Hi.
I have a rather strange issue with my music on every gingerbread ROM, which I didn't have while using FroYo. When I copy music to my phone and open a music player (I tried stock one, winamp and some others) the "Albums" section is messed up. As far as I understand, gingerbread Android reads "Artist", "Album artist" and "Album" sections of the file, while FroYo reads only "Artist" and "Album". If "Artist" and "Album artist" are not the same, even if it is the same "Album", then two songs will show as two different albums with the same name.
E.g. Song #1 Artist: Deadmau5, Album artist: Deadmau5, Album: Example
Song #2 Artist: Deadmau5, Album artist: none, Album: Example.
These two songs will show up in two separate albums, with Deadmau5 as an artist and Example as an album title.
Is there a way to exclude "Album artist" field in Android Gingerbread?
I have a lot of music and a lot of the albums are compilation. One album - many artists. Instead of seeing one album, I see like 5 or 6 with the same name.
Thank you.
I had this issue before and ended up making a Various Artists folder and flinging my separate tracks in there. Artist is the name of the actual artist, album artist is Various Artists. Not sure if you can change how gingerbread reads it. You could just download PowerAmp and use your folder structure
Have u tried checking id3 tag
Sent from my Nexus One
for some reason, gingerbread reads all music files differently. i had my music library on my epic with froyo and i could use itag to edit them fine. now whenever i use itag or any ID3 editor, it doesnt change a thing. even after reboot. plz help.. cause now i hav songs with incorrect titles and i dont know how to fix them

I have this issue where my music seems to be in a great mess. Is it possible to somehow set the media player to view music folder by folder?
Perhaps you need to tag it properly? Mp3tag is a good program for that, if that is indeed the problem...
Erm...are there any guides for tagging? Because I have no idea what that is. Even though I placed the songs I wanted to together into the same album, I ended up with multiple albums with different songs but same album name,
Well
Computers are like me, anal perfectionists. The name "This is an album" and "This Is An Album" an "This is an album" are 3 totally different things. If they are not correctly tagged, with EXACTLY the same name, they are not the same as far as the phone is concerned.
Tagging is simple, use mp3 tag, loads your songs and fill in the form fields (album, arsits, title ,etc then save. Make sure they are identical for each song by same artist/in same album.
To help make sure, select all similar tracks of the same artist or album together before you fill in that field, that way you ensure the exact same data is input in all of them.
Although it makes little to no difference to WM player I also sort my music into folders.

It's just good housekeeping more than anything and keeps things tidy and simple. Besides, some other program (S2P)actually sort by folder in their library view.
P.S. I also recommend mp3tag, it's pretty close to perfect.
Ah...wait...you mean for the music to be in the same album, the artist must be the same? So exactly what are the factors that determine the music being in the same folder? (It goes by artists? Not by albums? And you mentioned titles. How can the titles be the same for all the music?)
Oh and despite the fact that I changed the tags for the albums, it somehow remains the same in itunes and the Media XPerience Panel. Oh and this is how I change tags. I highlight the whole set of music I want to place in the same album. I right click and press "extended tags". I then edit from there. Is that right? What do things like export/convert etc. do? (Oh and I do save.)
Only if you group them that way, of course if the artists are different just make sure the Album is exactly thesame on each track. I for example keep all compliation/etc albums in an artist called "Various".
That's the issue! I have edited the songs I want together by placing them into the same album by using "extend tag". And yet, The album cannot be found on the Media Xperiance and the Itunes.
No need
You shouldn't need to use the advanced tags, in fact I removed everything from advanced tags that was non standard leaving only album, artist, title, genre and maybe year. I also found that if I edited them directly on the card it didn't work. They aren't updated. I moved them to the PC, edited, deleted any files related to library on the phone then moved the music back.
I don't understand very well your question, because if you choose Menu - Open File - and then select your folder, but don't open it, click on "Read", it reads the files that are in the folder you selected.
But I recommend you doing playlists from your PC with Windows Media Player and synchronize them with your phone. Or there is a nice freeware, MPlayListManager which can create playlists directly on your phone.
Anyone have a Mac solution to this? I use iTunes as my library manager but it seems to me the music information isn't edited by iTunes.
I just got my HD2 a week ago and love it. One problem i have is all the music i put on my Sd card won't play down the list in the music player it will just play the song i selected, what am I doing wrong?

what is the folder structure under which you put the music. It should look something like this:
\Storage Card\Music\Offspring - Americana
\Storage Card\Music\Offspring - The Offspring
\Storage Card\Music\Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon
A folder for each album under a general "Music" folder...
MUSIC
I just made a folder in my Storage Card and called it "Music" obviously without the quotes and used a Micro sd Adapter and put the card reader thingy into my laptop like a usb and transfered over my music. I have a bout 5GB of music and when i when to the music tab it said searching and found all my songs.!?
I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, (please be more specific if this isn't what you're talking about).
When you select a song to play, how are you selecting it?
If you go to Artists or Albums, it will only play the songs under the respective artist or album.
If you go to Library>All Songs and then press on a song, it should then play all songs. Is this what you're doing? What happens when you do this?
Do any of your music players freeze?
I have had it freezing once I loaded about 4gb of music onto it.
Storage Card\Music\*.*
I know just what he means. In the music tab you get the album view which is pretty useless/cumbersome, so, instead of playing music from there, he's going into "Library" and then possibly Artists>Album>SongName. Problem is, when you do that, HTC's music player creates a new (temporary) playlist with only that one song, so, if you want to skip to another song, you have to go back to Artists>Album>etc...
With HTC's player, you HAVE to create playlists to get the most out of it (or just stick with the default "All Songs" playlist (painful if you have over 1,000 songs because, again, of the lame UI for the music player)) and just switch playlists as you go.
Is there any way to get the HTC media player sort the albums in landscape mode to Artist then album like how its sorted in an ipod touch or iphone?

When i uploaded 6 gb of music all in different folders, the player showed it to me all in one giant list, is this going to fix the problem, or do i have to do something else?

The player can show it to you listed by album, artist, genre, or composer...just use the slider when in "library" view. However, this is dependent on the ID3 tags on your music files being filled in correctly...
Is there a way to create ID3 tags for all my music based on folders?
I don't care about the albums as long as i can have folders and not a one giant list of mp3's

Hey im having real issues getting ANY music to play, it is in .mp3 format but my HD2 just wont play it?
Can anyone help?
ok so i rly like the htc music widget and app all around. my question is this
i moved my top rated music from itunes to my sd card. in itunes i make it a must to have all my music well organized from artist album and album art.
once i copied my music to the sd card from itunes some tracks have the the info and album art but the majority of the songs are under unknown artist and dont have the right names to the songs. ive checked in itune and they are well organized in there. all my music is aac as well
any advice?
Basically, iTunes sucks.
Works fine for me, try converting the tags, then delete them from the card and add them again.
Use TuneSync.

what convertion method have you used? ive tried a few and receive the same results
I'm right clicking and converting to 2.4. All my info is showing up right away.
I've found that sometimes if you use a sync program, it won't change the tags when you sync. You have to delete the file from the device and resync
Before, I also thought my mp3s were perfectly organized with iTunes. I was horribly mistaken. I used Media Monkey to check all tags, as it seems more thorough than iTunes and covers several versions of ID3 tagging.
Then, I realized that you cannot simply put a large number of mp3s in 1 folder, e.g. \sdcard\Music\, or else for some reason the music player cannot generate the thumbnails for all album art (found in \sdcard\albumthumbs\), and you will end up with blank album art for many of your songs. So if you already have your music organized by artist, album, etc., you're all set. But I liked being able to drag and drop my music from my iTunes playlist instead of searching my music directory for songs one by one. So I used the drag and drop method to copy all my mp3s to \sdcard\Music\ (could be any folder you want, really). Then I used Media Monkey to browse to \sdcard\Music\, then I selected all files and used the organize feature to create directories by artist, album, etc. Finally, all of my album art showed up correctly.
Hey,
Hoping I can get some help here. When I put compilation albums on my Vibrant and select album view in the player, the compilation albums are shown several times, each track shows as a separate album!
I've made sure in itunes they all have the same album name, I've even checked the 'part of a compilation box' in itunes under get info.
I'm copying the music onto the phone via doubletwist and when I look at the card it has put a separate folder for each artist on the album, so the phone things each folder is a separate album.
This is driving me mad!!! Its impossible to listen to compilation albums at the minute. Am I missing something obvious??
Thanks
Rob
use tagscanner to edit the tracks, add pictures and make sure compilations are grouped.
I had an iPhone before I switched to the S8. I used the smart transfer to get the music into the S8. Everything was fine on the iPhone but in the Samsung music app, the artist names and album names were wrong for several tracks.
When I went to the "details" of a track and removed the incorrect album, the album art disappears. The album art, artist, and album name is all correct when I look at the mp3 files on my computer or either use another music player app. The problem is just with the Samsung music player.
I have 2 examples here. imgur.com/a/Rcy5z
First is a song by Drake and Future called Big Rings. The first picture shows the wrong artist. When I went to the "edit" option, the artist shows up right.
Second is a song by Lil Dicky. The first picture shows the wrong artist and album. The wrong album is part of another artist's song. And as before, going to the "edit" option shows the right artist and album.
Even after I go the "edit" option and delete all the details and then type out the correct ones again. Nothing changes.
Anyone know how to fix this issue? I know I can use other music apps but I want this to work.
Use PowerAmp
Use PowerAmp. Excellent tag editor. Also, make sure the album art is in the folder where that album is stored and has the correct suffix filename.albumart.jpg or w/e it is. Also, using the MyFiles app you should be able to rename the mp3 file itself if need be.
