new owner, cell usage issue

Hi all, new iconia owner. Root experience with phones but not much with tablets...yet. I had done some research for awhile and tried a few tablets. Decide I liked the Acer the best. Only thing was the 3.01 was draining battery with the searching for cell service issue. It seems the 3.1 update fixes this battery drainer? Yes/no?
Stock 3.1 update, yes. Custom 3.1 updates? No (conditionally! See RichardTrip's post below!).

With latest 1.7 kernel for stock/Taboonay or honeyvillain no problem disabling it
just add ro.carrier=wifi-only to your /system/build.prop
thank you!
thanks! great info, helpful as usual from here! enjoying the acer.

Thanks for the tip, works well.
Could you add that to the first post in your kernel thread, please? Very useful information that a lot of people will want to know!
Similarly if you for some unfathomable reason wish to stay on stock 3.0.1 the Acer Iconia Battery Saver ( https://market.android.com/details?id=com.interphaze.AcerIconiaPhoneDisabler&feature=search_result ) on Market will help you disable the cell search.
modify the ro.carrier thing before flash or change after the flash..? Thanks
Couldn't you also turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi? That's what I did and it seems to make sense that it would stop the cell service search.

Well, I personally use airplane mode to turn off wifi when not needed. Then when I want to go back online I just tap on the clock and turn airplane mode back off.

im using a stock room currently, and luckily it does not turns off while im asleep. one thing though, im thinking that its overheating or somehow, or maybe some apps are responsible.
is doing a factory reset advisable in this case? or maybe trying other rooms?

I have encountered problems like this before. I was in school then after school I found of that the morning I turn the phone on silent mode it just turn offs without warning. I think it may be no usage during this period of time make it turn off automatically ?

Well u probably may face bootloop like thing..
just change ur battery
it fix
lock button is the culprit
i have a galaxy y and had a same problem, after changing roms etc , i found that this lock button is damaged..
you may have seen these buttons in tv and monitors etc. they stop working after some time because of dust.
just do one thing to check it:--
just turn it on as the galaxy y logo come start pressing lock button with frequency of about 1/second, you will see it now turned on.
just now press this lock button till the time it actually locks the screen and not show the reboot, airplane mode etc. option just press back and keep on pressing lock button till you get the result.
and then dont use the button to wake the scree instead use home button.
get this button changed as soon as possible, it costed me rs. 100 in gaffar mkt karolbagh.
Dayum
That sure is one evil pocket making the phone turn off like that

system clock bug

hi guys..my first post..as you can read from the title i'm experiencing problems with system clock...using stock o modded firmware like 3.2rayglobe that is on now..
when the phone is in stand-by position the clock stays still..it doesn't work until you wake it up from stand-by...
i also noticed that when the g2 is charging there is no bug even with stand-by
any idea?
thanx in advance
It's not a bug just the way it works. It doesn't need to update while it sleeps. When it's charing it's not sleeping hence it will update all the time.
Welcome to XDA!

Aha! No that's not correct behavior. Something's wrong. Go ask in the thread of the rom you're using.

Anyone knows how to stop the annoying 15% warning message and 5% warning message...

Anyone knows how to stop the annoying 15% battery warning message and 5% battery warning message and lowering the Light as well automatically. I could not care less about the warnings, just so tired of them popping up all the time.
My phone is not rooted - but would be nice to know if there was a way to turn them off.
Thanks.
Battery saver in the settings option you can turn off maybe that will stop the warnings.

There's a mod for that but yes, you have to be rooted.

*Sigh*
I can't root the phone at the moment - but I may try in the future when the Warranty is off which is like very near. So tired of the warning and how difficult could it be to just make an option to turn it off from LG.
You have a link for the place they have the mod?

I know, but I am now rooted on 2 LG devices. So that's not an issue. The question is, is there a Mod in Magisk for it? Or what do I need to do and where do I look.
