Instead of 100 people posting etc. with the iconia, how about we try to work with 1 concise list? At the end of this week I'll call Acer to see what on this list (if any) are known and being worked on.
Please be concise, I don't really want explanations. Just copy the issue and put a + beside something you're experiencing/seeing and I will use that to make the list or add your flavor to the issue, but be as precise as possible please.
I've added these from memory. I'm not adding hardware or perceived issues (dead pixels, slip factor, button placement, etc.)
If it's not here, add your issues (to the point) and I'll add it to the list.
Also, please list your build along with your post and optionally the area in which you purchased, just state or European equivalent (TX, USA for eg).
Settings, About Tablet, Build Number is where you can find the build number.
My list will be blow this one, as an example.
The List:
1. Backlight comes on randomly
1.1 Happens ALOT
1.2 Happens RARELY
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep
2b. Tablet turns off during long periods of non-use/sleep
2c. Tablet reboots randomly
2d. Tablet turns off randomly
3. Experiencing obviously weak wifi signals
4. GPS won't work without Wifi
5. MicroSD not showing up after wake from sleep
6. Cell standby active and draining the battery
7. Can't disable wifi?/can't turn off wifi/wifi turns itself on
8. Compass wrong/"off"
9. Consistent Market Crashes
Update:
It's about a week later, I will be submitting the list on Friday the 20th. It looks like the same problems are plaguing at least 2 build numbers. I also don't like that Acer hasn't issues a single update for the tablets yet - though it is rather soon, I'm comparing this to the Xoom and Asus machines which have already gotten several. Of course on the other hand, both the Xoom and Asus have been on the market for at least a month earlier so hopefully Acer won't take TOO long to issue at least one fix.
From the list there seems to be 2 MAJOR issues, but of course that is relative. In my opinion the freezing/crashing and the backlight coming on seem to be the most prevalent ones. The market crashes I don't think we can pin on Acer - that seems like it's more a broad situation with Honeycomb and truthfully I haven't seen much of that, so it may also have to do with what apps are on the tablet (autoupdating, etc.).

1. Backlight comes on randomly
1.1 Happens ALOT
1.2 Happens RARELY +
Note: Never happens if wifi is off or if I disable background data.
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep +
2b. Tablet turns off during long periods of non-use/sleep +
2c. Tablet reboots randomly +
Note: Only happens when my GPS is left on overnight/during sleep/hibernation.
5. MicroSD not showing up after wake from sleep +
Note: Have seen this, but is rare.
6. Cell standby active and draining the battery +
Note: PLEASE FIX ITTTTT!

The List:
1. Backlight comes on randomly
- never noticed
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep
- Nope, not yet!
2b. Tablet turns off during long periods of non-use/sleep
- Do you guys not use yours all day ;-) Hasn't happened to me.
2c. Tablet reboots randomly
- Nope.
2d. Tablet turns off randomly
- Nope.
3. Experiencing obviously weak wifi signals
- Nope, but I use commercial grade AP's. This picks up better than both my galaxy s and my acer laptop. No kidding! One room at work this is the only device that gets a signal. But, none of my AP's have N enabled.
4. GPS won't work without Wifi
- Haven't fully tested.
5. MicroSD not showing up after wake from sleep
- Nope.
6. Cell standby active and draining the battery
- Yes! Is it really though, or does HC attribute some other battery use to that because Android expects a radio?
7. Can't disable wifi?/can't turn off wifi/wifi turns itself on.
- Nope.
*** Add this: Market app crashes once every 10 pages or so.
*** Orientation of compass off / sluggish / wrong?

None. Though I have had two lockups, I don't attribute them to any of those but blame the apps or HC cpu/memory management. Definitely a HC issues.
3. Experiencing obviously weak wifi signals

Click to collapse
Negative. WiFi is strong and stable- tested.
4. GPS won't work without Wifi
Click to collapse
Tested and works fine for me. AGPS (Assisted GPS) needs wi-fi to gain first-fix and triangulate your position. If you are looking for a sat and aren't near or connected to a wi-fi hotspot, (or cell coverage around you is low) it may take a while to connect.
5. MicroSD not showing up after wake from sleep

I don't have a MicroSD so I can't answer this.
6. Cell standby active and draining the battery

While yes, it is active, I couldn't say for sure if it's draining my battery by any substantial amount. Another HC thing.
7. Can't disable wifi?/can't turn off wifi/wifi turns itself on
Click to collapse
Yes. Background Data / Sync supersedes the Wi-Fi setting/policy which they shouldn't. Most people aren't aware of this and of those, some may not use Background Data/Sync so don't have this happen - however - if you're like me and disable wi-fi manually on a regular basis then it's frustrating seeing it turn on from time to time because some other settings ignore the policy - including the disable wi-fi when screen is off policy. Definitely a HC bug.
8. Compass wrong/"off"
Click to collapse
Yes the compass is off for me but I use a separate app so I couldn't attribute this to the tablet or to the app. Is it suppose to be connected to GPS? Is it a standalone app using some kind of hardware in the tablet?

1. Backlight comes on randomly
-- yes it comes on every now and then by itself.
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep
-- yes this is very annoying
3. Experiencing obviously weak wifi signals
-- slightly weaker then my old iPad and every now and then it says no connectivity
4. GPS won't work without Wifi
-- don't care, won't use, rather use my phone.
6. Cell standby active and draining the battery
-- Yes, I see something like 7% drop in 3-4 hours of non usage.
9. Consistent Market Crashes
-- Yes and sometimes it says downloading but never installs.
1. Backlight comes on randomly
This happens to me and has been happening since I bought it a week ago.
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep
This problem didn't start happening to me until a couple days ago. Every morning now when I wake up and pick up the tablet the screen is frozen and I have to force a reboot. Definitely the most annoying issue so far.
3. Experiencing obviously weak wifi signals
Since I live in Australia the internet is really terrible anyway but the wifi signal is fine within my own network. No issue with this one.
9. Consistent market crashes
I have been seeing this one more often lately. The market will just close itself immediately after being started without an option to force close. Also, apps that I choose to download either won't download at all or won't install after downloading. This issue is quickly becoming the worst of all.
I love this tablet and i really want these issues to be resolved as soon as possible. Thanks!

1. Backlight comes on randomly
Happens a lot: Sometimes I wake up at night with the screen illuminating my room
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep +
Happened just once in three weeks.
2b. Tablet turns off during long periods of non-use/sleep
NEVER
2c. Tablet reboots randomly
NEVER
3. Experiencing obviously weak wifi signals
NEVER. Sorry about asking this, but do you guys knows how to set up the Wi-fi to use with the A500? Are you trying to use "N" 5ghz? Channels above 10? Because I have NO issue with wifi signal and it seems strange that my hardware is the only one that works perfectly.
4. GPS won't work without Wifi
NO PROBLEM! This is NOT a issue. Turned off the Wifi, selected airplane mode and used a app called "GPS Test". 6 Satelites found in 1 minute. Remember that GoogleMaps and any online GPS program (and those ho uses wi-fi to get a fix) won't work without wifi. Download GPS test and check if it can find the satelites without wifi and 3g. Mine did
5. MicroSD not showing up after wake from sleep
NEVER
6. Cell standby active and draining the battery +
Can't say that I have this problems since battery life seems fine to me. I loose 4% when I let the tablet on standby overnight with wifi on. One night I let it downloading a 300 mb file (over torrent) and in the next morning the batery was still 95%
7. Can't disable wifi?/can't turn off wifi/wifi turns itself on

1. Backlight comes on randomly
1.1 Happens ALOT
This definately happens to me at least a few times per day.
2a. Tablet freezes during long periods of non-use/during sleep
This happens to me maybe once per week. I think. The tablet itself doesn't freeze per se, but it stops responding to touch input (the clock continues to tick, and once it happened shortly after unlocking the device. Animations that were playing continued to play). Power cycling doesn't seem to resolve it. I usually have to use the reset button a few times to get it to boot responsive again.
2b. Tablet turns off during long periods of non-use/sleep

9. Consistent Market Crashes
Not consistent, but the market has crashed a bunch of times on me so far.
I submitted the list and called Acer.
A fix is supposed to be going out already for the screen coming on during sleep.

1.Web browser freezes and crashes intermittently.
2.Market crashes intermittently.
3.Screen turns on by itself problem known here too.
4.Very rarely, machine REBOOTS itself when playing with some app or in web browser and freeze occurs.
5.GPS signal FIX gets lost almost as fast as it got fixed.
6.Video Recording has some hiccups (like frames dropping) when recording.
7.Sound recording is something outta of a nightmare its like its a machine from the 60's
8.Unable to see external SD Card via USB cable from computer
9.VERY BIG ISSUE: Randomely erases contents of External MicroSD card (some work fine like 16GB Kingston Class 4) 32GB Kingston Class 4 does has this issue.
When copying files over (in any form) and restarting machine, much contents are gone but some remain. The storage shows the files still being there but its in the LOST Dir Folder in a million pieces. This has been reported by many people and can be found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119686 (ISSUE ALSO REPORTED TO HAPPEN IF YOU HAVE AN EXTERNAL HDD OR THUMBDRIVE CONNECTED WHILE RESTARTING)
Edit: I have report this issue to Acer about a week ago and they replied saying they are looking into the matter.
10. Screen not so responsive when surfing the net on certain page such as news with lots of images and flash contents (happens intermittently) seems to occur when CPU is overworking, but CPU should not be overworking since surfing is next to nothing.
Hope you havent sent it in yet.
Regards.

My only issue is the name. I'm so in the habbit if typing little-i when words start with "i" (iPad, iPod, iPhone) that iConia comes out too easily. Creeps me out. Besides, the secret to memorable product names is to keep them to two syllables. "Iconia" is a mouthful and too easy to spell wrong. Sorry, but thems is the facts. Or rather, JMHO.

I just noticed this morning that when I hit the power button the screen only dims now. I swear it used to shut off the display completely before today, and I know for certain that is how it worked on 1.6. This really is annoying, because now when I put it in my pocket the 3 buttons are constantly being depresses and they vibrate, which lights the display again. That coupled with this stupid lock screen that I have to try to open 3-4 times is really making me angry. Maybe it's just me thugh.....
I'm assuming you upgraded to 2.1?
I remember reading somewhere that someone had a similar issue after upgrading to 2.1 but then they re flashed 2.1 a different way and problem went away.
Same issue here, it really eats up my battery life, and I do end up pushing those soft keys all-too often... I am on 2.1 and that is definitely when the problem started, I'm going to try reflashing to see if I can eliminate the issue.
try the steps found here on streaksmart.com. She reports that she has no issues when its done that way. I don't have my streak yet but will follow these steps when i get it.
I had a similar problem before, only the screen would go off and on again and stay on!
Turns out it was an APP that done this.
It is possible an app is causing the problem.

I've been experimenting with what's been causing this on mine, and I noticed that sometimes wifi will not shut all the way off. It hangs at "Turning off..."
So I tried not letting it sleep with wifi on, I turn it on if I need it, then turn it off (really a big pain in the butt) but went two days with no "no sleep" problems.
Today I tried leaving wifi on all the time, not two hours later it happened.
Since it's not happening to everybody, I wonder if it has something to do with our wifi setups. Maybe the router brand, or the encryption type, or something?
Last night I powered off the phone before better. I have wifi on all the time and I never shut it off. Today though, I have had no issues with the sleep function. It's still mid afternoon so we'll see if it continues this way. If so I will explore the wifi solution as well.
I was having this problem and somehow this setting was wrong:
SETTINGS>>APPLICATIONS>>DEVELOPMENT>>STAY AWAKE
mine was checked and we all know what that mean. Check yours to be sure if your not up for flashing again. Just a thought in case you overlooked this...

Yes, it means the screen will not time out and go off when it's being charged, but you can still turn it off, and mine wasn't plugged in when I couldn't turn it off.
I don't think this is related to what I've been seeing, but thanks.
It seems that Bluetooth did it today. I was fine all day going black on sleep with power button, but once I switched on wireless to connect to my car stereo it never went off again. Even if I turn off the wireless I have to shut down and reboot.

Yes, and I couldn't turn it off once the "screen dim bug" took hold. Today I've rebooted and left Bluetooth OFF and Wireless ON and have not had an issue all day long, and that's making calls, using 3G, wireless and running a pile of apps. I think I can live with no Bluetooth until the next release.
Pete
I don't think it's BT. I think it's wifi not recovering properly from sleep mode.

Fair call. However, I've now had BT off for 6 hours and I'm using 3G, wireless and USB transfers and it hasn't hiccuped yet. This is the longest I've had with no screen dim bug.
I did notice that when I walked out to the car, the Streak could still "see" my home wireless network, then starting the car and the BT pairing and connecting is when the screen dim bug came back.
Maybe it's when both are run at the same time and both are connected/paired?

I agree its looks like its a wifi issue. I always keep my bluetooth off and it still did it.
I got mine fixed... but the problem is i did a bunch of steps and now cant figure out which one actually fixed it. its been running great for 12hrs now.
What I did, since I noticed that wifi sometimes didn't sleep or wake itself up properly all the time (which i think is what's affecting our Streak sleeping), was turn off the wifi sleep. In other words when my device shuts off wifi stays active.
However, I then used "Tasker" from the Market and setup two profiles. When the screen goes off it shuts off 3G, wifi and autosync. Then when the screen comes on it turns on 3g/wifi, waits 20 secs and enables autosync (which then initiates a mail/calendar/contacts sync).
This has worked perfectly, and I get mad good battery life to boot. Now this means I don't get mail/updates (facebook, weather, etc - still get calls and txts obviously) but for me it's not a big deal especially for the battery life.
I may eventually setup more Tasker events to duplicate "Juice Defender" and poll every half hour (3G only, when screen is off only) to get my updates, but for now it's been working great.
I also setup profiles so if I'm not where I have wifi pairings it shuts down wifi. Also if it detects I'm connected via wifi (at home for instance) it disables my lock screen. I also have it set to only start GPS for apps that need it (Maps, Navigation, Places, etc) and that helps save battery too.
Tasker is an awesome app for $3.99. It has a steep learning curve, but there are enough walk-throughs available to teach you how to do the basics.

Found the fix on Modaco. Have a look at the last page of the thread called "2.1 Bugs ....., Add what you find please....."
I never knew there was an "Advanced" menu for WiFi!
yeah that is not it. I also have mine set to never time out so does that mean it will never shut off either? Anyway, it keeps happening through the day. Wifi and bluetooth do seem to have something to do with it, but I need them both on all the time so the only thing I can do is reboot. Then it is good for a couple hours. Are the any apps that have a reboot? That's one thing I miss on the iPhone.
So I set the WiFi sleep policy to "Never when plugged in".
I.e. screen off = wifi off (on battery), and screen off = wifi on (on charge/plugged in).
Just want to save battery, even though battery life is already pretty good, especially coming from my 'charge every night' HTC Desire!
Problem is, it decides to change itself to "Never", even if I am not using the tablet. (checked by going back into the setting and finding the "Never" radio checked.) Can anyone else verify if they have the same issue?

Thanks for the reply.
For me it seems to change by itself after quite a while. (like overnight)
So, have you always had yours on a policy other than 'Never'?
So I've decided to set mine to the same setting and my setting sticks. However when mine does go to sleep on battery and I wake it up, sometimes it never reconnects to the wifi or rescans. So I am forced to turn off wifi manually and backon for it to reconnect.
Anyone else ever have that issue?

I occasionally experience the same issue... I also have a thunderbolt which never had the problem and neither did my XOOM...

you need to set your wifi setting to Static IP instead of DHCP. This will resolve your issue. I had the same issue and now its fixed.

Seems to be a common problem for any device with a Broadcom 4330.
Broadcom's policy towards open source has always sucked, and crap like this is the result.
I leave the WIFI open all the time...
I have the same issue. Wifi sleep policy changes by itself to "Never", draining the battery in just a couple of hours.

Turning off WiFi in sleep mode doesn't work
My 10.1 will not turn off WiFi when the tablet goes to sleep, per my selection to turn WiFi off wen the screen turns off. WiFi remains on when the tablet is in sleep mode--I can ping it successfully from another computer in my home network anytime. I want to disconnect whenever the screen turns off for a couple of reasons: 1) to cut down on WiFi traffic overall (I have a limited monthly data allowance) and 2) to keep some of the snoop sites from gathering information from my tablet.
3.2, rooted, kernel 2.6.36.4-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #1 (overclocked)
Any suggestions?
Put it in airplane mode when you aren't using it. I have a button on the home screen to turn on airplane mode. Disables all radios, and really saves battery.
Airplane mode did it. The app I installed is Auto Airplane Mode. It simply puts it in airplane mode when I press the on/off button to turn the screen off (sleep) and takes it right out, usually by the time I swipe the screen, when I turn it on again. Works every time, no problems. This is much better than trying to debug the original problem, which sounds like it must be common to a lot of phones and tablets.
Thanks, Dave

Nice, I didn't know there was an app for that. Will save me a press when I sleep the tab!
so after a couple of months of reading reviews and post by owners, i decided to pull the trigger last night.
after a 3-4 hour charge, i jumped right into it.
+very fast boot up.
i played with Honeycomb 3.0 before updating it to 3.1. i noticed that 3.1 had bootup & keyboard sounds, while 3.0 had none.
+the chassis is really nice. i loved the look. reminds me of my HTC HD2. rock solid.
+YouTube plays nice. i can already tell that i'm gonna be using this for mainly YouTube. but it really sucks that some videos won't play because it considers the A500 a "mobile device".
+web browsing is good so far. it even ran southparkstudios.com
uhm...that's all i can think of right now for pluses...
...and here's my cons with the tablet:
-it loses wireless connection when the screen goes to "sleep". but this apparently is a VERY common bug and issue with A500 owners. very annoying that i have to restart the wireless to get connection back. this is the main issue i have with it so far. my phone doesn't lose connection to the internet with the screen goes to "sleep".
-there's a dead pixel, but that's easily fixed by exchanging it for a new unit.
-lots of my games that i would normally use on my phone are completely useless because it still maintains a phone sized image. OR it just force closes.
-No Netflix app. although i read somewhere on the internet that there's supposed to be an official Netflix app coming out. but there's no way to confirm the validity of that statement.
-No Hulu
-No dedicated Facebook App
i still have lots to try out still like the HDMI out, the functionality of the USB ports, Divx/MPG/Avi compatibility, and MP3 sound quality. plus i want to see if i can install an NES/SNES emulator and play it via a bluetooth gamepad.
i noticed there's LOTS of ports...which means more possibly entry points for dust. which can be bad. ACER (or someone else) should make plastic/rubber port bootcovers to remedy that.
i haven't tried to install a custom ROM. nor have i tried to root it.
i'm looking forward to the 3.2 update. i'm hoping that'll fix all (or at least some) of the cons.
As for the internet connection, mine with stock rooted US rom (.13) doesn't do that. I have always internet after sleeping.
For the phone apps no scaling you can use Spare Parts and uncheck the compatibility box.
Facebook you can side load it, it works nice on my tablet.
Hulu is a common problem with all the tablets, you need a fixed flashplayer apk.
Hope it helps you
Root the device, for now try virtuous Xoom with 3.2 honeycomb. Once rooted netflix is fairly easily installed. Also, you can set the browser as "desktop". Mine has never lost wifi for any reason other than range.
My a500 have never lost WiFi during sleep.
There is a Tablet app "Friend Me" for Facebook and it is very good!
"Spare Parts" with "compatibility mode" disabled will make all apps full screen!
Never had a problem with a game (except those made or specific hardware)
Hulu and Netflics I can't comment! Living in Europe!

+1 to that - this is not a bug, this is a setting you can change, and is documented in your user manual.
Click apps. Settings. Choose the "wireless and network" menu. Click wifi settings. Click "Wifi disconnect policy" and modify it.
"Bug" fixed.
yikes i almost forgot about netflix
Netflix works great on the a500 - you need to root via Iconiaroot (assuming you are using 3.1) and then simply follow the instructions located here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
Just follow the instructions - either use root explorer with system mounted r/w or snag Acer recovery installer from market, install cwm, apply the patch.zip and you are done. Netflix looks great on a 10.1
hmm... seems like the consensus is that everyone doesn't have that issue. maybe my situation was a one time only thing.
but let me explain to you what i was doing when it happened:
i got tired of the Market app on the A500. but i'm also tired of the Market app on my HD2 as well. the new updated Market doesn't show you everything, it just shows you like the top ten for every category. anyways... so i put the tablet down (i didn't turn it off or put it in stand-by) and sat in front of my desktop and used the web browser version of Market. i probably spent about 15 minutes or so sending apps to install onto my device. when i went back to check on the tablet, the screen was off. i pressed the power button to bring the screen back on and the Wi-Fi was showing that it was 'OFF'. the only way to bring it back was to restart the Wi-Fi.
so yeah... it was strange. but like i said, maybe it was a one time event.
maybe i'll just set the timeout for higher like 60 mins.

Nope.
You issue is a result of your settings. If you want your a500 to keep a active wifi connection while the screen is sleeping, you will need to go into your settings menu and tell your a500 to not drop the connection while the screen is off.
ahhh... cool. i'll definitely be playing with the settings tonight then. thanks.
Wifi is my only complaint so far and I am experiencing the same thing. Mine is set to never disconnect wifi, and it doesn't. It shows wifi connected the whole day under battery usage. However, when the screen goes off it seems to drop the wifi and I must disconnect/reconnect to get it working again when I turn it on. Not every time but it is frequent.
To be clear:
When I turn the screen on, wifi is unusable until I go into settings and toggle it off and back on.

Are your wifi settings -> wifi disconnect settings set to not drop the connection when screen is off? Screen set to never sleep will not keep a inactive wifi connection alive - you need to go into wifi and networks catagory of settings and modify the disconnect policy.
Yes I know, sorry I meant never disconnect wifi not sleep.

I am confused.
Are you saying you have wifi disconnect policy set to "Never disconnect", but are having issues holding a wifi connection after turning the screen off?
Please provide more information, very hard to troubleshoot something this vague.
There is a difference between WiFi turning off and WiFi disconnecting.
Here is what I'm seeing on mine:
1) With my tab on, WiFi connected, browser working, I can ping my tab from my desktop.
2) Shut down browser, put tab to sleep, wait an unknown timeframe (lets say 15 minutes).
3) Wake tab, see WiFi is still connected, do nothing else. Start pings from desktop in a continuious loop, pings all fail, despite WiFi connected on tab.
4) Start browser on tab, browser connects to test website, and suddenly pings respond on desktop.
So, it appears that while the WiFi on the tab stays connected, it does not actually go 'active' and start handling data until an app needs it, such as the browser.

No shortage of apps that can work around this - I don't understand why you want a network connection when nothing is using it, but to each their own
https://market.android.com/search?q=wifi+keep+alive&so=1&c=apps
The wifi issue you describe is not a bug. It is an android feature to reduce battery drain. If an app or connection is not in use, it is cached until a process is called.then the wifi connection becomes active. You can disable wifi sleep policy but you will see a battery drain if you set it that way.
Remember the two most important parts of a tablet are the screen and the battery. A poor screen or poor battery life will kill sales for that tab faster than apple can draw up a lawsuit.

Well described.
Not sure why a user would want to bypass this - the moment an app requests data, as long as wifi disco policy is set - network connection is set to active.

Untrue. I have used a number of applications that when launched, do not 'activate' the connected WiFi. Two for example, 'QuickSSHd', which is a SFTP and SSH server, and 'IP Webcam' a webcam server.
Wake up the Tablet, and see that the WiFi shows a connection. Fire up either of these server applications, and try to connect to them. No go...
Now go fire up the browser, which of course makes an 'outbound' connection, the WiFi 'activates' at that time, and suddenly both of the aforementioned server applications can be connected to.
In other words, when the 'conected' WiFi is asleep, it takes an 'outbound' app to wake up the wifi. An app that is waiting for an incoming connection never sees one until an outbound app wakes up the wifi.
NOTE: This behavior is NOT seen on my Android Gingerbread phone, running the same apps with the same sleep settings.

It is not the video seeing the tablet as a mobile device.
It is your settings.
You can fix it very easily.
2 things to do.
open your browser
in the URL window (address bar) type about:debug and hit enter
it seems nothing happens but it adds a debug in settings
Next
On the very top right click the 4 lines with an arrow.
Click settings and on the left side click "advanced"
click "Viewing Mode" and set it to "desktop.
Now on the left click debug
click UAString and click desktop.
That's it.
Make sure you haven't saved any bookmarks from the mobile sites or they will still open from the bookmark as mobile sites.
/I posted this in another thread but I'm desperate for help at this point.
At one point last week, my Nexus 7 had been running on eight hours from a full charge, screen had only been on for 1:15 and Android OS had kept the device awake for almost five hours, and used 50 minutes of CPU total. My battery was at 71%.
After receiving advice to do a factory reset, I did so on Friday and my battery life improved dramatically over the weekend. Android OS was using a much less percentage and keeping the device awake less. My battery lasted over two days with +4 hours of screen time. But once I commuted to work this morning, my problems started again. Android OS' percentage used and time kept awake shot up and my battery is down to 61% in 22 hours (1:11 of screen time) and Android OS has kept the device awake for over 6 hours.
Is this an operating system problem? Does anyone else commute to work and use Google Now for public transit updates? I have Latitude updating off but otherwise all GPS, etc. is turned on.
I am absolutely baffled and would love some help. Thanks in advance.

That seems to be the culprit. Try turning ALL options in the Location services off (Google's location service, GPS satellites, Location & Google search) and turn them only on when you need them.
This did the trick for me.
Otherwise use the tools CPU Spy and BetterBatteryStats (both available in the Google Play store) to get a better idea what exactly is causing the battery drain on your device.

Thanks for the response. That's probably my last resort. I mean, I bought this device because of features on Jelly Bean such as Google Now, which relies heavily on location services, and I have to turn all of them off? That disappoints me.
It's interesting to me that I had all of these services on at home over the weekend, yet it did not have this effect on my battery. Only because my device leaves the house should it freak out. That's a serious flaw.

This may or may not help, but I too was having battery problems but narrowed it down to being only when I was away from any Wi-Fi connection whether I was connected or not. I think there is a bug whereby if the tablet cannot establish your location from nearby Wi-Fi access points, rather than giving up it just keeps on trying to the detriment of your battery. I solved this issue by using an app called Automateit to instruct my Wi-Fi to turn off when the screen is off (as it would be the majority of the time while travelling). These kinds of apps allow all kinds of qualifiers, for example my Wi-Fi doesn't turn off if Spotify is in focus as I am streaming music using Wi-Fi. Give this a go and see if it helps.

Thanks. When I'm at work it stays connected to the same WiFi access point as far as I know.
Here's an update to the situation: I looked at my data usage over the last few days. Over the weekend, Android OS used virtually no data. Since then, it has used about 50 MB of data in the background. I work at a university so maybe it's trying to connect with other access points on campus even when I'm in my office. Any ideas? Thanks.
Edit: At work, the down arrow on my WiFi signal is constantly on, like it's always doing something. At home, not.
My screen randomly turns on and sits at the lock screen for a few seconds for no apparent reason. There are no pending notifications, etc. I assume there might be a rogue app causing this, but I don't have that many installed and even less apps doing any background tasks. Any idea on how to find the culprit?
I found this bug report where some apps are mentioned, but I'm not running any of them.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39625
On the Galaxy Nexus this issue was sometimes caused by a flaw in the micro-USB connector. I sincerely hope that is not the case with the Nexus 4.
I noticed that the phone wakes up whenever it reconnects to Wi-Fi. I was changing some router settings last night and I constantly saw the phone waking up shortly after the router rebooted. However, this is not the only scenario where it does it.
Mine has done the same, no idea why, only seen it the once, but it certainly happened, sitting three feet away from me, and suddenly Bingo! its on.
Mine wakes every few minutes. Certain apps (tasker, facebook etc) and syncing seem to cause it to happen more often but even if I disable most apps it still happens. I've been unable to identify the source with better battery stats. It happens bone stock and on CM10.1. I'm still getting better battery life than my GNexus but it's maddening.
Mine too. It will do it a few times in succession then be still for a while before starting again. No apps open and google sync off.

So my Nexus 4 doesn't want to go to sleep.
- I have sleep set to 15 seconds
- Dream is off (just in case)
It just stays on. It doesn't matter if it's on the the lock screen or at the home screen. I'm guessing some app is keeping it awake. It just started last night, but I don't think I have installed any new apps. Maybe it from an update.
solved
My phone's screen also used to wake up randomly. it was very annoying, especially at midnight
finally, I found out the reason by using "Wakelock detector" app which is freely available in market.
here is XDA thread about WLD: WLD at XDA Thread
the cause of problem was ad Notification, it was holding "full wakelock" (you can see it in screenshot)
good Luck!
Refer Wakelock Detector at XDA
