Best processor - XPERIA X10 General

Which is the best processor of these?
i) Snapdragon
ii)ARM Cortex A8

Most likely the Arm because of its gaming score and all that animation stuff. The snapdragon is a beast at CPU speed though. So I guess its opinion of what u want?

Snapdragon all the way!! as its pretty much similar to Cortex-A8, but has better performance altogether

Complicated question....
Which coretex A8 are you taking about? The one in the sgs or droid? And which snapdragon? Depending on the generation/series of chip they are pretty similar.

The adreno gpu in snapdragon is a dog. The cortex power vr ones are far better. As far as the CPU, it's much the muchness...

So far the most power i have seen in a mobile phone cpu and gpu...
Dualcore cpu. Nvidia tegra2 gpu.
That little tegra chip is severely aggressive.
I love the way it can stream several sources of video at the same time.
Plus the ability for dual view... on a phone.. A phone!
Too awesome.

Snapdragon = a8 CPU. BUT, the GPU is much crappier. However, if you have a device without a very high Res screen and you don't play games, you won't notice the difference.

Apple first to market with A15 Cores.

Well look like Apple is first to market with A15 Cores.
I really didnt want to see this tbh since A15 was possibly worst thing that we could have seen in Android v Apple
Those cores will wipe the floor with anything A9 based even if its just a dual core CPU.
Bummer.
Samsung would have seen this coming since they are the fab for Apple.
I wonder if Samsung will respond with an A15 2GB ram S3 variant.

Yes, but there is already an A-15 on the market, in the American S3.

It's based on Arms A15 design is it not? OEMs can make alterations as they see fit as Arm just supply the design and don't actually provide working silicon.
Only iTards use semantics to pretend their stuff is first when others have been doing it months.

That website is false. S4 pro's are based on Krait processors which merely have some architectural similarities to the A15.
Kraits are much better than A9's butThe A15 pretty much blows the Kraits to smithereens.
Having said that - and putting aside heat/throttling issues - The Quad Krait + Adreno 320 combo is quite a bit better than anything out there, enough to be termed "next gen" IMO.

A better way to look at it is that the Krait (S4 Pro) and Cortex-A15 processors are both based on the same architecture, which is ARMv7. Neither one is anything completely new, since many of the latest SoC's have built around ARMv7, but neither one has made the next step up to v8.
In general I would say that the Cortex series are better than the S series spec-wise. For example, Krait has an smaller pipeline (11 vs 15) and half the cache of the A15 (16kB + 16 kB L1, 2mB L2 vs 32 kB + 32 kB L1, 4 mB L2), but a larger pipeline and cache don't always make something better.
I think its fair to say that the Krait is like A15's little brother. Maybe not as powerful, but from the same powerful family.

Nexus 4 is still a significant improvement over the Gnex. I've enjoyed my Gnex but plan to purchase the Nexus 4. Hardware is improved and the price is right. Time will tell if the battery life is a major issue (I did upgrade my Gnex battery to 2000mah). The nexus line is a developers phone and is not intended to blow the doors off the competition.

This is only my guess, but IF that was even possible to run all 8 cores at the same time it most likely will not run at full speed because of the amount of heat that would be generated by running all 8 cores at once.

Lol please stop talking. The exynos octa smothers the s600 in benchmarks while at a lower clock.
Anywho, there were some leaked benchmarks a little while back I saw
(Don't remember where) for the s800 and it hit slightly higher than the Tegra 4 on antutu. But it also was clocked at 2.3ghz where as the t4 was 2 ghz.so to answer your question no, the s800 really isn't anything special compared to a15 chips, and exynos outperforms tegra. But the krait chips probably have slightly better efficiency. So maybe it might be worth looking into, the gpu (330) will most likely outperform the power vr marginally, not that it even matters at this point. From the bit I researched the s800 doesn't deviate too greatly from three s600 aside from higher peak frequencies and large band width

You might want to check other threads yourself before stating "facts" like that.
With the final firmware, things seem different, both version are pretty close to each other, sometimes the S600 version wins, sometimes the Octa does.
But most of the time, it seems the Octa has a faster CPU, but the overclocked Adreno 320 in the S600 version of the S4 beats the PowerVR 544MP3 of the Octa version.
Here's a comparison with the latest and most strenuous benchmark from GLBenchmark :

Lol you tell me to check other threads then repeat exactly what I just said? Anyways, I'm not basing my info of a single stream on benchmarks conducted by someone after a few firmware updates, that doesn't show anything and certainly doesn't do much towards leveling the playing ground between the two soc's. I've done pretty extensive research into the architectures of mobile chipsets, both Qualcomm and arm designs; mostly reading up on how each generation changes from one to the next and some blue prints. S600, or even s800, based chips will not perform as well as any a15 chip. More efficient? Definitely, but that's about it. In fact the s800 architecture really doesn't deviate that greatly from the dated krait s4.

The international variant has 8, with only 4 being able to be active at a time. 4 a15 cores clocked at 1.6ghz, and 4 a7 which I believe are clocked at 1.2 (I could be very wrong). Most of the world is receiving the i9505 variant which uses Qualcomm's s600 quad core though

Hmm, you were the one talking about benchmarks (and how the Octa smothers the SD600 in them), I only gave you a link to one (that should be among the best benchmarks for GPU) that contradicts what you said.
If you want links to other benchmarks showing the same type of results between the 2 SOC, it's not hard to find either, it's not like this is the only benchmark giving these results.
Also, theoretical performance (based on blue prints, and the architecture of the SOCs) is one thing, but it does not always translate to practical performance.
To tell you the truth, I was pretty sure I'd import the i9500, but I'm changing my mind more and more based on what I'm reading.
I'm still not sure right now though
But in real life use and gaming, it shouldn't really make a noticeable difference in performance whether you have one or the other.

Yeah, but truth is that it's still hard to tell which version is better, and it probably won't even make much difference in usage
Battery usage is still unknown too, even though on paper, the Exynos sounds good, it really depends on what you do, and how well the dual processor architecture manages that.

Which one do you suggest when buying the S4 .... Snapdragon 600 or Exynos 5 Octa ?

I am planning to buy S4
But I'm not sure which is better
Snapdragon 600
1.9 Ghz
Quad Core Krait 300.
or
Exynos5
1.6 Ghz Octal Core
Quad Core Cortex A15 / Quad Core A7
4g and installing roms is not important to me
Which is better in terms of performance?
Which is better for gaming?
Which is better for battery life?

processor is more stronger rather than spandragon
also exynos version will be global version so you can get update in time
but power vr sgx and adreno 320 is offering same result as a GPU
as a result i recommend you to buy exynos octa 5
any other suggestions?

But I'm not sure which is better
Snapdragon 600
1.9 Ghz
Quad Core Krait 300.
or
Exynos5
1.6 Ghz Octal Core
Quad Core Cortex A15 / Quad Core A7
4g and installing roms is not important to me

Performance wise the octa version will win on the CPU side and be on par , gaming the snapdragon will probably win cause it seems to becoming a standard on high end android Devices, battery will also be a tie, where the octa wins in low demanding tasks thanks to its a7, and the s600 win on higher demanding tasks cause the krait consume less then the a15.

Giving Samsung ready to make the sources available, you'd better off with the Snapdragon version because Qualcomm will release their sources well before Samsung does. Consequence:
Development for the i9505 (Snapdragon version) will take off while the Exynos version's development will be slower...

Stop saying GPU is same ! Adreno 320 sweeps the floor and even the windows with the ****ing PowerVR !!!
but Octa sweeps the floor with Qualcomm.
Both are important....cpu and gpu. But we have enough CPU in both. What sense makes to have huge CPU if you wouldn't be able to play or use some apps because of the old gpu without OpenGL ES 3.0 ?

Like a boss in Antutu and playing Angry Birds while Snapdragon 600 owners cries for being kings of the hills but playing new and high graphics games.
I found one more things which makes Exynos Octa better. The ram in Exynos is LPPDDR3 at 800MHz, which supports 12.8GB/s bandwidth, while S600 have LPPDDR3 at 600MHz (? not sure) but it's at 9.X GB/s (can't find this information

owh and angry birds friends is releasing soon
most of Ram is wasted on S-apps and features anyway and don't forget the wolfson audio chipset for exynos

I know, even so I'm big fan of Yamaha Grand Piano (I own one), so...if the chip inside the Qualcomm is Yamaha isn't a problem for me.
The only thing that makes me angry about the PowerVR 544MP3 junk is the OpenGL ES 3.0. I'm not 100% what's the importance if it, but i'm sure that soon will be released many games with this support and PowerVR have an OpenGL ES 2.0 api which gives "extended support of OpenGL ES 3.0. However, if you want full 3.0 compliance choose PowerVR 6X Rogue".
WTF is that extended api does ? I want to see a OpenGL ES 3.0 benchmark (GLBenchmark promised to release one) of both, Adreno 320 and PowerVR 544

what is the bandwidth and how it makes the Exynos stronger ?
Eyxynos seems to be overheating (see relevant thread in Q&A)
A question once and for all: DOES THE 9500 support LTE/4G or NOT!? Because that's a deciding factor in my purchse. I live in Denmark. I mean definite yes or no should be possible right?
overheating + no LTE will definitely sway me towards the 9505, but it still seems to be too early to tell.

Which one do you suggest when buying the S4 .... Snapdragon 600 or Exynos 5 Octa ?

I am planning to buy S4
But I'm not sure which is better
Snapdragon 600
1.9 Ghz
Quad Core Krait 300.

Exynos5
1.6 Ghz Octal Core

Which is better in terms of performance? less lag ?
Which is better for gaming?

Hi,
Look HERE
That's a no brainer....the Exy. But does anyone really have a choice? Especially in America.
i have a choice they both are available the same price with local warrenty
The exynos here is cheaper online but for me, no 4G = no go. Since buying an S3 4G last year there is no way I can go back to 3G again.
The speed difference is enormous and 4G here costs no more than 3G. And on the Telstra network it's even better. Have hit over 50mbps on speed tests.

Over simplifying it the Octacore version is slightly faster but has a poorer battery (4G not withstanding). Snapdragon touch slower (but faster than most phones todsy) but it'll last longer. There are lots of debates on whether the Octacore version ca be improved but this is how it stands right now as the biggest differences.
Other option is Stock version......

Well, in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeRcKHF4bDc&feature=youtu.be&a the girl states that she can not tell a difference between the two....except in GPU power. So, if you like to have less GPU power...then yes, the Qualcomm would be what you want.

You have that a little backwards: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40554113
Also, go and ask any cedarview Atom owners what they think of the PowerVR SGX54x and the driver 'support' it gets. After that fiasco I would never buy another product that has a GPU from Imagination Technologies.

That is interesting. But seeing for myself in that video, it is hard not to believe that the Exy GPU is better.

Sure, no problem....It was "Exynos takes the edge, ie camera and GPU". You can also watch the video and see...physical proof is nice.
I see. So for someone who needs 4G and has a preference for CM or AOKP the Exynos is still a 'no brainer' simply because it's performance is slightly better on certain benchmarks?

????????????
Why are you saying Exynos GPU is better than S600? I saw benchmarks where the Adreno 320 beat the powerVR SGX544 (though benchmarks are sometimes useless ^^)
Exynooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooos
ive seen many vids on youtube about the two devices and i gotta say there not a big diffrenet in perfrmance
just get the one that available in your country
