Is Build 351 more stable than streakdroid 1.9? - Streak 5 General

Wondering if its worth the trouble to upgrade....thoughts?

Only can tell you about my setup. I upgraded to 351 than re-installed 1.9.0 over it. So now I have 351 baseband running 1.9.0 and my Streak is just screaming......

1.9.0 has been very stable for me so far. Everything is working perfectly and much much faster than 351 or any official rom.

Been on streakdroid 1.9.0 since release and as always, running strong!
But I was messing around with files that i shouldn't have been which caused a bunch of apps to crash so i flashed 351 with streakdroid 1.9.0 over it. No issues at all

I was having random reboots, force closes and general lags on 1.9 so went back to 345, then 351 and haven't looked back. My phones had 8 days since the last reboot and still going strong.

Were you using perfmod in your install.txt? I think that's coded to work with only a certain build base rom. Back when I used perfmod, I would randomly get fc's and reboots. But everything is all good now without perfmod.

I have DJ Steves 1.9.0 on 351 and have perfmod install but I dont get any FC's.

what do you mean by stable? I've never had any instability issues on my streak, had 318 originally and now on 351.

I don't see the point of it without perfmod, all the bloat can be removed using other software leaving a nice clean device. I was using 318 with 1.9.0 over it, then had to send it back to Dell where they completely wiped it and sent it back, but since then i haven't touched DJSteve's ROMs and am finding my phone a joy to use as the latest 351 ROM is fast and stable.
The only reason I would start messing with cooked ROMs again now is if gingerbread or cyanogenmod appeared!
That said, all DJSteve's work is very much appreciated.

Perfmod is generally unstable, it's usually recommended against unless you're willing to put up with it's unstableness

1.9.0 is still 2x faster in quadrant over 351 even without perfmod

For me, Stability > Speed. I've not rebooted my phone for nearly 11 days now and its still smooth as butter!

My phone rebooted about 10 minutes after flashing. it hasnt since. I'll take the speed and stability.

All music apps freeze

Hey all, I'm getting some weird freezes starting today. I'm running Fusion 1.1 w/ JACs @1.2Ghz and Voodoo.
I haven't done anything different to my phone in the past 24 hours, but any music player freezes if I try to forward to another song or when the current song finishes. I've tried it on MixZing, Winamp, and Doubletwist. (Slacker and Pandora work though). I've tried rebooting, pulling the battery, reseating the SD card, etc.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
I asked the same question yesterday n no one answered
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Oh and I was on bionix 1.9.1 so I thought it was the rom. Flashed to fusion 1.1 jac w voodoo n it works. Not sure why though
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I had the same issue. Used different roms with no improvement.
It turns out that it's a bug with the OC/UV kernel.
justanothercrowd stated that it's probably an issue with the undervolting. Go back to the stock kernel and it'll be stable again.
Grrr... it's weird because I've been fine on an OC/UV kernel for weeks now. And all of a sudden I have problems.
Well, strangely enough, PowerAmp works. I wish it had better sorting, but it'll do for now. (seriously don't want to give up the overclock, even though music a huge reason for owning this phone)

Yep, same thing for me. I was on JACs kernels for a while, and then suddenly my phone locked up every time i played music and the screen went dark. There's a bit of discussion in JACs kernel thread on the subject, but not much. Apparently on the OC/UV kernels, when the phone goes to sleep and the processor clocks down, it causes some fault with the music trying to play in the background which locks up the phone.
glad to hear you've found a workaround though!
What version of Jacs are you or were you running? I had random freezes with his 1.1 kernel, flashed the 1.0 kernel and have not had a single problem.

1.0 is the answer. I know Bionix roms come with 1.1, i usually dl stock rom version and flash Jacs 1.0 over it. All the UV, none of the FC.
Sent from my Vibrant running Bionix Final w/Jacs and Voodoo using XDA App
It was 1.0, and I don't think it was the kernel. Last night I flashed a bunch of different kernels and still had the same problem. Finally reflashed the full Bionix Fusion 1.1 and then JAC's 1.0 Voodoo kernel on top. Fixed!
I definitely had some kind of corruption, because all kinds of things were off, like Quadrant would hang, Youtube wouldn't work, and most music apps froze. Reflashing solved everything.

my music is stored on my phone's internal storage. I did apply the voodoo lagfix and then remove it (because of battery drain). but voodoo doesn't do anything to the storage partition which is fat32. i'll check the partition for errors.

Just odined back to 2.1 and it runs great.

I've tried every rom on DK28 since it leaked and today I odined back to 2.1 and I'm pretty sure this runs better. Anyone else?

+1 on 2.1 for me
No I love dk28 with ext4 and bonsai rom with no journaling. Phone has never been this fast before. Also 1 meter locks on gps and even in my house. Never got a lock on eclair before. I'm never going back to eclair. I'm gonna update to the official froyo manually.
Guys,
What do you mean by better? GPS fixed with better battery life with snappy speed than when it was launched or are you refering to it being more reliable than DK28 leaked froyo?

You are def. Right. By the way I love your theme mystery. I've showed it to a lot of people that don't have epics and they all love it. Thank you for everything that you and to all the developers. Without you there wouldn't be a point in rooting our epics and we wouldn't know how.
Sorry I don't agree. 2.1 is buggy because Samsung doesn't have it set up right. DK28 runs smother, faster, and gps performs much better.
I agree with the OP. GPS is the only real world improvement that the dk28 roms have brought me. I like to play games on my Epic, and the graphics performance is just not up to par compared to di18. I still get the occasional lag and jitter in the UI also. But I need gps for one of my jobs so I'm gonna keep running dk28 roms untill sprint drops the official froyo.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
No way DK28 is much smoother and better battery life; however, I have not hd much luck with the custom DK28 roms. Sticking with stock DK28.

I'm back on 2.1 because I finally got win7 on my comp and wanted to test odin. Had problems reoding dk28 so I went back to di18. Works great.
Sent from my ext4 Epic 4G running Bonsai4all 1.1.3!
Yeah, I went back to di18 every time. Some of my dk gripes were the checkerboard and flash in stock browser and being unable to successfully put a custom hosts file in it and it works. I left out of frustration and went back to di.
Quantum Rom working great for me on DK28. The only thing I am not pleased with is the inability to tether w/ infrastructure mode.
Im on my second dk28 rom ive actually had running for more than an hour, midNIGHT 2.6 w EXT4, and Im pretty happy with it. I have seen for a split second the checkering on the browser, i think, but I was wondering, is that just what the browser does when its having issues loading, i.e. an annoying, but normal issue? I did not like it on some of the early dk28's, but that was with a lot of other kinks that appear to be worked out. Also, has anyone who went back to di18 noticed the keyboard dropout issue??? I never noticed it myself, but as someone else had pointed out it may be software, I chalked it up to 2.1 builds... but I THINK i have noticed it, maybe 10 times, but could just be looking for any little thing and actually missing keys. Maybe I dont text-type as fast as others, idunno. Also, w my third epic (second a replacement that fc'd on everything, but was the most solid physically built ive held), I noticed that hardware quality varies a lot, I expected this with the slider, but maybe extends to the kb? Anyways, di18 feels stable, but I wonder if its just the feeling that it is 'official'...
Good info. I've run quantum, bonsai (I prefer it leafless), midnight, ee all are amazing I just always find my self back at stock. Oh yea cyanogen nightly's are fun too.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I've tried dk28 twice now with different roms and went back to di18 each time. Besides the gps "issue" di18 is the most solid phone build I've ever used.
Dk28 has the last.fm skipping, considerably bad keyboard lag/missed keys, captivate button lag, touches to the screen lag randomly.
Dk28 to me feels exactly like what it really is. A "good enough" leak, but it is far from polished.

CM6 Final vs CM7 RC4

I have been on the cm7 RC for about a month now. However its really not running optimally. I getting tired of the naggs. So I nandroid restored to my backup to cm6. Man what a difference. It's so much smoother. I know cm7 is not complete yet but froyo is still runs very well. Any of you guys feel the samek? Who is still rocking froyo?

Nope. Not here. Still on rc2 and I'd say its stable enough. I didn't think cyanogen would even go this far on rc.
Edit: I've found one unstable thing on my n1. The sense preview lags and choppy.

Yes froyo is miles smoother than cm7 and ginger bread stock. Scrolling apps, lists, webpages, everything is by far smoother on froyo. Makes a tough decision which ROM I want to run:-(
Cm7 rc4 has been as smooth as any 2.2 rom I've tried...now only if battery life was better than 10 hours I'd say it was perfect.

i find cm7 RC4 to be extremely good on battery. i can go 12 hours and still be at 60% rather easily. but i just find RC4 laggy and choppy. try loading a tapatalk thread with 30 posts, and scroll that sucker. now try it on froyo, its like a totally different phone, one's smooth, one's chunky as hell.

People face choppy scrolling because they don't wipe properly when coming to a new rom. Its a know fact that when you switch a rom, you've to wipe atleast 3 times before flashing the new .zip.
This is simply because, 80% of the first wipe doesn't wipe at all. ( both Amon_RA and CWR)
Always wipe 3-4 times and you'll never face the choppiness issue on any CM Roms.

Got tired of plain Android and CM7 wonks and other CM7/GB bugs, and tried Sense-based Froyo. What a difference. Going to stay there until (hopefully) a fully functional Sense GB port will be out.
What's the most stable Sense UI ROM?
eViL's NXSense 1.26. It's the only fully functional Sense ROM, unfortunately.
If you don't mind not having native hotspot capabilities - you can also install Desire HD ports (MM SuperHybrid 1.7 and eViL's 1.1beta).

i use launcher pro exclusively for the last 10 months or so...paid version. it is smoother for sure. but my scroll issues are ont necessarily home screen related. load any tapatalk thread, and it scrolls in chunks. handcent text items in a long list scrolls in chunks.
another bug in cm7, if you have battery text shown in the status bar, once you plug in to charge, after 20 minutes the homescreens become super laggy and skip. this continues until charge is complete, or you unplug. or if you turn off the percent text, scroll returns to normal smooth. i looked at the source code, and this new implementation is different than cm6 battery percent text version. seems using broadcast receivers, etc, or possibly the animation speed, is causing this issue.
i may edit the source to turn off batt percent when plugged in, since that's how cm6 functioned, and see if that fixes it. but i've been lazy pulling down the source.

I understand you, you and I using about the same setup. I was asking the question to needspractice. The one asking who is continuing to update 318.
Well when I updated to 351 I lost the ability to add a new google contact from my phone. I have no idea how that happened by the way. Plus there was no performance fix for stock roms after 318. I like the stock roms but with just a little added kick. It seams like most of the highly modified roms are to unstable. I have not tried the wireless hotspots yet but if that is an issue when I need it I will be very displead. I will have to redo my whole phone setup. I just got it exactely where I want it. I can do a nano backup; create google contacts from phone, have decent quandrent scores and and my phone runs smooth without Dell Activity Stage force closeing 24/7.

I am. I tried all new roms and found that 318 & perfmod is the best for me. Fastest and no problems at all.
I guess I 'm "old fashioned" considering the other answers.
Ok, understand the concerns with unstability, however I have been running 1.9.0 using Perfmod with 353 BaseBand (latest AT&T) with zero issues. Most stable of them all, can and do pretty much whatever I want with it. Went 2.0.0, but rebooting drove me crazy, went back to 1.9.0 and not regretting it.

V6 supercharger

hey, idk how many of you keep up with streaksmart but they had an article about this v6 Supercharger script today. I applied it to my streak which is on streakdroid 1.9.1 with perfmod and OCed up to 1.19ghz and my quadrant jumped up from 2200 and change to 2400+ Over all with games and just daily performance my streak seems much more responsive.
Also, some games such as Gamelofts Eternal Legacy which always ran before but lagged now seems to be much much smoother. I'm assuming that's from the RAM benefits.

I am also curious which option is the most appropriate for the streak. I picked option 8 but I find the difference in speed hard to really quantify.
i used option 7 (multitasking) and my quad scores went up, which while I really could care less about the score, what I noticed right away was how responsive everything is now. Screens have no lag, scrolling is smooth.

The easiest way to tell if it is working is to re-run the script and while loading everything up it should say something about your device being SUPERCHARGED. I forget the exact wording and I at least noticed about a 200 point jump up in quadrant scores. Besides that, the little bits of lag and stutters that I had grown accustomed to are now gone. Everything is just much smoother

Im not sure, i don't believe anyone has really used it with the streak specifically enough to say yet. I read through the thread a bit and from what I understand each setting is better for different things. Im sure between the various users here we can try various options and eventually determine the best settings for each of us
