Every firmware have a letter code.
With that code we can check what kind of landcode on the firmware is.

Maybe this will clear up the confusion in this forum around JI6.
So according to this naming, JI6 is 2010 September. hmmmmmmmm. last time I checked we are in October.
I do believe you, just pondering about Samsung.

JI6 has been floating about since september.
Thx for this list.
and I guess the last number is hex?
as in JFD?
I have no idea, it wouldn't make sense to go to hex arbitrarily. Although they sure as hell can do it if they wish.
If I were a betting man I would put money on it that letters mean something else entirely. What that is? who knows.

Could be more to it than that. JP3 was Froyo and P doesn't stand for a month at all...

So I am trying to help my friend recover from a semi-brick. Anyway, i am not familiar with the version numbers, and I am worried about picking the wrong one.
The GS was purchased in Hong Kong, so I am assuming that I will need an Asian stock ROM, but can anyone help me figure out which one he will need? Or does it not matter and I can flash it with a European ROM?
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
I wonder what the meaning of the codes of firmware.
Before having the X10 had an i900 Omnia and i regularly participated on MoDaCo forum and we had a basic information given to us by a member who was a great utility for we to knew not whether we had the latest version of roms released.
I leave you here an example:
"
The firmware code is split into individual sections:
i900 - > model designation (SGH-i900).
XX - > region / network carrier designation (XX = Spain - open Market).
G - > release year (E = 2007).
K - > release month (K = November).
1 - > version number.

Or another way to organize things was by date release.
