seems like gingersense is leading
All this effort is made to make a full working CM7 ROM and now u ppl want GingerSense???
Idiots....
I think that Racht should finish what he started... he has made a really great work!!! But there´s only one thing that is missing from the CM7, that is the camera... I will be on CM7... Racht was great on that ROM and it´s stable, battery friendly... great
Racht´s please finish the CM7, then if you like evolve the gingersense!!!
Cheers from Portugal
maybe with gingersense we will get camera quicker
Cm7 of course!

I would be glad to see a fully working CM7 first! Gingersense can be developed after..
racht is giving us the option not many devs do that
i think he porting the gingersense rom would give us a fully functional rom and working apps including camera after some tweaking
so i think there will be faster progress as the rom already is perfect
but just needs to be tweaked for x8

If that is the case, great! I think he should say why is he trying to use other ROM... Is CM7 in the limit? And GingerSense has the solution for the camera? Racht what´s the reason behind this change in development?
Cheers
GingerSense!! FTW
May be someone could help me with the Camera, he seem to have problems of getting the camera to work, back to .15 Froyo! Still hoping for a fully working ROM

I agree with this, but if you find the solution starting w/ otther ROM..Let's Go Rach!
Sorry my english!
GingerSense VS CM7 ???
I DON'T CARE!!!!
As long as we will have fully working gingerbread for x8.
And after that, we can customize/theming in anyway we like
I really don't see any diference between CM6 and CM7. But GingerSense looks amazing. And I have fully fuctional MiniCM so I vote for GingerSense.
i hope that racht will develop GingerSense, because it is really better than cm7 (sense ui is perfect + i don't like cyanogenmod, it is like vanilla android)
go racht go !!!!
I dont mind which one, just hope getting a near perfect gingerbread rom is enough

not a fans of eyecandy rom.. performance is what I need most.
I can theme with so many widget or mod to make myown style.. not just use what million people likes.
CM already mod alot google rom to optimize the performance, I think stock sence rom is a step behind.
but.. if racht can and have enough time to finish both.. I guess with two option of rom will satisfied all rom-addict here.
but now I choose cm.

hey guys,
just wondering what all the hype is going on at the moment?
regarding the official 2.2 release i mean.
"CM6 final" has been out i think since september (i think) and that's froyo 2.2, so what's the deal or difference to the official 2.2? why is everyone freaking out and posting roms if CM6 has been available for quite some time now and CM roms offer way more functions, etc?
i don't get it, please someone lemme know why the official release should be any better?!
thx,
v.

@ first two posters: wow, very informative, thank you.
@ last poster: thx. ok that makes sense. still doubt it though that a stock rom can compete with an overclocked kernel running at 650+mhz, rooted, brutmaps for international navigation,... just to name very few functions that unofficial roms feature.
i'll definetely try an official version as soon as there is a reliable version. to see if it has any advantage. we'll see.

I've tried a few different roms, including CM5 and CM6, and nothing is as fast or as stable as my oem 1.6, rooted w/universal androot and overclocked to 528mhz.
If you're gonna compare, don't compare a modded version of the official rom, use the actual official rom.
alright, I need some help now:
there are a couple different releases in the development section and I don't understand which one is the actual official one. so far there are 4 versions (here are the thread starters):
bladyle
amazinglarry311
dasunsrule32
crios
would someone be kind enough to give a quick explanation (not in detail) what the differences are and what rom is the closest-to-official?
are they all just work arounds to make the OTA release work on all htc magics and the cookers are trying different approaches? one is changing something with the spl, one is using a CM6 rom, one is taking files from different roms and using adb commands to set everything up,...
I'd appreciate some help!
thx,

Nice job Calkulin... I'm wondering if we can use the PCSCII.apk from the thunderbolt ROM to get all of those connection options? Maybe a few files /system/lib as dependencies but maybe?
Awesome job Calk! I was beginning to thing people have forgotten about it... Very much looking forward to the release!
Will you leave everything stock on it? It would be awesome to have a stock Thunderbolt ROM. Thanks for all your hard work
Thank you Mr Calkulin. It will be my pleasure to test this for you.

4G?
Calk,
the big question is, will 4G work on this rom? (or will it become like the DesireHD Rom?)...
for sure I would make the switch from evio 1.7.7 if 4G and most of the bugs are worked out....
Great Job man...
Hope this stays stock....

What does this PORTed ROM offer that the original doesn't?
And would it even WORK if it "stayed stock?" Isn't the point of a PORT that you make modifications to force it to work on a different platform? Thus... couldn't be stock.
Anyway... back to the original question... what does this bring to the table that custom EVO builds don't bring?
Can't wait is most things working

It's the new Sense and its made for CDMA so it should work better on our phones rather then the GSM ports.
Camera is not going to be easy fix from the looks of it as the libs cause the phone not to boot

At some point Samsung will decrease the pace of development of the firmware for the original i9000, since there are a lot of new devices in the Galaxy family and they will eventually be more concerned about fixing the latest models than giving support to an old model.
Maybe 2.3.4 will be the last Android version for this device, and though I think we will see some more firmwares with bug fixes, in the short term I believe the firmware development for this device will stall
yea.. I think sammy did great job though.
as long as they fix little bugs on jvq.
I would be happy with it without further upgrade to Ice cream.

I don't like to use any custom ROM and like to stick with stock ROM but use custom kernel, such as Galaxian and Speedmod.
I have to admit that both of this kernel are great and very satisfying for me.
Lately hardcore not update its kernel while luqiqq keep updating its galaxian kernel.
So give it a try

Well when you are new to this and search and finds no results that am looking ro is why i am posting and asking for support. Might be ok for you cos your smart or so but for me am learning
Have been using the GingerXperiaRay for quite a while, it's the best ROM I've used so far, no lags, no bugs, no restarts, perfectly smooth. For a note, I have tested almost all ROMs out there for the X8.
There are so many good roms here. For stock kernel:
Prime HD by Haka - fast and smooth. Good batery life.
GingerDX - this is one rom that is part of the History. As all Doixanh's work.
These 2 represent all the new CM7 can give to our X8. Very good performance.
Now , in my opinion, however, the best Rom (I have to underline the bias of this phrase, because the best represents only user's opinion, and not necesarily a fact) is one rom that behaves and scores better than the original, stock Rom.
This rom is FroyoPro by lrakkarl.
