Best Buy + Upgrades

I'm wondering if I can use my upgrade at best buy.. I'm guessing i can because I don't want to deal with the mail in rebate... :/ whats also cool about best buy, is when you sign up with sprint through them, they instantly give you an upgrade. I got my hero in Nov and have had that little $150 upgrade thing on MySprint this whole time just thought I inform the uniformed. I'm going morning of June 4th and getting this beast btw. do you think there will be a line?

I also got an instant upgrade when I joined my a family plan when I got a hero, same with my wife. From RadioShack though. I thought it was a glitch or something and hope it doesn't go away haha. Plan on using it for the Evo.

If that is true that is annoying. If it is incorrect it is more irritating as I am sick of retail employees who don't know a damn thing about the stores they work at . If anyone knows that would be great. I would like to know all my options.

Looks like I'm be going to BestBuy to pre-order today

I would love to preorder my main concern if I do it through BestBuy is will Sprint still give me the credits that I'm getting now. For example, I get $20 credit a month plus 15% discount. Those are big credits to me. My bill goes from $89.99 (before taxes and fees) to $70 after all taxes and fees. I would hate to loss those.

you will get everything your contract has now . ive upgrades 3 times at BB and never had any troubles .
i want to know HOW much you need to pre order ... i have never preordered a phone

could I also turn in my hero at time of purchase for some money back? I know sprint does that

$50 and the rebate is instant ..... i just got back mine is securedDD

I went to BB today to preorder my phone. I'm a Sprint Premier customer and my 12m date was June 11th. The sales person looked up my account and said I'm eligible as of June 1st. Fantastic timing!

Well I won't qualify for the $150 upgrade credit because I used it for the Hero. But at least I can get the $100 rebate up front. So I'll be paying $350 for my Evo.

You might want to check with them again because one the sales reps said it would be 599.99 retail price from best buy.

How much did this phone cost you?

I pre-ordered the Atrix using AT&T's web store for $320.99 after tax. I assumed the packaging would include a $100 mail in rebate since I'd see the phone advertised for $199 everywhere else.
When I got the phone, there was no rebate material in the box.
I then called AT&T and asked for the $100 rebate. They said I needed to go to an AT&T store to get the rebate. This afternoon, I went to an AT&T store and they said there is no rebate unless you buy the dock. I called AT&T again to complain and they explained I would have to return my phone and buy a new one to get the $199 price. Unfortunately, my sister threw out my packaging so it seems I now spent $320 on a $200 phone. Major bummer.
Does this seem idiotic to anyone else?
So, were any of you guys screwed in a similar way?

I wasn't upgrade eligible but the AT&T website automatically gave me the early upgrade price of $299 and also an instant online discount of $100 so I paid 217 total with taxes. I was actually ready to buy off contract for $499 but it wouldn't give me the option. I recommend you call back and try another rep. I've heard of others that have received the discount after complaining.

i never buy from att anymore, i buy from best buys. they charge you for the phone at the same price as att but without needing a rebate, plus they tax you only on that amount not on the full retail like att does.

Costco. 119.00 plus tax. They even threw in a cheap wired headset and holster.

originally quoted down to $299 over the phone for a "special" early upgrade price because I am not eligible til 2/12.
I ended up having the opportunity to port a dummy business line and have my boss pay for the pay increase. They allowed me to use the line activation to get the atrix on my line and then buy a go phone for the new line. I brought in an amazon print out for $149 and they said they couldn't match but would give me 25 off. so all in all I made out great. LOVE the phone btw. makes my crappy completely forgettable.

was due for an upgrade like a year ago, my iphone crapped out on me and I had no money. Went into brandsmart and got an HTC Aria for a penny with my contract renewal, the lady didnt feel like breaking my $20 bill so I got the aria for free this past November. When the atrix came out my next upgrade wasnt till 2012, but when I looked at it on att website it was giving it to me for $200, so I ordered it. I then sold my HTC Aria on ebay and recouped my $200 thus making the Atrix free. this phone is incredible!!!!! couldnt be happier!!!

Always check best buy first no matter who u use. Usually any mail in rebates any carrier gives u will be an instant rebate at best buy.

Wow this has been a pretty enlightening threat. I've learned to never pre-order and just buy from Costco instead.
My debacle was resolved last night. I found my packaging in the trash at home and brought it to a local AT&T corporate store. They said I had to return the phone and buy a new one in order to get my $100+ back. All told it was a pretty ridiculous process but at least I ended up buying it for $199 eventually. Also, now i have another Atrix I need to root and setup to my liking. Oh well.

$149 from local AT&T store. Wasn't upgrade eligible yet, but they agreed to allow early upgrade and price match local retailers, and Radio Shack was running them at $149. AT&T website had them at $199 at the time.

$106.49, tax included, on launch day (Feb 22) at an AT&T store.
Had a 100 dollar off upgrade on one of the lines of my family plan.

540 USD (include tax) at AT&T-Miami store (No contract).

Costco: $119+tax.
Went back a week later to get a new Atrix (old one was messed up) and saw that they had it for $99. I got $20 back on my CC. In the end:
$99+tax. (Costco price for upgrade or new line).

Have you ever cancelled service within 30days?

Hey everyone I was wondering if someone can help me out. I'm currently with Sprint as well as ATT. I have an Evo and Rumor on my sprint account and a Inspire and IPhone 3gs on my ATT account.
I'm thinking about canceling my service on my ATT account because I'm still within my 30 days and I see Sprint is coming out with a good Android lineup.
When I got my ATT service I also paid $150 deposit. But when I contacted ATT earlier today to see of I would be getting my deposit back, she told me that I had to contact bestbuy for that since I bought my inspire from bestbuy. This doesn't seem correct because bestbuy said that they don't have anything to do with deposits...that goes to the carriers.
So my question is if anybody ever bought a phone from a 3rd party..like bestbuy, wirefly etc, paid a deposit and canceled service within 30 days, did you receive your deposit back? And how long did it take?

Yes they do, go to best buy, return the phone, you get your deposit and the money for the phone back, the bill pronrated will be mailed to you...I did it with my palm pre on sprint at SAMs club and my friend did the same thing at SAMs club with the evo, btw this belongs in the Q and A

Well AT&T has a good line up on Samsung Android phones, like the Dempsey, the 4.5 (i think) inch screen and thinner than the iPhone 4. My homestay is programming it, and its running stock everything and its faster, slimmer, and battery lasts longer than my EVO.
But really its up to you.
I went for unlimited calling and data for 5 for $200 with boeing discount.

With Sprint you get everything back, deposits, restocking, bill, etc. No charges at all unless you downloaded ringtones or something. Not sure what AT&T's return policy is.
Best Buy has to give you your money since you bought it there.

Last time I upgraded I had Verizon so it was a new every 2 type deal where I was getting a new phone for free. I see sprint gives a $150 credit. Does that mean I have to pay $400 for the new evo lte? Can someone shed some light on this before I go to the Sprint Store as I want to get the best deal I can without them bending me over. Thanks!

Ultimately you get more than 150 off. Basically the Evo lte will cost you 199 at sprint, as will any of their top tier phones. 199 is kind of sprints Max price on upgrade or new phone.

If your off contract eBay it up man, spend the extra as sprint makes you go a full two years without upgrade. plus you can get an international version which I'm pretty sure comes unlocked from HTC. That's how I got my og and it was unlocked in a sealed factory box.

Plus a $30 activation fee.

Or try wirefly for 120 and then if u got AAA call them to get activation waived, if u really want to make the most of ur ur upgrade experience, call Sprint and ask if you have a Contract renewal bonus on ur account, if u do you can extend ur contract and get 50+ bucks, then go and buy a phone and sign a 2 yr contract, then 20 months latter do it again

International version won't work on sprint, and cdma devices can't be unlocked, that only works on GSM carriers I.e. T-Mobile and at&t just so you know before you go buying an unlocked international version of a device and then find out after you have it that it's not gonna work on your carrier in any way, shape or form

Besides not being tied to a contract, what are some of the benefits to buying unlocked phone - freedom to choose from multiple carriers? I live in ATL, and Sprint is about to release their LTE here, so my thought was to wait for the G S III when it's released.

Activation fees are $36. Check out their discount program, credit unions waive it.

About the unlocked question, sprint has to load every esn into a database unlocked Intl or GSM only phones are not and therefore cannot be activated. If you buy a sprint phone on ebay make sure the esn is clear before buying. Sprint will be able to check the status for you.

Having never gotten a "brand new" phone before, I am curious about the timeline... I'm shocked we still don't know when the phone will be released - how hard is it to figure out when you want to release a phone?
So, with my impatience leading the charge here, how long was it between the EVO 4G pre-order and the actual release date? How about with the EVO 3D? Thanks everyone! I wish they would tell you upon pre-ordering.

Sprints upgrade discount is a complete lie!!!! Sprint customers who's contract just ran out will pay the same price as anyone just walking in and buying the phone. Now Verizon actually gives their customers, who's contract just ran out, and a discount. Verizon discount comes off the 2year contract price, and so you pay less than others starting a new contract. Sprint just makes the normal 2year contract discount $150 less than it really is, but then adds in your $150 upgrade discount; so the 2year contract price comes out to be the same. How ridiculous!!
When I left Verizon for Sprint 2 years ago I was excited that their 2year discount was more than Verizon's.. Just recently found out that I was wrong though, and you get NO 2year discount from Sprint in actuality.... If Sprint didn't have unlimited data, cheaper monthly plans, and carry better phones, then I might go back to Verizon. And sadly, as of lately Sprint is the best at getting in phones, AT&T seems to be getting the best devices for the last 6 months or so... AT&T coverage is a joke in my area, and I'd probably pay twice as much as I do with Sprint every month, or they would be my current choice of carrier.....

I haven't heard of any stores that aren't going to have it. All stores should have it. I'm getting it from Sprint cause Best Buy and the others manage to always screw up sownthing. 14 day return policy from Sprint, 30 day from Best Buy. Unsure about radioshack.

I'm gonna try to get mine from the local Walmart. If you live in CA, then Walmart is the place to get it from. I just found out that Walmart only charges tax on the sales price of the item. By CA tax laws, we are supposed to pay tax on the full retail price. Just scooped up an iPhone 5 for my wife's Bday today for $205 out the door.
From the Sprint Store, BestBuy etc it would have cost $254. They charge the $199.99 and then sales tax on the $649.99 value of the device. So thats a big savings in my book, as I saved just under $50 this way.

wow that's really good to know. how did you find this out? where in the east bay are you??

I'll be ordering mine through the Sprint website or call telesales. They seem to be pretty good on shipping. My wife's iphone5 came in two days, when they said that there was a 3 week delay.

I live in Brentwood...Far East Bay. lol
But all Walmarts around do this. I found out a few months ago, when my Mom wanted to get my Pops an upgrade from his iPhone 3Gs. She asked if she had to get it from AT&T and I told her that they can do it at any authorized AT&T reseller. So they were in the local Walmart and my Pops upgraded to an iPhone 4.
My Mom called me later, since she was confused about the price she was charged. She said she was only charged Tax on the SALE price of the phone, not full RETAIL tax. So I googled it and found lots of others said the same thing. So I was pretty stoked to find this out, since that more than wipes out the $36 Activation Charge Fee. You still come out ahead this way, as I would have paid $253, plus $36 activation on my bill. I ended up paying $205, plus $36 activation fee.
I called 5 Walmarts in our county and no one had any iPhone 5's. So I called Tracy Walmart, which is only 30mins from me. He had one iPhone 5 in stock and they charge $189.99 for it, so off we went. The guy was really cool and into Android and we started chatting about the Note 2 during the activation process. He said he was waiting on it (AT&T) and was juiced. He said to give him a call and check back next week, to see if he has em in stock.
PS - They had a Note 1 on display with the other models. So I gotta assume they will also get the Note 2.

Called the Walmart in Mountain View and confirmed that they charge tax on the sale price. Now, can anyone tell me if Walmart will get the Note 2 when it comes out on Thursday??

I'm hoping they will. Like I said earlier, they had a Note 1 on display.

I'm doing Bestbuy. Price match/ return/ exchange within 60 days for me. I get points for purchases as well.

I don't like buying at non-Sprint stores because they tend to screw things up. Happened when I got my EVO 4G from radioshack. Never happened to me at Best Buy cause I worked there and made sure it was done right. That's just me though.

I have that rewards program too. But BB charges full retail tax and they
also inflate their retail prices, so taxes are even higher for CA.

As of today (11/2/2012) Wirefly and Marketplus still don't carry the Note 2... I'm also looking to avoid the CA sales tax. I was quoted $87 just in tax from Sprint telesales.
Any Californian have any success getting around the tax?

From what I hear, 3rd party Sprint retailers should have it around the 9th-11th. That's what I'm waiting for, that and the fact I get paid on the 10th. lol
