[Q] CM7 Nightly and ADW EX - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else having an issue with the screen transition effects in ADW EX? I'm running CM7 Nightly Build 60 on my MT4G and one of the only problems I'm having is the screen transitions lag like crazy, stuttering or just skipping the animation altogether and flashing to the next screen. If I set it to default transition, it slides over just fine. This is my first time using CM, so for it to be my only technical issue so far is not bad, but still I bought EX almost completely for the transition effects.

I have the same problem, using the latest stable and ADWex. I assumed it was normal for the transitions to lag, and am more of a fan of speed, so I disabled them.

I'm thinking of going back to Iced Glacier. That worked flawlessly.

Odd..Go Launcher EX (which I thought was kanged from ADW) doesn't stutter and is free.

Can anybody try this and check if it is making the home screen lag?
I have tried using it on Launcher pro Plus /ADW EX /Stock Gingerbread Launcher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975413
Also please mention what ROM/Launcher/kernel you are using.
So far no problems. Running it at 45fps using GingerMex FAST 1.0.1 (with Flippy's kernel) and Go Launcher EX.
Hmmm...ok let me try it on a similar Setup. From the looks of it. I think it is a CM7 related 2D driver issue.
Thanks a ton for he feedback.
Now if anyone would be kind enough to try it out on a Stock HTC Desire Z ROM / CM7 with Stock Kernel / CM6 / VIrtuos.
I wanna figure out if its just me who is facing issues. Have already tried CM7 with stock kernel and Virtuos.
What's the problem you're having with it? Bad lag?

Exactly... lag between homescreen transitions. Are you experiencing the same?
The wallpaper itself seems to be slow, i haven't noticed any massive lag or screen issues though...
overall a lil bit slow on cm7, but the main problem is the bad looking of your graphics.
Yeap...its very slow on my opinion. Not the wallpaper itself but i makes the Homescreen go slow..dont know how else to out this.
The latest version is just amazing. Fixes almost every issue.
Check it out guys.

What ROM are you currently using?

This thread is pretty self-explanatory. I just thought I'd create it to see what other people besides me were using and why. Anyway, I don't know why I haven't seen any other thread like this, although I have a feeling someone's going to come and egg my house for this for some reason.
Right now I'm using faux123's AOSP Gingerbread ROM just because I like the speed and fluidity of AOSP.
Im Using UD. Its a pretty great rom but im getting tired of gingerbread and its little flaws for our mytouchs. Like the ffc for video chat being upside down and the lack of apps able to run properly
Everything? Right now RG 1.6. In about an hour probably fauxes AOSP to try to fix some stuff... (of mine that's broken.... not fauxs.. don't freak out).

I've tried most of them, but always find my self coming back to CM7 (7.0.2 currently). I want so badly to run Faux's ASOP, but he stripped out the notification bar power widgets... and I am not sure I can live without them!
Currently using CM 7.0.2
CM7.0.2
I want to love the cm7 releases and they do work well but battery life seems to be much shorter than it is when using RoyalGinger. Anyone else have the same experience?
Running eViL's 4G-HD DesireHD port. I found out that when it comes to usability, pure Android is lacking A LOT compared to Sense (specifically - contacts/dialer, Exchange mail, browser), I'm tired of Gingerbread quirks, and I don't like the T-Mo Sense skin too much, so I'm running the pure Sense version.
As of a few days ago, running cm7 latest "stable" build. It's the first post-stock rom I've run, and I love it! So far very happy with the seemingly faster smoother experience, and battery so far seems much better than stock. I might get around to trying Royal's as I hear it's even faster and better with battery, but I'm wary of constant flashing lol, I just want a solid steady rom to use as my daily, and so far cm7 running LPP over it has made me happy

I felt the same way until trying Launcher Plus Pro (LPP) - no it's not Sense, but offers many similar sense-like widgets that in my opinion actually work BETTER than their sense counterparts, i.e. the "Friends" LPP widget is SO much faster than Friendstream, and serves the same function, and LPP's calendar widget is much more efficient, you get both grid and agenda in one widget. Add to the widgets the far-superior customizable dock and I haven't looked back. Only drawback to running an AOSP rom over sense is the phone-related ui elements definitely suck, i.e. the dialer screen, etc. Overall though, totally worth the shift for me.
Royal Glacier v1.3. Its all in my signature. Fast and smooth with all the mt4g features available, great on battery life and performance and love the theme also.

There are widgets in the market that do the same thing.
Faux's ASOP here. It's damn near perfect for me.
running royalglacier 1.3, its fast smooth, and gets awesome battery life. I have yet to try out any gingerbread roms, kinda waiting for the offical update, which may or may not come.

I'm not using Sense for the widgets. Actually, I'm not using a single Sense widget on my 7 screens - even though I really like the full-screen weather animation that comes with HTC clock (but not willing to sacrifice half of my main screen for it).
I've been running LPP on stock Android for a long time using various ROMs on my Nexus One, including Gingerbread versions. The obvious parts of the stock-vs-Sense I already mentioned, but there are less obvious parts. The integration with external dialer in stock Android is bad, different screens coming up one after another for checking missed calls, very slow contact photo rendering on long lists, etc. LPP sucked when taking the phone off the charger every morning, having to restart and reload all the screens. Since GB it also sucked, being unable to do zoom-out and show 7 busy screens without hiccups, having to reload caches after every heavy app launch or charging, and scrolling slowly when using really busy screens. So I stopped using it and dropped GB in favor of Sense, and this preference remained when I moved to MT4G (my wife wanted the Nexus, I finally convinced her to move to Android from her antique WinMo).

Cyangenmod 7.1.0 and higher nightlies are slow

Hi, i'm using Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 right now and it really fast.
But when I install Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 or the nightlies, it is really slow.
Switching betweens screens lags really bad.
I use the stock gingerbread launcher btw.
The launcher is very fast on Cyanogenmod 7.0.3
But I want to update to a higher version!
Please help me.
If you think its slow then you may be beyond help. CM is as fast as it gets and no one else complains about slowness or lag.

I found switching from 7.0.3. to the 7.1RC there was some noticeable lag but the nightlies are blazing man, they shouldnt be slow like you're describing. Have you done full wipe before flashing the nightlies?
Sounds like its time for someone to get a new phone. Can't imagine my phone being any faster than it is now though.
Full wipe with the latest nightly.
This is just weird.
I am going to format my sd card and start fresh, see what that does.
Use the superwipe, not just the factory reset. 7.1 RC1 had been the fastest rom I've ever used, seems like something is definitely wrong.

Thank you, I will use Superwipe when I get back from work.
I'll let you know how it worked =)

Just flashed Superwipe and after that the latest nightly.
But still the launcher is slow...
Going back to 7.0.3

The stock ADW launcher is most definitely different than it's paid counter part ADW EX. I have found that the launcher is at times choppy and not really smooth, but when I finally broke down and purchased the paid version, I seen immediate differences.
CM is partial to the open source community, which I also agree with, and ADW stock is open source.
I'm using the stock 2.3 launcher
I had the same thing. Every release since RC1 was lagging, even with ADW EX. Tried everything, superwipe etc, different kernels, radio but eventually I jumped over to Virtuous Unity 1.31.0 with Sense 3.0. Finally my DZ is up to speed again. And on top of that after running almost a year non Sense roms its nice to have the newest Sense release which IMHO looks really slick! Only thing I am missing is column/rows and widget resizing.
But I want Cyanogenmod!
I'm not a big fan of HTC Sense.
I went from CM 6.1 straight to CM 7.1 and the upgrade was definitely noticeable. I use ADW Ex and have no problems with lag or the phone running slow, in fact its much faster than 6.1 ever was.
Also, I run the phone at 1024mhz with a minimum of 245 using the CM cpu speed tool. Ondemand governor.

[Q] Swiftdroid/Openswift 2.2/2.3 slow UI

Is it just me or not.
Basically, stock android launcher lags on those roms unlike Stock LG ROM, Sense ROM or Galaxy ACE roms.
Home replacements resolves scrolling choppiness on homescreens, but open and closing animations still lags.
Does everyone else have this problem or is this just the nature of Cyanogen MOD?
What do you mean?
What do you mean by opening and closing animations? All launchers lag but it depends on how much it lags.
V6 Supercharger script solved that problem..

I used on my GT540 the stock launcher for months, and I was more than happy with it.
Go to ''Spare Parts'' in CM7, to the 2 animation speed settings, and set them both to ''slow'', it's not ''slow'' but it's more fluid.
Also, in settings, try to set the phone to display all animations.
I hope it helps.
CPU
Try changing the 'MINIMUM' CPU speed to 480mhz. It reduces alot of lag.

[static screen wallpaper] more smooth Sense!

hi all!
have been using my phone for half year thought scrolling between home screens on Sense 1.9/2.1 always seemed very sluggish and below average needs. never thought stock launcher of Sense 1.9/2.1 could be capable of disabling scrolling wallpaper nor thought home screens could be as smooth as in good custom launchers :cyclops:
using "static live wallpaper" app from market, there is option to use standard non-live wallpapers.home screen feels hell smooth above 20fps now, anyone tried ?

First, your sense versions are off
Sense 1.9: Known as "old sense". Shipped with the desire, pull down lockscreen, plus button for personalize, etc.
Sense 2.1: First shipped on Desire HD, ported to desire. Ring lockscreen, updated music, email and calendar apps. Had the "palette"style personalize button, added 3D effect to rosie
Sense 1.9, or old sense is not laggy at all. Sense 2.1, yes it is on the desire (compared to the stock old sense)
There were sense 2.1 / 3.0 Hybrids (same framework, updated apps and effects) but NEVER a 1.9 / 2.1 hybrid.
To answer your question, never tried, but if you use a cynogen mod called "no wallpaper" (works great with amoled screens) the speed of the launcher increases, so I imagine a non scrolling wallpaper would achieve the same effect.
aren't an-droid and supernova 2.4.1 roms based on stock old sense 1.9? both roms suffer from low framerate by default( default sense launcher).not talking about cm mods or other launchers...main point is that wallpaper scrolling just degrade sense launcher graphics performance..too much probably and there is no option to disable that in settings menu like go laucher or adw ex..static wall app does his job here
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
I've tried it. It is smooth but only for old versions of sense like 1.9 or 2.0. On 3.5 it is no difference [Runnymede AIO Stable]
as i remember some sense 3.5 roms have option for non scrolling wallpaper already.
but on 2.1+3.0 hybrids makes difference like on old sense
