Hey,
I have just recently noticed a weird problem on my Arc..
When the battery goes below 20% it shuts down (similar to the way how it would shut down when the battery is out).
Then I need to connect the charger and switch it on, after which the battery will show at 1% and in 5 mins it will change to 21-22%...
so basically below 20% the phone thinks its actually ran out of battery even though it hasnt and hence shuts down..
any ideas about what could be causing this? is it a problem with my phone or the battery?
thanks

Have you try to clear the battery stats?
You need to be rooted to do that (I hope everyone knows that )

First thing you need to have "root". If you don't haven't rooted, use GingerBreak to root. Search the forum for the thread.
Second install Battery Monitor Widget from Market. Open the application (This is a widget. So you may want to insert the widget in your home screen), press menu and click "Statistics" option and it will prompt you for confirmation. Once done reboot to make sure it's cleared properly (Not necessary, but recommended).
Hope this resolves your issue.

I had a similar problem with my arc after charging it for the first time (charged it till 100% with the phone turned on). Then, after I used the phone, when it reached 10%, it just shut down. Then I decided to charge it with the phone turned off and this really helped. After two full charging cycles, the battery is acting normal. Now my arc shuts down at 2% which I think is normal.
Clearing battery stats has worked so far...thanks a lot...

Has anyone else used the batterycalibration app from the market?
I found that after using it my battery life is worse! I used Juice Defender before and after using this app, keeping the settings exactly the same, and noticed the following changes after ensuring 100% charge at night, the battery state in the morning was/is:
Before using batterycalibration - 99-100%
After using batterycalibration - 93-95%
Nothing else has changed as far as running apps is concerned so I can't understand why I now have this drop in battery. I've also noticed that the battery drains a lot quicker after using this app (only used it once). Juice Defender used to do a very good job of managing my battery but after using the batterycalibration app I'm not seeing any benefit, in fact totally the opposite.
Have you tested batterylife by timing it yourself? Batterycalibration obviously calibrates your battery. It corrects the displayed %. This means that before, when it said 99%, it could have been 93% as well, but just said it was 99%.

Yes, I check it with systeminfo so I know it's a better indication than just the battery icon.

The app sucks. I calibrated with the app and then calibrated the proper way and the proper way took an extra 30 min to completely charge.
Never use the app. Just charge till green. Unplug and turn off the charge till green while off. Then once green unplug the phone and turn the phone back on let it boot up completely then turn off again and charge till green or ten minutes whichever is longer then unplug and turn on and go into cwm and clear bat stats. Restart phone and enjoy

I was going to do this (bump the battery) but seen quite a lot of posts here, and other forums, where people have seen worse battery life and, in a few cases, their battery dies and becomes totally unusable. Might give it a go though, once I get a spare battery.
Hi Guys,
Speaking of battery calibration I am about to go travelling for several months with my desire and have 4 batteries to take with me. Is there anything imparticular I should consider when charging/swapping between these batts in terms of calibration. I also have an external battery charger I was going to use to charge them the majority of the time.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

I always use this app and it works great. It just erases the batterystats.bin file.
FYI, HTC actually used to recommend the above mentioned technique but have now warned against it as they say it is terrible for your battery's health.
Works wonders for me, use it on 3 devices, and have had no problems.

Hi look at this-im charging my battery whole night(tab is off),indicator shows 100%.then I turn it on and the tab shows is only 78% battery.sometimes its okey but lately is more often!ik wondering what can be the cause.im using my tab for about half a year and always take care of my battery so i dont think its a battery issue.have anyone got any idea?take care

I second that.
Have you tried it yet? Does it work for you?
I have seen some (slightly) weird behaviour on my Tab. When I charge to 100% (in off state) then turn tab on (with charger still plugged in) I only ever get to 99%.... I suspect my charger may not be quite 5v (or whatever) or the device drains enough charge / sucks enough juice to not let it ever get to 100% while turned on. Slightly weird... but of no real practical concern.
I noticed with my evo amd tab that if i leave them on the charger all night they drop percentahe very quickly like within a minute ill be down to 98%. I read somewhere to charge with unit on also. When i charge til they are full and pull them off they hold 100% for a while depending on usage.
HTC EVO 4G running Mikg 2.58
This happens when battery level is below like 30% on my HTC Evo. I am using a customized ROM (Supersense). Whenever the battery reaches 30% remaining, it doesn't drop. However, if I use the phone for a while and restart it, the battery shows only 10%. Clearly, some of the battery management program does not work properly. Is it a bug related to battery itself (hardware) or ROM (software)? Anyway to fix this?
You could try charging your phone up fully then go into recovery and delete the battery stats(Under Advanced in CWM), unplug your phone and use it until it discharges fully and shuts off. Finally, recharge the phone fully again once it has died. I believe this will calibrate the software that monitors your battery or something like that. You can find more specific instructions on the net if you want. Some people like to bump charge and everything else to try to get it perfect but I never found the need to go to that extreme.

Download "battery left" from the market and it will recalibrate your battery. Also yes, I would reset battery stats as well but battery left will actually recalibrate it. Battery stats is how long the phone has been on, what's using the most battery, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Just boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
I had this problem once.
All I did was download "Battery Left" as VICODAN said and I flashed this zip that I got from somewhere on this site but I forget where. I had to change the updater-script and the binary but either way it works on our Shift. Charge to 100% and flash this, then with Battery Left install use the phone till it dies and after that, you should be golden.
battery calibration
U can try the app battery calibration also in the market. If you're rooted.
*Since we're talking about batteries.
I wish our phones would beep or set off an alarm when charged to 100%.
I was keeping battery calibration just for that, it has that option but only worked maybe 1 out of 20 times the alarm went off.

Love the app, so when i got to sleep or I am going to calibrate, I just open the calibration app throw it on charge, it beeps I hit calibrate unplug and done. That way I don't have to open the app when It's 100% or with early morning fuzzy eyes and fingers that don't work right

Hi there,
I'm using P6800 and started experience abnormal on the better.
The battery warning on 15% charge, it will get flat very fast. And when reached 8%, the phone just initiate a shutdown. Had you face this problem?
1 more thing is that when the phone say full charged, once the plug pull off, it show 99%.
Mind is till virgin and unroot...

This is normal, mine is showing the same, but still at 8% upon shut down you can still power it on several times until it reaches 0%.

Mine doesn't do that... If i take my tab off power i have 100% for around 5 to 10 minutes, depending on usage. Also it shuts itself off exactly on 0%. Most of the times I see 0% battery for quite a few minutes before it powers down.
what did you do to make it like that? Rooted?
I'm a rooted stock 3G
My battery stays at 100% for a bit unless i am running some heavy duty processes. However I do also experience the battery going flat very quickly after it goes below 10%. I also found that very odd, and I think it would be at 2% when it initiates the shutdown process.
I would like to hear any thoughts as well on why this might be happening

I didn't do anything to it. Browsing the web on wifi, 3g disabled it goes down to 0% before shutting down. When I play angry birds I can see 0% battery quite a few minutes before it shuts down.
Yes, my device is rooted.

Shutting down on 15% would be normal for a broken battery.
My htc desire shuts down on 2-5% and I thought about sending it for repair. Unfortunately I didn't but now seeing my 7.7 can go down to 0% I think I should have. It is totally not normal for an intact battery to behave like that.
Could you please post how long your battery is lasting on average?
New Galaxy Tab 7.7 Same Battery Issue
I have the same issue with the battery, i tried root and battery calibration; nothing happens. My tablet is brand new it has less than a month.
The battery life is not bad but like other said: Battery get flat after 8%. And its shutdown but you can turn it on several times until you get a complete discharge.
What can i try to solve the problem?. It looks like a bug or software related issue.
Someone has any idea how to fix it?. Thanks!
Hi, today I went to office, I can see the battery reading is 84% after one hour of use in the transportation. When I plug the phone to the charger it shows 100% immediately (Charge so quickly isn't it ? :laugh. It remains 100% even I reboot the phone. Did anyone meet this bug?
Have never encounterd such a thing. Are you rooted?
Sv: Incorrect reading for battery after updated to 4.2.2
Never seem it but try a factory reset. I always do one after a system update.
Skickat från min Nexus 4
It's likely nothing is wrong. After every ROM flash, the battery calibration always messes up a bit. Just use the phone normally and the calibration will fix itself after a couple charge cycles. If you want to fix it sooner, run the battery down and charge it again.

That will happen with any/all N4's at some point. More commonly the battery will lie to you, forget to update battery level during deep sleep, etc... Your phone isn't "broken".

i tried it on my old phone and it worked. So far my N4 is still fairly calibrated.
batterystats.bin has absolutely nothing to do with the battery level your phone is showing you. Its a per charge battery history file, i.e. what you see if you go to Settings>Battery.

As far as am aware it doesn't really work? So your saying changing recovery for you helped with your battery, coz like i take it off charge and its 100% then it jumps down to 97% after a few minutes and am not even doing anything.. and i just got this phone this week. Am tempted to send it back, i don't know what to do?

That is because you left the phone plugged in for so long that it hits 100%, then it starts discharging to prevent overcharge.. so it drops to 95%, then charges again. You took it off at 97% (yes, it might still have shown 100% for a little while so you don't go and plug it in again).
