Set user agent in default browser - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Copy and paste from the Whirlpool.net.au forum I think the default browser works best.
--------------------
I have forced the browser on my tab to display all webpages in the full/desktop version – instead of mobile sites – here is now I did it – very easy to do and can reverse it if required. Open the browser and in the address bar type about:debug and hit enter.
Note: Nothing should happen Go to the menu key and press settings In the left hand column press Debug and then on the right press UAString. Here are all the user agents you can set. For sites to display like they do on your desktop press Desktop. Once your user agent is set go back to the address bar and re-type about:debug to remove your browser from the debug mode.

Thank you so much. That was bugging me.

You still have to do it this way? I noticed on the Transformer you can get to the User Agent String without putting the browser into debug mode.

From what I can see there no other way on the Samsung.

Browser trouble

Does anyone have a fix for the browser defaulting to mobile view and setting it to desktop view? i cannot find a fix to this in the settings. This wasnt an issue on the Evo.
it is very annoying to scroll down to the bottom of every page and click desktop view. some pages like ESPN do no even have this. Even after to select desktop it will go right back to mobile view if you move to another page within the same site.
I couldn't find this setting in the default browser either. Pretty sure there isn't a option to change the user agent in 2.1 stock browser.
You can always switch to Dolphin HD or xScope which allow you to switch user agents.

I'm in the same boat. On my rooted hero xscope browser with the user agent set to computer worked perfectly. On the epic you can set it to computer and it stills goes to the mobile sight. I really need to figure it out for ESPN. No fantasy football and this baby is going back to the store lol
Open the browser then type in about:debug and hit enter. It wont do anything after hitting enter but if you go into options you will now have a option to change the UAString from mobile to desktop. The option is at the bottom of the option list.
Have you tried opera mini?

Question about Browser settings???

My girlfriend just got the epic for Sprint and when she uses the browser (default browser) all the pages and sites are in mobile view. I went to settings to change it for her but I cant find the correct setting to fix it. Can someone help?

This is great. Thank you so much! I will apply the change for her tomorrow when I see her. Again thank you!

I did the changes and they work but they aren't permanent. How do I make the desktop browser view stay?

[Q] Browserproblems

I experience some problems while surfing. The standardbrowser crashes sometimes and websites automatically offer a mobile cellphone lay-out. Are these problems solvable, or do we have to wit for Android 3.1?
Yep, there's a thread somewhere here about making the stock browser load desktop versions of sites. Better still, download dolphin hd from the market, go into settings and change to desktop.
Write about:debug in the stock browsers searchfield then press enter. It will look like nothing happens. Then press the settings button in the top right corner and go to settings menu. You will find the debug choise. In there you will find the UAstring. Press that one and choose what you prefer.

Desktop UA

any hack to make desktop the default user agent
As of now I have to aways enter it with every restart
And that show javascript console bar is always there
I think it was done on the xoom
I know Dolphin HD does this
SGT 10.1 uplink initiative
Ya it does, i prefer the stock browser
ic an do it by entering 'about:debug' in the bar
the ngoing into settings, but its annoying everytime i restart to to do it, or anytime it force closes
I don't think this is possible without having the source code. I could be wrong though.
for now you'll just have to do it the old fashioned way

In the debug menu do you not have the option to uncheck "show JavaScript console"?

This was most definitely done on the Xoom, and it had to do with making some tweaks to the framework-res.apk file. xda user Sangreal06 was responsible for this, and I have PM'd him to see if it can be done for the 10.1. The only thing he'd need (I think) is a copy of the framework-res.apk file from a 10.1. I'll see if I can help make this happen...
I followed the advice in other threads, doing the "about:debug" then changing ua string in settings\debug, then pressing enter behind the "about:debug" again. This did away with the Java console and also kept the stock browser in desktop mode even after power restart.

Interesting, could you post a link to the thread that contained that method? I can't seem to find it I guess I'm mostly unclear with what you meant when you said "pressing enter behind the about:debug again."
Well, really, just
1. type "about:debug" in browser address and press enter.
2. go to "settings > debug > UA string" and select "desktop".
3. the "about:debug" should still be in the browser address, so just press enter again.
Doing so, the "debug" menu in "settings" disappears once again, you no longer see the annoying "java console" under the address bar on certain web pages, and it seems to make "UA string: desktop" your new default, so even if you restart (power off - on ), the stock browser always opens websites in desktop layout!

Mobile to desktop

How do you set the browser to only open desktop versions of a website? I can't seem to find the option anywhere
Type about:debug in browser. Nothing will happen. Then go into browser options and you should have additional options. Should be there.

So where would I find browser options. I've been in the browsers settings by clicking the upper righthand corner but that doesn't give me any compatible options before our after doing the debug

when you go to the settings after applying the command of about:debug, you will see on the bottom "debug" in the settings under advanced. Once you go there, click uastring. Change it from android to desktop. This will tell websites you visit that it is a desktop and not a android device and thus load the full page, not the mobile version.
But it isn't permanent.
Going through about:debug became such a hassle on my zoom that I'm using dolphin HD full time now. Just have to get your bookmarks in the stock browser so you can get the cool scrolling widget and set dolphin as the default browser.
