HTCSense can't locate phone? - G2 and Desire Z General

I've registered my phone with HTCSense.com, but when I login to www.htcsense.com I get the message that the site cannot locate my phone. Could this be anything to do with the fact that I run Launcher Pro as my shell instead of the standard Sense shell?
I also don't get a Dashboard option when I login to htcsense.com - only the following options:
- Forward calls/messages
- Make phone ring loud
- Secure my device
Has anyone else had this problem?

Im afraid i don't know why it is but it is not your launcher.
Did you flash a different Rom because that would do it or in the settings there is a tickbox about locating it. Hope this helps.

I'm using the stock ROM, and have "Phone finder" checked in Location settings
???

htcsence.com is notably flakey -- though it has worked for me the last few times I've tried it. I think it's very much a "work in progress"

I just received this reply from HTC support:
"We are aware of this issue that you reported. It is being investigated as a priority.
Over the past few months HTC has been undertaking an upgrade to HTCSense.com in order to enhance the web experience for our customers, extend service availability and increase service quality and up time. Features of Footprints, People, Messages and HTC Hub are turned off for performance tuning at the same time. Currently, new registered accounts could only see these main features: find my phone, call and message forwarding and lock and erase my phone. Over the next few months as we complete the upgrade, more features will be added into accounts. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to make the HTCSense.com experience even better."

I cant locate my phone with the dashboard using Revolution HD 5.2.1.
This is todays project.

Don't worry about it, HTC will find your phone somewhere off the coast of Africa, or Costa Rica, lol

newbie user - not impressed

Okay, so I've been lurking for ages and trying to make my mind up between the Xperia and the touch HD. I got fed up waiting and went for the Xperia (free with unlimited internet £35/month) from Carphonewarehouse.
My initial impressions were:
-lovely screen
-keyboard useable (better than on-screen versions on touch HD & iPhone)
-SLLLOOOWWWWW touchflo3D
BUT, since then I have noticed appalling reception at home (I used to have an XDA atom which had far superior reception)
I have also noticed that the sony ericsson writing on the front of the phone is falling off (I've had the phone 5 days)
I can't receive 3G - I'm probably doing something wrong here!
I can't send emails (I'm on O2 and trying to send emails using my lineone.net account, now part of tiscali) - I've tried every permutation I can think of but to no avail!
Sorry for the multiple groans/incompetences but if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful as the phone has such potential, its just not as amazing as I'd hoped for..........
Oh, one positive note today, I installed the SPB mobile shell which is superb - super quick and really easy to use with fingers not stylus!!!
about reception of 3g then if you see a 3g or h in your reception bar you recieve it some
operators require special sim for devices to recieve it though
about mails there there seem to be a bug with imap in some versions of wm
and not all phohe companys have the correct ports open to alow normal imap and pop3 and smtp mail
and about touchflo3D being slow then if you use both panels and touchflo3D which is not native to the x1 the 2 compeating ui interfaces is bound to take it's toll on the power of the hardware and the memory in the phone
First, TF3d is not build for X1 and you should not expect much from it.
Second, you should try some cooked roms (e.g. mine or itje) in the rom sections and you should found they runs a LOT faster than stock.
Thanks
Rudegar,
Thanks for the prompt response. I got sent a new 3G sim today but it still doesnt work - I'll phone CPW again tomorrow when their O2 helpline opens.
Jack,
Yes, I've seen the cooked ROMs but was a little apprehensive to run them for fear of bricking my Xperia. For now I'm sticking with the mobile shell interface which suits my needs (near) perfectly.

You should set your outgoing mail server to smtp.o2.co.uk
yep, tried that first - no joy!
Thanks for advice though.
tflo3d works flawlessy, check what you have installed

HTC Friends Matches

Every few days my phone shows a list of Friend Matches - typically random contacts from my address book. I keep having to ignore them, only for the same contacts to reappear a few days later. Is there any way of suppressing this behaviour?

Jep me too.. it is a little weird?

I was getting fed up with Sense Friends Matches, so emailed HTC.
Reply was nothing can be done, so I deleted Sense account.
Same here
The same contact got 20+ request notifications, at least the last time it was only once, what a crap.
Hum, seems like the request themselves are for other random users, but they are only shown as someone in your contact list, so, if you go to htcsense.com -> people -> HTC community -> matches, you would see all the people being suggested.
In my case there are 118, but all appeared as a friend of mine,
seems that there is no way to turn this crap off
I just disabled HTC Sense > Sync HTC Sense to disable it. Not a proper fix but at least you don't get the annoying message to link to the same friend over and over.

HTC Sense + Facebook Sync = Epic fail?

Hi Folks
Don't know if i have found major flaw in the HTC Sense and Facebook sync software.
Here is the story, i have all my contacts stored on my phone with the correct phone numbers. And you know how you can link your contacts in your phone with there facebook profile so that you get there profile picture showing up and there latest status update scrolling along the screen when they call you? So that is all very pretty and cool but......
I have just discovered that if the persons profile has there phone number added to it, HTC will decide that it knows your contacts better than you and CHANGE the phone number you have stored in your phone for that person to an INCORRECT format.
Here is what i mean, the numbers in my phone book are stored as 07 or +447 as the start digits (I'm in the UK and all mobiles start 07). When i link the contact with there facebook profile and the profile has a phone number stored, HTC Sense will automatically change the number in my phone into the following format: 447*********
Now if you note that number has no + at the start of it and this means that i CANNOT phone that person! It took me about a month to work out why i couldn't call half the people in my phonebook, everytime i phoned someone it would say 'the number you have dialled has not been recognised!' and i eventually worked it out the HTC and Facebook have effed up my phone book.
Now this wouldn't be such an issue if you could edit the number to the correct format but you CAN'T!!! When you go to edit the number it shows the number in the correct format that i had originally entered it! ie. either 07 or +447!
So for the now i have had to unlink all my contacts from Facebook and have ended up with a pretty boring screen when people phone or txt me.
Anyone else had this issue? Or know how to fix it?
If HTC read this can you issue a fix? Because i don't think that you or facebook knows better than i do!
no problem here i have linked to facebook and my numbers work
I have both 447######## and 07######## type numbers they work ok
my 447 numbers are facebook contacts i did not have thier numbers previously and my 07 numbers are mates I already had their numbers and linked afterwards
Hope this helps
Well must b something to do with my network (o2) or whatever. Cos i certainly can't dial a 447 number.
But the main point i think is why does HTC think its knows what your stored number should be? lol
Cyberdyne systems are certainly starting to take over now surely! lolol
fail
epic fail i think
Indeed epic...
I got exactly the same problem with Polish operator Plus GSM -> cant call contact which was synchronized with Facebook...
HTC Sense shows all contacts which were synced with Facebook without leading "+" or "00" which ends up with message like "The number you have dialed has not been recognized"
Any one know how to fix it...??
BR
Greg
P.S. Hope HTC will read this topic.. .
Same problem with me in Georgia.
only workaround, I've found is begging all my friends, not to specify phone numbers on facebook
If anyone has a solution, I will be very grateful.
Yep same here, definitely a bug. I will research this one....

Hi,
I contacted an official HTC Support to help in this case.
They confirmed that this bug exist, but they also pointed Facebook and the Facebook Phonebook as a bug source.
I was also recommended to use "Prefixer" from Android Market to temporarily solve this problem.
BR
Greg
Wow! thanks,
will try Prefixer as soon as I can
Yep it's a flaw, I used a little workaround but it would change back when receiving a text or something. Edit facebook number set it to home rather than mobile then let it save go back into out then save the homer number as mobile. I think that's how I did it. I use aosp rom now.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Foxy are you saying the AOSP ROM has this bug fixed out of the box? If so I can investigate that ROM and maybe make a patch
Prefixer works for calls but not for text

Yeah, I'm sure you can reverse engineer HTC's crappy phone dialer/messaging/contacts.
AOSP works out of the box because it uses AOSP apps.

+1 on that comment. Our developers have put a lot of time to give us what verizon is just pushing to us. My wife downloaded the update and after comparing, I still love my 2.9.2 better. She gets jealous cause I still have a better theme and several other options.
Anyone know if there's any reason to get the OTA update if we were already on the leaked release?

Would anyone be able to tell me if there is an app like HTC Sense online that lets me see where my phone is at any time?

The best & free solution is already on your phone. On your SGSII Go to Settings>Accounts & Sync. Create a Samsung account there if you haven't already. Then go to samsungdive.com to track your device, lock it, make it ring if lost.
what if it is stolen and the ROM has been changed?
Cerberus protects even starting without a Sim or a different one, and capture photos if wrong screen lock, call logs and SMS, remote wipe, tracking with GPS, phone wake and scream, popup message, apply extra lock, call phone even if you don't know the number, record calls, hide app, etc. can be SMS or Web activation, Cheap lifetime license and can be installed on 5 devices. Vendor built Sim checker before then two years ago and I can confirm that service is still running. can be moved to /system/app and survives factory reset, Basically only new flash ROM will kill it.

With remote lock applied from Web site
Lol just saw can take photo on demand and email it, or if phone finder dismisses a popup request to return the phone.
Used push notification unlike Samsung solution which I found was battery killer

I didn't still find the right one ;-) and still searching....
Guys,
I have lost my Galaxy S1 earlier this year; had Samsung dive setup while the phone was lost, but did not help me.The phone was switched off by the time I realized the loss.
I guess, folk who get their hand on some ones phone, kinda know what to do with the Samsung beasts/beauties. Handovers to someone to wipe and flash, would be their best bet, I reckon. I am sory, not taking about all honest folks who would have return the devices to the actual owners.
Since then, have been searching for solutions which are wipe proof / flash proof but not successful. I have even checked android feature request sometime back ,found none.
Since then I have been thinking of this crazy idea that Google needs to implement as part of android OS.
Since we are registering phone / market app on the phone with Google with a gmail id, why can't Google associate the IMIE of the phone with that gmail id ?
If the registered user decides to sell / transfer the phone to someone else the registered user, the register user of the phone initiates the request for transfer with another gmail id / approves the request from another gmail id, without which all/most to the Google support Android features like maps, browser, market ,emails would not work.
i am not finished yet.., android should have a feature to re-confirm the ownership regularly every after a fixed duration of time, which can be user defined. As long as he/she is on data connection, the renewal is a silent process with the cached credentials on the device. If not, provide some window of time time reconfirm the ownership, failing which the lock the features down to just phone calls / limited set user defined and basic android operations. This could be a optional feature, rather than losing the phone and would opt for this feature and i wont mind reconfirming my phone ownership at regular intervals
If someone lost an android phone , he/she has to just change the registered gmail account password which would make if difficult to renew the ownership. If the phone has a data connection, using the registered Google account on the lost device, one should be able to push a message to displayhttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon9.gifed on the lock screen and home screen. Similar to ChromeTohone / SendToPhone feature.
Mandatory reconfirmation on every flash which are not Non -Wipe. On devices with NFC/ similar chips with writable memory, the ownership details can be written to it and will not be wiped off by wipe or flashing.
Also I would make a humble request to all devs and ROM chefs to keep their busy hands off this feature, if implemented. Ethical stuff
We all love/hate our android phones but won't want to loose them, please let me know you feedback.
PS : I have moved on since my SGS1 only after mouning the loss, but now owns a SGS2
androidlost is the best
