[Q] Navigation missing from maps - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I don't know why I just noticed this but I have the newest version of maps on my cm7 n64 and there is no navigation. I know we don't have GPS on board but since we can hook up our GPS phones and other devices I thought it would still be availible. Is this something I can fix or what?

Sorry to bring up this dead topic but I was wondering if anyone might have an answer. Do I need to find a navigation apk or do I need to do something to activate it cause I would really like the Google maps navigation app on my nook. Or is it just impossible to get navigation on the nook?

With gps on, start Maps. Long press a destination and tap the bubble that pops up. Then tap Directions, then tap Get Directions or tap the up-pointing blue arrow.

With all the made skillz here at XDA.
Do you think someone can whip up an app that when you hold the Search button, instead of picking voice search, it can open up the Camera app?
gracias

I believe long presses are handled by the kernal so it should be possible but I am not sure how.
Currently, long press on the search opens google talk...maybe long press on the menu or something?
Good idea though

You get the option for powerstrip or chompsms to take over that button.
I would love an app to launch whatever you want, like the camera or the phone app.
Surely this should be super easy to make

I would like it to be used for voice input in emails/texts. The tiny mic button is hard to hit on the Android keyboard.
I use LaunchPro and setup the app drawer swipe up gesture to open camera, works well for me.
great suggestion.. using that now
Use the android market app called 'Button Shortcut' i made the long-press search open camera instead of google search.

I don't know about launcher pro but I do exactly the same in ADW. I took LP off after I discovered this in ADW, I never saw this in LP, did I miss it?

Press and hold one of the apps in the app drawer until the menu pops up. Select 'Swipe Gesture Action'

I took the advice. Since I already had handcent SMS assigned to the button and voice search had been assigned before that I got a nice little menu out of it. I think its more useful w/o selecting a default

Integrating google nav in car panel

Hi All,
somehow I managed to get google nav integrated with the car panel on the DHD, so you get to choose google nav or premium nav when choosing a destination. Have since hard reset, and can't find this option anymore... anyone know how to do this?
Thanks.
I think you need to go to Settings > Location > Integrate Google Navigation.

I've been trying to figure this out too. The solution above doesn't work for me, the HTC nav is used instead.
Anyone have a soulution?
Yep, sorry, got that wrong. I seem to remember the first time i went tot he car panel it asked me or something like that? Can't find an option to use Google Maps in the car panel.
Also, the Locations app or whatever it is called doesn't appear to accept postcodes?
Hi,
Found it as you said under settings -> location -> Integrate Google Navigation. Now I get the choice when I pick a footprint.
Shame the footprint section is pretty rubbish.
Thanks!
Close or keep open?
Cheers,

close car panel, its under main device settings off the app menu.
hey, this is semi related question,
while using HTC Locations I have noticed (disappointingly) you can not search using postcodes!
but you can in Google Maps so my ideal scenario would be to search with google maps and then navigate using HTC locations premium navigation.
unless any1 has found a work around? I thought maybe the integration would allow this however it appears to work in the opposite way.
Thank you.

I've started a separate thread on this Navigator Maps - No Postcode entry? as I feel it deserves it's own discussion.
This is a major fail for any navigation software....
Hi for postcode navigation
you can input postcode in locations search field and press search icon
only input data is regular search
input data and tap search icon is advanced search

Nope, nothing. Can you be more specific on how you are entering the data?
Edit - looking for PE22 0TU for example
OK, so if you enter a postcode (PE22 0TU) it won't find it. You then have to enter a partial postcode with no spacing (PE220), it won't find it.
But if you then press the blank result in the screen, not the search field, the bit that has an exclamation point followed by "Search for xxxx" it then comes up wiht a list of postcodes.
However, it is not the full list of postcodes and there are many it does not know about - PE22 0TU for one.
Absolute rubbish.

Leave open as follow up questions usually come around, in this and other topics.
Maybe you are a bit trigger happy on the lock button imo.

Street view?

Sorry if this is a silly question but I understand Street view is already installed on the Nexus 7, however, I can't seem to work out how to use it. Where is it? Thanks for any pointers!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Good question, I can't find it either. Nexus 7 can't be selected in Google Play for the Street View app, which means it's installed.
From the map, if you press and hold on a location and then press on the popup, there is an option to select street view. Then you can drag the little guy on the bottom to wherever you want to be on the street.

Yes. It's either the layers option or the menu option once you're in street view. You'll see compass.

[Q] Removing Google Now from the home button

I don't have any use for Google Now nor do I use the built-in Google search function and I'm trying to find a way to remove the shortcut thing that pops up when I long-press the home button on the navigation bar. It's actually infuriating the amount of times I pull it up by mistake.
I am running Paranoid Android 2.5 ROM and the navigation bar options specifically states that the home button shortcut can not be changed in those options like the back/recent/menu buttons can.
I have deleted the googlequicksearchbar.apk from the system apps folder and that at least causes it to just bork up and stops it trying to load everything up when I end up selecting Google Now by mistake but it's still a pain in the ass to have that shortcut there.
I've searched around and the only things I found covering this were disabling it on the lockscreen which is different from what I am trying to achieve.
Has anyone had any success on the PA ROM in regards to removing the Google Now shortcut from the Home button?
Uninstall the google app.

Which google app is that? There is no Velvet.apk to be found and there's nothing in Titanium Backup's list that I can see that looks like it would be that either. I see google voice search and google search. The latter which is no longer present as I deleted the searchbox apk already.

Lol the Google search app. But I guess u don't wanna do that. Other than that u got no option. Except maybe get an older Google search apk n install,u know from stock ICS gapps? Then u would have Google search n no popup.
THIS. IS. NEXUS.
Have you tried to disable Google Search app in Settings->Apps?
Worked on my Galaxy Nexus with stock rom.
You'll probably have to kill and restart Launcher process to get rid of the grey bar at the top of the screen.

I don't think you have to do any of that. Go to settings and go to system settings, hardware keys, or navigation. Go to the home button and change it to none.

I've manged to get Google now off the Nexus 7
After hours fiddling I found the answerr
You go into settings, click on app, and then scroll to the reach 'all'
You will see Google Search open it and hit all buttons which cut the cache and another 2 buttons which I d'ont remeber. Anyway click all the buttons there.
Then you will find that where the google search box was there is now a grey block in its place.
Close down the phone, and when you turn it on again the grey box is gone your sexy home page is back!
I really don't undertand the minds of Google Now. The annoying pop notes never told me nothing I needed to know. Google should at least give an easy option to turn the thing off. I fed with things being installed in phones which you can't deleat.
To those wanting to disable search, that's ok, it is your tablet and you can do with it as you like. But, is it really so hard to not hold down the home button? I use search every day multiple times and find it extremely useful. You can turn off any or all cards and even turn off Now and you get the search screen without any cards. If you gave it a fair try you might fine it useful. Others have posted how to disable it, so the OP has his question answered, but I encourage people to learn and use search.
I disable it because I use my nexus for gaming. So I like it keep my background processes to a minimum. I can only assume others do it for much the same reason. If you don't use it why have it running?

You can kinds of disable it using SwipeLaunch Disabler.
https:/play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.sld.SwipeLaunchDisabler
Go to settings, apps, all, scroll down to Google+ and disable it.
That will just show the "old google search" when you use the home button.
If you want it back go to playstore search Google+ and enable it.
My question is, is there a way to add shortcuts to that menu?
Maybe replace it with this: Home Button Launcher
You can add shortcuts and it's Open Source.

I'm using Paranoid Android v2.50 on my Samsung GS3... I found it irritating that sometimes I would hit the "menu" button too long on my phone by accident (normally when it was in landscape view) and that would bring up the Google Search page every time... here is what to do:
1) Head to "Settings" > "Interface" > "System" > "Hardware keys"
2) Tick "Enable custom actions", the options below will light up for you to edit.
3a) In my case, I had to edit "Menu key (long press)" and set it to "No action"
3b) In your case it would be "Home key (long press)" and then set that to "No action".
That will stop the Google Search feature popping up when you accidentally hold the button down too long

I think that is okay to learn how to use it, but for me it is a bit annoying everytime I play MinecraftPE. The proximity of down button and home button is so close that I always end up presing home button then search pops out. I am on stock rom 4.1.1 device with soft keys and notification all bundled up.

Offline maps

Hello
I tried offline maps . I have read 10 different websites with instructions, but i cant see the button on my LG G2. Is there a trick that i am missing?
Thanks

Its tricky. You search for the area you want to save the map for.. So in Maps, type in "Kentucky" for example . then tap the info bar and you'll see "save map for use offline"

Everything comes up peryour picture except the save offline!
What's going on?

Try pressing the search bar then swipe to the bottom of the list that drops down. There should be written "save for offline maps" or sth else
unfortunately nothing comes up! and i am going for a trip in a couple of days and i cannot do anything..

This is how you save an offline map:
Go to the area you want to save (even the zoom should be adjusted based on how much you want to save).
Tap the search bar and write "ok maps" and press search.
Feel the magic.
