Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and guess it's my first time to start a thread. First of all I've been reading this site for so long and I have learned a lot. Thank you for this wonderful site for teaching me how to install different kernel and roms. Because of this I would like to bring back what I know to the community by letting you know how to install one of my favorite rom the fast and easy way. Thank you Darky for your wonderful rom all credits goes to you.
Please note that this is the easiest way if you don't want to do a lot of hacking in your pc like installing any software like odin just to install Darky's rom.
*** I do not make any guarantee of this type of procedure but I have tried it using 3 different galaxy s as me and my friends has successfully done this procedure, follow at your own risk, this is tested only on Firmware 2.2 Baseband I900XXJPY ***
Let's make this short and here is how you do it.
*** Daryk's rom installation for dummies unorthodox ***
Note: I love the dummies books so don't get offended with this. Just like to name it like this because the book offers fast easy way to learn things.
Step 1: Download z4root, install and root your phone. Click Here
Step 2: Download speedmod one click install in android market and install.
Step 3: Download Darky's Rom configurator in android market and install.
Step 4: Open Darky's Rom Configurator and leave everything default except kernel option just pick speedmod, you can configure anything you want at your own risk.
Step 5: Download Darky's Rom Zip File Click Here look for Normal CWM Version. Transfer it to your internal memory do not extract just transfer the zip.
Step 6. Shutdown your galaxy s.
Step 7: Go to your clockworld menu by clicking the up volume key + on button + home button all at the same time, once you see the Galaxy S screen let go of the buttons.
Step 8: In the menu scroll down to install from zip from sdcard and press your home screen to select.
Step 9: In the menu scroll down to choose zip from sdcard. Then locate where you put your Dary's Rom. Then select it by pressing your home button. This should install Dary's Rom.
Step 10: Once done select the go back menu and then reboot menu on your clockworld screen. Wait a while it takes time to go to your home screen after the first reboot as it's doing some configurations it may take 5 to 7 minutes.
and thats it you should have the darky's rom v 9.3 installed. If there is anything you want to modify in this guide let me know and I will gladly do it for you.
Credits goes out to Darky, My Friends Gimo for helping and for some good inputs, I'm pretty sure that he lurks around here and helps at times and Wilfredo for letting us use his phone as a sacrifice lamb hehehe.

No worries we are glad to bring back to the community hehehe.
This will only work on 2.2, speedmod is only compatible with froyo and z4root does not work on 2.2.1

You could be right that's why I have a disclaimer. I will try to update this as necessary if you have another alternative and you are sure that it works as easy kindly let me know and we will update this thanks.
I appreciate your effort but for sure you need to make it complete or to mention on which devices it worked without any problems...
Just check 1st post from Darky thread and there you will see somewhere the wording:
>> [Guide] Installation Guide for First Time Users
which links to Darky's installation notes at http://darky.ficeto.com/community/i...-installation-guide-for-first-time-users.315/
Maybe you can work on that one explaining in more detail each step for newbies (btw. "noobs" isn't the same as "newbies" and it shouldn't be used only when you are mocking someone)
Good luck,
B.
c4root doesn't work with 2.2.1 roms the step just to install cwm to flash speedmod is kind of useless you can just flash darkys resurrection with odin download darky config and flash the newest version.... all steps together 10min without download....
you could use one click root beforehand so you can use titanium backup... .
guide 4steps :
1 flash darkys resurrection
2 download darky config and configure
3.flash newest darky
4. have fun

Thanks for your advice mate. I will follow your advice on explaining things in detail, for the guide however I already got to that guide long before and that is what I used on my own handphone but the alternative steps that I presented is what I and my friends found to be the easiest way.
For the devices on which one works, I have it on my disclaimer in red.

Looks like you posted just to say thank you, you are welcome guys. Good to see nice people here.
Just a warning so not to confuse people that really are beginners and probably wont realise this... You might want to change the part where it says 2.2 JPY to 2.2.1 JPY at the top of the first post.

*** I do not make any guarantee of this type of procedure but I have tried it using 3 different galaxy s as me and my friends has successfully done this procedure, follow at your own risk, this is tested only on Firmware 2.2 Baseband I900XXJPY ***
Before we did this our firmware was really 2.2 and baseband is 1900XXJPY.
I would not recommend installing darky's resurrection as it auto lagfixes due to it using voodoo kernel.
Just flash any froyo rom and then speedmod for cwm, then flash your custom rom.

JPY is 2.2.1 which is what speedmod kernel is compatible with.
JPY isnt 2.2 thats completey different... 2.2 was for baseband JPM etc in earlier versions...
I think that if somebody tried to flash speedmod kernel onto 2.2 they would run into problems.
Also mate just to pick up on something else... Im not 100% sure on this but i dont think that z4root works on 2.2.1 JPY it only works on 2.2 ( or that was my understanding of it a long time ago... it could have been updated somehow to work on 2.2.1 )
Superoneclick root is the most renowned way to root a 2.2.1 device...
Not trying to rape your thread or anything mate... Im just trying to give some constructive feedback to make this thread as accurate as possible.
If it wasn't for these threads a lot of people would get no where.
There are loads of different ways to get darkyy's rom onto a your device from flash cf-root for 2e and installing rom manager from the market for CWM or flashing speedmod kernel for the CWM built in and then flashing the CWM version of the rom but if your looking for the FASTEST way, it would have to be going through ressurection if im completely honest.
Well that the speedmod kernel dont work on 2.2 is definitley wrong! I am on stock 2.2 and i am using k13c - works nicely. Also in the speedmod thread he states that the kernel works with every 2.2 or 2.2.1 rom.

- Based on JPX Android 2.2.1 kernel source
- Works on all stock Froyo 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROMs and popular custom ROMs
Thanks for the correction i apologise.
I was just going on the fact i knew it was based on 2.2.1 firmware, but as you say yes it does work on 2.2 aswel.
Thanks for clarifying that. My mistake
Would this work on GT-I9000 with Firmware version 2.2?
Sorry - newbie alert here:
My phone's "settings->About Phone" screen says:
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: I9000HVJP3
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #6
Build number: FROYO.HVJP4
It's a phone from Vodafone Australia which was upgraded from the original 2.1 to the official 2.2 via Kies then root'ed.
I'm a bit confused by the arguments here about 2.2.1 vs. 2.2 - Do you expect these instructions work on my phone?
Also - if I execute them - am I correct to understand that this only installs a new ROM but the kernel and the Android version will stay the same, allowing me to retain the Navigon application which came with the phone? (I hardly use it but plan to use it when I travel abroad and don't know what kind of network coverage I'll have).
Thanks!

CM7 is not particularly newbie friendly. Darky's ROM is probably the most popular here. You can just change the themes by looking at the themes section afterwards.

So I just picked up a tab today and of course the first thing to do is root, so just a couple of questions, I have a SGS and am on a CM7 ROM, so Im not a complete noob, although this next question may be a noob one... I was looking at the VFP OC kernel and was wondering if it was rooted, meaning can I just flash that kernel and be rooted?
The useragent mod looks to be a no brainer as far as having it, what other apps or mods would you guys consider standard ones to have?
I wont be doing anything till I fully read over what to do as far as rooting or anything else goes but it seems pretty straight forward since we are using the same tools i.e. CWM and ODIN, so just looking for suggestions ATM
Thanks ahead of time

Welcome! Use the rooting video guide to get CWM on your GT10, once you've done that just use the CWM program to flash both ROMs and Kernels.
As for the mods, you don't need them as they are already baked into most of the ROMs. Try Starburst or Task650 for ROMs, And definitely use pershoot's Kernel (and get the SetCPU app to overclock, you can get it free somewhere in these forums).
Have fun!

hi
1. read carefully on how to use Odin
2. it is always advisable to do a factory/Data wipe and wipe delvi cache and then flash the ROM via odin and if u want to go back to the stock rom dont worry just look in the rollup thread and u will see some links with stock rom with out boot loader for u to flash
good luck and be care full read carefully before attempting to flash
Like it has been said before, it´s ok.
Just remember to follow the guide and you´ll be just fine.
I recommend to flash the Kyrillos Rom 9.2 with G3Mod 2.2.2 noc oc.
Hit thanks if it helped you anyway.
Best of luck
Thanks alot harree.
Also what about the Overclock thingy? and one more question i read in one of the threads that a bettery stats wipe should be done after installing the rom. Well i searched around and i couldn't find a thread on how to do that. I would appreciate if someone can help with that.
@iam_dragonmaster, how can i install the g3mod 2.2.2 non oc (i figure this is a kernal? how can i install a kernal when installing the rom?) with kyrillos rom? besides i can only install kyrillos 9.0 i think then have to use the update.zip thingy to update.

Boot into recovery using the extended boot menu and apply the update for kyrillos 9.2 by selecting zip from SD card and of course you need to put the update in your SD card. You can download g3mod kernel and flash it via Odin one package and it does not wipe your data . Also you can download the battery calibration app from the market and install it and follow the instructions. For me i use Zeppelinroxs die hard battery calibrator script. Can be found with the beta/test releases of v6 supercharger.

Hi there,
I am new to the iconia forums but not new to android. I already have a heavily customized Xperia X10.
What I am looking for is a pre rooted stock 3.2 ROM. CWM is installed and works.
I have read so many threads but I am still not sure wich file to use.
It's a A500 with Acer_A500_4.017.07_EMEA_CUS7 ROM. The new one should work in Germany.
Can anyone help me? Many thanks in advance.

I am running taboonay 2.2 using the latest Thor kernel and am very happy. It is rock solid even overcooked.
Vache has removed most of the bloat, and but offers a kitchen to add back anything you want.
If you are looking for total stock for your locale, and someone else will need to chime in.

Have a look at the DEV section of this forum, read about each ROM, and then decide which one best meets your individual needs, and desires.
He's asking for a STOCK ROM, only that it's pre-rooted. He isn't asking for taboonay or such. Work on reading-comprehension.
well in the dev section there are some rooted stock, you will have to dig a few pages back
heres one one the second page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265847 not sure if you will get any conflict with u being in germany
if u feel adventurous taboonay has always been solid, its built of a acers' rom just adds some goodies for drive mounts and stuff(usefully for plugging in external hard drives
@ snickle
Thanks buddy. But as WereCatf pointed out, I am looking for a stock ROM. But I missed that Kitchen-thingy when I first read that thread. Seems promising. But it requires registering so I didn't look any further in to it so far.
@ kjy2010
Also Thanks to you! I glanced through the dev section. But most of the ROMs have been cleaned by creators in some way. I would like to decide myself. But as there doesn't seem to be such a ROM that I am looking for, I will probably test one or the other custom ROMs.

Karl, you still have to root and install a recovery (the best method). How else are you gonna be able to flash that rooted stock rom?
Magic wishes???
If you look in the dev section, there is a post for a US based stock rom. What is important, is that it gives instructions on how to do it with your own rom.

I have been running it for 2 months without a glitch
Hi jodokus77,
thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if the GEN1 ROM was apllicable for german region.
What I am going to do next is to receive the OTA 3.2 Update without installing it. Guess it will be placed in the download folder. If it is not a GEN1 or GEN2 ROM, I will root it myself following the instructions in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290318

Finally I did it as jodokus77 supposed.
Everything is working as expected.
