Very strange problem , can not charge my Atom with the AC charger, the stupid charger charges my Imate JAMin, and JAMin charger wont charge my Atom,
The funny thing is it charges fine through pc usb
any ideas.
i have exactly the same problem, did u end up figuring it out?? its driving me nuts
I had this issue also, this time with a ghetto charger (that comes with a port for plugging in your USB cables). The ghetto charger works on my Mini, but the Atom stops after 5 seconds. Only the charger that came with the Atom works on it.
Unfortunately, there's no solution for this. Quanta apparently had this safety-locked just like Motorola did their RAZR series.
found out that motorola v3 razor charger could actually charge your atom, thx for your help
LOL... I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT. THE EXACT SAME CHARGER LOCK MECHANISM. >_>
Really? Does it charge as fast as the original charger? Can the original charger be used on a MotoRAZR? This is a very nice hack, tho not quite as useful as some might hope. <_<
im not sure if it would work the other way around, i cant see why not.
charging speed is about the same, but don't quote me on that one
cheers
to cause a short circuit on the plug pins, haha,it will be ok
hi all,
i am encountering another problem... opposite from wats happening to u all. my usb is not charging my atom exec when the battery is 35% or lower...
does anyone encounter the same problem?
I have a tytn and had the same problem, can charge and sync thru usb but no luck with the ac-charger. Thou yesterday i noticed if i leave it on in the ac-charger long enough it actually starts charging. Weird but i've tried and it really worked the cpl of times i tried. It takes about a minute or two before the led turn orange.
Same problem here. It charges on USB but not on my original AC charger. Has anyone already found the reason for this?
We have generic and "öther brand" branded chargers here in the Philippines. I've experienced the same problems both with the AC and Car Chargers here until I used a voltage regulator for the AC charger and a motorola car charger. Those that worked with my xda2 doesn't work with my atom. My advise to those with the same problem is to either buy a motorola AC or Car Charger whichever you need or use a voltage regulator in tandem with your original AC charger. If your PC USB doesn't charge while syncing with your PC, format your PC. Chances are, it's too cluttered already.
Hope this helps
how come it says in the manual that while charging the atom, it will display an amber/orange light?mine is displaying a red light?and i am encountering the same problem when charging. it charges for 5seconds and it will stop. the battery indicator displays a full bar.but it is not actually charged.can someone post the specification of the original charger that came with the package?i just bought a new charger here in singapore since i left my charger in the philippines.and the original charger that i got is for atom stealth. will it be okay?
OK, I tried searching the forum for a similar post and didn't find anything but wanted to share a bit of heart-burn resolution after my Wizard ran completely down on power and would not charge back up. It would seem that once the Wiz is completely dead, you must use the AC Charger that came with the phone. I have had 3-4 RAZR's in the past and their charger works great when the Wiz still has power but they will not charge the phone when it is dead.
The only difference I see in the two chargers is that the HTC charger supplys 5.0V 1A of power unlike the Motorola charger only supplys 5.0V 550mA.
Hope this helps others.
Not only that, but if you leave your Wizard (my 8125) charging overnight with a normal Motorola power supply, it could also run down your battery to zero. The wizard charger supplies normal cell phones, so you either need to use the one that came with your device or make sure when you buy an additional one that it will supply the same level of power.
I thought I had a defective battery for a few days when I first got the device because I was using my Pebl charger and the same thing happened to me...
Thank you for this post....I thought I had finally loaded something on my phone that I couldn't recover from...lol.

i hope you all are wrong.
my mda vario is totally dead. i tried a friend's battery and it powered up like normal. so i assumed a dead (not only empty) battery and ordered one from ebay (still waiting though).
unfortunately i have so many different chargers for usb that i don't know what the original one looks like. maybe someone could post a picture or tell me the exact type.
thanks. regards ize|man
ps. @mbn: your power goes down to zero with a different charger ATTACHED??? even if that provides lower ampere - how can it drain power from the device?
pps. i even tried my universal car charger (12V -> usb). afaik it provides 1A as well. but i can be wrong.
Just make sure the 12>usb supplies a 5v voltage, nothing more or else you would be one unhappy person.

Yes, i was using the iGO tip that I bought for a Motorola phone (A32, I believe), I left my 8125 plugged in (powered down) with that tip overnight in a hotel room and the next morning I woke up and it was completely drained to zero. However, a few other times it did not drain to zero. I thought I had a flaky battery so I ordered a replacement from eBay and the next week the same thing happened. I finally got smart and now I have the right tip (A53) and it works fine. The male part of the two iGO tips look exactly the same (A32 & A53) so I thought it would be the same power supply. Wrong!
What's stranger is that if your pda is on and you plug in a Motorola phone power supply and the battery is not close to zero, it DOES charge the battery. I think the key is not leaving it plugged in when it's powered down for many hours at a time. A full day out of the office without email has taught me 2 valuable lessons: always bring the right power supply and always carry a spare battery.

sure
of course it supplies 5v as it's meant to be.
but that leaves me with my open question: what is printed on the original power supply so i can identify it? thx.

I was told that the ic chip inside the MDA and Razr charger is different so using the razr charger might not be a good idea. As for the OEM charger, mind was made by Delta Electronics Inc. HTC P/N:79H00051-01M
i have the same problem now. the battery is completely drained, and i can't charge my phone now. i lost my original chaarger, and i've been using a USB cable to charge.
Same thing happened to me... while traveling no less!!! In my case, it was a Boxwave retractable charger: battery at zero, USB didn;t work...freaked me out.
Wenlez, you can either got to a Tmobile or Cingular store and get the RIGHT replacement charger, or get the correct iGO tip. You should be OK.
I am trying to find out what the correct, original charger is for the wizard.
If you have a wizard, can you please look at your home wall charger / ac adapter and tell me what the specs are? Is it 500mA, 800mA, 1A, something else? It should say directly on the charger somewhere.
Also, have you ever had any problems charging the phone with it. There is a problem with the travel chargers (500mA) charging a wizard if the battery is completely empty - it has trouble starting the charge (charges fine if it didn't die completely). So - if your phone battery completely dies because you did not charge it at night or something, can your charger get it charging and running again without any issues?
That's it! Just trying to find what the original charger is so I can order one like it. I have found 800mA chargers easily but I was thinking the original was 1A instead. Not sure though...
Thanks!
Only 1.00 amp charger is capable to charge a completely discharged (dead) battery,so get a 1A wall charger, you won't regret.Every Wizard device is supplied originally with a 1A charger,so thats what I have, never had any charging problem, even if sometimes gets lower than the required retention charge,it gets the battery charged.
That's what I thought...I'm just having the toughest time finding those online...It seems nobody has an original charger or even one with similar specs...They are all too weak...the 1A chargers I have found have been 5.5V and not 5V.
Any ideas on where to get an original? It seems like 5V 1A USB charger would not be so hard to find but they are all too weak or don't list the specs (in which case they may not be the right one). Perhaps there is a manufacture part number on your charger? If so, maybe I can do a search for that part number and find it.

Well,I can give you charger details which I'm using ,I don't know if its available online, but there's no harm in trying,You can try e-bay online, here they are :-
DELTA ELECTRONICS INC
AC/DC Adapter MA0614

Good luck !
I just received my stash of charging gear for my Optimus 7 today, bought from DX. Having read everywhere that USB chargers are 5V +/- 10%, and seeing that the original LG charger outputs 4.8V, I thought my purchase was ok and that this charger would work.
Turns out it doesn't. When I connect the phone to the charger via USB, I lose control of the touchscreen and the system gains a mind of its own. I literally just hold my phone in my hand and stare while it randomly enters hubs and either opens an email message or dials someone. The physical buttons still respond correctly, and it's not until I disconnect the charger from the wall socket or the phone from the USB cable that I can regain control of the phone. My guess is it's a hardware fault and not software.
Granted this unofficial charger cost me around $1, but I got some similar 5V car chargers to go with it, and I've never had problems with other USB chargers.
Unofficial charger specs:
Input: 100-240V 0.15A (0.15A) 50-60hz
Output: 5V 1A
Does someone else have this issue? Is the Optimus 7 an uncommon device for requiring 4.8V input instead of 5V?
Your problem is NOT the charger, as that has nothing to do with the functions of the phone.
Your problem is that your LG Optimus 7 E900 is a DEMO unit, with a DEMO ROM. And until you flash a stock ROM onto your phone, you will experience the demo played out while connected to a power source.
You sure? Because I tried it with the 5V 1A car adapters and no problem, and the original 4.8V 1A charger gives me no problems either.
How do I check my ROM version? Firmware is 1.0.7.10, OS is 7.0.7008.0 after the February update.
Can you get us video on this?
Please excuse the ****ty video quality
That is most fascinating. I recommend you stop using that charger on your phone
So, obviously, you do NOT have the demo ROM as I suspected initially.
Since you say it works with another 5V 1A charger, then I think this specific charger may be sending unexpected, random data signals down the USB cable, resulting in the unresponsive and bizarre behaviour. Since the original charger works well, and charges pretty fast, just stick with that for now.
At least you got the update, here in Canada, we are still waiting for our first update.
And your English is so good, and without any accents...Are you sure you aren't from our here (North America)?
This is true magic Really I have no eplanation on this problem. It is only 0,2V
Yeah, and there I was thinking that the whole point of USB charging is that it's universal and totally compatible, no matter what adapter you buy and what cable you use, provided it connects well.
It seems this is not the case, and I'm weary of trying another third party USB charger, as I still cannot tell if this phenomenon is unique to the Optimus 7 or not. Sadly, the only other MicroUSB phones I have lying around don't actually support charging via this port, just data transfer.
i also admit that im "dazzled" by ur -smart-phone...
probably that adapter is"magical" somehow... did u try it on another phone??
+i also use different chargers but never had any abnormalities so far..
Though i use the original chargers that came with my blackberry 9700 and htc-desire, and just checked the blackberry output is 5v!! i cant read the htc...
So, probably that adapter of yours is a "mutant from another place"...
confirm, htc is also 5v...
ps2- i'm also on 7008, and havent got any issues with charging on both 7004 and 7008
The problem is in the charger, it's too chinese . I had this issue with other touchscreen phones, like SE X8, X10... Just change the charger, obviously it has some hum/noise...
lol...
too chinese? lol
im having the same issue when i use the lg power adapter.. it doesnt always happen but when it happen the touch screen just when berserk.
i always thought that it happens on all units. uh oh
To be honest, I thought you were crazy till I bought a Chinese adapter as well. Don't know the voltage, but I'll check it tomorrow. I think it might have to do with the way the unit is shielded, or not. The only time I wiggs out is when I leave it on the desk, but as soon as I pick it up and pull it a few inches away form the desk or any other object it works fine. But as soon as I put it back down, the screen does the same thing.
I have a usb plug that I plug into the computer that didn't do that at the same desk, I'm going to bring in my other charger and see if it rule out the outlet / interference or just the cheap a$$ adapter....
The only part that worries me, and the only reason I might stop using it, is it takes a bit from the time I unplug it to the time the phone realizes it's unplugged and the charging icon stops. Which doesn't happen with any other charger.
I had this problem too.. until I realized it affected my other touch screen devices too (Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab)... Turns out the 5V charger was the problem. Replaced it with a 5V charger of Philips/Belkin/Samsung/LG and all worked..
The unbranded 5V chargers don't work well with capacitive screens as they seem to be letting off some extra current.
I have a weird probably Software Problem charging my Thinkpad tablet. It is running the latest OTA Firmware 0089_WE, and I struggle with the following behaviour lately (it once charged completely without any issues). I only have the micro-usb charger, to juice the tablet. As long as the Display is switched on, it shows the charging symbol, and the red charging light is on - but if I leave the tablet alone, the display will switch off, and also the charging light - the tablet is no longer charged. Anyone have a clue, what I might have done wrong?
I have also had charging problems since the ota2 update.
Same problem - tablet not charging when in sleep mode
Thought that I had done something wrong but since others are experiencing it, then suppose it's not just me.
What I have done so far:
1. Used the standard charger
2. Used a Samsung charger
3. Used a blackberry playbook charger
When I had first connected the device, selected the charge only option, as it was connected to the standard charger, didn't think to have the sync option enabled. Maybe that would make a difference but doubt it.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone had any luck with finding a solution? Mine seems to be better but not like it was with honeycomb.
Yup

Call Lenovo Support. This is a design flaw in the MicroUSB Charging Port. They will repair.

Is this a hardware repair, or a firmware/software repair?
I ask because I only just started experiencing this problem after installing CM-10 this week.
I also found some issues when charging the Thinkpad Tablet.
In my case the workaround was to get a Thinkpad Tablet dock, which uses the dock port to charge it. It used to charge it very fast and reliable compared to Micro USB. Sadly my TPT is now bricked and I can not test it anymore.
Some other guys (gotta check the thread) even created a connector cable from the dock port to the Thinkpad Adapter. It was very cool, but it is not being sold, only to build it yourself.
Regards
Martin
I just got my TPT in the mail, and it's running Honeycomb (according to the eBay description.) I've got it hooked up to charge right now, but I don't see a red charging LED like you guys mentioned. Where is that LED?
