I am having problems downloading pictures and applications. I get the message "download unsuccessful". I have to go to the download folder and retry it, sometimes more than a few times before it finally says "successful". I'm normally on wifi and have tried it with 3g, but that just makes it longer.

OK, so today I decided to update my Galaxy S firmware via Kies as it was now available for Vodafone customers. All seemed to go ok, got to the final screen on Kies where it says completed, phone will reboot when firmware update completed. However it never did reboot, the menu and back button lights just lit up and stayed on for ages.
Now the phone would only boots to the Galaxy S start up screen and get stuck.
I decided to go into recovery mode and do a factory reset which sort of helped. The phone boots up into Andorid but only to the 'Welcome to GT-I9000, touch the Android to begin'. Except the 'force close' messages keep popping up saying XXXX process has stopped unexpectedly, and pressing the 'touch android to begin' doesn't do anything (more force close errors pop up). After a while the force close errors stop, but pressing 'the Android' does nothing.
If I plug the USB cable in it is recognised and I can choose Samsung Kies/Mass Storage mode on the phone. However, if I press Samsung Kies and fire up Kies it just gets stuck on 'connecting'. Nothing shows up on on the phone though.
Any ideas on what to do next? Flash firmware with Odin?
Any help would be much appreciated, really don't want to have to send it back to Vodafone
Have you tried unplugging the battery from the device and leaving it for a while and restart it. It may work out....
I've flashed it to JM8 now and is working okish.
I installed the project voodoo lag fix and now I can't sign into my gmail or facebook account which is slightyly irritating . Worked fine before, any ideas why it comes up with "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"?
I'm using wifi to connect to the internet, full signal, worked fine in same place before etc. Internet works fine so it suggests the connection is ok. Any ideas?
I had this issue yesterday and resolved it by doing a factory reset in the settings app. For some train the recovery mode reset doesn't reset the google link..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
lex_87, did you ever resolve this? I've been having a tonne of issues since upgrading to the Vodafone-provided update that was released on 19/09, and after getting fed up with my phone crashing/panicking all the time, did a a factory reset from within the Settings menu. And now I've got exactly the same issue as you.
Really not sure what to do. If I flash it myself I'll end up voiding the warranty and if I send it back to Vodafone, I won't get a replacement for weeks, if not months, as they're out of stock.
Any help would be appreciated...
You need to re-enter your APN settings to get data to work again, Google for vodafone's APN settings.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem, but I didn't manage to enter in to the setup mode in order to do a factory reset. Can you please tell me how can I access factory reset? The phone never recover from a black screen and a few buzz.
Thanks.
A few days ago I received an error when trying to download applications from market .. 'the process.android.media has stopped unexpectedly', .
And now every time I connect to internet I can not download any applications and that error still appears. I soft and hard reseted my phone many times but no luck.
Have you tried uninstalling the Market updates?
Try going settings->applications->manage applications
hit the menu key, and select filter->All
Then go to market and hit "uninstall updates"
I just used Odin to upgrade my phone from the stock 5.01 lollipop ROM to the stock 5.1.1 ROM. The phone reboots just fine but I need to have it rooted. So I rebooted into download mode used CF Auto Root. The phone appears to root just fine and then reboot. That's when the trouble starts.
I start getting messages that say "contacts has stopped." "Daemon has stopped." "Media storage has stopped." Each one of the messages has an "ok" button that has to be clicked before you can access anything on the phone. The messages pop up about every 5 seconds, so if you clear them out, you start the process all over. Better yet, if you clear them out quickly enough to open up contacts, no contacts appear.
If you don't clear the warnings out, they continue to pop up about every 5 seconds until you run out of memory... at least that's what I think is happening... and you get a message that says the "UI isn't responding."
Reflashing the ROM in Odin seems to take care of the problem, but then I'm stuck having to root the phone again.
Anyone have any idea of what is causing the problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

This is universal method for root works 100% with 5.0,5.1.1,6.0.1 if you follow all steps correctly.
1 flash firmware in odin
2,complete setup
3,go to download mode
4 uncheck auto reboot in odin options
5,flash twrp recovery in odin once PASS remove battery and insert again.
6,boot into twrp ( press 3 buttons) (power+home+volume up)
7,flash supersu.zip from twrp recovery.
8 reboot and enjoy

Dear XDA,
It's been a while, I used to have all sorts of fun with rooting and experimenting with new ROMs. Shamefully, I haven't done it in years.
I come now with a problem. My phone seems to have failed the most recent update pushed and started freezing, cycling, all sorts of nasties. Now, however, it automatically boots into Recovery and cannot boot out of it. If I do select a reboot it only accomplishes giving me the one line of "verifying dmverity hash tree" and then after about a minute the phone just shuts off. (update, I watched more closely this time and it verified the above and when it tried to reboot it shut off)
At this rate, there is little I can do. A look at the current software version shows that I am one update behind (I think they pushed a new one today/yesterday). Would applying that update from the SD work? I am on verizon with update
MMB29M.N910VVRS2CQC1
and the newest is
"" D1
Would downloading MMB29M.N910VVRS2CQD1 to my SD card allow me to apply the update? They don't appear to put any of the updates on an online repo anywhere that I can see. I would appreciate your advisement, I need to get back into the phone to move an app over with its current data at the very least.
Regards
Edit1: When I take the battery out for a bit and try to boot into safe mode by holding the volume down button, it still boots into recovery but also then goes to the android "Installing system update" for about a minute before going to the "No Command" screen and eventually the recovery mode.

I've owned this phone for about a year now, it's really lightweight and cheap and it get's the job done most of the time. The only problem sometimes is the small storage size. It wanted to install an update on my device for some time but it never could because my storage was full, I didn't really care. Until one day I removed a ****ton of files because I wanted some more space. I put my phone on the charger and I went to sleep, I did not turn it off. The next morning when I want to check my notifications, I notice my phone is off. I turn it on and immediately get booted into this EMUI Huawei eRecovery screen. It gives me 4 options: "Download latest version and recovery", "Wipe data/factory reset", "Reboot", and "Shutdown". The Reboot and Shutdown options don't to anything to get me out of the menu, it just comes back up when I start my phone again. And obviously I want to stay away from a factory reset until it's actually necessary. So I tried the first option, it asked me to connect to a wifi network, which I did. It gives me the message "Getting package info from server" for a while, and then it says "Getting package info failed". Does anyone have an idea what causes this and how to fix it?
Greetings,
Tot
Ps: I did not install any custom roms nor did I root the device
