How to update ROM? - Omnia II General

Hello,
I have been working mainly with HTC, but now I've switched to Samsung Omnia B7610. Since it has Windows Mobile 6.1, and there is WM 6.5, I would be most thankful for explanation how to do update safely.
Are there some risks for Rom updating? Is it only needed to plug the phone and do the update, or there are some pre actions to be done? What about a keyboard layout, how to update and to keep it's original layout?
Thank you.

Come on, it just can't be that anyone haven't done this before. I just need info how to do it right.

Check the link its the complte deal with all u need.
I used the Octans downloader 2.14
but before you flash, beware, i havent managed to find the original ROM at all after searching for almost a year. So if you can first save that and then flash.
P.S. I'd really appreciate if you could somehow pass over the Original ROM to me.

Did you search before asking this question? There are tons of guides and threads out there containing the answers you seek.

Original WM 6.1 for Blackstone and rolling back to it.

Hi everyone
I am new to this forum so bear with me.
I have a Blackstone NL version with 1.56 firmware from stock. Just got it 2 weeks ago. I would like to test miri's new WM6.5 v15 on it. My question would be:
If i do that, (and dont like it) can i go back to what i have now?
If so, can I make a complete backup of my blackstone, and i dont mean a sync of the contacts but a real OS image of some sort.
Is it possible to find original HTC OS images of different languages.( i have dutch on mine and would like to have one in English. If yes, Where?
For my questions, please be specific and clear coz i am a Noob.
Thanks in advance

You don't seem to be answering the question...

As I read it, he's asking two questions, one is where to find the ROM - which you answer - and the other (which I'd like answered too) is what problems might there be in rolling back to the stock ROM; my reading of the Wiki simply doesn't answer that part unless I'm missing something (or searching for the wrong thing?). So a pointer to a previous article (which might help us) would be useful, if someone knows where one is....
The ROOM is the Bibble of changing ROM: in this forum you'll find all if you search...
But you want the fish not learn fishing...
1) Wiki for ROM
2) No problem to return back...

why didnt you just say that in the first place then, my god, geeks
but roll back imply that the org rom is still inside the device
and thats not the case to go back you just have to flash your
device with the same version it came with like you would flash
it with any other rom

[Noobie Alert] I've dumped the ROM... now what?

Geetings All...
I've just got my brand new Unbranded Palm Treo Pro and it came with Windows Mobile 6.1 pt-BR and I want to update to 6.5.
As a software developer veteran the first thing I want is to do a backup of the whole thing in case of anything goes wrong.
Reading the older posts at this forum I've managed to dump the whole ROM, following the steps I've found on this thread.
Reading further I found a Kitchen along with the ROM with WM6.5 which I believe is what I want.
However, before I flash my phone I want to convert the ROM dump into something that I can flash back in case something bad happens... you never know.
How do I do this? I couldn't find among the plethora of information on this site a way to convert from the RAW files to an usable flashing mechanism.
Regards
Same question here...
I've rebuild the ROM and posted it here, but I need a brave enough person to see if the ROM is OK because I admit I'm too scared to try it myself and brick my phone.
flashing a rom wont brick your phone.

htc touch hd

hi guys im new here and im new in all of this.
i just bought htc touch hd so i got some question.
1. my htc with wm6.1 some people told me that it will be good if i will upgrade the wm6.1 to 6.5 and my device will be faster'
so how can i do that? i need to buy the software or it is free?
if i'll upgrade the software all the settings and the software will be remove?
2. where can i find sites for free apps?
thanks a lot.
read the wiki!!!
has all your answers!
it is free
need to hspl first (sticky in rom dev)
it will wipe everything but you can back up your data
it will wipe your system but you can revert back to your old rom easily
find free apps here!
o.k what is hspl? what is ROM?
do you recommended me to upgrade to wm6.5?
how i backup all the programs i dont have the installations. thers a guids how to do that all?
thank you!
hspl is a hard second program loader. you need to flash that to be able to change the operating system on your device.
roms are images of the operating system. they provide windows mobile in different versions (6.1 / 6.5 / 6.5.3 or even 6.5.5) and additionally come with different versions of manila (aka touchflo 3d or in newer versions also sense).
these are very basic things that you should read more about before attempting to flash your device, or you will break it. it is not like "press one button - done". flashing your device means tempering with your waranty and bypassing locks, set by htc.
you should definetely read threads like the "dummy's guide to hspl and uspl" in the rom development section of the blackstone forum.
in that section you will also find the differnet roms provided here, marked with [Release].
have a look at the different threads to find a rom that you like from the screenshots and read through the experiences, people post with it.
also, a lot of basic windows mobile information can be found on wikipedia's windows mobile and blackstone pages.
and of course, most of all, on xda-dev's own wiki here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:HTC_Blackstone.png
oh, and you shouldn't really back up programs, but re-install them on the new operating system, backing up too much stuff will cause your rom to run instable and slow. you should only use pimbackup, or MS myphone, or outlook, to backup personal data.
if you ever consider to go back to the exact rom you are using now, you could make a full backup with spb backup, but restoring that backup on another rom is highly un-recommended.
wwooww its complicated i think i will give up thanks anyway.

Don't give up. That's defeatist talk. Yeah, it is intemidating at first but nothing worth doing is easy. Just read and you will understand. I read and read and read and when I set down to do it I was able to install a custom rom without incident. That was a year and a half ago. I'm probably going to install a new rom soon so I will read and read and read again to refresh my memory. Part of the complexity stemed from there being two different methods of flashing the phone, iirc. If you give up on trying to mod your phone you might as well jsut have bought an apple.

Please help with HTC Touch HD (Blackstone)

Hey there,
A close friend of mine has a HTC Touch HD and he never updated its ROM or anything because, well, he's not really familiar with the whole Windows Mobile or HTC world in general, and neither am I.
It has recently been freezing way too much and I believe that's because it has never been formatted, updated, or anything. Therefore, I borrowed the device from him in an attempt to try and fix that.
I'm familiar with Nokias, BlackBerries, iPhones, and have actually owned a couple of HTC phones but for a short while and never really bothered with backing up, updating, or such.
Can someone please guide me on what to do? I believe it has Windows Mobile 6.1 and the latest is 6.5 (according to research I've done). There is also something called ROM which is the OS, I suppose, that you install on the device, and I found hundreds of ROM and I don't know WHICH one to install or even HOW to install it.
I have also downloaded HTC Sync from HTC's website but it's not detecting my phone at all. Right now I downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows 7 64-bit in an attempt to connect with the device and backup or w.e.
Thank you so much in advance and please help me!

Installing ROMs is eassy on XDA. There are a lot of guides! For example, go to the windows mobile ROM development and search for what you want!
Maybe this info will help you:
-a ROM is a file which contains the OS you want to install. To install a ROM, you must connect your phone to USB and use special tools (use a guide to know);
-BUT before flashing, you must have SPL, which is a bootloader unlocker so you can install any ROM you want. And you can also update your radio.
Just basic info, check the guides please!

Thank you for your reply, mate. I swear all I've been doing is checking the guides and the FAQ and I still cannot manage to do the HSPL unlocker, unfortunately. It keeps giving me an error. I'm going to try in a couple of hours and see what I can come up with.
Can you please link me to any ROM that is WM6.5 and working fine? I really don't care what is missing from or added from it as long as it's working.
read the sticky, where all the guides and the rom link there
Thank you guys very much. I read the guides in the threads (BlackSTONEhenge Hyper) and the guide on how to do the HSPL thing and it worked!
Right now I am at 80% of the WM6.5 ROM installation. Hopefully everything turns out great in the end.
By the way, all I needed to backup was the SMS messages and the contacts, and I did that on a site called Bloove. Right now I can see them on bloove.com in my account, but does any body have any idea how to restore them on the HTC device using Bloove?
Thank you very much.
