Evo3d or nexus - EVO 4G General

I know this is the Evo forum but I want to ask Evo users like myself what would prefer. Getting updates on time or dual core phone. Again I put it in the Evo forum because I am only interested in your opinion. And please try not to be biased. Thanks

Currently working on trying to get a Nexus S 4G . It seems when I sent my evo in for replacement under warranty Sprint decided to count that as a new phone and set me back 22 months before an upgrade . I found this out when I called about my date since the release is tomorrow . I sent in a dispute about that and the fact my upgrade date got changed after I signed the contract (Hey why the hell not give it a shot) . The nexus S will have direct updates from google and none of the added on bloat other phones are stricken with

Here's my plan. Since beat buy will allow you to return I think 3 phones - I pre ordered an evo 3d but am buying a nexus tomorrow. If i love the nexus, I'll cancel my evo order. If not, I'll still get the evo. If it ends up having an encrypted bootloader or i dont like it as much as the nexus I will probably return/sell/trade it for a nexus or wait for a gs2 announcement.

For me, nexus. For a couple reasons, the first is Google updates ice cream sandwich is coming very sooon and rumor is it is bringing hardware acceleration goodness...miui has moved to the nexus s as the main device, and I love miui. Have you used super amoled yet? I love my evo but honestly I want something sleeker and thinner now. The battery life is amazing on the nexus

of the 2.. i will get the e3d..
nexus s .. is far out classed by phones coming out this summer.
now.. when the next nexus comes out... that might be a different situation. my upgrade will not be till Dec.. so, we will see.

Your thoughts on Gingerbread release for the Samsung Vibrant.

Hello,
Just wanted your thoughts on the Official Gingerbread for Vibrant.
Do you think it will ever come?
Do you even care?
Any feedback is appreciated .
Cm7 is gingerbread so its already out lol
Need help with cm7? Pm me I can try to help
I don't think about it because I don't care. Gingerbread for the Vibrant 3G is the last thing on Samsungs list.
i have cm7 so i could care less! i will be getting the hercules in a few months anyway
The Gingerbread ROMS are already pretty smooth and nice so I no longer care about the stock one which they seem that don't even WANT to update.
Whatev's when I get the chance I will be buying the SGSII.
...When it doesn't cost a lung for me lol
It's not going to happen.
And neither will me buying another Samsung mobile device, ever.
Ditto.

Probably not coming since the Galaxy S 4G is essentially the successor to the original Vibrant. It would be a terrible sales decision for T-Mobile to support the older model, especially when the two are almost identical except for 4G, an FFC, and the lack of internal storage on the 4G.
I hate u guys.
I guess my best bet is to hunt craigslist for a nexus s.

I wouldn't mind waiting, I've played around with the 4g vibrant, and I like the 3g model better. The ffc is no big deal with me.
But I have a gut feeling that it will be early next year before we get a 2.3 from tmobile.

Sorry, but current dual cores devices are useless and equally as fast as the Nexus S since ICS is yet to be released to optimize Android for multicore devices. You may as well get the one phone guaranteed to get ICS which will increase the Nexus's speed as well. The G2X looks like its not getting ICS and the Sensation would be bogged down by Sense again. Galaxy S2, maybe.
No offense because the 2.3 Roms out right now are smooth. But they straight murder the battery life. Why have a mobile device if you a charge every 8 hours.

No, I held out hope because Samsung promised and promised and promised, and there was a BIG media hullabaloo about the lack of timeliness on the 2.2 update.
Samsung has had exactly ONE press release saying they're putting 2.3 on "all" Galaxy S phones and nobody in the media is talking about a lack of update. Basically, it's as if no-one cares, Samsung included. Only a few people on forums are making any fuss about it, and everybody knows forums in general fly fairly low under the radar.
I still say we're not going to see it, and even if Samsung delivers it before the end of the year, it's far too little far too late. I have no desire to reward their failures and apathy with more purchases.
edit: Oh, and you can thank the ****ing SGS 4G for the lack of an update. IT'S getting 2.3 leaks left and ****ing right, and the rumor is from devs in the know that there isn't even 2.3 source code in existence for the Vibrant.

You are right the good thing about dual cores is one core is incharge of one process and other core incharge of another process. This would probably be best for me as I am constantly studying in school, and switch between apps really fast and single core just cant take from browser to xxxx app to xxxx app and back to browser without it getting stuck!?
If you got like 15 apps and just use it for ROMS and GPS and shiny fast things then by all means stick with the Galaxy S.

Looking for advice: Nexus S 4G vs EVO 4G

Hello,
I've owned an EVO since its release date last year and have recently upgraded to the EVO 3D. I like my EVO still becaue it is rooted and great to run AOSP ROMs. But now that I have the 3D I see little use to run any Sense ROMs because Sense 3.0 on the E3D is just so far superior. Anyhow, I am considering trading/selling my EVO for a NS4G and wanted to get the opinions from those of you that have used/own both.
Thanks in advance.
As long as you aren't going for a contract to get the Nexus S 4G, i'd say go for it. As usual, an new nexus is rumored to be right around the corner (Few months?).
Also, Sprint will be pushing a new update for the NS4G that will (should) fix alot of the problems people are having with the radios.
I will got for the nexus own it and love it as aosp but the 3d kick ass with the UI
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

It would be a Craigslist trade or something along those lines, so no contract. I just feel like the EVO and EVO3D are so similar that its not worth having both.

Get the nexus s; I say let go of your evo 4g so that way if you get tired of driving the hummer (evo 3d) you can pull out your lexus (nexus s) lol. Whats the point of having 2 large phones that are very similar?
Sprint has a tradein prgram...$150 for your EVO 4G....
My wife has the ns4g and be have an evo I would say as long as it's a straight trade go for it. Ns4g is better than the evo in alot of ways but not better enough to shell out cash for. Does oc to 1.4 stable.

Main reason is that I cam trade my EVO with a little bit of cash for a nexus. The SGS2 is demanding a lot of money right now and probably will continue to do so. In addition, if I want the SGS2 I can swap the nexus or 3D for that when it becomes available.

Exactly , so I think you'd be better off waiting. As previously stted, 150$ buy back at sprint on the evos, so you could trade it towards a galaxy s II or something else by that time.
After how HTC handled their last update for the EVO, I'd wait for Galaxy to arrive. Although Samsung's performance with their update for the previous version was not stellar either. But, I think they are being more proactive now.

Need help with a decision!

I have a chance to trade my nexus s 4g for an evo 3d. I've been back and forth trying to decide what with the ics launch imminent. Should I go for it?
From Degobah
if you want the OTA updates first, keep the ns.
anyways i would never sell my NS or something. maybe later i'll get the newest nexus (from google.). once I have a google phone its hard to let go of it
Right! That's my biggest indecision! I had the epic before this...and I don't care of it's Sammy, HTC, or Moto, it's going to take a looong time for those phones to get updated. I'm just falling victim to wanting the dual core and bigger screen. Bit after the whole epic 4g fiasco...I don't know if I want to take that risk again.
From Degobah
Stay with the nexus. I just traded my 3d for a nexus.

That's how they make money. Tempt the customers with awesome specs, then make the product obsolete as soon as possible by keeping the software updated for just a short time.
I don't care about the latest hardware, I want the latest software. That's why I'm keeping my Nexus S.
I remember a user here who traded his Evo 3d for a nexus s. Going from nexus s to evo 3d is not an 'upgrade' in my opinion.

ahm.. evo 3d is not that good imho. If you are going to upgrade make it at least something like a GS2. Community support for that phone is big. So even if that phone don't get early ICS, the developers will have a stable ICS rom on it.

I was stuck with the hboot1.5 and it was a pain in the ass to root. I didn't want to do it the HTC method. Plus I also noticed on numerous 3D phones that they had an issue with on time and awake time. They would be close to equal. I think it was due to the software 2.3.4

Maybe, but so far I haven't found anyone to trade for an epic touch 4g. Plus after the 2 snafus propagated by Samsung with original epic, I'll pass, plus all the Los issues with it...no thanks. I'm sure for an upgrade in January, so I'll just hold on to this until the galaxy nexus his for sprint.

sprint does early upgrades again

surprised I didn't see this on here yet. I see that sprint has decided to bring back a new early upgrade program. Wondering who is going to take advantage. For me personally I don't think its going to be worth it. I'm at the $55 range according to the table in the link. So if I understand this right, I have to pay the $55 + $36 (upgrade fee) + $199 for cost of phone. so thats just about $300.
Option B would be buy an S2 on craigslist for $350, sell my epic for $150 and not have a new contract. $200 out of pocket. Maybe better if i can find a better deal on an s2 and sell mine for more.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/09/sprint-launches-early-upgrade-promo/
sprint has always had a buy up program. this is really nothing new.
Plus if you threaten to leave they'll give you an upgrade
Hasn't been two years yet and I'm already qualified for a full two year upgrade waiting on the galaxy nexus.. the epic touch is not worth it

While I am still extremely happy with my Epic, I just want a larger screen. Once I get that I will probably hold on to whichever phone that happens to be for a very long time. My single core Epic is plenty fast for my usage so anything higher will just be icing on the cake.

I can see what you mean but this phone is better than the og evo and it has tons of options as well...I'm with iSaint. The gnex has google support and has pretty decent hardware specs. Besides its omap ... more openess and all newer versions of android are being built on this platform. But the evo has a faster cpu which is said to be faster or as fast as the quadcores. I'm still choosing the gnex and will love every minute of it until next year when I get another early upgrade .

really wish there was a version of the gnex with a hw keyboard.. then i'd be gladly forking over my money.. as it is, unless my epic dies unexpectedly, there won't be any motivation to switch phones just yet..
On a side note, I didn't know i was up for a renewal until i looked at the gnex pre-order, apparently I am.. good to know..
I know... I'm going to miss my hw keyboard SEVERLY but... that juicy 4.65 hd display should be sufficient for me =]. Ill get the s4 when that gets rumoured .

I think anyone who doesn't wait for the dust to settle and see what the Galaxy S III will be like may be having blue balls and gambling with their upgrade ;-) I'm sure the Evo LTE will be a fine phone but think about how awesome the GSIII LTE (aka Epic LTE?) could be, and Sprint's version might just have a keyboard too, and be as slim as the newest Droid.
I'm gonna wait until LTE gets deployed in my area, I believe it's slated for the fall so WiMax will do for me until then.

Going to preorder it now, yes there are going to be more announcements fir different phones but the specs on yue galaxy Nexus are good enough for me plus 2 years of upgrades and tons of development I don't think I will care about other phones

You have until 5/22 to activate with the $50 Google wallet credit, I will definitely wait until 5/3 to see what GSIII will bring to the table.
Well I guess I have until September before my contract is up anyway, but if I were looking to upgrade now I would at least see what Samsung will bring to the next-gen party.
Well apparently my upgrade line was an air card so I will be getting it in a month still I don't care if new stuff comes out a nexus for 2 years sounds amazing

Just got my text message from Sprint this morning regarding this .... I have 1 line already eligible for upgrade , but I'm holding out 'til later this year when "better" phones should be released ( mythical beast with KB / Epic LTE ? )
I'd rather have the gnex and be the first to taste Jelly Bean before anyone else gets updated. Not to mention having a solid development community, as Nexus devices usually do. If I'm to wait for a device I'd be waiting on the next Nexus, forget everything else. Don't care what has the best hardware. I care what's got good enough hardware for me, works, has good software and gauranteed updates, and a good dev community.
