Hi,
Since I started using custom ROMs (I've tried miniCM and Floyo) I can't get Google Maps 5+ to work in vector mode, nor offline. The 3D capabolities are also gone. They all worked in the stock FW.
Anybody knows the reason and/or the solution?
I've tried this but it doesn't work for the X8.
Does this other solution work? (it's a rather old post, that's why I'm asking, also it for Maps 5.0)
Thanks!
Bump!
Am I the only one concerned about this?
Thank you!
Solved!! (sort of...)
Elelinux doesn't have this problem! Google Maps works as it should be.
Now guess which is favourite ROM... Developers should take a look at what's going wrong with the others.

after upgrading the Google Maps stopped working here!
but I found the solution by following the links and making the following way!
reinstall xrecovery with flashtool v0.2.9.1,reboot end includ this line or change value in /system/build.prop
ro.opengles.version=313072
maps updated, working compass
May I ask why is the xRecovery update needed?
I tried editing build.prop with the miniCM ROMs, but it didnt work. I will do as you say, but I would really like to know the connection with xRecovery...

if not reinstall will not be able to change the build.pro, because after reboot it back to the original.
Thanks! Now I guess I will be able to update Google Maps in any other ROM (though I have no intention of leaving Elelinux in the short term)
HOWEVER, once I updated, Navigation stopped working saying that 'it is not supported in my country' (Chile)... just the way it was with the original (Eclair) Firmware. I really don't use navigation, but now I see that what is happening here is the Google Maps app included in Elelinux has some kind of 'medication' that overrides both the vector/offline thing and the regional restrictions of Navigation.

Hello,
Can't download Google Maps 4.4 from the Market, it's not visible in Serbia.
Any volunteers for uploading?
Big thanks!
mate, just wait a bit for mr brut to come out with 4.4 instead.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
Google maps 4.4.0 and brut-appmod seem to co-exist btw.
I was happily using Brut-appmod (great mod, btw!), but noticed significant memory leak I couldn't trace. It went down to 40 MB for no apparent reason.
Was it the Brut mod or something else? I don't know, but I've recently wiped clean my HTC Desire and wouldn't push my luck further.

Hello,
Before the brut is released, You can download and install market enabler
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/downloads/list
With this program you can change your location (like US) and download all software you want.
PS : i Think you need root access.
I guess this is legal so I've uploaded it here. It's on my dropbox so I can't guarantee you how long it will be on there.
If this is not legal, please remove it mods.

Yes, I've already considered that, but am still not ready to root. This is my first Android phone and I don't have enough experience for rooting.
AppBrain app does great job for everything else, but not for Maps.
Thanks for the help!
Thanks

I encountered the same problem, my memory is 50MB now. anyone can tell whether it's a bug of brut maps?
I need your help guys and devs for one problem. I had to downgrade from wildhero (2.3.3 sense) to 2.1 cuz I needed more stable rom for a few days. I choosed one and flashed it, but the market didn't show most of the featured apps, like Skype, My Tracks, Google Sky Map, Xda devs, Tapatalk and many more. I used Search and it's the same - they're not in the results.I thought its location problem but it isn, cuz after a lot flashing different roms I haven't any problems till now. Tried 3 different 2.1 sense roms - its the same - same missing apps. Now when I flashed back this wildhero 2.3.3 sense rom (ver1.2.1) everything is fine , like it should be. I think its 2.3.3 Sense problem , somehow it restricts old android`s version market.. its wired... could you help me somehow ?? please its important to know !!
It is probably due to the fact that those apps need a newer API so it restricts you from downloading it to your phone with an older firmware.
BTW, you said you use Skype? Do you start getting it getting choppy after 30 seconds? I am trying to use it with Fusion (offshoot of Froyo) on my HTC Hero and am finding that happening. What OS are you using?
Thanks,
A
Yeah, mate , I supposed so, but I'm looking for solution. Skype is running well, even very well surprisingly, I'm using WildHero 1.2.1 now, but with older roms like VillianRom12 and 13 was running well too.

P.S. I noticed that when I search for something , in this case were Skype, Sky Map, Astro file manager, and few other apps - the results are all in japanese, korean or chinese language and nothing to do with the searched word .. isnt that strange .. ??? I'm from Bulgaria , far away from these countries.
hmm i had the same prob to when i tried wildhero 2.3.3 no market and gmail etc
i donwloaded a rom with gapps and they didnt show up when i flashed the apps when i downloaded a rom with gapps included i didnt had the problem so maybe you should try a rom with gapps included

Hi Guys!
Good Morning XDA-Dev Team! Im new to this site and I kinda need help.
I just bought my Xperia X8 2 days ago I tried installing some custom roms on it.
Im new to this kind of thing and here's the story.
I was using the stock 2.1 on my Xperia and I rooted it and installed xRecovery.
I then installed the custom rom FroyoBread v023 and everything was great!
Now I wanted to try the GingerDX v19 but it needed the CWM ROM.
That's where I started to get confused.
I dont know how to install the CWM ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119456
I installed it using xRecovery (AMEND) but im not sure if I did it correctly.
After that, I then installed GingerDX v019 and it was successful!
but the Android Market was missing and I dont know where to find it.
I did a full wipe, wipe cache, dalvik cache, battery wipe in CWM but still same issue.
Have I done something wrong? Did I miss something?
Thanks in advance for all the replies guys!
I really appreciate it.
have you already logged in to your google account?
it usually showed up after that
You need to sign in to your google account.
If it's still not there then just search for the apk and install it.

Just to rule out some rogue app messing things up, you should do a superwipe ext 4 , reinstall a rom along with gapps and use a new login once you first boot up so that none of your market apps download from the market. You can create a new gmail account just to test. Once you boot up with the new account, don't install any apps except Google Maps, especially don't install any gps related apps. Open Maps first while you are outdoors to see if you get a gps signal.
Also remember to stand outside (clear GPS signal possibility) around 5mins after all those wipes.
I had the same issue and set my phone to outside for 10min with GPS Status on and no screen saver -> worked like a charm.
Hi masters,
Device:NOTE 3--N900w8 Canada (Bell)
Today I tried flash the rom [OFFICIAL][Nougat 7.1.1][OMS] Resurrection Remix [09.03.2017],and flash in the ARM-7.1- GAPP[STOCK].Everything is good. But you know the Gapp-Stock include all google play service apps,I dont need that. Then I did the full wipe and flash the same rom again+GAPP-Pico.And then that bug happened. Google play store works ok,system works good, but just the button G in the main screen doesent work, whatever slick it or slide it to right all doesent work.I know this just a google search button,(it works with the rom+Gapp-stock) if I ignore it,I still can use the system good, but I cant remove this button,it always there and I cant use lt.it makes me unhappy So anyone can help me to solve this problem? Thank you very much!!!!!!!!:highfive:

I think the Pico package doesn't include the "Google" app, which is what you need for that "G Button" to work. I think downloading it from the Play Store would fix it, but I'm not sure.
If you're trying to get rid of this button entirely you should try a new launcher app.
