Should I send my Aria back - HTC Aria General

Recently my headphone jack started playing audio through only one side, so I decided to call HTC to see if they could repair it, and they said theyll see what they can do, but when they test it and they see its rooted what do you think they'll do, and what should I do?

First of all, have you tested it with a different set of headphones? Obviously the headphones could be the problem and not the phone itself. Also make sure you aren't using a case that is blocking the headphone jack from pressing all the way in.
If you're absolutely sure it's a phone problem, you can return the phone to its original state by using the 2.1 RUU on the phone.

Did you check to make sure there wasn't lint in the headphone jack? Thats happened to me before.

The only issue that you might run into is that they may upgrade the software to the unrootable 2.2. I find that when I send a phone back, they always wipe the phone and install the latest firmware.

How would you remove the lint?

I'd try compressed air. You can buy it in a can from most electronic stores, if you don't have a air compressor handy.

OK thanks I will try that

I just used a small needle to pull it out.

I've decided to tell them I lozt my phone and pay 50 bucks for a new one and hopefully it doesn't come with 2.2, if it does I'm just gonna use my messed up one til there is a root for 2.2
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

On the bright side if it comes with 2.2 you can send it to get clipped and still use the old one till it gets back.

To who do I send it to?

Out from speaker when headphones connected?

When I plug in the headphones(the one's included) the output comes from the speaker AND headphnes at the same time? I might be a lil tipsy but I can't find in the menu for this....I just wanna hook up my headphones and quietly jam out. But can't!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Did you plug it in fully?
Yea its in all the way. I hear the headphones AND speaker playing the music.

Did a hard reset....battery pull. Fixed!!!!!! Please deleted.
Thanks again.

im having this same issue.. Did u have to do a full on hard reset or just pull out the battery for a few and put it back in?
It wasnt to clear in last post
I had that issue. I just turned it off and back on. Fixed it. Good luck.

How did you guys fix this? I tried battery pull and turned on/off but no luck. The headphones quality sounds horrible when this happens. Starting to think it's a hardware issue? Thanks for your help.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
All I did was did a battery pull. Left it out for about 10 seconds, then put it back in. I must say the sound quailty is nice(headphones that were included). I came from a moment and sound was low....on here its loud

i had the same issue when i was using Btunes to listen to music. When i went back to the stock app and also doubletwist the issue went away. I thought i was going crazy when i sat my phone down and could still hear music. LOL.

I had the headphones/speaker playing today at the same time as well, it happened when I didn't push the headset in all the way and then backed it out and replugged. It probably botched the software up going in/out/in like that, probably locked the external speaker on.
Yours, on the other hand, sounds like hardware. When the cable gets wonky on my aux wire, I get severe quality issues and I can kind of imagine what you're getting at with yours. Make sure that the plug clicks all the way in, and if the problem keeps happening - hardware it is.

Audio and speakers

I'm currently on miui rom and when my phone rings it sounds like my speaker is bout to blow. Lol. Is there a app or something that I can use to adjust this.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Nope. It's happened to me twice. It's a hardware failure. If you're still under warranty go to a store or call in for a replacement. All the ROMs in the world can't help that.
Yeah it only does it on this rom tho. Lol. If I flash my other roms it's not near as loud. Lol
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I'd probably say avoid that ROM for now then. Basically what's happening is the speaker is on it's way out. It will get worse before it gets better. I still say take a look at warranty replacement if you have that option.
Not sure if this will help, but I use IncrediKernel, and with the "Audio Boost" option set, my Inc did the same. With the IncrediControl app, it's an option to be checked or un-checked, without it, maybe try echo 0 > /sys/kernel/audio_boost/aboost
Other than that, MIUI has been doing some work on the sound system and maybe it's something going on in the new settings? There's a "System Volume" now in the menu for "Sound and Vibration Settings" that I've noticed lately, as well, maybe give that a little tweak?

The physical speaker in the phone is really bad, and most people's blow out. It's fairly easy to replace and inexpensive (under $5). Will maybe take you 5 minutes.
Youtube videos for instruction.
Ohh. Ok. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I also didn't realize that a kernel could effect some the sound.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I've blown two speakers on my phone already, waiting to replace this last phone until my upgrade. Why are these speakers on these so bad?
Mine acts up with the miui rom. But if I install cm7 they work fine. I don't understand that. Lol

ROMs With Working Headset Buttons

I've flashed pretty much every ROM in the development thread and only CM7 w/ the included kernel allows me to use my Skullcandy 50/50's headset buttons. I've used a headset button app from the market that allows you to see the incoming button presses and it only shows them using CM7. Every other ROM doesn't recognize any presses. I've also flashed Tiamat and some other kernels on CM7 and that causes the buttons not to work. Looking for any ideas about why this happens. I like CM7 but other ROMs are prettier but headset buttons are a must. Any help is appreciated.

My advice is to use a stock HTC headset I love mine and it works for every ROM I use, them skull candy headphones are nice, but they tore my boys g2 up because of the size difference in the headphone jack

Where'd you get your set? I looked online for HTC branded headsets with controls and could only find one with a micro usb plug, which I don't want to mess with.

I actually use the optional headphones that were offered for my HTC TP2. Very nice, it has rubber ear inserts, auto answer/hang up on the cord, and a very long cord. You can get them on Ebay pretty cheap now.

Do they have track control? My main concern is not having to pull my phone out of my pocket when biking to skip songs. Thanks for the suggestion.

Headphones

OK so I work as a dish network technician. Sometimes I hook up my headphones to my glacier to listen to some music and run it through my shirt so as for them to not get pulled while working on the ladder and all that. What do you guys think would be the best an easiest way toblisten to my music? How I'm doing it or are there any wireless solutions.. any help is a appreciated.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Assuming you mean access to the music media and not e.g. wireless headphones, if in the USA, try Google Music and mark songs for offline while you're on WiFi, so it won't use up data. Otherwise, I woukd suggest a large memory card.

There is this one Bluetooth+ wireless headphones, at radioshack. I wanna say by Samsung, really nice set. The headphones plug into the Bluetooth, then the headset clips on to your shirt. The earbuds are really strong too,I used them at my work for a while, very nice sound. The price I wanna say is around 60-80, can't remember.

I have to vote for Bluetooth headphones as well. I've tried two pairs: Motorola S9s, and Rocketfish RF-MAB2. The S9s were not worth what I paid for them. The sound quality was ok at best, the earbuds uncomfortable, and the battery life was not great. Their top selling point (for me, anyways) was that they were sweatproof. As I run and work out a lot, I was really looking forward to no more tangles. Turns out, they are not sweatproof. After about 3 weeks of workouts, they crapped out. The controls became unresponsive; I couldn't even get the power button working to turn them off. And I lost my receipt, so there went any replacement.
Did some research and took a shot at the Rocketfish RF-MAB2s. They are absolutely fantastic and better than the S9s in every aspect. Much more comfortable, the sound quality is fantastic, and the battery life is pretty much as advertised. The only drawback is that they are not specifically advertised as being sweatproof. However, I've been using them for over 3 months with no problems whatsoever. As a precaution, I wipe them whenever I feel they might start getting wet, and I bought a few of these covers to make sure sweat doesn't get into the charging port.
Bluetooth works great for me. Search Ebay and you can find a bunch. make sure it's the ones that can transfer media (music), not the ones that are used for calls.
Awesome thanks guys will try some out and let you guys know which ones worked great...I doubt here is but there wouldn't be like just a one eared headphone so I an just listen to music in one ear would there??

Personally, I use the Jabra BT-3030 dogtag adapter. It let's you use the headphones of your choice. I do the same thing with tucking the wires under my shirt. The device is great, streams music and takes calls. There is a Mic built into the top of the device. it has all the music controls and they work as expected, has its own independent volume control too. You can even use it as a remote control if you plug another cord into the phone's jack. Pretty cool if you hook up to a stereo and feel like being lazy.
I prefer in ear buds, so this was the best solution for me. You can find it for $20-30 online.

I used to have an eBay Bluetooth headset that played music through the speaker when connected to my computer, but not on my phone. I think in order for your phone to play music through it, it has to recognize it as a media receiver and most single earpiece sets will only receive call audio.

I always remove it via Titanium Backup.
Has your handset ever been connected to your car via bluetooth or dock?

This happened to me too. May seem stupid but solved it by properly cleaning the USB port with a air blower and a toothpick, a lot of lint came out which probably was causing some pins to short circuit, read about it somewhere when I was searching for a solution for this! Hope it helps!
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
You have to stick a screw driver the usb port and bend it up slightly. The pins arent making contact with the board. Search my name. I made a post on what i did.
