When I am reading a book and I launch Softkeys home there is a app on the desktop called Reader.apk. When you select it, you go back to the book you are reading. I would like to put this app in my Zeam launcher tool bar, but can't figure out how or if it can be done. When I am in Root Explorer I can see the app under System/App. It is not an app listed when I launch the Applications from Zeam. The only time I see it is when I select Home when using Softkeys.
Any thought on how I can get this app, Reader.apk, to work in Zeam Launcher tool bar??
Thanks
Any suggestions?
Are you running rooted stock and if so what version?

Reader.apk is the stock b&n reader, and is protected from being used outside of the stock experience, including in other launchers. It cannot be copied to work outside of stock and will not appear outside of the b&n interface even tho you are rooted
Thank you, that was all I wanted to know.
I can't believe it took 6 days for someone to give me that simple answer.

Just a heads up if no one knew... Instead of going through the system setting to delete a program, just highlight the icon of THAT game/APP/program and drag to the garbage at the bottom and hold there. You will get a "drop to uninstall" option and vua-la... hope that helps...
The thing is that that only works with apps that we downloaded ourselves. Most of wanna get rid of the apps that came preinstalled. (Which can only be done with root)

Wow, what great timing. I don't mean to hijack your thread haha.
If you don't want to uninstall apps but you don't want to see them in the drawer, then the the newest version of LauncherPro can help (if you already use it)! I literally just updated like 10 minutes ago and it has a feature to hide shortcuts from the app drawer! Best feature evaaaaaar.

Oh thank god!!! i've been waiting for this. I used to ues Advanced Advanced launcher on my G1 until it became obsolete. and since nothing has had that feature..... Im stoked!!!
Woah... +1 for this... nice move by developer, thnx...
I do not own a Kindle Fire yet I understand that Kindle Fire technically runs 2.3. Since sideloading is good to go, has anybody tried running an alternate home screen launcher? I know it won't look at good as a tablet running honeycomb, but at least it will have more tablet look. My wife is on the fence about getting either an Acer A100 or this Kindle Fire. Oh and she is not computer literate and thinks that root is the part of the tree that resides under the ground. Thanks everybody!
I was able to load Go launcher on mine - it looks nice.
My wife is also technically challenged - that said, it's technically her device, she preferred the native launcher - I do too.
Why? For her the ease of 'click to launch' all in one place rather than scrolling through screens.
Fwiw, my kids were able to turn on the device and navigate - the out-of-the-box carousel launcher is quite intuitive.
I found it (native launcher) launched the apps faster, actually - although ymmv - hence my preference for the native launcher.
Interesting, thank you for your time and input regarding this matter. I probably will download the app that will help my wife switch between go launcher and the native launcher app for the kindle. I'm running go Launcher on my SGS II so she should have zero issues customizing it to her likings.
Thanks again for your assistance!
You bet! Glad to help.

I tried Go Launcher, but didn't like it that much. Having used ADW on my Droid for a long time I decided to try it out, and I have to say I much prefer it.
I even have Beautiful Widgets running on it too.
However, a couple of problems I've seen.
1. I can't create folders?
2. There is no GeoLocate (even for WiFi), so I can't get the weather working. Anyone get this working or have any tips?
Passing on a little tip for those that haven't rooted and don't have the Android Market running. Beautiful Widgets requires the Market for themes/skins etc. What I've found is that if I download to my phone, and then copy the contents of /data/beautifulwidgets/scskins, skins and wskins to my Kindle, I am able to select the widgets.
ADW EX works great.
Launcher pro keeps FC.
The only two I have tried.
I just bought the Fire today and it is seriously a tiny tablet without a camera. Pretty cool.
I'm using adw.ex without issue. Only complaint is that you have to.switch back to the kindle interface to browse your books and magazines and custom desktop backgrounds revert to kindle backgrounds after screen unlock.

Am I the only one who seems to love the Amazon backgrounds, and even more so that they change? I for one will try and keep them if we ever get a custom ROM.
With ADW Launcher, and an almost opaque Beautiful Widget Super Clock widget, mine looks fantastic!

In the Beautiful Weather setting, there is a section for location settings. In this section, you can toggle geolocation and manually search for a location. I got it working fine on my Fire with Launcher Pro.

Yep, I got that a short while after posting. I should have posted as much, but as you did, you get the thanks!
Now if only someone could figure out the geolocate stuff...
Zeam Launcher doesn't work for me.
Force Closes.
Tried several different versions.
Anyone get it working?
Wish I could remember which app I was playing with but I don't. The important part that I want to share was that it showed that the Fire internal settings showed that there is a GPS and it's on. Since there really isn't one perhaps that's why apps are having troubles. They query the OS and it's says there is an active GPS yet the data returned from the get GPS location call is worthless so the app gets confused. Whichever app it was that showed the setting also had the ability to turn GPS off. Can't help but wonder if that'd make a difference.

I'm getting force closes with ADW EX. I can't seem to remove it either. Could someone post the trick to remove this application?
EDIT: I got ADW removed, maybe I was using an old version or something.
EDIT 2: I got a later version of ADW to work. The only issue so far is getting the "Kindle" application to execute.
Thanks
YMark, same here - I have ADW running fine, yet the book reader app is not working. Maybe fix permissions and reboot?

If LP is crashing for you, convert it to a system app in titanium backup and reboot. Don't select LP as your default launcher until you are sure it won't crash it you'll end up in a loop and have to adb to remove LP. Ask me how i know

1. I set thumb keyboard as default keyboard but after restarting nook color the keyboard defaults to stock one. I tried swiftkey but having same problem. Please help, it is very annoying it select the keyboard everytime I reboot the device.
2. Another prob is I cannot get some widgets working. They install correctly but do not show up in the add widget menu. Btw, I currently use nemus launcher.
Few widgets that don't work are sense analog by factory widgets, minimalist text widget, and a few other battery level indicatiing widgets.
Is it only me or anyone else having the problem?
I am running cm 7.2 from sd.

At least someone tell me if minimalist text widget or sense analog is working on cm 7.2 or not?

First thing I would try is using a different launcher... see if that is your issue... I'm sure not many use the launcher you are, so it is hard for us to provide feedback/information.

You probably have those Widgets installed to SD. Widgets do not work if installed to SD. Go to settings, applications, manage applications, and choose the app and see if on SD. If it is, choose move to phone.
You might see if those keyboards are also on SD.

This is a hack for anyone who is running stock Amazon OS. For some reason, if you add the Kindle Reading app icon to a third party launcher (Such as Nova, Apex, etc.), it won't launch the app. Instead, to access your books, you must use the stock Carousel launcher to get to your reading library. This command, however, will force the Kindle to display your books.
This has been tested on a KFHD 7" running Stock OS 7.4.3. It should work on the 2nd gen Kindle Fire and the KFHD 8.9" and even Kinology as well.
Some notes:
Root required
You need to have a way to launch command shortcuts from your launcher home screen (for a Laucher Icon)
The stock launcher MUST be installed. The command uses a line from Launcher.apk's Android-Manifest file.
You can also create a command shortcut on the home screen using ROM Toolbox. Enter this command...
Code:
am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.SHOW_BOOKS
or
Code:
am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.internal.SHOW_BOOKS
...and allow it to run commands as root.
The script and a couple screenshots are attached below. Also attached is the Kindle Reading app icon, pulled straight from the app; for anyone who wants to change the image of their homescreen icon.
EDIT: Running the command "am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.internal.SHOW_BOOKS" will show the books already on your SD card, rather than all the books stored in the Amazon cloud.
and if i put this script in int.d?

Honestly? I have no clue
It's not necessarily a performance tweak. It just kind of fires a command when the user triggers it.

Okay. I downloaded ROM Toolbox (after a couple times of rebooting my internet router -_-) and set the script to run at boot. After a few seconds of rebooting, it opened the KindleForOtter.apk. So running this script at boot will immediately launch the Kindle reading app.
I know just enough to be a danger to myself ...

I want to start by saying thanks. This has been driving me nuts and every fix I have seen involves files that are no longer online, as well as moving, deleting, moving again, uninstalling, reinstalling ... this seems to be a pretty simple fix ... but the presentation is a little higher level than I am at. Y'all have kinda glossed over some areas I am unsure of.
I have ROM Toolbox downloaded and have looked all this over ... but I've no idea exactly what to do to put this hack into action. Where do I go in ROM Toolbox to enter the command? I'm guessing once I save this, I can create a shortcut to it and then change the icon. Would y'all be able to give me some more direction, please?

Sure. Assuming you have a different launcher installed, go to your widgets and select "Command Shortcut". Place it wherever, and in the "Command:" field, enter the command. Name it whatever you want, and once it's on your home screen, you can change the icon by holding it and selecting "Edit" and then tapping the icon.

Thanks. Sometime after I posted my query above my reader on the Kindle stock screen stopped working ... and in trying to figure out what I'd done, which at the point had been nothing, I somehow lost my root and ended up with a reset. Now I'm trying to clear everything out, since the reset leaves a lot of residue behind. Once I fix my mess I'll be back to try this out.
Edit: Fixed my mess. Second of two command lines from the hack worked. Now I'm just trying to get the icon the way I want it. Thank you all for your help.

Yes I also tried this, I did it from a diffent link but the launcher actually runs off the Google search app so it should be the same experience and its great, only thing I don't like is the fact that when I hold down apps to move them on the home screen when in landscape the tablet flips orientation and it is annoying. Everything works in portrait though.

I have a solution for that ,
When you open app in landscape mode , touch the navigation buttons button then pull down the notification bar and lock the auto rotation, it should be stop rotating.

Thanks, I've already paid for that app and while nice, I still prefer the stock app switcher button. The aosp rom would've been best, I'd even take CM if we ever get either of those working well.
New to all of this custom rom and rooting stuff so please excuse me if some of my questions aren't good.
Do I need to root and use a rom slot to run this or can I just use it as a launcher and still get widgets/wallpapers to work?

This is because HDX has a "reverse orientation" compared to most tablets. So what happened is the app rotate to what was "normal" landscape, then autorotate 180 to proper landscape.
There's a patched launcher that implements the reverse orientation that's a part of the HDX Gapps V2 (forgot which topic) but I have a feeling that this may need to be an Xposed module that "patch" the launcher itself.
