How to unlock O2 handsets - Galaxy S II General

I will update this first post with details on how to unlock.
Method 1
Contract only.
Unlock via their website.
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking
Apparently a one month waiting period, but no one has tried this yet.
Method 2
Contract only.
Unlock request via O2 customer service over phone. which department do you need to speak to? Can anyone help?
Is there still a one month waiting period?
Method 3
For contract or Pay as You Go.
http://www.mobileunlocked.co.uk/
Cost - £15.
Verified as working here
The one verified unlock via this method that we've seen took 11 minutes.
Thanks,
James

Thanks Saquib,
Anyone got any info on how to call them to ask for your phone to be unlocked?
Thanks,
James

do these handsets have any carrier bloatware on them because they are locked? Also if and when any updates happen are they likely to be delayed due to them being previously locked by O2?

Requested my contract unlock via Web Chat earlier - was told it would be approx 7 days

They have the O2 wallpaper and splash screen. Thats it. Just flash the stock Rom thats on samfirmware if it delays updates.

Hopefully, yes.
But this will help those that aren't....

Will this O2 version work on USA att?

Is that URL right? Shouldn't it be unlockED.co.uk?

Thanks, fixed.

For those that might still be unsure, I just received my unlock code from mobileunlocked.co.uk - took about 4 hours but worked perfectly with very clear instructions.
thanks mobileunlocked!

unlocking
Just a quick tip for those who may have received this and it was locked to O2, managed to unlock mine a few days ago in about 5mins or so. just needed to root the phone which took a few minutes following the steps from this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334, was pretty simple and easy even for someone like myself who had never done it before then all you need to do is download an app from the market called ' Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock ' by chainfire which finds the code for you. I didn't think it was going to work at first but to my surprise when i popped in my voda sim and entered the code... Baamm their it was an unlocked S2 in no time lol.
Hope this helps others, tried posting it on a few other threads were people where asking but couldn't as i only registered today. spread the word if you wish

+1
I did the exact same thing and it worked for mine.

I need to get mine unlocked somehow, should probably just root it but worried ill brick it or i won't be able to get it back to normal for the warranty. Does anone know how much o2 charge for the code, and yes they do delay the updates.
Cheers

[Q] Problem getting unlock code for Defy

I recently got a second Defy from Orange UK as they were selling it for £99 PAYG
I searched the forum and the net to get it unlocked as her sim is on Virgin mobile.
Best advice seemed to suggest using sellers on bay so I found one and ordered on 31st Dec.
On 3rd no email with code so sent seller email to which I got reply saying should get it today tomorrow.
Tomorrow came and no code so sent email but got no reply.
Sent an email requesting code again today to which I got following reply.
"Yes I know that. Moto is down, would you like to cancel. Otherwise we have to wait until i hear back when they are going to be providing codes again. THis is Worldwide so noone can get codes"
Could anyone clarify if this is true and if you can suggest places to get it unlocked ASAP.
My defy is an orange UK model and I too have a virgin sim. Got mine unlocked from eBay seller from the US. Took about 10 days. A little research beforehand looked like the Motorola servers are the only place to generate the unlock codes. I would wait unless you suspect a dodgy seller.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Yep the seller I chose on eBay is from the US too 'freedomobile-comm'
Guess I am just a bit frustraited that he didn't inform me of the issue and is still listing on eBay.
Mine was from Swift unlocks who also go as Unlockfusion. Make sure you get a 16 digit code (I think) as the old Motos were only about an 8 digit unlock code. Good luck.

There is a free unlock method available by the way. It's the one from a Russian forum, but many people don't seem to be able to make it work...
I'll put up info on it tomorrow for anyone wanting to just get going with their phone
It's not permanent and doesn't replace the code. But it gets round it. It works on CM7, and perhaps other ROMs if you follow the instructions I wrote today.
Any chance of the guide mate as I'm still waiting for a reply on the purchased code.
Do you know if it works on the stock rom?.

I will upload the info. What baseband do you have just now?
I need you to post your /system/bootmenu/2nd-init/ (file with umts in the name).rc
This requires you to be rooted, using 2nd init
Search for 'soft unlock defy' on XDA and you will get the link. Not a permanent unlock.

Phones not rooted as its brand new.
I've not rooted my other defy or this new one as it seems more complicated than I am used to.
I've still not got a reply from the code seller as to when he is likely to get code from Motorola.
Its never been so difficult to get a phone unlocked.

I got a code fine from mine. Order placed on Thursday night (9pm UK time), with a Canadian seller. It arrived Monday at about 9am. Not bad considering they go by working days.
Regarding soft unlock, it's same method posted here.
I just updated it to work on more recent ROMs by editing the init.rc file up suitably.
For the record, just add the line starting the service bp_ptc, in the same place as in the example one. Use the binary for your baseband.
And it requires root. In theory this should work on any rom provided you edit the ROMs init.rc file suitably...
Code finally arrived last night and worked, so all sorted now.
Purchased on eBay on 31/12/11
Received code on 12/01/12

Yea I actually just unlocked an Atrix today. Called ATT customer support line and hit 0 a lot, got a guy on the phone and said I bought this phone, not in contract, out of exclusivity period and dont have an ATT account, can I get the code to unlock it so that I can use it where I want to...he took about 5 minutes and got me the code.
Phone is on a Tmobile network in my friend's hands right now.
I wouldn't pay some site online and give them your IMEI number. Just seems sketchy to me.
Yeah as people said just call AT&T why pay when they will do it for free, when my friend sent me my Atrix i had to call them from the UK To get it unlocked and it was pretty simple and painless
I did, i called at&t but he said he cant give the code and that i must let the person who bought the mobile ask the for the code..i bought this mobile from someone in Lebanon ..any hacking way to unlock it? I tried the unlocking sites they sent me code but none of them worked..can any call at&t for me plz and try to get me the code? I will be verry thankfull..thank u
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
You got lucky that AT&T gave you the code without you being their customer.
I tried it in the past with Verizon and they basically told me to bug off.
The general rule is that they give out unlock codes only to their customers after a couple of months since phone release date.
No contract phones at full price already come unlocked, so that excuse rarely works.
Anyway, some people still get lucky and get the code, but the majority isn't. It all depends on generosity of the customer rep.
I unlocked all my phones through online services, and there is nothing shady in your imei being requested, since the unlock codes get generated based on imei. AT&T will ask for you're imei as well in order to get the phone unlocked.

Agreed.
As to the OP's question of "is there a hack?", I assume that there is not. Those providing codes are likely paying insiders for some private key.
To the OP, why did the person you buy the phone from not get it unlocked? If he was an ATT customer who was in Lebanon it would have been a no-brainer to do such. And it would be free. I have had no issue at all unlocking my last 3 ATT phones (via ATT) so that I could travel internationally.
Think perhaps he might not be the rightfull owner?
I really do not like the entire "locked phone" concept, but given that it exists one should know how to avoid pitfalls. Do not buy locked phones from 3rd parties unless you know what you are doing.
Yea its th first time that i buy a locked fone..i loved the atrix thats why i bought it..neway thank i guyss..

Wotan Server Now unlocking R800at for 7.99 EUR ($10.53)

Just noticed that Wotan is now unlocking you bootloader and sim for 7.99 EUR ($10.53)
http://www.wotanserver.com/en/sony-ericsson/se/xperia-play-r800/unlock-tool/debranding-flash
As I am planning on buying a R800at in the next couple months I checked out Wotan and saw that it supports the following models
R800, R800a, R800at, R800i
Anyways, just sharing.
There is a downloaded unlock tool. It is essentially Teamviewer with some extra features so that your phone will be unlocked. Simply download and install the executable file to your PC, and sign in or create an account. Included in the program is a video tutorial on what to do
Very easy to use I recently unlocked with them but it was 7.99 GBP

I think you should recheck with them, for the R800at I think it only unlock sim, even though they said it include unlocking bootloader, I think it applies to the R800i only.

I emailed Wotan Server asking to confirm that the R800at (AT&T) xperia play is supported for full bootloader & sim unlock. I will report back with the details once they reply.
I just received an email back from Wotan server
" Hello,
yes it's true, we are not aware of any problems, if you have a supported phone (with a manufacturing date earlier than 12W11). Please see details at http://www.wotanserver.com/en/sony-ericsson/se/xperia-play-r800/unlock-tool/debranding-flash
Kind regards,
So I guess whenever I do look inti buying a R800at ivwill have to buy used as I was hoping to get a new one for about $150. Used the seller could tell me the number. Is this number on the white sticker?
Edit: My current R800x has a date of 11W19. What does that mean? Obviously I am guessing a date of when it was manufactured.....

Thank you so much, I recently got a R800at after upgrading from a R800x due to the GSM support and soon afterwards realized I couldn't unlock the bootloader myself like I did with my R800x.. I was looking into Wotan but was worried my device wouldn't be supported, after creating a test cable and trying other software that was free and failing I was even more worried. But this post convinced me to try it out.

PAYG Razr i from Three in the UK

Hi
I've just received one of the Razr I phones on offer from Three UK for £149 + £10 topup ordered online. People might like to know that the phone I received is an unbranded UK Retail model with 4.1.2 and UNLOCKED. I've tried it with Virgin, T-Mobile & Tesco SIMs and it works fine. Very pleased so far.

Thanks guys for the helpful (and fortunately positive) replies. Now I'm brave enough to turn the question by 180°:
is there anybody, whose device that has been bought from Three (especially Pay As You Go) was SIM-locked?
(I hope the thread's intensity becomes weaker).
funny enough yes. i bought one for my mrs today and after commenting only a few hours ago i thought i should try. so i put a giffgaff sim in it and it asked for unlock code??????
so i tryed with a EE sim and asked same again.
then i put the 3 sim back in got it all set up with google sync and apps etc and tryed again wigh sims and hey presto it worked????????
whats that all about?

I must've missed out on that as they're showing as £249.99 now. Shame really as I'm thinking about moving from GG to Three.
Instead I've picked up one from the Orange ebay store (£169.99 with £20 credit included). Seems like unlock codes can be picked up cheaply enough too - here's hoping the Orange branding isn't overboard.

Hi, I had to do the same, because my UK contact was late by one day (she could go for the phone on 1st Aug 2013, offer ended at 31st July...), so I've ordered from Play.com with free Pillips BT speaker (http://www.play.com/stores/ChitterChatter/listing/828995144). +10Ł & Locked, but still satisfactory offer. When do you get yours? I've never thought of Orange branding... can it be disturbing?
And from where do you buy trustworthy unlock code? I'll need sth like that, too!
I bought mine from the "official" Orange UK eBay store - which is run by ChitterChatter, the same company in your play.com link. I'm hoping it gets delivered at some point this week.
There's quite a few sellers advertising an XT890 unlock on ebay for less than £10, so it seems pretty straight forward to get the handset unlocked.
Looking into people who bought the RAZR i last time Orange sold them for this price, the handsets themselves don't have any Orange branding. Usually, Orange really go over the top with their branding so it's nice to know these won't have that problem.
Three raised there price to £249.99 a day after I bought mine for £149.99 :') guess I was lucku

Buying a phone from At&t at full price DOES NOT mean its unlocked. I bought two Note 3's, one full priced (from At&t Next) and one on contract.
Called the next day for unlock codes, the woman told me to call in 15 days and only the one that was paid in full could be unlocked. They just didnt have the codes in the system. I've been with At&t a few years now and my account is in good standing. Usually after a month or so I call and they give me the unlock, contract or not. But I just went ahead and ran chanfire's unlock app and it worked. Both phones unlocked. Much easier than having to hassle with At&t. I'm on At&t so I really dont care/need the unlock. But its nice to have I guess.

thats kind of how things went for me. in the past ive called in for an unlock and got it though those other times were after id had the phone for awhile.
this time the first person said to go to the unlock site and request it and if it was denied to call back and try another route. theyd look over my account history and all that stuff in that case. anyways, on the unlock site as soon as i put in my imei number it said it couldnt be done. i called in and the person i talked to this time said something about the unlock codes not being in the system. he sounded sincere about it and it made sense, but to be honest i really didnt believe it. i just didnt see why they wouldnt have them. in the end i ran the unlock app and its been going fine since saturday.
I have a question, If I have an Note 3 from AT&T and unlock the Note 3 and has been reported lost, I can use it with Straight Talk?

The phone will be back listed with At&t. Pretty much it won't be able to be activated on At&t again. If it's unlocked it should work. However, I have seen some stores check the phone's IMEI status and they only take phone's with clean a IMEI/ESN.
But you've already given the impression that you are guilty of some suspicious activity with that post. Just be careful, and always stay legit!

Works just fine on Straight Talk. I've been using it for a week or two...
What the previous poster said about it working on AT&T if the phone has been reported lost. If its an AT&T based MVNO such as Straight Talk, Net10, AIO, or Go Phone running on the AT&T network a lost and blacklisted phone WILL NOT work even if it's unlocked. You shouldn't have any problems using it on T-Mobile or using a T-Mobile based Straight Talk card since AT&T and T-Mobile aren't sharing blacklisted IMEI's.
And about those "lost" phones... Nothing sketchy there at all.

My Note 3 was paid in full. I called AT&T yesterday and talked with 3 representatives.
The 1st one told me to wait a year till the end of my contract and hung me up.
The 2nd one told me to wait at least 60 days and hung me up.
The 3rd one told me to contact with Samsung to unlock. I gave him an earful and he setup a "high priority case" for getting me the unlock code.
This morning, I got the code and successfully unlock my Note 3......

Will it work if you upgraded to SM-900A for Sim Unlock to any carrier??? Will they do it you think vs you paid full price??
Sim Unlock
There's SIM unlock instructions from other post in General section, just root the phone and use Chainfire's Region Lock Away. And its free.
Please keep in mind, once you root your phone ISIS mobile wallet will not work... Which is fine, I don't use it enough to care about it.

Please thanks if I've helped in any ways.
If your phone is reported "lost or stolen" it will be blacklist from the original carrier and eventually to all US carriers.
