[Q] Google Voice Issue - Unable to call from GV number - Xperia Arc General

Has anyone been able to successfully make outgoing calls through Google voice on their Sony Ericsson Arc?
I've done some searches on Google and this forum and it appears others are experiencing the same issue but there isn't a workaround yet.
Thanks in advanced!

Yes, I have been able to make calls with the Voice Search function. It works very well, similar to Vlingo.
Simply say CALL 'contact name'. If the 'contact name' has multiple phone numbers(work, home, cell, etc) it brings up a pop up box and you select the one you want and it dials.
Or you can simply say CALL 'contact name' HOME and it will find the home number and dial it direct.

Now for my question in the Google Voice search. It has to do with sending an SMS message. I am using the stock SMS app. If you say TEXT "contact name" MESSAGE "how are you?" it will send a text message to your contact with the message "how are you?"
Your contact gets the message but a copy of what you sent is not in SMS for that contact. I tested this a couple of three ways. My contact gets my message just fine and I can get their response in SMS like a normal message but I can not see what I sent them. The only exception to this is if you are already in SMS and in the text box and using a keyboard (such as Swype) that has a microphone button, if you speak your message while in the text box it will save a copy of what you sent in the SMS.
Otherwise if you are outside of the SMS program and use the Voice Search to send a text message your contact gets the message but you do not get a copy of the text that was actually sent.
Anyone else try this yet?

Using voice control to start a call is not the same as using Google Voice to make a call - Google Voice is Google's VOIP service which can be integrated into Android handsets.

voice recognition

so I was wondering if anyone has any good voice recognition software for hereld. I want to do voice to text! I want to be able to speak out my text messages. for example: open text. then say my message. then say send to. hit me up if you got anything.

Text messaging app and contact tags

Is "Mobile" the only allowed tag for SMS on the built in messaging app? Whenever I compose a new sms, I can only select a number associated with someone's mobile phone as the recipient address. Since I use google voice, I'd rather have mobile linked to the actual user's number and something like "other" or custom linked to the SMS phone number associated with google voice's SMS service (You need to mess with google voice to know what I'm talking about). If I put that number in as a second mobile number, I want to make sure that it doesn't dial that google voice text messaging number when I call a contact, but I don't want to go through all 4k of my contacts and tag a primary mobile or something.
Any google voice users figure a workaround?

Answering my own question. I guess when you are in the stock contacts application and press the profile picture button of your contact, and hit the SMS button in that little menu of items that comes up, it defaults to google voice SMS. very nice. that little graphic menu is pretty cool too.
This is good info, thank you. I've had this issue myself as I often have 3-4 mobile numbers + a gvoice number for some of my contacts.

Ignore call with text using Google Voice

I love the feature of allowing me to ignore a call with an automatic text message. Is there a way to do this using Google Voice text instead of the Samsung text app?
I've thought the same, but haven't found a way to do it.

Google voice and SMS

It was driving me nuts that in order to get my SMS through my messaging app and use GV for my voicemail to be getting double notifications every time I was receiving a text. I have noticed a few others expressing their frustration with this as well so I thought I'd share what I have done to work for me. Maybe someone else will find it helpful, or less frustrating anyway, too.
First on my phone, I went into the GV > Settings > Sync and notifications and turned off Inbox notifications.
On my PC I went into GV Inbox, then Voice Settings. I clicked on Edit for my phone and made sure there was a check in Receive text messages on this phone and clicked on Save.
Then I click on Voicemail & Text. Under Send a text (SMS) message to I put a check next to my phone. I also put a check next to Transcribe Voicemails and click on Save Changes.
GV must have updated their transcribing software because lately it has been almost spot on.
Anyway, what this does is now I receive my texts through my messaging app and when I get a new voicemail, I receive a text with the transcribed message notifying me that I have a voicemail. The text includes the caller's number so I can return their call directly if the transcription makes sense. I do not receive any notifications directly from GV so no more double notifications.
I keep a shortcut to GV on my default home screen so I can get to the GV inbox directly.
Also, if you use GV extension in chrome, your texts and voicemail notifications still work so you won't have to go to your phone.
I hope someone finds this useful, or if anyone finds a way to only be notified of voicemails, please share, but this really has worked much better for me.
On somewhat of a related note after reflashing my rom and then reinstall of GV I started getting all my texts through GV and all my calls were being screened by Google. Ended up having to remove my phone from GV and then removed GV from my phone. At reinstall I had to make sure not to combine my sprint account and my Google account. Now GV is working again and texts are worked too.

So I tried your way, Poashll. . . but, I still got the dual notifications (GVM and text). So, I've gone a different route.
1. Check the box for "Synchronize Inbox" in GV > Settings > Sync and notifications.
2. Check the box for "Inbox notifications" in the same menu and uncheck "Text messages."
3. On the PC and in GV settings for phone > edit > uncheck the box for "Receive text messages on this phone" > save.
4. Still on the PC and in GV settings for voicemail and text, I make sure the boxes for "Email the message to:" and "Send a text (SMS) message to:" in the voice mail notifications section are unchecked.
I moved the GV shortcut to my "unused/special" pane for easy access for whatever reason.
With this, the only notifications I get are a missed call and the GVM notification. I left transcribe on as well. . . just in case I can actually read it. All of my SMS/MMS come through the Sprint app. . . which makes sense due to the GV MMS issue.
Just another option. . .
EDIT: I just realized that I misread your post and disabled "Sychronize Inbox" insead of "Inbox notifications". . . I guess it's different flavors to the same-ish end result.

I never ported my Sprint number to GV, so it works only as voicemail. I do get emails with the transcription though. I unchecked texts in the app itself. It sends people that didn't have issues did once they were able to port their number.

Yeah, I was dead-wrong with my approach. I thought incoming text messages had been checked, but GV is still intercepting them. . . which is annoying. So I can "uncheck" my phone in settings through the pc and that should make it a voicemail only app?

[Q] Samsung Gear Live won't send text?

I got the Samsung Gear at IO (yea) and have been going through the user adjustment phase, happily have pretty much everything working (I use a Galaxy Nexus as the phone stock. I receive text and I can send emails (from the watch) but for some reason I can't send text from the watch. It says it is sent, goes through all the motions, asks for recipient, clarifies to send to the mobile number and gets the text via voice and then says it is sending and gives a success green check, but the message is lost does not show on phone hangout or messaging log, nor does the recipient get it.. Anyone have any ideas?? or is my problem unique to me?
Hidden choice message on Phone for sending text
Finally found my "missing texts.. when I was sending, the phone was opening a choice dialog to choose between Google voice or messaging, I chose messaging and checked always and all is now working, buy the way retweeting to twitter using the bunting app has a similar issue, it opens the native vs edit retweet chice, which cannot be set to default one way so you need to pull the phone out...
