[Q] X8 ROM Overheat? - XPERIA X8 General

Hey Guys! Im a newbie and I like testing roms. Last rom i tested was Rahcts Easter Present(cm7-54) and i left my phone playing music while i was asleep and i woke up because i touched my phone and it was so hot. unlike other previous rom it doesnt heat my x8 that much. Is it the rom or my x8.
when i went to dev tools. my battery temperature was about 40'
Pls help.

The CM7 ROMs seem to overheat quite quickly for some reason, I've ended up going back to stock 2.1.1 for that reason and I still find that the battery can get hot in warm weather especially if I use it for an extended period of time while I've got it in a flip case.
Roland

I think its the ROM. The same happened to me when I used the ROM. Then I changed to the best Rom out there! Cannot remember the name me it right now but ill post it later I think

[Q] extended battery problem

Today i recived an extended battery , i unboxed it and then i replaced it with the one wich i got it with device, then i start my device ,run haret all things were cool till my UI start , then my device vibrated and then gone off tried with 2 builts :mattc Leo Froyo Sense 1.6b(used fresh built because the old one that used with old battery didnt work) and shubCRAFT_1.4c(used old built wich have used with my old battery)
Any solution?
I have extended battery to, not read around for a short while but drivers are needed for extended battery's to work I remember reading a thread saying someone is working on them but not heard since so +1 on that
Running• Htc Hd2 vodafone UK•
shubCRAFT 1.4d
2.11.50
There is a kernek that allows using extended bttery. However there is no temp monitering so its not recomgded to chargw in android
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
This is still being worked on throughout the builds.. i had the same issue.. but yes it is a driver related issue due to the temperature being misreported.. so it freaks out and shuts down the phone..
A work around apparently is to cover the middle terminal of the 3 on the battery with some insulation tape ( i think it's the middle one but cant remember which post it was in..)
I havent tried this personally, and wouldn't recommend doing it really but some other people have tried ...
Patience is a virtue
On a positive note, with the extended battery you can fry up some delicious flapjacks on your phone while playing Doodle Jump.

There's now a kernel that fully supports the extended batteries!! I'm using it right now and it correctly reports battery% and temp. I charged my extended battery last night inside Android and it worked without problems...

Awful Awful battery life since Darky's ROM

I have always had stock ROMS with my i9000, ending with JS7. I read the battery problems people had and I always counted myself very lucky that my phone had a pretty decent battery life.
Daily I would SMS (a lot), the odd phone call, quick blip on the internet (3g), lots of angry birds and doodle jump! I would get at least a couple of days before it went into the red.
Then I made the big mistake of installing Darky's ROM, it looks nice and feels a bit snappier, but now the battery is in the red in the evening after a full nights charge. This is even after severely curbing my phone use to try and extend the life. I have tried all the wiping tips and tricks too.
Same apps, different ROM. Darky's is an absolute nightmare for me and I will be going back to stock.
So is the ROM just another variable in the mix of battery issues, or the main offender?
Hello. I've the same battery drain, and I think it's very annoying when at evening you need to charge it again without using strongly the phone. Otherwise the Darky's rom, (I'm on 9.3) is very nice and marvellous, but this battery drain issue makes it worse.

Have you tried using spare parts to see which app is sucking baster or cpu? Did you download the rom configure tool from the market? Which gallery did you instal worth the rom?

This and:
have you let the phone drop below 10-5%?
Flashing screws up the battery indicator (how much depends) and it calibrates itself while in use. Letting the battery fall, or even the phone shut down by itself can speed up the process quite a bit. This helps only if there is no battery hungry app that's eating all your powrz though.
I haven't tried to see if there is an app sucking the life out of it because I never had any issues under the 3 or 4 stock roms and I haven't d/l any other apps. The battery deterioration started instantly I flashed with Darky's. I don't know which gallery it is, it came with the d/l. What ever it is, it doesn't work! No, didn't use the configuration tool.
I must admit I haven't let it run under 10% as I want my phone with me working. But wouldn't this manifest itself when I updated the stock firmwares?

ok mate, firstly search the market for the Darky Rom Configurator, shoudl be easy to find, you shoudl be able to reflash without wiping all your apps, run the config app first and pay special attn to the 'Lockscreen wallpaper' of the tool, there aint many options to choose. Got the gallery drain bit mixed up, sorry tired
If i was on my own PC id give a bit more detail but its pretty straight forward.
Im running 9.3 and get a full days mid-heavy use, i normally go to bed at 10-15% which is fine with me
cheers for the advice mate, I've just grabbed the app so I will do the flash in the morning.
I will report back my findings!
Just a thought but Darky's Rom uses JS5 and wondering if has something to do with the modem? Just a theory but wondering if you could replace back to JS7 and see if that helps. Just a thought. I'm used to a day's worth of battery myself these days.
The faster you make the phone go the more power you use darkest Rom are ok but messed with too much
I got really bad battery life for the first few weeks using darky. But now the battery life seems to be longer and more stable and average. I did do calibrations a few times tho.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You won't get better battery with Darky ever.
I played around quite a lot, 9.2, 9.3, calibration, fresh system, darky rom configurator, different kernels, lagfixes, no matter what, my battery drain was mad. It's a quick and smooth rom, but that's the downside of it.
I switched back to Doc's rom via kithen with same kernel, and quess what? No calibration, no playing around, nothing special I did and battery life is brilliant! Of course it lags here and there, that's Doc's drawback(no lagfix applied tho)
You will often find that if you flash a number of roms you get battery drain . Apart from the actual rom itself you need to flash to a clean firmware reset battery stats use a suitable modem charge battery once using bump charge method then wait a few weeks for it to settle down .
I am using rom kitchin since Darkys killed my battery life months ago .
JPY and JPY modem no complaints about excess battery life .
But i did flash back to clean stock before custom rom and wipe everything .

jje
but this is true even if i use a kernel mod.. instead of a full flash? i think that a stock rom with custom kernel made for battery lasting is better... or not?
Have u all tried Battery Bump Charging?
Hi, I am not a Galaxy S owner but I am doing a research on this issue for a friend.
I am a Milestone user and I am a ROM slut (I flash many ROMs back and forth)
So I am very familiar with cases where after flashing a new ROM, your 100% fully charged phone is actually 60%/
Here is a posting on a few ways you can do a battery bump charge. When you perform this battery bump charging technique, u will be surprised to see that your 100% fully charged battery is actually not 100%

SE Stock Rom Advantage!

Hello All,
I noticed there are a lot of posts regarding Battery Usage & Optimization...
I tried many many combinations of custom roms, basebands and kernels and I always face the same battery problem especially when 3G/MobileData is switched on.
I admit that Sony Ericsson gave us a ****ty stock rom with poor kernel however It's still the best rom in managing battery usage.
I made a small comparison on Stock rom VS Custom roms with 3G/MobileData left switched-on and I found the following:
Custom rom(s): battery drain down very fast it goes for 100% to 1% in less than 8 hours (normal apps installed)
Stock rom: battery lasts for 2-3 days with normal daily phone usage (same apps installed as i did in custom rom)
Please share your opinions.
Thanks,
Ayman
I don't agree at all...
Custom roms can have just as good, if not better, battery life.
I personally think this was a good idea. Nice post and info. Just curious, how long did you do this study with the data you got?

hey guys, i too have this issue, i dnt know if its device specific. ive had the phone since march(2010) last year and have been modifying it with the great mods that the devs hav given us. everytime i install a custom rom i just get unusual battery drain, like yesterday, i followed instructions to the letter and installed tripnravers miuifroyo 1.0.8 and i lost 10% battery in like 20 minutes n ive hardly used it :-(. so nowadays i stick wiv a modified stock 2.1(ewjet to b exact). im gna buy a new battery and see if i get the same results. i really wna use a custom(2.2+)rom but the battery problems are really putting me off, theres so many people out der that arent really having ny battery drain whcih jus dus my head

Thanks Voelker BTW this is my first Thread in XDA, I used to use SE 2.1 stock rom till the first stable Froyo custom rom came out. I switched to Froyo then I started to notice this around 4 months ago and I tried many combination and a lot of optimizations to find out the best one although Stock rom was always better.
@fiscidtox:
I love Foryo and GB much much more than Eclair I currently on CM6 v6 Wolfbreak
Could you please tell me how the battery lasts on your custom rom while MobileData is left switched-on?
Thanks,
Ayman
I get a full day..
If you mean stock with no tweaks then maybe it would last longer, but a lot of that would be not having jit enabled...

You must be doing something wrong!
10% in 20 mins isn't normal.
I'm sure if you left it settle this would rectify itself though.
I think the biggest advantage of the stock kernel so far is stability, but the ongoing development for the custom kernel is sucessful to implement some problems such as battery drain caused by unability to go into deep sleep etc..
I never understood needing more than 24 hours on a charge. Charge it while you're sleeping you wont be using it then anyway.
Even if you like the 2.1 Stock ROM for any reason (Stability,Battery, etc) and don't like all these awesome 2.2 and 2.3, you should at least use Eric's JET ROM which is based on the original ROM has no stability issues and has faaaaar better battery life.
But seriously, I`m using Custom ROMs since the first 2.2 ROM by Z and never even cared to get back to the stock ROM.
When I use Wifi custom roms have almost the same battery life as the stock rom. But since I can't connect to wifi at work on any custom rom, im forced to use 3g.. and I need to charge my phone twice a day with almost no usage.

can't wait till gingerbread comes out. if the performance is like the arc then I will just stick with the stock rom.

Let it settle for at least two days to see improvement.
Your battery needs to adjust, much like letting your phone build a cache, in order to really see how the rom will effect anything.
Im using the stock rom and my battery lasts a maximum of 2 days with this tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934486
I dont use 3g at all and i use wifi sometimes (session lasts only 10 mins or so)
Brightness is set to "middle" also
Sorry dont agree..
I use wolfbreaks latest rom with the undervolt module.
Juice defender only enables my wifi when i am at home...all other times i have data on with facebook sync.
I now get the same battery life as i did on stock 2.1
Currently I have been unplugged for 1day and 12 hours and I am still at 38%.

and thanks but one question about my battery after every new rom flash you have to calibrate to get the right reading on the battery and better battery life?

Let the phone die then charge it while the phone is off. Once the LED turns green leave it in the charger for another 2 hours or so. The turn it on and download battery calibration app and run that. Do that a couple times and you'll be good!

I just got done with my first full drain on both of my Anker batteries that I purchased, I honestly only bought them because they are a slightly bigger mAh and it came with 2 and a external charger so I could charge both at the same time, this way I can go super hardcore usage all the time, and never fear of battery... I still barely need the second one.. But still it will still depend on what you're needs/expectations from this particular device are.. I don't use a PC for anything.. Since my father does not like me on it, I type school papers on my phone sometimes and everything, so I rely on my phone to be there.
So
maybe just use the phone for a week and gauge what your going to need, also keep an eye on those partial wake percentages found in spare parts, or betterbatterystats on the market (not free :/)
As those wakes amount to some battery wastes.
Hopefully you can sift through this and grab some info any other questions i'm here.

also I red that task killers are bad and can mess up phone in long run

i am also on my first drain battery was on zero now its doing the full charge now so after this i should be able to do normal use now with juice defender i hope it works well
but wow you really max your phone what is the mAh on your batteries and how much was it?

I think they are advertised with 1700 mAh ... There right around 1400 but its two of them which is why I got em. I think 26$ for the while thing. Amazon, would you like the link?
Yes TJD's MIUI has a lot of battery improvements, I use that but I just can't get myself to like the MIUI because I guess it is like the iPhone too much. I am currently running CM 7 nighties because I love the cm thing, always have, I like the royal ginger 3.0 but doesn't seem like team royal is on that ship anymore. :/ shame, its a very fast ROM!

thanks those are the ones i was looking at and i think the white ones by Anker are the 1700 mAh the reviews in this alot of people say its 1400mAh I really want a 1700mAh if I am buying lol
and cool i will keep looking into MIUI was there still a big need to get new batteries using that ROM or you just see your battery getting weak period?
and with the battery improvements in MIUI does that mean gaming with cut the rope samurai 2 and fruit ninja will kill battery less?
This morning was last step in the battery calibration and battery is on 94% been on 1 hour and 31 mins with no calling at all just text and one reboot to fix some settings in juice defender I have no data coming to my phone at all till next week when new biling cycle starts but I am not sure if this is a good reading if the battery is good or not not sure
But when I opened setcpu the mhz was up to 1000mhz I had to set it to 768mhz and scaling back to conservative.
wow during this reply 2 texts came in and battery is at 93% not sure what to do I am thinking of recalibrating the battery before either buy a new battery or try MIUI what you think is best?

Always go with the cheapest option first, MIUI, then if you need to get batteries do so.. Yes? I don't pay an extreme amount of attention to percentage, I actually prefer to look at the graphical battery because as long as I have 15% I'll b ok, and it makes it seem like it is going down slower (;
Edit:::: I am at 96% been up since 6AM when I booted up after I took it off the charger, same oc settings as previously mentioned, but in editing this post went down to 95

hey sorry for late replay
and ok cool i will do MIUI tomorrow and recalibration it also lol will do it that day cuz i will see my father and he likes iphones it would b cool to go from CM7 to MIUI in front of his eyes lol but i think i might need a new batrery cuz i am now thinking back and i had a motorla cliq with blur and it was a brand new phone with new batt and all I used the cm7 nightly I loved it just hate the random reboots but battery was beautiful also gaming was cool also
I think but I will get the anker 1700mah
and I didn’t see your oc settings I also red that MIUI doesn’t need to b oc or anything its set automatically
and is your nightlys stable?
Nightly seems stable and I'm at 1700 oc ondemand kernal is TDJ
Miuidoesnt need anything changed

Well, I use Smart Keyboard PRO, because the only people I text are my gf and parents.. I call friends.. so I don't need the speedy responses this helps me pick suggestions way before I type the words. I own Swiftkey but hardly use it, for I lack the time to allow it to learn my style.. swype just doesn't jive with typing in passwords and such. I hardly have problems with SKP have used it since it was Cyril's little project when it debuted.
Now you can download the original android keyboard if you wanted to on the market I think its from Steven Lin or something... what exactly r u looking for in a keyboard?
Yea "Droid does" huh?
If you came from the iPhone I suggest using MIUI as it is like IOS a bit more then AOSP, as I'm sure u can tell.
But that's the beauty of Nandroids, don't like it? Messed up? Restore!

I seriously flashed 4 roms today, two twice since posting my percentage this morning... heavy usage the entire day, texted the entire time, and total of like 10 hours Display time... 100% brightness - 40% and I'm at 38% battery right now after finally subsiding in the CM nightlies again. I guess sense isn't my thing. And the other aosp Roms are all on like 2.3.4
Nightlies r on 2.3.7
So I guess what I'm saying is I can make it thru a whole day with extreme usage
I hope I helped somehow with everything u had a question on so far. Don't hesitate to ask anything else, I am always surfing XDA at school because I lack the interest required for note taking
Edit for typo

it could be the stock screen protecter on but I like smart keyboard pro just that its less responsive then the htc sense keyboard you know the standard keyboard with white hollow oval letter and the predictions are in rectangular oval style above looks smooth would send you a youtube link
But from you telling me your heavy usage plus switching roms I think its my battery I will flash MIUI hopefully today
and see from there and I don’t like sense earlier just feels weird I use launcher pro
And with the nightlys being 2.3.7 how come you find battery better? i am kinda confused i know games kill battery fast but what about calling n internet wifi yesterday those really hurt my battery
Also with my moto cliq I was using nightly as well I might try one do you know a safe nightly that doesn’t random reboot?
And your helping big time you have the same phone and your rooted and alls so I like the info you have shared with me thanks

The story so far.

Long term lurker, new member.
Had my I9100p for a year now and have only just got round to rooting and playing about with roms, god knows what took me so long!
Rooted 2 weeks using the Exynos exploit and patched the bug.
Installed Titanium Backup Pro and begun tinkering and freezing apps.
Spent a day or two convincing myself I was only rooting to freeze bloatware and improve performance and battery life.
Decided I wanted a new ROM as I was bored of ICS.
Flashed CWM recovery with the Clockwork Mod app.
Made complete backup using CWMR and TBpro
Chickened myself out for a few days.
Committed. Downloaded Rootbox V3.2 (slightly older and running 4.1.2 but this was an I9100p ROM) and saw the light. Speed and battery life through the roof. Light usage day, (40+ texts , Twitter/FB checking , 20 mins of phone calls and maybe 20 minutes of internet browsing) only used something like 25% of the Battery.
Got bored of 4.1.2 and wanted to see 4.2 in action.
Downloaded and flashed JellyBam V7.7 (Yesterday)
Customised the look, played about with it, got lost in all of the settings.
Changed my RIL as it was not working particularly well, think it may be because my Baseband is for the i9100p but im running an i9100 ROM.
Flashed NFC enabler from a thread on this forum , activated NFC and gave me the options back, however couldnt seem to disable the NFC just kept re-enabling itself and drank 30% of the battery overnight by keeping the phone awake for 10 hours(the time from me flashing it to me getting up the next morning).
Flashed the NFC remover. ( I can live without NFC )
Today I have mostly spent trying various tweaks and settings to help battery life(disabled media scanner, apparently a known bug which can drain battery). Will give it a few days before making a call on whether I keep Jellybam or flash to another ROM/back to rootbox.
A few minor bugs I have seen so far include,
Loss of screenshot ability due to disabling media scanner for battery life- Not a major dealbreaker but a bit of a PITA at times.
Soft reboots on unlocking, still see a few people beginning to mention this on the JellyBam forums.
[*] Fairly major- No data or 3G connections.
It is addictive, I want to flash another ROM and compare the differences already!
So thanks to all of the hard work people on this forum have put in and to all of the developers who make things like this easy and possible to the masses, although you may have destroyed all of my free time for the near future!
yep, it is addiction... flash flash flash flash
Hi... I hear ya bro... I'm on a super nexus ROM for about 4weeks. But I'm getting ready for a change. Thinking of trying a cyanogen ROM next...

Just reflashed back to RootBox - I loved the look of the JellyBam but the contant soft reboots and the issues with the signal drove me to dispair in one day! haha

Can't wait to try out Rootbox, have been hearing mostly good stuff about it.
