[Q] Is there a way to extend the # of screens - Acer Iconia A500

I was wondering if it was possible to extend the # of screens to display more icons.
Other option would be to create folders but is doesn't seems to be possible with Honeycomb, am i wrong?

Good stuff here. I remember seeing versions of Android with 7 screens...

you can install an 3rd party home screen app such as Launcher Pro. It allows you to fully customise your homescreens and add a lot of eye candy. Haven't tried it out on Honeycomb but I've used it on my Xperia X10.

I was more thinking about a native solution but i will try Launcher Pro.
Thanks

Circle Laucher
I use Circle Launcher Light. Its a widget that adds a circle icon on the home screen. You can configure it to display any number of app icons when pressed. You just select which app you want to launch. You can also display a name on the screen circles. I have one set up for each type of family of apps I use. Dor example "Games", "Media", "Readers", etc. I like it. Its free in market.

Tried to download ADW.Launcher from the market without success. Seems to be restricted to non honeycomb systems by google.
If someone can provide an alternate link for the free version, it would be more than appretiate.

+1 for circle launcher! A perfect for honeycomb and a 10 inch screen. My setup is similar and allows two click access to every app I use. The widget displays nearly instantly.

I will buy the first homescreen replacement launcher that has this implemented

Android i good. The scrolling homescreen with widgets is good. Only one thing is terrible: The app launcher. No categories/catalogs i launcher?!
So you have to scroll along xx times until you finally spot the application you're looking for.
Here are suggestions on different solutions:
When you open the app launcher you see custom folders ex. "Office, Games, Multimedia, Utils, Settings". When you install a app, you get a question in what folder to put the app link". Besides the folders in the launcher you can have a option to also see latest run apps.
This solution would show the usual vertical scroll down app list. But with a important twist. A line, or the backgroundcolor is different, when you are scrolling on a different category, + a OSD text stays front telling on what category you are, ex "Work, Entertainment, Hobbies, Health, Internet".
One launcher actually has almost made it, don't know if it's Launcher Pro or ADW launcher. You can have apps in different groups and click between them. Only thing missing is name of the categories so you see where you're at. And option to disable the group "All"
I'm pretty certain that Slick UI will have this when it launches.

To be fair, MIUI doesn't even have an app drawer, it just puts all of your apps on the launcher and you're forced to put every app into a folder.
Hell, vanilla Android has folders, which is exactly what MIUI is using.

If you want categories in your home-replacement. I suggest you head over to my website http://futurinnovations.blogspot.com/ to see what I am working on. If you are a dev yourself, you can help all that you can. It's still a work in progress and I haven't come up with any fancy renderings of it, yet. I do, however, have some sketches of what it is supposed to look like and how it functions. Tell what you think of it. It will be the second post from the top (under my live wallpaper screen shots).
DxTop has an amazing implementation of categorized app drawer - with corresponding live folders.

I wish this feature would be implemented into LauncherPro. I love all the other features of LauncherPro, so it would be nice to be able to keep those and still have this category feature.
auto app organizer .apk
create shortcut in homescreen or dock and voila you got what you want in all the launchers ...

more columns and rows on the home

hello all
have a look at the attached screenshot. i decreased the screensize (smaller). now i can just use the space like for the standard screensize. i tried some apps already but with no app i can use the full space
i prefer have rather 1 home screen with all what i want as having 5 home screens
any hints so far
thanks
Try Launcher Pro from the app store to change from the default home launcher...in the options you can specify how many columns and rows your home screen(s) have, so that you can fill up all that unused space with icons if you wish.
You can't fill it because the launcher doesn't think they're there. The stock launcher is 5x5. Decreasing the density doesn't give you more rows&columns.

hello ovigt
thank you for the name of the software.
i will try it
i found awd launcher yesterday. and it fulfill the wishes
as you can see in the screen 8x6 icons. if i place a bigger icon (like the watch - 2 icon size) it still allow me to put some next to it.
do they have a trial version ?
i mean - the 1.8 are not the problem - if that tool is what i am looking for. it needs to be smooth with movements, not a battery killer and easy to handle.
thank you

Is there any way to edit GB leak in home screen

I installed The pre rooted GB today and so far am liking it, but I want more icons on the home screen. Is there any way to change/edit the home screen or what is the best option to keep the features of GB home but have the capability of editing and personalizing.

here is a widget app that allows for more icons in a 1x1 space...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.h9kdroid.multicon&feature=search_result
I think Launcher Pro allows for grid re sizing, though rotating the screen may make everything look "off"
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fede.launcher&feature=search_result
not exactly the solution you had in mind i know but its the best i can come up with
for me i just use the app drawer and group apps accordingly...

You probably want to install an alternate launcher if I understood your need correctly.
Both ADW and LauncherPro allow resizing the home grid, so you can fit in more icons and customize the home screen in general.
I use ADW and it allows to set up the grid for portrait and landscape modes individually. Can't say for sure about LP, but it probably can do it too.

New Launchers

Hi friends,
Anyone got a good launcher other than Go ,ADW, Launcher Pro, etc ....one good for the transformer and that does not have a dock on the left, or bottom.
The main thing I am trying to do is get rid of 5 scrollable screens, I just want 3. Any modification ideas??

You can remove the dock with ADW. But you have to add a shortcut to open the app drawer.

Pretty sure it is only optimized for Gingerbread on larger screens. I tried this one about a month ago and was really disappointed.

Aww that sucks. I just remember reading a article about it but never really looked into it. Looking forward to it's release. bummer
You can get rid of screens using ADW just select edit and select the screens you do not need. You can also hide the dock but add a short cut for the app panel on the desktop.
Hi Everyone
Ok thanks for your advise, I have loaded ADW and successfully configured it nicely, however I removed my old system launcher, and put this ADW launcher in the system app section. Now everytime I boot, the thing reinstalls wiping my settings....
Does anyone have experience if you make ADW a ststem app, why does it reinstall each time you restart (wiping all user settings) and is there a way aroun d it? an odex file maybe?
why do you want it to run as a system app?
because its better than stock app...do remove stock app to replace with this makes life easy and bloat free...Also if someone with no understanding of programming deletes this app (wife or Kids or my parents) then I have to do a CWM recovery----I dont want to do that....
Set ADW as your default launcher and use an autorun manager to stop the stock launcher from running at boot-up. Problem solved.

Cool ...i run into my market !
Liking it...mostly.
Adds a new dimension to wallpaper wonkiness, unfortunately.
My wallpaper (via wizardrii) is not properly centered in landscape mode. Have not fiddled with it yet.
Anyone have any tips?
I will definitely be purchasing this for my girlfriend's 10.1.. thanks for the tip, it looks great!
Am loving it just make sure if your rubbish bin bar is located at the bottom you enable auto scaling of desktop when bin bar is used, otherwise you won't be able to add icons to the docking bar !

Mine works well for an hour or so, then takes an age for an app to return to the launcher. Only way to fix is to reboot the tab. Anyone else seen this?
Is there a light or trial version that I can try for free? I can't find one in the market.

Wallpapers aren't rendered properly, and my dock bar just disappeared on mine. Still has a ways to go on tablets.
Dock bar going away is a common "problem" with ADW. Turn off hidden dockbar in the settings, turn off gestures.
I went ahead and set mine up without a dockbar, and with just the ADW settings menu item in the top right. Removed the trash bin as well (long-press then Remove from the desktop works just fine).
"Endless" page scrolling, page-turn animation of Tilt, 350 turn speed, 15 desktop bounce, and a theme that has a transparent top menu bar. Desktop has 9x7 columns/rows, icons scaled to 95%, density hack off. App drawer is 6x6, in 4D vertical scroll.
Basically, it looks pretty much like Honeycomb at a glance, but without the one-inch "tap space" wasted on the left and right screen edges. It's much faster and smoother. About the only performance issue I've had is that it doesn't handle "card" widgets like YouTube, Market or News360 as smoothly as stock, when you go to "fling" a card away.
Maybe I'm just getting old and simple, but I don't really see the point of having the excessive customization of ADW on a Honeycomb tab. I have my homescreen setup with two widgets and about 12 regular icons, then the next screen over has some lesser used stuff. If I need any other apps I just open the app drawer and easily locate them. I mean, it's neat to make things whiz-bang and all, but from a usability perspective there's already so much overkill built in to Honeycomb that ADW doesn't seem worth the time.
On my phone, ADW is great, however. Now get off my lawn.

You don't have to use the power of ADW, it's just there waiting to be harnessed if you want it.
In fact, you can use ADW to simplify it, for example you can delete unused home screens, unlike stock Honeycomb. Doing things like adding widgets or changing wallpapers is also cleaner and quicker than the flashy Honeycomb interface. It's simpler.
I'm a card carrying member of the Curmudgeon's Club of Canada, by the way.

So... You are saying that you need adw
I like simple too, and adw help me doing that.
I mean, I do not need the 3d cubic scrolling effects, neither than the futuristic widget selection screen, or the quick search bar at the top.
I didn't choose to display the dock too in adw.
And it is so fast, close to the ipad smoothness.

It is not a problem but a feature hehe. If you slide one the dock, it disappear. I you slide again it appears. I think you can disable somewhere that movement.
ADW still sucks on the Tab..not only are the card/live widgets like Youtube slow to flick like someone said, but the worst thing is that for certain widget, like the Digital Clock stock Tab one...it looks fine when using the Tab landscape at first, then every single time I rotate to portrait view, the widget re-draws for new orientation and both left and right sides of the widget are not cut off. This does not adjust/fix itself instantly like stock launcher does and the only way to really fix it is to re-add widget or sometimes turn screen off and on.
I like the smoothness of the launcher/drawer but I aint dealing with this **** where a widget gets screwed up every single time....too annoying to deal with. Why is this such a hard thing to get right?? Is there a fix for this or no? I am not resizing the widget to begin with btw...just adding it as normal size. The homescreen size I use is 8 columns and 7 rows btw, just like stock.
Oh and why in the app drawer, the the top still unmatching/not dimmed like the rest of the drawer below it? Looks so stupid. They should dim it too and still keep the buttons in the top right corner, ughh.
EDIT: Here, compare landscape to portrait when flipped. Not only does that Digital Clock widget get cut off, but also look at the Wireless Widget..it looks ridiculous now.
EDIT2: I unchecked the ADW option for resizing widgets to fit blah blah but the same thing still happens where the Clock widget, for example, gets cut off after going vertical.. although the Wifi Widget looks a little less ridiculous now when turning. Anyone know about the widget issue though??

The 15 minute refund policy really sucks, especially for apps like ADW EX where you really need some time to get a feel for how you like it and check out all the customizations. To get around it you can always buy it, pull the apk from /data/apps (requires root), refund it, and re-install the program using the pulled apk file. This way you can take your time to play around with the app before deciding if you want to keep it. If you do go ahead and re-buy it from market. If you decide not to buy it do the honest thing and uninstall the program.
