Problem installing CWM - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
a month before i flashed my HTC HD2 to a DFT Froyo 2.2 Sense ROM.
Softwareversions as i undestand them are the following
Magldr 1.13
Android 2.2
Baseband 15.38.50.07U_2.10.50.19_2
Kernel 2.6.32.15 by cotulla
BuildNo 2.29.405.5 CL293415 release-keys
SoftwareNo. 2.29.405.5
Browser Webkit 3.1
I found the information to do this around in the internet. Knowing about XDA i decided to flash my Desire HD to Revolution HD. After having done the flash i found a lot more stuff around XDA and decided to flash my HD2 again to a newer mod.
Having bought CWM i thought it would be easy to flash the HD2 to another mod, but after installing ROM-Manager i wasn't and still am not able to install CWM. From the info shown in german, i would translate the following german text:"Bei der Ausführung von privilegierten Kommandos ist ein Fehler aufgetreten!" to "An error happened on execution of privilegised commands"
And now i'm stuck on this and don't know what to do. Afaik i would estimate this being a fault of SU which was installed with the ROM, but i really don't know it.
i would appreciate any help or hint.
Thx
Kai

Hi,
Unfortunately, ROM manager does not work with magldr...
If you want to use it ,you need to install cLK.Have a look at my sig...guide number 2
Did you buy CWM?("Having bought CWM i thought it would be easy to flash the HD2 to another mod,")
Should not have to pay for it.
All is in the guide..

Yes, i bought CWM, because i think it's worth paying a few bucks to the coder

No, you don't have to switch, the only difference is you manually enter cwm rather than the phone automatically entering cwm for you. just don't use rom manager. Read the cwm thread, in android nand development thread all info is there including free download links.( I'd be REALLY unhappy at whoever sold you cwm!, and in fact isn't it released under a freeware license? Making resale illegal?)

There is a free and paid version of ROM Manager in the Android market. The free version works good, but the paid version has added benefits of course, like installing from QR code, checjking for OTA ROM updates, aqnd more avaliable ROM downloads.

Hm. liking the way it works on Desire HD, is there a reason not to switch to clk and stay with magldr?
I would like to play with the HD2 as much as possible, so it would be really fine, if i was able to switch between roms as easy, as in Desire HD, working with rom-manager and CWM.

Hi,
For me I'm using magldr and I find it easy switching between ROMS,because I am used to it.I cannot vouch for clk ,because I have not tried it yet,but I'm told it is much more native to android, therefore more user friendly.
If I were you, stick with magldr for a while, then change to see the difference..

Yeah but with MAGLDR you have to boot into MAGLDR, then into CWM, then select to do a backup, then select to wipe your data your cachje and delvik cache, then go and select to flash your ROM. With cLK you install ROM Manager from the Android market then just open ROM manager and select "Install ROM from SD Card" then pick the ROM from SD card. Then a window opens in ROM Manager and you check the box to :"Backup Existing ROM", "Wipe Data and Cache", and "Wipe Delvik Cache". Then you tap ok and it automatically boots into CWM and executes all the commands then flashes the ROM and reboots the device when it is done flashing the ROM. Remember you did all the set up in Android itself. Plus ROM Manager has like a hole bunch of other options. You seee ROM Manager is a interface for CWM in Android. You can even use ROM manager to flash CWM, I just flashed to CWM version 3.1.0.0 tonight with it, and gues what that is because it told me it was a update avaliable for CWM when I opened ROM Manager. Not to mention the fact you do not have to worry about making CWM the right partition size anymore cuase cLK sets the partition sizes when you flash, it is like auto pilot. But the best of all you can actually turn your HD2 off and charge it using cLK, you don't get that with MAGLDR.

Hi,
So you can set the partition size in android?
Does that mean you can load a ROM without the use of a PC?

That looked quite strange to me. I had to choose right CWM first, before flashing the ROM. on my Desire HD i'm able to download the ROM with the DHD and afterwards flashing it directly from the SD-Card.
Yes, without using a PC. Dunno if it's possible like that on the LEO using CLK.
Bu i've got a Question about CLK. If using it, is it hard to switch back to a WinMobile ROM?

Switching back to winmo is the same for both magldr and clk,,,, flash your phones correct stock rom.
I can't add anything to the pros and cons of clk, I plain and simply can't get it to instal. I suspect its something left over from when I installed the android sdk and eclipse, followed by wp7 sdk , just can't get the command line to pass commands to the phone (required to initially set up clk)
Next time I clean reinstall my PC I'll try again, but till then magldr for me.(which is fine, I've always preferred doing stuff manually, automation takes the fun out of it for me)

From what I understand cLK sets the partition size when using it so you do not have to. I mean you can flash CWM via ROM Manager and it does not ask you what partition size you want, it just flashes it. Also you can download and flash a ROM just using ROM manager, you never have to touch a computer. Now granted the only ROM I see available right now is Hyperdriod and a Cyanogen Mod ROMs, but I am sure more will become available when more people switch to cLK and can use ROM Manager. Right now when I touch on Download ROM I see this.
Extras
Cool stuff (This gives me 2 choices for Superuser one says 2.3.6.1 cd and the other says 2.3.6.1 ef)
charansingh
Mods and Bacon for your phone ( I get 3 Cyanogen Mod choices 7.0.0, 7.0.0-RC4, and 7.0.0-RC2)
Hyperdroid
Hyperdroid is the InsanelyFast & Incredibly Smooth Custom Android ROM that will blow you away Awwsomeness! (I get 2 choices HyperDroid-GBX-v12 and v11)
Google Apps
Add-on for AOSP ROMs, such as CM (I get 4 choices here 20110503 Universal, 20110307 Universal, 20110120 Universal,20110115 Universal, 20110114 Universal, but the 20110120, 20110115, and 20110114 says they are for 2.3.2 and no longer supported.

Hey San have you tryied adding the directory to your "Enviroment Variables" on your computer. This will allow you to open a command prompt up that is in the directory you need to get CWM flashed. Click on my guide and scroll down to post#3 where I expain how to flash CWM with cLK and I give full details.

Flash NAND from SD

Hi
Me and i know a lot of you out there have got a big problem on our phone, and broken the usb port. So no flashing ROM from USB sync :S.
I'm hoping that Cedesmith's CLK NAND loader + CWM flashed from an .nbh using the sdcard method will be the solution we are looking for.
Hope some of the great devs out there think of a way for us to flash NAND or even WM7.
Just get the port fixed?!
PS. There is no such thing as "WM7".

Dude once again with fixing the port... If that was an option i would be asking for a .nhg so i could format the phone. I've got MAGLDR installed using the SD card now, and i know about cwm, i want a way to partion the phone from the SD for Android or WP7. If i knew how to do that i would be asking...
Thanks a lot
same here
Hi,
My USB is also broken. This is somehow not covered by warranty. Repairservice wants to charge me for 536€ and Amazon sells the HD2 already for 499€.
I cannot afford a new one nor the repair.
Beeing able to flash everything including HSPL and MAGLDR from SD-Card.
I would be very greatful for that option as the standard software provided from HTC is very disappointing with all the great options for the HD2 out there.
Best Regards,
Joe

Well you're wrong!
There is no "Windows Mobile 7" The OS you are referring to is called "Windows Phone 7" and its a completley new OS and nothing to do with windows mobile, hence it doesnt run any of WM programs.
i have a question in regards to the clockwork mod recovery now on hd2, I have installed magldr1.13 thats fine, i have also flashed the clcokwork recovery as well.
I am totally lost as to how you are supposed to be able to flash rom zips from clockwork instead of nand flashing. I know how to nand flash, and I also know how to use clockwork on regular android o.s systems , but im lost as to what this clockwork recovery works with nand roms and regular zip or z7 roms.
If I flash a regular nand rom like i have, and then get into clockwork and try to install a rom from clockwork it messses up?
Are the cockwork roms for the hd2 specific as in zip format or can you intall a nand rom from clockwork it seems people have merged some nand roms with sd .
Any insight or guide would help.

Yessss. Please make a way to flash new partitions with sdcard. I have a USB port with a broken contact between the mainboard and the USB port that can't be fixed.

About to flash my first NANDroid ROM - want to confirm a couple of things!

Hi all,
After using Android via SD for months, I feel the time has come to make it my full-time OS.
I've chosen this ROM as my first to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908528 - Looks like a decent, stable Desire HD (Sense) port.
I've read all the usual n00b threads but due to paranoia and anxiety want to just confirm I'm about to do everything right before the big flash...
This rom uses ext3 data (like a fake 1gb internal memory) so I've partitioned my SD card as per instructions in the thread.
My main concern is flashing MAGLDR, i.e. "you need to flash MAGDLR 1.13 and the 400mb Recovery"
From what I gather, I download "-Download v1.3 400MB-" from this thread and run the update utility via USB like flashing any (WM) ROM. Is it best to Task29 before this and do it from the bootloader? Do I need to flash anything else before-hand? What's the difference between the magldr 1.13 and magldr 1.13 with 400mb recovery that I'm told to use in the ROM thread? Do I need to flash one before the other?
After this is on my phone it looks simple enough to flash the rom via the SD card inside MAGLDR's options and finish the job.
I've got the correct radio, etc. So all I'm really asking for is confirmation on how to get MAGLDR on my phone.
Sorry for the seemingly stupid question(s) but I have indeed read through the threads but just want to be sure!
Thanks!
The 400MB recovery is not MAGLDR - it's Clockworkmod recovery with a specific 400MB flash layout.
Task 29 is optional, but recommended. Then boot to bootloader, flash your radio of choice, flash MAGLDR, flash Clockworkmod, and finally flash your chosen NAND build from within Clockworkmod, which is accessed from the MAGLDR menu. There's not too much that can go wrong if you read all the tutorials, and everything in the OP for your chosen build.
Best of luck!

theyre the same thing, , , magldr will work with any recovery size, and depending on the rom size you choose, depends how big you want the partition to be. You have a big rom, so use 400, i have a light rom, so i use the 150. the magldr is the same, the only difference is two numbers in a text file that set the size of the partition during flashing.

Yeah. Basically run Task29 (format the NAND) if you want to. Then after that run the RomUpdateUtility to flash MAGLDR 1.13 via HSPL then once you're inside of MAGLDR (hold power button while powering on) and flash the 400mb Clockwork Recovery image via the .daf file found in your Clockwork download folder from USB Flasher in MAGLDR. That'll flash CWR, then reboot to MAGLDR again and chose 'AD Recovery'. Then you're in Clockwork and free to do whatever you want.
Much thanks guys - this'll be tomorrow's lunchtime project! Trust XDA to fill me with confidence

Just downloaded the free version of ROM Manager and it would not reboot into recovery, I tried twice. I also tried flashing Clockwork Mod Recovery (even though I already have it flashed to my HD2) becausecevery thing besides reboot into recovery and flash Clockwork Mod Recovery give me a message saying I need Clockwork Mod Recovery before I can use it. But when I tried to flash Clockwork Mod recovery it did list the HTC HD2 in the list but it said it incountered an error while flashing Clockwork Mod Recovery, again I tried twice and same message both times. But I checked and I do still have Clockwork Mod Recovery on my HD2. Maybe you have to use cLK with ROM Manager cause in the information on the ROM Manager when you find it in the Android market says for this.

hi,
Do you know when it will start working with magldr?
I updated it and bought the premium version, because I was trying to update the boot loader.
I clicked on flash clockworkmod recovery and it updated to 3.0.2.5.
But when I tried to load a d recovery,I just got an error
So I presume it has installed clk?
Don't know how I'm going to get my ad recovery back.i guess I'll have to read up on that.
I did check online for some instructions on ROM manager, but no joy.

Installed rom manger and when i tried to flash cwm, HTC HD2 appeared on the devices list for the very first time (i tell you what, it felt great really great), this was the last thing needed to make HTC HD2 fully compatible with android os.
Updated cwm and did a nandroid backup from within rom manger, without a single problem, how cool is that?
This my dear friends was the icing on the cake (sort of speak) for this great piece of hardware and its long road into running android as well as any other native "made for android" hardware. This is it.
Thanks a lot to the devs and their testers who for making this all happen, thank you guys, you did make the impossible, possible, here is proof to that.
Thank you cedesmith for your "not so little" cLK.
Thank you pongster for your amazing roms.
p.s. Hyperdroid GBX is already available to download from rom manager, what do you say to that?

Well... as much i have figured out ROM Manager is not available for MAGLDR yet because of the /boot partition formating.
cLK is formating /boot partition with different file system of MAGLDR which allow ROM Manager to work on cLK.
Now if you would like to change from MAGLDR to cLK it is actually very easy and simple.
Here are the steps:
download cLK 1.4 from here
(cLK is managing the partitioning of the disk therefore you will see different filenames. I use the System:130M / Cache:5M for Ultimate Droid Rom)
The flashing of cLK is done same way as you flash WinMo (with CustomRUU). Just place in the same folder CustomRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh and run as administrator.
Ofcourse you have to be in bootloader mode (you know the screen with the 3 colors that shows the HSPL version)
After flashing cLK you need to have installed the adb drivers. On my expirience in Windows 7 are automaticly installed.
After that you have to download the necessary files for the fastboot commands to work from here
Extract the file to i.e. c:\android
Then you have to download ClockWorkMod Recovery for cLK from here. Download from attachements CWM for cLK.
Place the cwm *.img in the same folder as fastboot.
Now, in order to install the cwm to cLK you need to:
Run cmd
Navigate to c:\android (on cmd)
and
Code:
Type "fastboot erase recovery" (<- not really necessary; just to make sure), followed by enter
Type "fastboot flash recovery cLK_recovery_3.0.2.5.img", followed by enter
Type "fastboot reboot" for rebooting your phone
Once rebooted hold down the home button and you will enter CWM
The rest you know what to do.
I use UD Rom 3.2.5 v2 for cLK with a fix for PPP which is actually very stable from here. You can copy/paste this fix to /system/lib with the use of terminal (you must reboot after and must not clear cache)
If you don't care about the internet connection stability so much... cLK is a must for you.
PS: If you need more info about installing read the cLK and CWM thread

cLK is formating /boot partition with different file system of MAGLDR which allow ROM Manager to work on cLK.

Hi,
Firstly ,thanks for the tut.
I'm not sure I'm ready for clk right now.My only gripe was that it wasn't overly clear that ROM manager was only for clk,not magldr.
If you,or anyone else on magldr, care to read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040564
you can see that I wasn't the only one with this problem.
Having said that, all's well that ends well.
I bought the program because it looked like a great app.
It probably is,but not for me just yet.
At zach.anger why did you say if internet connection stabilitycis notcan issue then cLK is a must. Does cLK cause problems with keeing a data connection?
Also educate me on what PPP is please? I have been reading all through the cLK thread and CWM thread and have not seen an answer.

PPP is 'Point to Point Protocal', it is the alternative to RMNET type of data connection. clk doesn't support RMNET, which some consider to have a steadier data connection (no data drops) at a bit of a cost in data speed. But really ppp has come a long way since we first started having Android on our HD2's. I use ppp on a ROM that was originally on RMNET, and I never experience data drops, but some folks still prefer RMNET, or even can't get a data connection at all ob PPP.
As far as clk being a must, if you have no data issues with ppp:
clk is more like having a native Android device, it enables you to use fastboot commands from adb, and since there's no MAGLDR menu in the way between the OS and recivery, you can use the Advanced Shutdown menu built into some ROMs to boot directly from Android into CWM. That's also why ROM Manager works with clk and not MAGLDR.

Thanks for the info.
I knew about RMNET not working with cLK, even though I do not know what it is yet lol, I have not googled it yet. Bit I had tried Googling PPP and came up empty using several search terms, well not empty but not the answer I was looking for.
I also knew about being able to enter the ADB fastboot commands using cLK. I have been doing a good bit of research on cLK as I am wanting to add it to my guide in my sig. I am still wondering one thing though. I accidently busted the LCD on my laptop so I can not test this myself. But can you use the fastboot commands to flash a Android ROM just like you usecthem to flash CWM. I mean it seems to me all you have to do is type in the below command into the command promt.
fastboot flash (name of the .img file for the ROM).img
Am I correct in thinking this?
Pretty sure it will work. But I dunno 100% for sure, as I'm still using magldr. clk looks so attractive, butmy current setup is so stable, and I'm a bit lazy to switch

As said before RMNET and PPP are 2 different connection protocols.
RMNET is stable and supported by MAGLDR and not by cLK
PPP is supported by cLK but not stable as RMNET.
Concerning the benefits of cLK it just makes your HD2 a native android device, with all the benefits of it... Thats all.
About the command you are right. You can use the commands to flash any partition table as following:
"fastboot flash [partition to flash] *.img"
for example you only want to flash a new boot.img (kernel & init.rd) you just need to type:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
you can also flash specific files from within an img but i don't remember the exact commands right now.

[Q] Troubles with HD2 - Typhoon ROM 3.3.3

Hi,
I have troubles with my HTC HD2.
Im trying to install this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
(25.May.11][MAG/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.3.3[2.3.4][A2SD][tytung r10]
This is my installation step by step.. So...
- Install HSPL 2.08
- Task29
- Radio
- Magldr 1.13
- CWM (3.0.2.5) 150MB
-partition SD Card 1024 and 0
-ext-sd format
- installation of the ROM
- fix permissions
- reboot
And my Android stuck at GO GO GO screen. I dont know what I have done badly, because if I use CWM 3.2.0.0 Android boots nicely, but I hear RoboVoice when I try to call. On the other hand if I try to install the old version of Android via CWM 3.0.2.5 everythink works. I mean the same version of Android but 3.0.6. - no RoboVoice, no bugs with falling applications.
I want to have updated system, but it is impossible for me and I dont know why.
So what is the problem?
thank you
Some details:
SD Card Kingston 8GB class 4
Windows 7 64-bit
maybe this will help ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945427
Yes, thank you.
But I think the problem is somewhere else. I really keep tutorials and manuals. The problem must be at version of Android. One big different between new and old version is AD Recovery CWM. For old it is for example 135MB, for new version it is 150MB. So I use 150MB as they write at thier thread and it is still not working.
If I use 3.2.0.0, Android(3.3.3) boots, but with bugs.. RoboVoice and so on..
If I use 3.0.2.5, Android freezes at GO GO GO.
Hey,double-confirm if u ain't flashing a CLK build as MAGLDR?
Try using this CWM flasher...it contains version 3.0.2.8...All u have to do is connect phone 2 pc in usb flasher mode (MAGLDR), run the setup.exe as admin, select 150MB partition, flash away...
Alternatively u can just copy out the recovery-raw.img file out and use it 2 replace the recovery-raw.img in the official 3.0.2.5 folder which was recommended in the ROM thread and flash away...
P.S. Try both methods first (performing a task29 each time) and if it still doesn't help then its best to seek help in the ROM's thread...Get help from its users.
MAGLDR of course
Ill try CWM 3.0.2.8. Thank You

First of all are you using cLK or MGLDR?
For robo voice, it is only on the first call, just reboot, call anyone or any number and just hit end call.
If you have GO GO GO screen, you are using MGLDR, so why are you repartitioning your ROM? The MGLDR, already comes with its own partition built in, no need to change anything.
Im using MAGLDR, not cLK.
Ill try your tips, so wait for my report
And what about falling applications?
I click on Internet application or Facebook app. Maybe 3 seconds it works then falls to Home Screen. Thank You
I have used CWM 3028. The problem with RoboVoice is resolved.
However, I have troubles with applications. Internet, Facebook etc.... still falling when I click on them. But at version 3.0.6 everthing works OK.
I dont know why ..
I tried everything

HD2 can't get over booting procedure, unable to get to recovery

To make it quick, I tried to flash a ROM and it obviously didn't work out, so I'm pretty much stuck.
Tried to get back to recovery, but the HD2 always tries to boot the not working ROM.
How can I get back to recovery so I can flash a ROM the right way?
Thanks in advance
Push
Come on, there's gotta be a way to get into recovery to wipe and flash properly...shall I get over the procedure of flashing CWM and this stuff again? Would that get me to recovery again so I can flash a ROM properly?
Otherwise I'm really exhausted and out of ideas...

Start up your device and press and hold the Red Button (end call button) until it loads the MAGLDR. Then choose 8 and load into recovery.
I read something about 7 seconds, but it's starting to boot after estimated 5 seconds.
I'm actually not at home, I'll try it in few hours.
Thanks so far.
Do I need to wipe and then flash? and which ROM can you suggest?
Gesendet von meinem Desire HD mit Tapatalk
Just press and hold the End call button after turning it on.
And yeh, always do a wipe (Wipe Data and Wipe Cache + Dalvik Cache only) if you are going to flash a new rom. But do not delete your SD files like music etc
and i can recommend - HyperDroids CM7 Rom - based on Android 2.3.7 because im using it by myself. Absolutly no problems hereto check the links in my sig.
Have fun!
BTW:
The problem for not booting up might could be a too small Recovery Layout. Most Roms require a 150MB system partition and 5MB cache partition. Just check this out in the Rom's Thread there should be always a info to-
I guess I'm not at that point yet
I just flashed CWM and then flashed a ROM, which was to install via 5. USB Flasher and some sort of installer on PC - before I tried to install a ROM via CMW and that didn't work.
Well, now I have a ROM on it, SU is on it as well but I don't have root access.
Looks like a pretty old ROM. Froyo 2.2 with HTC Sense 2.1.
But my question now is: How to gain root and if I've done that, can I just flash a different rom (for example the one you suggested) via CWM?
I'm happy, that I have Android on it now but I'd like to have Gingerbread.
(The ROM on it is named DFT_Android and is to be installed via an executable DAF.exe while the device is on point 5 USB Flasher)
And if I can't flash ROMs on CWM, is there a newer ROM which is to be installed like my current one?
and by the way: Thank you very much, your solutions made it work for me
I'll try to flash the ROM you named tomorrow with their instruction of a clean installation

First of all the DFT stock leo is an old and outdated ROM with no root access. Android 2.2 with Sense 2.0 is still very fast, just outdated. And the lack of root is the killer for me.
Secondly, CWM is definitely the way forward, you won't be able to do much without it.
Thirdly, which partition size did you use (first time around)? Too small a partition could cause issues (all of which are of course correctable) so you may want want to check this. As said in the post above, many CM7 ROMs require a 150Mb partition.
If you want a full guide which enables you to flash Android via CWM, see this guide
I'm not sure, but I think I took 150mb. Well, if I flash another rom, I'll just make it 150mb, if it isn't
If I flash a ROM via CWM will I have root on it? Stock ROM has Superuser, but obviously not really useful, maybe because it's outdated, iono...
Another thing is that I only have a 1 GB microSD for the HD2.
Would a bigger microSD be recommended?
I see that now on this old stock rom that a bigger microSD would make sense, since I'm very limited in the number of apps I can install.

Although not necessary, I would definitely recommend a bigger MicroSD. I have a 16GB one on which I can store tonnes of apps, as much music as I want (but I still need all of it for when I'm bored) and plenty of other stuff I may want.
As for the root question, you were unfortunate enough to pick the only ROM in the NAND development section to come without root Everything else has root permissions
Those nand roms are mostly using app2sd or data2sd (think sense roms only) which require an ext3 or 4 partition on your sd (this can all be done with cwm). So 512mb ext partition should be fine for lots of apps. So imo 1gb is enough if you dont want to store lots of music, movies, other roms and 900 backuped apps ;d

Can anyone tell me how to get my Tmobile Hd2 into bootloader after task 29, without working volume keys...???
I'm sorry but I cannot think of any other way to get into bootloader other than holding down the volume key after installing android.

Theres really no way unless you can open it up and fix the volume button.
Thanks guys, now I have cyanogen on the hd2 with root...well, battery life sucks, but I really didn't expect something else and since it's not my main smartphone,I can easily live with that
