier versions, research lots before you do anything coz you can mess your phone settings if you don't know what your doing.
hi, just got this phone for my son. wanted to update to android 2.1, had to jump thru hoops just to get to the update service. tried to download and install back and restore on the phone no go. it wont allow me to install other than market place. its stupid that this app is not already installed. is there another app i could use to backup the phone before updating? thanks. btw, sonyericson's site really sucks!!!
So you posted a thread just to tell us this?
I'm curious, what kind of hoops did you have to jump through to get the update service? It's rather easy to download the Update Service app via their website. Actually, I've found Sony Ericsson's website one of the easiest to navigate. The Backup & Restore application COMES preinstalled with the phone, atleast that's how it was when I got mine with 1.6.
*sigh*

There are lots of backup apps on the market, I also did manage to search and download the backup and restore apk from the web. Haven't had any probs with x10 especially updating.

Are you in the US by any chance? If so, you won't find 2.1
And market should already be installed - you probably did something wrong during the update process
You must be on At&t, right? My At&t x10 didn't have backup and restore installed on 1.6 and no 3rd party apps either.
Are you in the US, then? Hope you don't plan on updating with SEUS... We will NEVER get it here
You can get past the install block by using Sideload Wonder Machine- 2nd post HERE, linked you to the thread to cover common problems...
Or just search backup in the market and find another app...
And then once you backup you can flash to 2.1 with Androxyde & Bin4ry's flash tool. use x10a generic build 2.1.A.0.435
the phone kind of sucks as it is when you buy it. especially from at&t. as i did.
but once u get into things on this site the phone is completely awesome.
and does not need any more bashing lol
we are more than happy with out modded x10's.
sorry
hi, sorry i forgot to say it is an at&t phone. i have sideload 1.0, i copied backup and restore to my hard drive, tried to load it with swm, but would not allow access. i'll try market place and use a different backup app.

First, if you just got it then there shouldn't be much to backup. Update to 2.1 and treat it like a new phone. Second, if you got it from AT&T your X10 is branded AT&T meaning they have put all sorts of restrictions and blocks on your phone. The one you are dealing with now is blocked access to non approved apps. Basically AT&T has pay services that they want to force you to use.
You need to forget about SEUS or PC Companion for now. You need to use the X10 Flash Tool 2.6 and flash x10a global generic firmware 2.1.A.0.435 found here on xda. This will debrand your phone lifting non-market app restrictions (you still have to check "allow non-market apps" in settings / applications). This will also give you the latest 2.1 update, including dualtouch. You can also use the flash tool to root your phone, giving you even more control to modify your system and remove the preinstalled junk apps you don't use that slow down your device.
So here's the lowdown:
After a long time, I updated my PlayNow Arena app. It works, no issues. However, I don't usually use it, except for things like Creatouch, etc, that are free and somewhat useful.
Now, after about 4 months or so of not using the app, I went on it for some reason or another. It started, however, from the loading screen it went to an XML file, and just showed a bunch of code. I tried twice, same thing happened.
Then I decided to be smart. I uninstalled it thinking that I'd get the system app, and BAM!, I'd be able to use it, then reupdate it.
Long story short, the app's gone from my device, and Sony Ericsson customer support sucks.
So how exactly do I get this app back? Anyone have an apk or link I can use? It downloaded it through some web link for the last update....
Maybe it's the matter of permissions? Try to fix permissions in xRecovery or CWM.

I've not rooted my phone, as my warranty is still "apparently" valid. (I got ripped off, and in turn, will rip the sales guy a new one.) I guess I'll need to root it to get back the Arena?
Anyone have the apk?
Solution: Found!
I've found the solution:
Using a File Explorer, go into Sytem>apps, from the phone root. Find the playnow.apk, and install. It'll reinstall the old version, and from there you can update.
Playnow arena app on xperia x8?

Hi,
I am kind of new to Android (not linux) and I am asking myself, if it is even possible to enable the search function somehow in Google Market.
There are several attempts to do so and some report it working. Unfortunately, the working reports are so old that I am confused weather it is still possible or not.
I have tried several Vending.apk's, even the ones reported working as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51
I am on 1.1.2. Maybe someone could confirm/disprove Market search working or not. Then we would know if struggling is worth the task getting it to work.
Thanks for the reply

Use SearchMarket.apk to search for apk's in the market.
It work's if you have registered your gmail account correctly (that is your market.apk works/connects to google play).
http://www.appbrain.com/app/searchmarket/youten.redo.searchmarket?install=appwidget
yeah no, that was not what i meant.
Of course Market is working with a proper gmail adress. I was talking about it being possible to search the market w/o searchmarket app. Like people telling it would work, but most posts are still of 2011. So my question is: Is it even possible to search the Market in nowadays Google Play time w/o 3rd party apps?
Why is searching not possible? IMO, it is because of server restictions, not because of the Vending.apk. Right?
So I assume these "claimed to be working" Vending.apk's are not working anyway anymore, are they?
Thx
How can I get the SearchMarket.apk file for manual adb installation? My Nook Market app won't let me install any app.
Edit: Managed to get it installed by searching for it from within the Browser and installing from the web interface. Weird but after that the SearchMarket app was shown topmost on MyApps in Market and could be clicked, which begun installation.
The problem is Market for Nook only displays a limited # (~15) of MyApps (given I have a Galaxy S3 with 350+ apps installed and that the Nook Market doesn't restrict to Nook installed ones).
just download market search from gstore ....... log on gmail acc that u root ur nst with and go to google store and search ur appz ur desire and download to ur acc ....... once u connect ur nook to wifi ur appz will download successfully , between that i am use market seacher on my rooted nst 1.1.2 and works great till now , try methid above with reinstall market searcher
good luck

Just in case.
youten.redo.searchmarket.apk
The apk itself is free so i guess uploading it here is not illegal.
I recently uninstalled (deleted) the apks of certain android apps like gtalk, calendar from my system/app folder on my rooted NST using root explorer.
Not sure if it is related, but, unable to install any app now from the app market. I use app-brain app market for downloading apps.
I'm able to find the apps, but on clicking on download, it doesn't get downloaded and instead says it is 'downloading' without any apparent change.
Is the problem related to the deletion of certain apks?
Note: haven't deleted any apk even associated with the word download/market.

Solved it. I Had uninstalled gtalk thinking it was unnecessary on the NST but it broke the market.
Installed gtalk and the market started working fine again.

last night i was using my nexus player and out of nowhere it just randomly decided to shut down. next thing i know upon reboot it tried to update but since im rooted and such it failed. the problem here was that it screwed up boot and i had to wipe the cache which erased most settings.
Is there a way to make the nexus player not try to automatically update? disable update in settings for that matter (in case someone tried to get cute and do it while im not around)?

LOL!!!! I'm going through this frustration right now. Couple things I've done first install a custom recovery it won't let you update. if you do get the endless bootloop clear cache and it will stop (the update is downloaded to the cache). It might do that twice then will pass. This worked for me until factory restored my device. I ended up forgetting and now I'm marshmallow.
Next thing I'm gonna try is pushing a build.prop from the next update to /system. It hasn't been pushed yet but they usually release it on the site with the factory images. If I don't flash aosp first.
Yes but i wonder if theres a way to disable it. it sucks that i have to clear cache every time it attempts to update. its happened 3 times on me now. i will try to install my own custom recovery so hopefully thats all thats needed but i noticed android also downloads the update in the background, which probably wastes more space if your not planning on upgrading.
Once you clear the cache it deletes the update. Almost forgot I read some where here on xda that deleting otacerts.zip will stop it from downloading entirely. Not suggesting you try it but next update I'm gonna
You might want to try the method I suggested at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62865084&postcount=6 and see if that works or not.

Tried this, and while it did stop the download from verifying, it just caused the nexus player to loop over and over by constantly downloading the update again, only to fail and repeat the process. This worked for a couple of days while i found the proper workaround, so thanks. keep in mind though that because it just caused the device to keep redownloading, this method could cause those on limited data plans to quickly go over.

for whatever reason service disabler did not want to work for me. it caused a constant crash every time i tried clicking on any service within the app. I did however, eventually come across "My Android Tools" by the same developer as service disabler. Using this app i was able to disable the systemupdateservice within both google framework and google play services. I had to use a bluetooth mouse to navigate though, as the remote didnt want to work on its own. Once i used this app and followed your directions, now when i attempt to do a manual system update in settings, it just acts like im on the current version, which i assume means it fails instantly. Thanks so much man! so far so good!
For anyone curious, the app is:

keep in mind you may need to connect a mouse somehow to the nexus player to navigate and disable the services.

I'm glad to hear that things worked out for you with this method and the alternate app by the same developer. I've been running Android 6.0 Marshmallow after flashing its factory image but once the monthly security updates and unwanted reboots in to TWRP start happening, I may disable the updates using this method.
How do you sideload either service disabler app? Neither are listed on apkmirror and searching the play store in browser doesn't give an option to install for nexus player.

Copy and paste the Google Play URL for the app (which was posted earlier in this thread) in to box at the top of https://apkpure.com/region-free-apk-download and press the green download button. You can install a firefox browser addon called apk downloader which will inject a button when you view the app in google play website to download the apk.
Use any root explorer or es file explore
make/mount system as rw
navigate to /system/etc/security
rename otacerts.zip into otacerts.zip.bak or whatever you want.
It will stiop the automatic update completely.
If you need ota update you need to rename th otacerts.zip back

Thanks for the info. Much more straight forward to do then sideloading app while hoping the app won't force close.
adb connect 192.168.xxx.xxx:5555
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
mv /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip /system/etc/security/otacerts-disabled.zip
mount -o remount,ro /system
Pr-requisite: must be rooted and ADB Wireless already installed.
Don't use this method (renaming ota_certs)! It will just cause the updates to continuously download and fail, then start downloading again. You'll use a lot of bandwidth this way, and if you have a data cap, this is a sure fire way to bust through it.
