Can't seem to attach multiple files through the native gmail app... - Galaxy S II General

So my problem is this.
On other android phones I normally would go to the gallery, select multiple photos, and then click share with, and then choose gmail, voila done.
But for some reason on my Galaxy S2, this doesn't work. I've tried using astro, I've tried doing it from within the gmail app itself, and from the gallery. None of these allow me to select multiple files at once for attachment. The only thing I can do at the moment is select one at a time and attach multiple files that way. Doable, but most definitely annoying. Any solutions?
Note: I'm using a korean SKT branded Galaxy S2 running 2.3.3
Okay... well I'm officially mentally challenged. I guess it changed since i used froyo.
Now you press More, then Send Via.
Then Gmail pops up.
Hopefully this'll help someone else who was confused like me..

THANK YOU!!!
It makes absolutely no sense that they changed the behavior to be a hidden function. Why should "Share via" and "More/Share via" be different? Makes no sense.. hope they fix that..

Email Anoying Me

Hi guys, I've had my HD2 for a few weeks now and i'm loving it (Just come from an iPhone aswell). But there are two things anoying me, and I want to fix them.
1. Is there anyway to stop the Squares showing in the Email preview, as far as I know they are image placeholders and they make the email preview look a mess.
2. Is there a way to download all the images in the email message automatically. Because at the moment its telling me its blocked due to privicy settings and I have to click to download them in every email..
Thanks for any help guys.
Hiya, that is annoying me too maybe it is a limitation of sense 2.5? and I am pretty certain the other bit about internet content being blocked such as pictures cannot be turned off.
I have tried this myself by downloading all the email +attachments but nothing so far works.
Anyone know a fix for these like the original poster commented on?
Yeah, I'd like to know if there's a reg hack or similar for that, does my head in as well. It completely spoils an otherwise very good email app

This looks like a font issue to me. Maybe there's characters in the emails that aren't in the font that the email preview tab uses. I don't know, but that's what it looks like.

You can't make it automatically download images for security reasons. Embedded images can be the cause of much spam, and can also be used (in rare cases) for spreading malware.
Also, the email application that you see when you click an email in the Sense UI is actually part of Windows, not Sense.
I'll be very suprised if you ever find a way to make it automatically download images, and I wouldn't want my phone to become virus-ridden so would never use it if it did exist.
The squares you see in the email preview are the symbols for the "enter" key.
When you get an email from someone that has more lines and that person pressed enter or more enters at the end of a line those enters end up being squares in the email preview.
Unfortunately you cant do anything about it. I'm a software developer and i know about this issue from my work. It's HTC's job to eliminate the squares and it has to be done in the code. We can't do it by ourselves.
I would love to have the images downloaded automatically as well, but Microsoft didn't provided an option for this. At least let us chose whether we want to be secure or not.

It's not that at all. It's any character that is not defined in the font that's used. If you like, I can take a screenshot of an email that is FULL of boxes, and I know for a fact that they're not all line breaks/page returns.
The enter key doesn't cause it, or you'd see it at the end of every line that has a line break/page return, and you don't. But anyway, this isn't resolving the issue, so I'll bow out
Yeah, i'm sure the font doesn't cover all the characters... well... its HTC's fault on this one.

Laying fault anywhere, whether correct or not, does not help these guys resolve the issues they've raised. Let's keep it on topic eh?

Well, i could suggest that someone with good knowledge of wm should look into the fonts being used in the emails. Maybe they can be changed. I'm sure new fonts can be installed but i don't know how to change them and where.
Its also possible that this issue is unsolvable because of the current coding of the email tab in sense. We need to know for sure what's causing the problem.
any follow up on this guys ?? would like to get it sorted

Pictures in Gmail??

I can't believe that even on my beautiful sleek Nexus One, I can't view embedded email pictures. Does anyone know why this is? And if not maybe some one knows how to fix it? This is actually ridiculous if you ask me, its the Gmail app that has been made by Google for a Google operating system on a Google phone but it can't display embedded email pictures? Whats going on here?
It works fine for me... Did you push the "Show Pictures" button near the top of the email?
Sometimes they show up for me. Usually they don't though and I always press 'show pictures'. I love the phone bit its the least of my issues: I can't send mms to any phone bit android, I get 'uportal error' on a common site that the iPhone 3g and 3gs access no problem, and I often get a quarter of an inch of orange load bar when clicking a link in the browser which sometimes is only remedied by a phone reset. I have loved all 3 of my android phones though and Its google we're talking about. They are all about te internet and I trust they are diligently working to improve te average, albeit fast browser experience.
I just read my post and good God this keyboards tough to type on.

I have pressed show picture, all i get is a question mark in a little blue box and i can see the frame of the picture that is spoused to be there. I know im not the only person people. Don't make me feel like im the only one here..
Currently, the gmail app does not support embedded pictures in emails. When you see pictures it's because the person attached the picture to the email. The only way to see embedded pictures in an e-mail on your phone is to log into gmail through the browser. This has been like this since 1.5 and has been submitted to google numerous of times. Hopefully they will fix this problem.

/agree with mgorman.....
Embedded pictures is working just fine in the Gmail app, had some ad-spam from Direct2Drive, Apple, Impulse etc in my inbox just now and they all had embedded pictures. Clicked show pictures and it worked like a charm, this was also over 3g network.
As far as I know I can't take screenshots with an un-rooted phone, so I've attached a picture.

You can use the Android sdk to take pictures of the phone:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Make sure USB debugging is on, plug in phone to PC
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools -> ddms.bat
Not sure what you guys are talking about. Embedded pictures work absolutely flawlessly on my phone
Ah of course via the SDK. Been developing for Android for some time, but I've only been using the emulator since I've been too lazy to actually hook up my phone

do you have astro file manager installed? there is an option in this app that allows you to download otherwise un-downloadable files through the stock browser that makes pictures in email not work (according to the setting in the app itself)

HTC Tweet

Could any of you new T-mobile owners let us know if the twitter app still has the bug where it never deletes tweets.....rendering it fairly useless.
yes im interested in that too, i would like to see if there is an updated version.. its badly needed.
There is however a fix to manually delete the tweets from time to time.. i do this about 1s a month and it stays fast (dont follow a lot of ppl tho)
Yes i know about the manual delete but its a pain, im noticing slow down after only 4 or 5 days. maybe I should turn auto update off. I have actually ditched it for the time being and am using motweet which is actually very good even the free one (with adverts) however this renders another sense tab useless. Has anyone developed a cab that will allow us to remap the sence tab to a different program?
Same here, made a topic about this a few weeks ago.
Mind telling me the manual method of deleting tweets? I can't seem to find it on this forum... Also, will tweets still remain on the server or would this delete them permanently?

copy from someone else
1. turn off htc sense (I forget how. it's in settings)
2. sync your phone.
3. explore and go through these folders: temp >> twiteng.
4. delete the files in the twiteng folder.

good luck, this will not delete anything from the twitter server, only ur local tweet cache
I wonder how hard it would be for a dev to write a cab that automated the process?

and maybe let that script automatic run according to a schedule.. that'd be nice.
however i dont think someone will make the time to make this since there are few people having this issue..
Thanks jamieeeee, now I see why the workaround is such a pain. It's still doable once in a while though.
yes a shedule would be good, Although i would be happy for it to run every couple of days deleteing everything over 24 hours old.
Have started a thread in the apps forum to see if there is any interest. I cant really understand why there isnt more people having this issue, I can only presume not many win mobile users are twitter users. For me Intergrated twitter was one of the reasons i bought the HD2, was also a little dissapointed that it didnt integrate tweeters with contacts like it does with facebook. to me twitter is a much more obvious social networking platform for mobile than facebook is.
Well that attracted bugger all responces, looks like i will be sticking to motweet.

Can you send them and it posts to the site?

yeah you can send tweets without any problem (at least i can)
the mistake HTC made is not having a maximum number of tweets in the tab.. that means it keeps downloading new one's and never throws out any old one's.. you can do the math.. it gets slower and slower till its unusable

[Q] Eclair MMS app on Froyo?

Hello everyone!
Just recently I got the 2.2 OTA for my Droid (rooted) and I'm absolutely loving it, except for one thing: the new MMS app. I strongly dislike the new look; I don't want to see my own profile icon and I definitely don't want to see several of each icon. I really liked the way the Eclair MMS app looked, and I really liked seeing my friends' facebook statuses next to their contact icon.
I've tried replacing the Froyo Mms.apk with the Eclair Mms.apk, which could display everything and worked perfectly fine except for when I actually went to send a message. It would force close and never show that the message actually sent, even though I got replies back, so I know they sent. Also, in order to get this to work, I had to remove Mms.odex. Once I saw that the Eclair app displayed everything and seemed to work fine, I (foolishly) erased my backup of Mms.odex and now I can't run the standard Froyo Mms.apk. Luckily, I did find a modified app that I can use in the meantime, so I'm not totally out of luck right now.
Is there any way to get the old Eclair MMS app/look back? I would REALLY love it! And please don't just suggest Handcent or Chomp. I've tried them and I just don't like them. I went through all the styling and customization options and I just couldn't get it to look like I want. All I want is the old Eclair app back, not alternatives (unless they look almost identical to Eclair's). If it's impossible, I guess I'll deal with it, but "impossible" and "Android" don't really go together...
Thanks in advance!
edit:
I attached two screenshots taken out of an emulator, just in case anyone isn't familiar (why you'd need to see them, I dunno, but I figure more info is better).
Bump. This is a good question. I hadn't really even though about how much better the 2.1 vs 2.2 SMS/MMS app. I knew there was something different but thank you for laying it out. I'm having a problem where the app isn't posting my icon. It is synced with my Facebook contacts so I don't see why it doesn't show my avatar, and if it isn't supposed to then why even change it? No sir, I don't like it. If there is any way to downgrade to the earlier messaging app I would very much be interested in knowing.

[THINK TANK] Facebook adobe air?

http://github.com/jubishop/Facebook-for-Adobe-AIR
Source code for Facebook client for Adobe Air
We have air for Froyo now.
Is it possible to compile into android air apk for a GOOD Facebook client?
For the love of God, please.
technically if it were developed using adobe's software tools and is sourced for AIR it shouldn't be hard to port in to an .apk i guess we shall see...
Have you actually tried Facebook for Air? It's just a news feed and status bar. No other features. It is worse than Android Facebook.
Plus, AIR apps must be optimized for mobile. This one wouldn't be too hard to optimize if you have all the code, but it isn't just BOOM throw it into Flash CS5 and BOOM export to APK.
i was really hoping for something good out of this...facebook for android is downright HORRIBLE. I don't understand why the iphone version has not been put to use on android, considering there are more android running devices than ios.
Well, from the other apps I have converted, this should be easy.. will report back soon!
-edit
not sure if this will work as is, with the popup to login and all.. but I will try
Thanks dg

The fact that when you get a notification it takes you to the mobile site is a big issue, unless I'm missing something. That just seems like they got lazy in their design because you can view all of your updates manually. Also a lack of IM feature also kind of sucks. It's got a nice look to it, but the iphone facebook app is much better.

can't get push notifications either. you have to keep refreshing your app.
if you click the "messages" tab too quickly and pick a thread you were already messaging someone in, it shows up blank and you have to restart facebook... sooo frustrating
My biggest gripes are no push notifications, no tagging, no picture commenting, no liking statuses, and no "places" functionality.

i think facebook is just doomed for android lol
The biggest gripe I have is previously on my Dream(G1 for AT&T Canada) they ported the nexus facebook app over- which is the same app with a few more features. They had the ability to Sync your pictures/updates with contacts in your phone. It worked like the official twitter app works. On our phone its just plane broken. If you uninstall-reinstall the app and go through the setup it will give you a "finish" button after signing in the first time. If you hit your back button on the touchpad you will see the contact sync. Sad thing though is its just broke. If you Go to your accounts sync in settings you will see the SNS setings up top then the Facebook down below your Gmail. If you click on it though nothing happens- on my Dream it went back into the facebook app's sync settings.
I also agree with the other points people have brought up on no comments on pics etc. The app will eventually be updated for the Galaxy but until then we just have to live with crap. I decompiled the app back in the day and wanted to modify it a little bit but never got around to actually doing it. If I was to modify the Official Android app, would this violate copyrights? Is it based under GNU licensing? I have seen "Colored" versions of the Official app in the market and wondered if they were violating terms by selling a black version of the exact same app? Anyone care to shed some light?

So youre telling me you see this: (pictures are in order according to my post on how to get there)
http://wtfokc.com/sef****/0.pnghttp://wtfokc.com/sef****/2.pnghttp://wtfokc.com/sef****/3.png
This is what happens on my Cog2.2 B7. I reinstalled fresh, get the first sign in, then I get "Finish". If you hit your back button you then get the Sync options. This function however doesnt work for me and hasnt on any of the Rom's Ive tried so far on teh captivate. I have read a lot on it and it appears to be a problem on all the Galaxy devices. If yours is working, I'd like to know how?
Only thing I can think is you have your SNS settings setup? Those are the ones in Account/Sync options at the Top -> Facebook, Myspace, Twitter. If so, they will auto sync pictures and junk for you- however it loses links very often- or did for me in previous versions of cog. I would get wall posts and pics in my contacts.. then next day I'd only get twitter, if I got any at all. Also my contacts would lose thier pictures and wouldnt let me re-add or associate them again. I would try over and over to reconnect the contacts to FB and couldnt unless I totally removed the account and reset it. This hap'd multiple time for me. It was rather craptastic syncing and aggravating..so I stopped using the built in SNS accounts all together and just use the official apps now. Only downfall is Facebook's sync doesnt work, twitter's however does.
