I don't think you're supposed to unzip it. Just put it on the SD card.

I just had this happen to my phone. Once you get the PU error there is no fixing it as I understand. I called T-mobile to have them replace my phone. Supposed to be here Thursday.

Downgrade 2.1 > 1.5

Anyone ran the RUU and successfully downgraded this phone? If so how did you do it?
Tryed all the old methods to no success.
Are you the guy who commit Hero suicide for the benefit of the community?... Or have i made that up?
If you aren't,.... WHY ON EARTH DID YOU INSTALL 2.1 RUU?!??!?!?!?!!?
If you are,... BRAVO!!!!
Ok.... You've probably tried all this, but these are the things I would try if in your possition,...
Try installing custom recovery using flashrec latest?... if fail, try an older version of flashrec, 1.1.2 i think?
Fail?
Try flashing recovery through adb ...
Amon_RA said:
Code:
Copy recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img to the root of your sdcard
Boot into your current custom recovery (boot while holding HOME)
Connect your Hero via usb to your pc/mac/...
adb shell
$su (not required if you have root already)
#mount -a
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img

Fail?
Amon_RA said:
via fastboot + adb -> In case you don't have a custom recovery, so when you get signature fail errors
Code:
adb shell reboot bootloader
fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
adb shell mount /sdcard
adb push recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
adb shell reboot

NO?
Then I would start researching to see if you can modify the RUU and maybe put in the boot images from a 1.5 ROM to put into the 2.1 RUU?
.... try flashing the system.img,boot.img and recovery.img from a 1.5 RUU through adb or fastboot then try downgrading again.
Check this out for instructions on how to extract stuff from an RUU,....

Correct. I did install the RUU as I want to keep trying for fixes to downgrade.
Just for info, tried replacing few files in the rom.zip but now it comes up with signage errors. Theres no way to sign that file.
I do have some ideas, but I'm not hopeful.
I'm on my phone ATM so I will tell you them when I get home.
Could you boot into hboot and tell me what you see? (volume down + power)

The fake ota method wont work then
No devs will really try & do this, because you can still downgrade from the ota which is what users will have done. sorry.

You can only do a fake ota if HTC updated the stock recovery & spl but they haven't so you can't do it.

So are you saying he still has the older recovery and spl?
.... would he not be able to update recovery and spl to newer one (by extracting from new ROM and flash through adb/fastboot), then try your "fake ota" method?
EDIT...I HAVE NO TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE WHATSOEVER... PLEASE DONT SLAG ME IF IM NOWHERE NEAR CLOSE TO A SOLUTION.
so ur saying that those who recieved the OTA update can downgrade back to 1.5? please do tell me how!! im on european hero and got both updates OTA and ive tried using the ROM.zip and then the volume down and powering up, it tries to read the ROM.zip but says that it doesn't detect any img files, i have opened the ROM.zip file and checked for the img files and they are all there

use the Europe 2.73.405.5 ruu from http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Hero
where do u see a europe RUU? i found only ASIA RUSSIA and WWE
and ive tried downloading the official RUU from HTC support site with my device S/N, that was from the european HTC site...
Cant hurt to try the wwe version i suppose.
HTC have done good this time.
Methods attempted:
Run old RUU using Goldcard and hope it flashes - FAILS
Extract rom.zip from RUU, rename as HEROIMG.ZIP and HBOOT - FAILS
Try to send the zip via fastboot update - FAILS
Get adb access in recovery - FAILS (HTC have disabled this)
Unrevoked root exploit for 2.1 - FAILS
Edit the rom.zip/HEROIMG.zip and pretend that an old RUU is a new version - sigfails
Methods not attempted, which I doubt will work:
Extract rom.zip from RUU, rename as update.zip, try and flash through HTC stock recovery.
Try to use some OTA update.zips offically signed by HTC to downgrade.
Methods which MAY work:
ring0 exploit was fixed after the 2.6.29 kernel, if HTC/Android haven't patched this, I could compile it using the NDK/ Arm Compiler and hope for the best.
hope for a race condition by adb recovery (see: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/adb_in_recovery )
hotswap the sdcard during update.zip signature verification. I found this out here: http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/adb_in_recovery

pc10mg wont let me boot into recovery

I'm assuming you either just rooted or flashed a new Radio, after that you always need to remove or rename that on your SD card before going into recovery. It will always stop at Bootloader with a pc10img on your SD Card
is there any way to remove this pc10img file from my sdcard in the bootloader screen?

Not as far as I know, you're going to have to either boot into your ROM and edit it or remove the SD Card and mount it on your computer to edit/remove it.

just reboot into the ROM and remove the PC10IMG from the SDcard, or pull the battery and put your SDcard into your PC and remove it.
Or (assuming you have eng hboot) boot to fastboot, and use the fastboot executable to boot clockworkmod, then remove it through that.

thanks for the replies! I had to borrow one of my friends android phones to connect my sdcard to pc. I didnt have a microsd adapter on me at the time. Thank you!

Deleted the original pink screen files

Hi guys!
My first tread on this forum, but not the last
I've been so stupid, because i have deleted the original pink screen files (recovery and the 3others in the image folder).
What should i do? Would like to try the official release of 2.3.5, but the phone wont see the update file =/
any tips? Thanks!
If you have 2.2 copy the files back on the phone If you dont have a backup you can find here

During the installation of the Stock Roms the recovery.img and boot.img files get replaced/modified and that's why your phone gets stuck at the Huawei logo.
Try the following:
Boot the phone in Bootloader (pink screen) by holding Vol+, Vol- and Power, format the partition with FAT32, create a folder called "image" and copy the following files on there.
EMMCBOOT - http://www.mediafire.com/?lb6ifvgk72iru4a
AMSS.MBN - http://www.mediafire.com/?d6r45q6p5gew59v
Recovery.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?57njygc8oianjac
Boot.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?6d5i0714a7o9z97
Once the files are copied, just disconnect the USB cable and remove the battery. Then boot into Recovery by pressing the Vol+ and Power. If you manage to get into CWM Recovery, then it's all good, you can install a custom Rom like Oxygen (
https://sourceforge.net/projects/u8800oxygen/files/ ) by selecting "install zip from SD Card" option.
You'll probably have to use the MOUNT functions within the Recovery to transfer the Oxygen.zip file to your root folder of the SD Card.

Found out the problem! Had forgotten to format the fat disc in pink mode!
If you have lost your pink screen files, you can search them on the net, I think you ll find them easily

[Q] Hero won't boot, Red triangle. After using Z4

Hey Guys,
My SGS died on me so I've send it back for repair. Now temporary using a HTC Hero (gsm).
I tried to root the device using this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
However, Z4 had some trouble rooting the phone. I thought it was a good idea to reboot the device and try it again.
Now it won't boot. It will only vibrate, show me the hero screen and then it will show me a RED Triangle with an explanation mark.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
I've only come across this when trying to load into the recovery.
The issue I had was when I was on the stock rom. I could root the phone and boot into recovery. The phone would turn on fine but if I tried to boot into recovery after the initial boot it wouldn't boot. The stock rom resets root permissions every time it boots up.
I don't know if this helps at all..

No it didn't . I'm having this on regular boot.
I tried to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543571
to see if I could push a recoveryimg. But no luck.
"downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)"
EDIT: After doing some research I'm possible to get into 2E recovery. Can anyone provide a link to an update.zip which could restore my phone in working condition?
A little more info:
S-ON
HBOOT 1.76.0007
Radio 6.35.15.11
Boots, Shows "HERO" screen, vibrates and reboots, then show red triangle.
Pressing Vol+ & power brings up 2E recovery.
So I can only get into 2E recovery or HBOOT/FASTBOOT. Unable to boot the phone any other way.
EDIT: Tried flashing heroimg.zip using HBOOT, but i get an "CID incorrect"
EDIT2: RESOLVED!!!!
Extracted rom.zip from RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoD . Renamed to heroimg.zip put on SDCARD and applied using HBOOT. This resolved the issue.
I managed to solve this issue by removing the SD card, it then booted normally.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA

1. Just double click the .exe file to start the install...
2. Minimize it.
3. Search your c:\ drive for "rom.zip".
4. You will find it in a temporary folder. Copy and paste it somewhere else.
5. Rename to heroimg.zip
6. Copy to your SD card
7. Press the power+back button to get in bootloader mode.
8. Choose HBoot
9. Press the thanks button ;-)
sorry, can't find the thanks button (to few posts?), but thanks again.
unfortunately hboot says there is no image or wrong (it happens very fast)
sdcard is goldcard, rom.zip from RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver
tried also other RUU versions.

edit: I stupid idot, the sdcard was fat not fat32!
