Gorilla glass - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Its the new galaxy TAB 10.1 have gorilla glass?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App

No it's made from "awesome glass"
Not material specific
Sent from my Legend using XDA App

No, i dont think so.
It is ok without gorilla glass as long as it is PLS display or at least IPS.
We cant have Amoled still.
Dream screen would be Hyper Amoled Plus with King Kong glass

This video of the 10.1v appears to be scratch resistant

So does the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (not 10.1v) use Gorilla glass?
Are screen protectors necessary for it? I spotted a Zagg screen protector for the Tab 10.1 at Best Buy but found it overpriced at around $30.

I bought the zagg yesterday and I ripped it off last night. It really seemed to kill screen sensitivity.

When u apply those kind of skins, u gotta give it a few days to dry and stretch out. Until then its wavy and lessens the screen sensitivity a bit

Yes, it' s gorilla glasss. A few reviews mentioned it and how the screen was fine even after carrying it around it in a bag naked with keys. Just oogle and you ll find out.

Thats the point, I found overnight is good enough for zagg screen.

Yea after a full day it is much better bu it still takes a few for them to really tighten up fully

hehe, when applied these screens,i really wanna have a robot do this for me, can never get it done perfectly. small air bubbles.. that take longer to go...leave my mind on the screen sensibility aside...

At least this review says the new GT 10.1 is "still Gorilla glass" despite it's thin form factor.

I am not sure if it uses Gorilla Glass or not, but I asked the same question on the samsung site and this is what Samsung10 answered:
Does the Galaxy Tab 10.1 use gorilla glass for the screen?
Hi! Thank you for your inquiry! We appreciate your patience regarding this question. I don't know if Samsung10 is the official account for Samsung but I don't think anyone else can answer questions on that site. You can see Galaxy Tab is listed but they don't specifically say the 10.1 version. So, it could mean the 10.1 does use Gorilla glass, but could also mean only the 7" version does.
My guess is that it does not because if it did for sure they probably would have advertised it and the answerer on the Samsung site would have said "Yes" instead of giving the roundabout answer they did.

That list is on Corning's site: http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/#products-with-gorilla
Although it doesn't mention which specific tab; from this clip i'd guess it's not though...

no matter what corning tells you, gorilla glass is breakable
dont believe me, have a look
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW_swJiebIA

I have one of the tablets from Google I/O and unless they changed the screen, I already have a small scratch on my screen . Be careful, because I don't even think I was rough with mine.

Zagg
I wasn't sure whether it had gorilla glass so i bought the screen protector by zagg just to be safe, but it also gives the added bonus of reducing finger smudges. It was trickier than most zagg covers i have used in the past to get on. I was concerned i screwed it up with lots of air bubbles but now after sitting over night it is nearly flawless. Touch sensitivity was a little iffy last night after i applied it but seems to be fine this morning.

I haven't seen concrete evidence in regards to the Tab 10.1 having Gorilla Glass.
I contacted Samsung and they assured me that it does.
If that's the case, I'm wondering if I still need a screen protector.

[Q] gorilla glass

any news if focus will have gorilla glass like galaxy S phones?
Not from the review or spec sheets I have seen. The Dell does though, that does look a great phone.
Has Samsung put Gorilla Glass on the spec sheets for their Galaxy S phones? I wasn't under the impression that they did, and if not, I wouldn't be surprised if the WinMo7 phones from them DID have GG.

Samsung did not reveal that info. it was corning that came out and told everyone that galaxy S has their product. I find it very strange that samsung does not mention it as a feature.

Guess I don't care what it is or is called, if it doesn't need a screen protector! Everything I see about this device get's me more and more focused on it (sorry, couldn't resist the pun).
Samsung, for whatever reason, don't like to mention this, even for its Galaxy S phones. I have no doubt Focus comes with gorilla glass as well.
One can only assume the same applies to the Omnia 7.
Excellent news indeed!
I asked this question on the SGH-i917 Focus' support page on Samsung site. They have posted the question for viewing, but it hasn't been answered yet.
Maybe when I am tired of my omnia 7, I will perform a scratch test to comfirm
I was with a samsung rep today and was playing with the phone when this question was brought up. The rep said it does have a gorilla glass screen and so does the lg models and the htc models of the windows phone 7 devices.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Why don't they advertise the feature as I presume it costs more for groilla glass?
I think they are worried that users will get careless and start asking for replacements when glass scratches or breaks.
Either that or maybe its a gorilla glass knock off.

Good news
Same for the Omnia 7 one hopes?
I submitted a support ticket to Samsung asking about screen guards and wether the glass was scratchproof, they replied with a link to their (dead) dealer page and a link Phones4u :| They totally avoided answered the question.
So I submitted another ticket very clearly asking if the screen is toughened, scratchproof or any such thing.
No reply as yet. Seems they're not so keen to say for some reason.
I've had confirmation from Samsung that the Omnia 7 DOES have Gorilla Glass too
Wow, dropped my Omnia 7 for the third time, this time only about 4 feet off the ground, but it slid front face on the floor tiles..... and what do you know, its got scratches ><. One short one, and one long but really thin one. If this does have gorilla glass, well, I thought it'd be tougher than this...

Not Gorilla Glass?

I just picked up a Nushield DayVue screen protector, mostly for fingerprints than anything else.
I noticed while polishing the tablet before installation that I've got a scratch in the glass. Thankfully it's over the black border and not the screen so it doesn't impact my use at all. If I had to guess I'd say it was caused by something being on the inside of the Acer case when I slipped it over it, and getting dragged across the screen. You know how tight that case is when you slip it over.
If this thing were Gorilla glass I don't think it ever would have happened.
It is not. that's bad.

strong glass
There are many different types of so called super strong glass.it really is just a selling strategy. Thou some glass is stronger then others all of it can and will be damaged.especially touch devices.
Be careful even gorillas can be injured if they decide to be careless.Just because something says its better does not mean its damage proof

True, but you'd think that getting a scratch on the glass while it's in the case and UNDER where the case covers would be pretty darn difficult...
I've seen videos of people dragging keys across Gorilla Glass and not causing damage, and I guarantee nothing near that kind of abuse happened to my A500. It apparently scratched as easy as a cheap window.
With that in mind, I'm double glad I got my screen protector. And I know people have called Acer and been told it is NOT Gorilla Glass despite the posting on Corning's website so there seems to be much confusion of the makeup of our screens.
A little off topic, but I would take anything Acer support says with a big grain of salt. I was told that the A500 does not have a GPS receiver and it was impossible to transfer files via USB with a Mac.
No scratches on my A500.

Actually, if you get a bit of sand stuck between a case and any glass, that is the most likely to scratch as is has a reasonable amount of pressure, the case still will let the tablet wiggle, and it can be there for a while.

agree, is very strong, but is NOT un-scratchable (I dont know is this last word is an english word XD)
small pieces of silica such as you'll find in pocket lint will scratch gorilla glass. Also, as you carry the tablet outdoors fine pieces of silica dust may adhere to finger print oils on the screen and scratch it the next time you rub your finger across the screen. If you want your screen to stay pristine, get a protector or clean it gently, regularly
Galaxy S phone has Gorilla glass and mine is scratched... so Gorilla glass or not, it will get scratched without protection.
Trust me...I got scratches on my tab Though I have no clue what happened

too late to have such a pathetic doubt.
Gorilla glass... It's just a brand. They make advertising's while other glass manufacturers don't. That has nothing to do with quality. My Desire HD (soon to be retired) doesn't have gorilla glass and only minimal scratches after 2years of usage. It gives you a false security when you have it.

On the other side of things, the Gorilla Glass on the S3 is a joke...Mine has with many scratches already and as others have posted, I have the Desire HD and Galaxy Nexus both have been going strong with barely any scratch at all since their release dates when I bought them.
I will just wait till it get really bad then replace the glass probably.

Yeah, looking at the reflectance measurements at displaymate, while they were good, they weren't the super-mega-amazing results that GG4 should of brought. However, I don't doubt whatsoever that it has anything less than GG3, especially since the S4 has it, and the Note 3 is better than the S4 in every way(not to mention it has the best display out of any phone ever).

VZW says Note 3 has GG3
It's been bugging me that no mention is made of Gorilla Glass on Samsung or Corning. No carriers mention it but in the Verizon detailed specs they say Gorilla Glass 3.
I wonder if VZ is perhaps wrong as once upon a time I had read that Samsung was using a GG clone of some sort.
Paste from VZW site:
Specifications

Bolding is my doing.
The mystery continues.
Corning Gorilla Glass 4 has an anti-reflection coating and an anti-fingerprint/grease coating.
Thus, the Note 3 has CGG3. Because I can count the individual reflected birds is the sky on the glass, once I clear off the fingerprints.
We know it has 3, because the S4 has CGG3, too. Samsung already told us we have the S4's screen.
there was nothing official. everything is just inferred conclusion like:
1. S4 has GG3. Note3 is higher/better than S4. So it has the better, or at least same screen.
2. Samsung has stake or ownership in Corning. So its assumed they would have put at least Gorilla Glass on it.
corning site doesn't mention it (seen that news below was updated nov 4 2013)
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/samsung
Full device list doesn't have it. But maybe list isn't updated?
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list-new
Side note. I had to replace my day one Note 3 with a new just days ago and had the new one laying right next to the old one. With polarized sunglasses on the new one was darker when looking straight on and would then lighten to match the old one if I tilted my head. Normal with polarized glass. Its weird that it seems there was a change.

I don't think you can assume the Note 3 has GG3 - simply because Samsung has been known to use parts from various suppliers according to their needs at the time. Also, if it was GG3, I'm sure Samsung Marketing would be touting that fact hard to sell these phones.
I do know that the Canadian model of the Note 3 has Gorilla Glass, but I do not know what version it is, and I don't know if the other models of the Note 3 have it.
EDIT: Before someone asks for proof, I talked to the product manager in the Canadian facility. Just call your nearest Samsung facility and pester for a product manager or someone who deals with the products.
Judging by the scratchproofness (i declare that a word.) it seems logical. Normal glass does not handle keys, idiots and catclaws as well as this.
It's not GG4, because that is glare-free. The S4 has GG3, makes sense this one does too.

GG is not totally scratch proof... There are certain things that will scratch it like sand. It is generally going to be pretty tough to scratch though... It is also NOT shatterproof...
Personally I use a hardened glass screen protector.
I gave my old S3 to my brother with a hardened glass screen protector, he recently dropped it out of his pocket face flat onto concrete and the glass shattered but the screen underneath was fine... Good idea to use....
GG is a good thing to have but it can be broken....

Note 3 Screen is basically indestructible from Phonearena

Check out these drop test done from PhoneArena...Post is old.. But new to if you haven't seen this yet.
What baffles me about this new glass as it seems to scratch very easily though in my opinion, already have some little scuff up marks from being in my pocket.

Nice
It's a good thing, too. Mine took a nasty spill and I just got some nicks on the front bezel. :good:
Though the iPhone 5S is not that bad still it'snote 3 we trust! Strong, beautiful, durable, functional, feature-packed, fun, more than a companion, affordable and above all, the hope to smart phone evolution especially the note series.

IN NOTE WE TRUST......lol yes indeed...I believe its one of the top out there, The NOTE 3 is a Beast...I've had every note versions, And galaxy s2 and s3...I love Samsung :sly:
The 5S is laughable at best. "In Note we Trust".; I dropped mine corner first. Pretty nasty fall and was expecting a shattered screen but ended up with a bent bezel and that's it.

and ......... the oleophobic coating wears off too.
I couldn't even think of using my $750 device without a screen protector. insane!
I got the 9H, it's like a second screen. I can take it off in two years and my flawless OE screen will command high $$$

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Seems like only yesterday, everyone blindly thought iPhone was the best thing since color screens. Now I think more and more people are realizing that premium materials do not always equal the highest durability. Note 3 FTW!!!!!
No I'm not happy to see you, it's just a Note 3 in my pocket....
I slipped in the snow and my note 3 went flying.Funny but it didn't break I thought for sure I'd have cracked screen, the back for scraps on it and the corner. But wow my heart stopped for a second

You know what..your exactly right.....So strange you say that..I Actually have a small section on my screen where it looks like a scuff mark..I took a magnifying glass and looked more closely and it looks like the coating is gone?? Wth lol...Called at&t and getting a replacement and ordered a tempered glass .3 thick one iff ebay..ordered 2 incase I mess it up..they were 15 a piece putting them my replacement phone soon as it arrives..
I'm glad that the phone is holding up pretty well in tests, but I'm still definitely not taking the risk of not having a case on it. My note 2 dropped from below pocket height onto asphalt for me, not even face first, and spiderwebbed completely, even taking away lots of touch sensitivity. Not risking that again!
Reminds me of the old yellow and black Nextel we used to dent the walls with to show how tough it was, One of the techs actually heaved it through 2 thickness of 5/8" sheet rock. The battery cover popped off and the battery fell out. But as John Cameron Swayze used to say, it kept on ticking.
Dropped mine one foot. Hairline crack. I am now a gorilla glass non-believer.

They could say the freakin screen is made of highly reflective aircraft aluminum. Don't make a difference to me! I'm still putting a case and screen protector on it! I'm using the moshi visor xt. It was what the att store had the morning it came out. It's a nice screen protector but it itself scratches and scuffs. However when the screen is on you can't see any of them. I love my big HD display! Until the time comes that the screens are indestructible I will be protecting mine!

I agree....Like I said above for some reason these screens scuff so easy it's almost like a coating comes off (happened to me) I ended up sending it back for another one and soon as it came I instantly threw on a Tempered Glass off ebay for 16 bucks....and put it on in a steamed room like they say...And sure enough its dust free..and the glass protector feels so smooth and no loss in touch responsiness even with spen, Good idea to grab a Tempered Glass protector...helps alot
I've broken both the Note 2 and Note 3! Guess I'm just unlucky.
