If I leave the phone to go into screen stand by, the whole phone turns off.
Power saving is off. Rooted successfully using technique listed in development section.
Is there any way to stop this?
EDIT: Fixed it, turns out it doesn't like the SetCPU powersave profile being set on screen off (200-200Mhz, priority set to 100).
found this myself, did you manage to get it working with setcpu screen off profile?

For some reason my device has suddenly started switching to the minimum backlight setting whenever it's switched on. If I go to the backlight settings and then adjust the slider it will stay at the selected brightness until it switches off. When it switches back on again it's at minimum brightness and I can hardly see the screen!
This started happening after I installed and then removed PocketZenPhone.
I don't really want to hard-reset the device unless I absolutely have to - does anyone know what registry key sets the default switch-on brightness?
Thanks,
I dont have the solution but I have had the same problem intermittently. Can be really aggravating in the dark because it can be hard to get to the proper screen to increase the backlight. Hasnt happened in a while. Have not been able to figure out what triggers it. Have not installed PocketZenPHone. Curious if anyone has an explanation.
yah, i've noticed this to, sometimes i'll hit the power button to take it off standby and the backlight would be off. first couple of times it scared the hell out of me cuz i thought the screen had broke or burnt out.
also i noticed the version of spb pocket plus i'm using (3.04 build 4195) doesnt adjust the backlight brightness.
Now that you mention it. the SPB Pocket plus backlight does not work for me either. Strange...
Well I think I've managed to "fix" this by setting the following;
Backlight Settings:
On battery power, turn off backlight if device is not used for [5 min]
Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped
Power Settings
On battery power: Turn off device if not used for [3 minutes]
I think the key thing here is to have the device auto-switch-off BEFORE the backlight timer kicks in. Since setting the above three settings I have not had the same problem again.
Ill give it a try as well.
Hmm...maybe someone can help me. One day, my backlight timer settings when the PDA's not plugged in reset to 10 seconds (in the registry it has it as 7 seconds). I'll go in and change it to 2 minutes (the original setting I had it at), but the minute I turn it off, it resets back again to the 10 seconds setting. I even tried going into the registry and changing it, and it resets it back to 10 seconds. I suspect it may have something to do with an entry in the "scheduled tasks" but it looks like a complete mess. Is there some kind of scheduled tasks cleanup utility?
Thanks,

hello i have the same problem using phothet with WM6
Thanks
Nicolas
I had the same problem often about 15 months ago - it happened often each day.
I posted herw but had no joy with a solution - but then found one on Modoco (i was looking about March/April 2006).
Even with that - it has still done if perhaps five or six times since - and basically makes the phone unusuable if it happens somewhere or time with poor light.
My KJam backlight keeps changing by itself to dark
Suddenly my KJam backlight always turns to low without me doing so, then I have to change it to high, barely can see what I’m doing as it is almost black. This is kept happening especially after I installed Pocketweather. I reinstalled the Rom, it worked fine then suddenly it is back again when I switch the screen off, or automatically it is switched off, the backlight slider I find it at the lowest end.
Why thus is happening, it’s driving me crazy, please help me
Please bear with me as this may be a dumb newbie question. I searched every post on the Imagio section here and at PPC and was unable to find an answer.
Got the Imagio for my wife and she's loving it (we had Storms previously- bad, bad mojo). She uses Groovefish to stream music and the stock dimmer setting will shut down the player after the time limit is reached. No problem, right? Changed the setting to stop this (never auto shut down on battery power).
Now, the screen will dim somewhat when left idle, but never shuts down all the way. It's dim but still active. She's been having to change the setting every time in order to not kill the battery.
Should the screen power down all the way while leaving the device active (like hitting the "shut off screen option" after holding the end button)? If not, is there a way to do this?
Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide. I've done nothing but Blackberries for years and this is my first real foray into WinMo.
Try to check the power settings. Go to the Settings Tab and push All settings at the bottom. From there go to System > Power > then click the Advanced tab. That should have settings to turn off the screen after 1 min or 30 seconds.
Thanks for the quick reply. I probably should have been a bit more clear.
It is in that menu that I have been manipulating the settings. There are two options for battery power. There is one to "turn off backlight" after x amount of time, the other is to "turn off device". With backlight set to 30 (or whatever) and device disabled, the screen never completely goes off.
It functions properly with "turn device off" enabled, but interrupts Groovefish when playing. This does not interfere with the native TF3D media player. While its not the end of the world if she ends up having to change that setting to use the program, it would be nice to be able to disable the screen with a partial shutdown (and extra battery drain when using that application).
Cheers!
Thats interesting, seems like its the program thats doing that. I have Opera, FM radio, email client, etc. running all day without it crashing. I have seen this before with Internet Explorer where i would leave it running connected to a website. then when i check back IE is gone and i have to start it again. By any chances is this a website or an installable app that you are using?
Groovefish is a streaming music client that is installed on the device
BTW, it is incredibly cool if you don't have it yet. Stream just about any song you want for free (legally).

I use g-trigger to shake my phone to turn off the display works great! Just disable the shake to turn it back on.
I'll give it a shot and see if the application stays running. Many thanks!
Actually I think backlight off is happening when it "dims". You need the screen to go off, not just the backlight. Try using xdaShutdown to go into Lightsout mode and see if that works for you. The program can be found here:

Skins in the same thread as well.
For some reason my screen just dims instead of turning off when I dont use the phone. If I press the hang up button it goes off like normal but if I just set it down it dims and stays on, draining my battery... Has anyone else experienced this?

I take it you've already checked your backlight settings in Settings, Power ?
Yes and I have done a soft reset as well. I'm not really a "phone guy" so I hope this is something easy to fix....
Hello,
The way I have my device setup to get round this problem is this:
Go to Settings>Sound&Display> then scroll down until you see Display then click on Backlight.
On the page that appears, scroll down to "On Battery Power". Here put a tick in the box "Dim Backlight..." and set the time you want to allow before this function kicks in (mine is set at 2 mins).
Next, move down to "Turn off Device..", put a tick in here, and then set how long you want the device to stay on for before it goes off (mine is set at 3 mins).
You can use whatever time settings you feel comfortable with. Please note that it is the setting for "Turn Device Off..." that will blank your screen for you. The other setting simply dims it and leaves it running, as you have said before.
If battery performance is an issue for you, take the tick off "Automatically adjust backlight" and put in your own settings. So here, for example, I have my backlight on battery permanently set at 30% and on External Power, 60%.
The screen is so big you get blinded at anything above 60% (well at least I do).
Hope this helps.

screen not turning off...during call via BT-headset
Hi guys!
My screen does not turn off even during phone call via Bluetooth-headset.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks!
anyone?
This may be more of a general WinMo problem, but since the device I am using is an X2, I guess I'll put it here.
Recently, a friend of mine gave me a proto X2 to play with, but never got to play with it until the day before yesterday. But I found that the device does not go into standby mode.
When I try to put it in standby mode, the screen would flicker (off then on) but would stay on.
I figured there was something set in the registry that made it stay awake, but I already matched up the registry settings with the original X2, but it didn't do anything.
The keys I matched up were:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Power
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SysteCurrentControlSet\Control\Power
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight
Also, I can only get the screen/backlight to turn off under two circumstances: on a reboot or if I go into the Backlight settings and turn on the "Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or screen is tapped" option, and then turn it off again - and I would have to do this every time I want to turn off the backlight. If I have the "Turn off device after: _ mins." option checked in the power options, the screen would wake when it reaches the timer to go into standby. So it seems calling the suspend function wakes the screen but doesn't suspend the device afterward.
So any advices?
Since it's a proto, I can't hard reset or clear the system memory. I also can't ask the person who gave me the phone since he's not really a techie and I don't know where he go it.
Hi All,
I have been having trouble with the phone.
The screen has been turning on by itself and not turning off. The screen will not turn off until i hit the power button. It will not turn off until the phone is out of battery.
Is anyone else having this problem?
thanks!
Want to bump this up ... having the same issue. I've uninstalled nearly every app (at least the ones I'd think would be problematic) and it's still happening. I've downloaded Spare Parts today to see if I could figure it out but I don't have enough data yet.
Anyone else have this issue? Even when I press the lock button, I sometimes need to press it multiple times to get the screen to turn off.
I too am having this problem and boy does it suck battery lol

Do you guys have power saving mode enabled or disabled? Just curious, since that's one of the only things (in addition to message notifications) that affects the screen.
can it have anything to do with automatic updates?
i never had this issue. before or after root. i just rooted two days ago
I had this problem before and after root. I also did a factory reset and I thought it was fixed ... but now it's doing it again.
Happens w/ Power Saving mode enabled and disabled.
I've figured out a semi-solution to this which seems to be working:
With Advanced Task Killer:
Enable Auto Kill Frequencey "When screen off"
Set Auto Kill Level to "Aggressive"
Set Security Level to "Medium"
Don't forget to put any apps you don't want killed in the ignore list (like WidgetLocker, your music player, etc.)
This seems to keep the screen locked for me ... but I still can't figure out what app/process is the culprit in waking the screen when it goes to sleep.
