So, I just had to see if the usb ports would be good for anything besides USB flash drives. So, I decided to plug in my Logitech VX Nano mouse, and to my surprise it worked right away. In additions I was surprised that the wheel works great for scrolling up and down in the browser. I assume an external keyboard would work as well. Anybody know of any other USB hardware that could be useful?
Thanks for the tip! This is a great substitute for the trackpad while we wait for Asus to resolve the trackpad issues.
Great to hear. I have the same mouse and was wondering if it would work. I prefer to use a mouse when using a notebook on a desk, so this will be perfect.

i tried a microsoft blue mouse and it worked, but lagged around the screen. guess i'll have to try my regular logitech. Probably the blue tech that didn't work well with android.
Just wanted to bring up USB host mode again because I tried to hook my evo up as a mass storage device through USB, and it did't work. This is kind of disappointing. Has anbody been able to do this with their android phones?
tried connecting with my san francisco phone..(CM7 Rom, 2.3)..it works surprisingly well!!! The phone didn't even prompt me to turn on USB..it enables itself!! maybe it's just too happy to find another android device...-_-
mounted under /Removable/USBDisk1/
my logitech wireless mouse with mini USB adapter works fine..

I've found my Zpad running Zpad Clean 2.x supports wired USB mouse through its USB port (next to MicroSD slot), only point and right click works so far but not the wheel. Have not been able to get wired keyboard to work so far.
Neither blue tooth mouse nor keyboard get recognized on Zpad Clean 2.x. Gonna try CM6.1B4 and report back.

Wow, that's like the opposite of what I can do in TnT Lite... I have keyboard, but no mouse.
Is there a way to port the mouse services from the zPad or CM to the TnT Lite firmware? I have no idea what package or software in Android handles the mouse and cursor.
I think CM has Bluetooth hid supports but this is on Nexus One. Have to ask Bekit if his CM port supports this.
So I was playing around on CM 6.1b4 with a USB keyboard over my lunch break. I had called Viewsonic regarding HID devices previously - they said they'd been playing around with a cheap USB keyboard in their lab and had gotten it to work out of the box.
On my test, the keyboard (a stock dell USB keyboard) was detected and able to input keys into open text entry boxes. Problem I ran into was that the 'e' key opened email, 'b' opened the browser, 'l' opened the calendar, and so on. Have to look into whether these can be turned off when a USB keyboard is present.
Viewsonic said they weren't too enthusiastic about a USB mouse as there were no pointing device drivers. Not sure if someone folded something into CM 6.1... more as RC gets picked up for these devices, I guess.
Using zpad 2.2 i can use a usb hub and get mouse keyboard and usb flash drive to work simultaneously, but wheel on mouse does not fuction.

CM6.1B4 has both keyboard and mouse support. TNT lite sees my keyboard but not my mouse. IDK eventually it will all work.
SmartJoy USB to SNES adapter
It would be awesome to have support for this SmartJoy USB to SNES adapter I have.
These are working on my Zpad NVFlash 1202 so far:
1. Dell or Microsoft USB wired keyboards - Apple never works.
2. Wired Logitech mouse - point and click works but not mouse wheel scrolling
3. USB Memory stick - mounted as /sdcard/usbdisk1 or 2.
Using VEGAn beta 3, a Dell USB keyboard seemed to work fine in limited testing. Same goes for the basic Dell USB optical mouse. I didn't have a hub handy to try both at the same time...
I didn't spend much time with it as it was mostly out of curiosity.
Is there anyway to get a wireless keyboard/mouse working. I have a media center keyboard with trackball and nothing happens with just plugging in the USB.
Thats strange, I have plugged in many USB devices and have had no issues with them working, keyboard, mouse etc....are you on the newest firmware?
Yes, I am on the latest firmware but keep in mind I am talking about a wireless dongle for a wireless keyboard and not a usb keyboard. Are you using a wireless keyboard or mouse?
i have an old logitech wireless mouse - works goog, but klicking is a little bit hard to do - doubleklick and no good focus on the mouse.....maybe its my old mouse.....but in the german android-hilfe forums some users have the same issues...
A wireless dongle may either draw too much power or more likely require a funky driver. Does it require a special driver on a desktop system?
My suggestion would be to go with a Bluetooth keyboard, they seem to work well. I just got an Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard lashed up to my A70 today.
Yeah, I imagine it's a driver issue alright. Probably needs a software package to get it running correctly.
I have a wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad that works perfectly. This one is similiar but not the same. I normally have it for my media pc, but it works so well with the archos that I am thinking of buying a new one just for it.
IMO, if you can find a wireless device that works with just plug 'n play on a linux box then there is a good chance that it will work with your Archos.
Good to know guys. I don't think a specific driver is required in windows. I will give it another go.
Thanks for the input guys. I had to insert the usb before booting up and it works. Sure makes typing much much faster. One question though, how do you scroll up and down in Dolphin or any other browser?
Picked up an A500 today after carefully reading through the documentation on Acer's support site as well as the user manual for mentions of USB keyboard support. It says implicitly that there IS support for USB keyboards (just not USB mice yet). However...I can't get a single USB keyboard to work (I've tried 3). Anyone tried this yet and gotten it working? I know the USB slot is working ok, because it reads a thumb drive just fine. Thanks!

I have had no problem with the one USB keyboard I've tried. It's a generic Apple clone from Deal Extreme.
No luck with Bluetooth keyboards though.
i could not get it to work with wireless USB keyboards but it did work with a dell USB keyboard.
it works with a logitech wireless keyboard
(I just realized that this is in the Dev section - mods, please move if needed!)
I tried a Dell keyboard, and it worked. One of the things I really hoped was going to work was the GTab case/usb keyboard combo ...the A500 fits perfectly in this case, even more snuggly than the GTab. I can't understand why it doesn't work.

USB keyboard
Got a case/stand for my vega for £20 of amazon which has a built in usb keyboard, tried it on the iconia works 100%
Actually I think having mouse support would be nicer, maybe in imminent 3.1 release.
KEyboard
I did not have a regular USB keyboard laying around so I tried a PS/2 using a PS/2 to USB adapter and worked perfect.

Just posted in the "Iconia A500 Accessories" forum... I tested the Logitech Cordless MediaBoard Pro for PS3 (bluetooth keybd) and it worked !
Something people may need to note: When I plug a keyboard in while the screen is off, or is locked, it does not work. If I first login, THEN plug in the keyboard (Logitech multimedia USB keyboard) it works great.
i tried some cheap micro keyboard+trackpad combo (about as wide as the tablet in landscape) & had issues. Only time it worked was when I was in the URL bar of the browser, "physical keyboard" showed as an input type option. Anywhere else it just sat plugged in. I may steal my dad's Mac BT keyboard since he doesn't use it. Will clash horribly though
I've got it running on a BT Keyboard/mouse device Works great... I've had issues with the headphones plug not stopping my music... (listen to Hard Rock at work and everyone hears it =(oops).. pull headphones and plug them back in... lots of really little niggles that need to be worked out... hopefully acer will find them all with the update next month!!!

Ohhhh! I've always wondered about that keyboard! Does the trackpad work? How's typing with that keypad?
Touch pad works great for pc and playstation 3... etc... but for the acer it does nothing... Arrows work to get from item to item typing works great... I believe an update will/can allow mouse...
FYI... this device comes with it's own bt usb adapter that is really weak however, when connected to a bluetooth device has decent distance.

How's the hardware? Solid? Connectivity in and out? And how easy/difficult was it to pair? I've read that a lot of these no-name devices don't come with specific instructions on pairing.

Pairing was as simple (on my samsung epic) as searching for devices.
1. push the bluetooth button till the light blinks
2. Search for devices
3. type in a passcode on phone/device
4. type that passcode on the keyboard
I think this is how it was done... worked really well first time to my epic... easily connected on my a500 too. I love the keyboad it works with my entertainment pc that has sagetv on it so controlling the 47" from the couch is awesome.
edit: Hardware is really solid and the bt usb device slides into the keyboard... really convenient
I managed to pair with my Apple wireless KB but no love for typing.

Can I use a Bluetooth mouse for my EEE Pad Transformer?
If so, any suggestions as to which one to get?
Thanks!!
Oh and one other question.. with the dock can you use a wireless mouse (i.e. plugin the dongle into the dock usb port)?
Yes you can. I've been using my Microsoft mini notebook mouse which is just straight bluetooth (doesn't even come with a dongle) - worked absolutely fine right off the bat.
My only issue is that the moment is a bit slow for my liking, and there's no setting to change the cursor movement speed.
Apple Magic Mouse should work fine..
If you want a cheap option and have a Fry's nearby I've found that this Inland bluetooth travel mouse works great with the Asus Transformer. The catch being that it didn't work a bit prior to the 3.1 OTA upgrade but after that it's been working great. It's a nice portable size and pretty adequate for as much as I use it.

Good luck,

I bought cheapest bluetooth mouse out there (the producer is Manta or sth like that) and it work fine, very fine.
I am using my Logitech mini mouse from my Laptop and pluged into the USB it works fine.. I am thinking that a Bluetooth mouse would be kinda nice though..

Has anyone managed to get a bluetooth mouse to work just with the pad,i.e no dock involved at all? I ask as I have a very fancy ms bluetooth mouse but my TF wont see it as it hasn't got the drivers which are added to my laptop which , obviously, are designed for windows and not android..not sure how to get around this issue short of buying the dock and just plugging into the usb with a cheapo corded mouse which kinda defeats the object of what I'd like to do

I'm using the least expensive one I could find, a Gigabyte I got from Newegg. Turns out it's nicer than any other bluetooth I've tried. I got it to use with the pad and it pairs and works fine with or without the dock connected.
There are no drivers for android for any mouse, so as far as I know there's no way to map the buttons. There is however a setup section for the mouse where you can adjust the cursor speed.
edited to add: doh! - I just noticed how old this thread is. I had done a search and this was near the top. I guess I forgot where I was.

Doesn't work for me.
Hi,
I am happy with the Mojo, and are using it mostly for media.
To control, I am using a wireless keyboard with irda adapter connected to the usb v2 port.
Now want to use it for gaming at the same time off course.
The problem is when connecting the gamecontroller in usb v3 port.
Sometimes wifi stopped working, and the keyboard loses connection as well.
Have you tried keyboard (with mouse) and the gamecontroller at the same time?
What are your experience and what type of keyboard are you using?

I use this BT2 keyboard/mouse combo
Works well, Just have to hit esc to get out of virtual keyboard.
Both paired and connected at the same time.
Both time out but come back on with no problems.
I usually have MOJO set up in a desktop setting with a wired keyboard/mouse connected to a USB hub, which in turn, is connected to the MOJO. Also played around with a few wireless keyboard/mice. No issues with having keyboard/mouse/etc connected at same time as the CTRLR's USB dongle. The only problem is getting used to the virtual keyboard disappearing if a keyboard is connected.
To note, I use one of our Mad Catz RAT's that has on-the-device DPI adjustment, letting me adjust pointer speed on the fly.
Performed a backup using Titanium and then connected the irda keyboarb in the usb 2.0 usb port.
Worked without any problems this time

I keep a logitech wireless mouse handy. When I need it I just plug in the dongle to the 2.0 port on back. No issues using the mouse or CTRLR simultaneously.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to have the virtual keyboard hide while I use my bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo. I am using a logitech Mediaboard Pro which was built for the ps3. It doesn't connect with a dongle , it is true blutooth. I'm not sure if that makes any difference with how it effects hiding the virtual keyboard or not. I have been connecting to it with in the settings, blutooth menu. I have tried a couple of the Null keyboard apps in Google play with no luck. Anybody have any suggestions.
Can someone please recommend a decent bluetooth keyboard with touchpad. No usb dongle.
Thanks
The next firmware update should help with that issue - we're hoping to release it very, very soon.

Bluetooth combo keyboards/mouse generally don't come with USB adaptors.
So, I think any BT2 (classic) keyboard will work, mine works fine (a bit too small) but as Nate says have to escape out of the virtual keyboard.
USB keyboard doesn't do this.

I've posted the link to the latest firmware update here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647180
Install that and it should sort the onscreen keyboard issue as Bluetooth keyboards will now correctly detect as physical keyboards.

Thanks, did the update and I'm really glad by the better support to blutooth keyboard. Now the mojo will remember my blutooth after rebooting. Also I noticed the word suggestion at the bottom of the screen. Is there a quick method of inserting the suggested word other than using the mouse to pick it. Thanks
