Wifi-tethering blocked - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok well I rooted mytouch 4g last week and loaded Royal Glacier V 1.3. I tried to use wi-fi tethering both the one pre-installed on my phone and the open garden wifi tether but it both says my wi-fi's been block my tmobile. I am curious to know is there any way around this? I am sure someone already posted a post, but I was wondering if they could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Do that, and don't post questions in the development section. I believe questions should go in the questions section.

hmm I'm on cm 7 and I was still able to wi-fi tether my dell streak 7 tab just fine.. I'm on the android preferred plan.. idk if that makes any difference. I havent tried tethering it to my laptop but wifi tether to another android device is still working for me

Thats because your android tablet internet ua string is "android"...

[Q] How do you perform WiFi Tethering on Wildfire?

Hi!
First, I'm a total newbie regarding the Wildfire and Android. But since there are more people like me and there is no straight-forward answer in this forum, I thought I could ask the question.
How can I make my Wildfire emit a WiFi signal so that I can access the internet on my MacBook and my iPod Touch?
I have already rooted my Wildfire, following the steps explained in this link: h t t p :/ / rootmydroid. co. uk/guides/general/howto-root-your-htc-desire-wildfire-evo-incredible-with-unrevoked/ using unrEVOked.
I guess my Wildfire is now rooted, because I have the Superuser app.
Then I started to download some apps with which tethering supposedly should be possible, but they're not working:
-Android WiFi Tether: ht tp://code .google .com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=Aria
I can emit a WiFi signal, which is picked up by my iPod and my MacBook (running in OSX as well as in Windows XP). But when I try to access the internet it cannot get a network address (MacBook) and on the iPod you see that there is a connection, but internet does not work.
-Barnacle Wifi Tether (see the market)
When I try to establish a WiFi signal, I get the following errors:
Failed to set AP_SCAN
[1] Terminated ./dhcp
[2] Terminated ./nat
Stopped unexpectedly
I got USB tethering working using EasyTether. Install this on your computer ht tp://www .mobile-stream. com/easytether/drivers .html (Windows only) and download the app on your phone from the market ht tp ://www .mobile-stream. com/easytether/android. html.
But since I would like to have WiFi access to the internet and it's just for Windows, this is not an option.
I've heard about PDANet, but I cannot find it in the Market..
So... can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? Why do Barnacle and WiFi Tether not work? And what can I do to make it work?
Thanks in advance!
PS The links don't work, remove the spaces. I'm a newbie so link posting is prohibited.
Am I the only one with this problem?
get pdanet from appbrain, just install it and also install fast web installer on phone, and go on the appbrain website and it will dl straight to your phone when your mobile net is on. you have to be signed into your gmail account.

Thanks for the input.
PDA Net is not what I want, because I want to get internet on my iPod Touch..
And, @Bluedragon, I'm a noob So what do you mean with Wildpuzzle and where do I get it?
But what I don't understand is, WHY does that Android tethering app not work? I just seems like my MacBook does not get a valid IP address to access the internet. The WiFi network itself is visible..
There must be a solution without installing another rom.
I found after a couple of hours of trying a few months ago the the following version of wifi tether works with the wildfire. 2.0.5-pre8. You also need to also need to put the file fw_bcm4329.bin into a folder you need to create called android.tether . I would not try to change the ssid name or passphrase either as both seem to corrupt the program. Hope this helps I use it to connect my IPad to my wildfire and it works great. All the files you need you can find via google.
Thank you very much! That works!
The app seems to use a lot of power, though. But that's probably normal?
I tuned down the transmitting power. See if that works.
And I can't even change the SSID. Every character I try seems to be "corrupt".
I have a stock HTC WIldfire ROM 2.1 rooted. Installed Wifi Tether pre9 release using a custom SSID and WEP key no problem.
I've used easy tether from the market place. Works great.
Easy tether won't work with an iPod though.
Seems there is not much information on wifi tethering on the wildfire.
Installing a custom rom looks to be difficult but maybe that's just me
It's not - just copy the file, root , boot into recovery , DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!! and install the rom. If you hate the rom you can restore from the backup

Desktop Browser - Defeat Tether Cap

Since, apparently, tmo regulates tethering by sensing the browsers user agent setting, is there a method or plugin for Chrome or other desktop browsers to make them appear as an android browser?

I have no idea but I used pdanet and worked today. Couldn't get regular tether to work but it worked well enough for a little bit

easiest way for chrome is to append --useragent="Android" to the end of the shorcut command(right-click>properties>target) or in firefox just edit the string in about:config and filter for useragent should only be one or two entries

if you start the app, let your tethered device connect and go to the default vzw sign up page then cycle the radio off and on on the dx it will connect and work

Team Black Hat also has a hack that allows you to use the native hotspot app. I don't want to post the link to it, since the hack goes against the basics of morality (as their post explains.
However, if you're not worried about it, just google Team Black Hat hotspot hack or something similar.

can't access internet issues

So I have a problem that is getting annoying.
Sometimes when I'm surfing the internet, say yahoo.com, I get the folowing message:
internal error Access is not allowed for this user agent in www.yahoo.com
I am running panache radio with royal ginger 3.0; no mods. My user agent is set at ANDROID, but when I change to iphone, froyo, etc, I get internet connection back, or if I airplane mode off/on again, I get my internet back. Change back to Android useragent, and it's good again, but a couple days later, I get this message again.
Other than the following, anyone got suggestions? has anyone come accross this issue?
1. factory reset
2. wipe everything, reinstall ROM
3. Tmobile APN set correctly
4. SIM card no problem
Android UA is really bad. It gives alot of web problems and give alot of pages in mobile version. Just use a different one.
I used to use linux or the last UA in the list, I forget what it wan. They worked great.

yeah, right now, I'm using Froyo, but even with Froyo sometimes, it gives me the same internal error messages.
Under my about:debug settings, I can only choose the UA:
android
froyo
eclair
linux desktop
mac desktop
iphone
ipad
ie6

question regarding tethering and agent switcher

I applied the kitkat tether fix last night and everything was running great, I was browsing from my laptop, and because everything was working great so I was NOT using the user-switcher extention.
After downloading a 2mb file today, out of nowhere I got the t-mobile upsell page. I turned on agent switcher and it works now.
I was excited about not having to use agent switcher, but I guess I have to now? I was initially excited because I thought agent switcher was no longer necessary.
On the bright side, my pages will be loaded using less data so thats good.
So is this normal? For it to be working in desktop mode and just stop, forcing me to use the agent switcher. I was not sure if this was still necessary with all the fixes and such.
Thank you
Bump, just trying to figure out if I have to use agent switcher still or if there's a way around it

Install APN back up and restore and offline Sim. Then using a root explorer move those 2 apps to system/priv-app fix set permissions for both to 777 then reboot
Now delete your apns using APN backup. Disable the ICS check. Then using offline Sim have it right the new APN for your Sim. For the right when asked. The stock APN ,from what I've read, contains hidden files to aid in tether check. I have no problems with tether nor do I use an user agent switcher. Tether on LTE.
