Fring Upside down front facing camera - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there I have cm7 RC 7.0.2 and when I use fring to video call my front facing camera comes upside down. Anyone has an idea of a fix.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App

Changing the following lines in /system/build.prop worked for me:
ro.product.manufacturer=Samsung
ro.product.model=Nexus S

I have the same problem with my HTC Evo running CM7. Should I still use the fix My2Sense recommended?

Yes. I believe Fring assumes from the phone model that it's running Sense camera, and turns the image one step more. When running AOSP, it ends in a wrong position. The same (in reverse) happens with Gtalk (made for AOSP) and Sense ROMs.

My2sense's fix worked for me...htc evo using cm7

How do I get to those files he mentioned?

How to change the build prop?
1) make sure you have root access and are s-off
2) make sure you have ADB up and running (see my signature for a simple way)
3)
Code:
adb pull /system/build.prop c:\adb [or tools folder for SDK]
4) navigate to that file and open it with a notepad.
4) make the necessary changes and make sure to save it
5)
Code:
adb remount
6) from the folder you saved the modified build.prop
Code:
adb push c:\build.prop /system/
7)
Code:
adb reboot
that will pull the build.prop to your computer so you can change it..
Then push it back to the correct file so it will think you are using a ______phone

is this the only way to apply this fix? anyone have a pre made apk or patch i can download?

im use miui rom and my camera its the same up side down ? any help please

I dont think this fix is targeted at a specific rom. Try doing the edit to build.prop and see if it works and make a backup to revert to if it dont.

hwo to edit the build.prop? can u explain it by step by step ?

I just used root explorer to edit the file directly on the phone. Make a copy first just in case

I can confirm this works on an HTC Thunderbolt running SynergyROM.
Thanks!!

Okay...what change should be made to those lines? Sorry for the obvious question, but I am missing something here...located the lines on rootexplorer, just need to change them.
Any help would be much appreciated.

just push via adb... it works 100% first open shell and mount /system and then push the files as descriped in first post.
Go to shell?
Kind of a newbie when it comes to codes and commands, just need a push in the right direction

I´ve editet the first post. you have to push in adb while the desire must be in recovery mode.
"adb push "directoryof the file u loaded"/com.htc.resource.apk /system/framework"
Don't you mean com.htc.resources.apk?
Works great here.
yeah it's working, very beautiful, big thanks,

I don't see the little green trackbar that's on the original phone and programs button.
Meh that's a minor detail though isn't it.
Well, yeah it is. But I just got my desire and I'm planning on designing some themes for it. Just trying to work out what can be skinned and what can't.
Have some ideas on what I would change the green trackbar to but none yet as to how to change it!
would it be possible to edit the right shortcut? instead of add widget a internet link would be nice

What version do you currently have?
Did it come with your rom or did you download it?
You can backup your settings (export) to your sdcard and restore (import) with the new version if by chance your settings are not preserved.
Im using CM 5.0.8 ,and it came with 0.8.9.
And how do i go about doing that export/import?
Either download link from your phone and install or download on PC put on SD card open file manager and install are easiest. Put it on a friends phone. Looks good. Backup and restore are in settings adw.

Do a search for ADW.Launcher in the Market, it's there. Just make sure you have a period in between "ADW" and "Launcher."
Hey,
I'm interested in updating the ADW.Launcher version that came with my CM5.0.8 rom, but I don't know if it's OK to update through market or get the apk file and use "adb install" or find a zip file to flash...
Could anyone make some light in here pls?
Thanks!
I have tried downloading the apk file for my CM5x and MDPI device from Anderweb's page but when I tried to "adb install" I get...
INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS
Can someone shed some light? Is there a way to update the ADW.Launcher that comes with a specific ROM version?
Tried using android commander?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Since I'm new to this scene, what is the difference between the "adb install" method and using the Android Commander (which I need install)?
Would Astro help in this case, because I remember reading that has support for installing apk files?
I'd like to do this update as clean as possible.
Thank you for the reply!
PS: I have actually installed Android Commander and installed the ADW.Launcher apk for CM5x MDPI as an Update (wasn't sure what to chose between Private, Application or Update) and the installer said it was successful but after reboot I still have the old version 0.8.6
Any ideas?
U can download it put it on your sdcard and install with a file manager. Doesn't matter which way u go. Should work. Done it both ways
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
I did it somewhat the way you said and installed it with Android Explorer as an update because the regular installation would fail with the error that the application already exists.
The problem is that the new version gets copied into /data/apps/ and I can start using it but after the first reboot it's not there anymore and I get back to the one that came with my CM5.0.8 rom which is in /system/apps/
I would really like to get a solution that would update the one in /system/apps/ which might be harder because it's a memory mapped version of the ROM and changes get lost after reboot.
Please correct me where I am wrong...
Have u tried goin to the market and installing it from there? It's like version 1.4.1 or something now
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
place the file on your /sd.
adb push /sdcard/filename.apk /system/app
restart home or reboot phone.
I ended up installing the one from Market and making that the default launcher, but I would really like to just replace the one in the system folder - no need to keep 2 versions of the same app
I'll try the method NetrixTardis was suggesting.
U can do it through the terminal as well. Maybe removing the old one will solve it. Use the rm command in the terminal and see if u can do it that way. Ex.
$su (enter after each line)
#rm /system/app/(name of app.apk)
Then u can use cp command to copy the one from your sdcard.
Cp /sdcard/(app.apk) /system/app/
Someone correct me if I'm wrong in the lines
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
hey johnson8cyl
I'll try that and let you know if it worked, should I copy it to the same name?
like /system/app/adwlauncher.apk is the name for the system app, while the Market installed one is org.adwlauncher....apk
do you guys know a good keyboard replacement and a way to configure the vibration alarm on my CM5.0.8? these are mostly the things I miss from my stock ROM
oh...forgot to mention the CM5.0.8 default camera does not have all the setting (like I can't set the ISO), is there one that does that trick?
thanks!
I'll answer the keyboard part. I've got Smart Keyboard installed and its a lot better than the stock Android one.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
U have to use the names exactly the one your removing and one your copying. Names have to be what u want to remove or copy. That make sense?
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Makes total sense to keep the same names only that I have this problem...
any ideas? kinda makes sense because that comes from the ROM and is mounted as read-only
# su
su
# pwd
pwd
/system/app
# rm -f ADWLauncher.apk
rm -f ADWLauncher.apk
rm: can't remove 'ADWLauncher.apk': Read-only file system
ps: I actually managed to fix this what was missing is "adb remount" to mount system partition read-write
So you figured it out? Were you able to get it removed and replaced?

[Script] AutoInstall new camera [Hastarin 8.5.1 + new cam libs]

Mods: If you think this should go in general section feel free to move it, thanks.
I built a script that will install the new camera (nexus based), it will replace all necessary files to get the camera working as well as hastarins 8.5.1 modules (to get wifi working and all) and finally liblights and libhtc_ril_wrapper (might be overkill, but it works)
Instructions: Unzip CamScript folder to SD Card (anywhere is fine) and then as su (adb shell or terminal emulator, anything you use to run bash scripts is ok) run cam_install.sh
Note: It will replace zImage in either /sdcard/HD2ONE or /sdcard/Android; it will not work if you have a kernel in a folder different to those so edit your startup.txt file if necessary.
Credit goes to hastarin for the kernel and camera files
-OCM
V1.5: Everything should work now, i've tested on stock HD2ONE_Latest. Backup versions of all modified files are saved in /data/cam_backups.
Good job

Thanks for the script,
Noticed that in the Replace_Libs function you copy liboemcamera.so to libcamera.so.old overwriting the other libcamera.so.old!!
I'm guessing you don't want to do that??
I've just tried this on my JDMS 1.5 that already had Hastarin8.5.1 old camera and my Andorid wouldn't reboot.
Anyone got any tips on troubleshooting non-restarting phones??
I've got the HTC splashscreen and I can adb into the phone but from there on I'm a bit lost.

Really thanks, anyway tomorrow (now its late night here) i'm going to reinstall the latest HD2ONE build and then applying your script again (still if you told me how to manually add all the stuff it would be better for me)
Uploaded the fixed version, worked on stock HD2ONE_Latest, so it *should* work on other builds but i cant guarantee this. If you're stuck on boot screen you can try running this new script and see if it works, if it doesnt replace system.ext2 with stock from your build then run the script. Sorry about the initial errors...
So, I used your 1.5 script and this time managed to reboot back into Android.
Everything seemed fine except that my camera still had a green tinge when used with the flash.
THEN I realised that I still had the root directory in the Android folder. So assumed/guessed that the libs were being oerwritten by those in the root folder.
So I renamed root to root_old, re-ran your script, rebooted.
Hung like a mule!!
Restoed original JDMS 1.5 system.ext2, rebooted fine.
Except now my accounts don't sync, my camera takes a picture then hangs
I will get it all back thanks to Titanium Backup
--
Looking at your script it's what I've always been doing to install new Kernels. The green tinge was there when I first tried Hasatrin 8.5.1
The only thing that you do different is include a build.prop file (which is wildly different from mine BTW).
So, my question, is it something in the build.prop that is stopping the grren tinge? If so, what??
TIA
as far as i know, this new lib file in CM or MIUI build make camcorder freeze..does it? or does it not?
I have a weird problem: when i'm in terminal emulator, then su (#), but when i try to type run cam_install.sh it says....run: not found......i think it doesnt recognize the run command..is it possibile??
Is there a way to avoid using this script and SIMPLY manually put all the needed files in the correct directories??
Thanks in advance!!!
P.S. I'm doing that in a HD2ONE stock unmodified latest build...

Try
Code:
./cam_install.sh
there is no 'run' command in linux. Programs are executable and are run by just typing their name.
Of course the file has to be chmod'd to be executable too, but the ./ gets around that mostly.
It didn't work with HD2ONE-0.3.3.RC2

Since everyone is having such a hard time getting it to work here are the manual instructions:
Replace your current kernel with hastarins 8.5.1
Replace Camera.apk in /system/app
Replace libcamera.so, liboemcamera.so, libOmxCore.so, libOmxVdec.so, libOmxVidEnc.so in /system/lib
Optional but recommended: replace lights.qsd8k.so in /system/lib/hw and rename or remove /system/lib/hw/lights.htcleo.so also replace libhtc_ril_wrapper.so in /system/lib
replace bcm4329.ko, tun.ko and cifs.ko in /system/lib/modules
place 99complete in /system/etc/init.d and chmod it to 755 (important!)
replace build.prop to fix green tint (I got it from the green tint fix thread and just replaced some lines to match CM6)
reboot
Also, i said these libs were nexus based so if your build is desire based it simply wont work

On Linux: well, you know whats up
On MAC: unplug the computer and toss it out the window.. j/k. This wont work for you though. Follow normal procedure to use ADB in your teminal
Inside CMD Prompt, in this order:

Many many thanks! This needs to be in new thread. please post it or I will.
I really liked the darkside ROM, But I soft bricked my phone at least 15 times trying Arabic letters connecting solutions under 2.3.5. So I flashed the Aura ROM missing the quick panel from the Darkside ROM the most.
Not only I have the quick panel now with Aura 2.3.4, the icons also look cleaner/better.
Great job. Thanks to you and Nottach also!

It's just the latest Aura ROM (found in the development section) + this awesome quick panel MOD.
Aura is based on 2.3.4. I noticed that arabic fonts were connecting properly in the system+browser with Aura ROM as-is. No framework.jar or lebwebcore.is hacks are needed with that ROM.
Root+Battery % icons MOD+No carrier logo MOD+proper Arabic font connecting+this quick panel MOD is pretty much what I want now in my Atrix. Currently happy to have all that.
Not to mention a lot of other plus features Aura ROM adds.
Hi,
I was using this mod on 2.3.4 and it was great! Just upgraded to Android OS 2.3.6 (att build 4.5.141) and it just boot loops until I replace it back with the original. Is there any way to modify this to work on 2.3.6? Or, is there a version around that I'm not finding that will work on 2.3.6?
Thanks!

yup, I was referencing it from GB...unless the CM9 developers would include it in their future releases the only other option would be to flash GB settings , if you badly need this feature.
Im missing that feature also badly on my GT9100 S2. Isn’t there any other way to get this work, than to wait for the developers to notice that this feature is missing for Samsung Users. There must be hundred thousands of them.
If the code was pulled from the open commits from CM and brunched into a working build, it would be located in Settings/Accessibility. At least, it is on my cm9 rom I made for the HTC Rezound.

Ok, I don't know exactly how complicated that would be, but I think it's a little bit out of my league.

the only other option would be to flash GB settings.

Is there like a settings.zip, that i just extract from the rom file, and then flash it in recovery ? or is it more complicated than that ?
edit: could I just swap the "settings.apk" in system\app directory in the rom file, using 7zip as extractor ?

you should use root explorer to do this , first do a nandroid backup in CWM ( in case it fails you can restore in CWM) when you want to try, Note the permissions of current settings.apk, rename current as .bak, copy paste new settings.apk, fix permissions and exit using exit menu ( not back button) and reboot

No problem. Do any of you know someone who can compile cm9 for this device? I can tell them how to pull the open commit from Cyanogenmod Gerrit code review's open commits.. Did it myself today for this "Home to answer calls" option. Let me know
For the one that can do it, give them this:
It's a two part commit. This one will go in Frameworks/Base:
git fetch http://r.cyanogenmod.com/CyanogenMod/android_frameworks_base refs/changes/56/20756/1 && git cherry-pick FETCH_HEAD
and this one will go in packages/apps/Settings:
git fetch http://r.cyanogenmod.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Settings refs/changes/57/20757/2 && git cherry-pick FETCH_HEAD
Build the rom with those two cherry picks and you have yourself the "home key to answer calls" option.
