If I change the screen timeout from anything other than 30 seconds and then return to the desktop or another app and then return to the settings, it is still is set back at 30 seconds.
Any suggestions?

Not happening with mine. Try rebooting it and trying again.
If it still happens, make sure you don't have any apps that may be causing the settings to stick like power savers or something.
Apologies for bumping my own thread, but I still can't get my screen timeout to be anything other than 15 seconds.
Even with Locale installed and set for a 10-minute screen timeout, it still uses the default 15 seconds, not the Locale setting.
The only way around it is to use Screebl and keep my tablet tilted enough to prevent the timeout.

Same here but mine goes back to 10, even if I don't reset or power off the device.
phoneAlarm
on my device i found it was PhoneAlarm. I use the profiles, and under the profile settings the backlight was set high. So im guessing for you guys it might be a profile issue too?
While I'm using Waze GPS for navigation, the screen goes off after x seconds (according to my screen timeout settings).
Is this normal? Shouldn't the screen be always on while I'm inside the app?
Thanks in advance

Yes it should, though I have noticed that if the Screen timeout is set to 15 seconds, it doesn't work. only 30 and above. Try it
The app has to specifically tell the phone that the screen should not be turned off. Check the settings of the app; it might have a setting that keeps the screen always on. If it doesn't, you can find some apps in the market that will keep the screen on when a specific application is running.
I use Waze on my SII and the screen doesn't time out. Although, as a eitama suggested, my screen timeout is set to 30s instead of the default 15s. Give that a try for sure.
My screen is set to turn off after 15 seconds. Lately it has not been any ideas?

Go in to your main settings page, look under "display" (where you change your timeout) and see if you have "smart stay" enabled... this uses the front camera to see if you're near your screen and if so it keeps the screen active..
Just tossing out ideas... maybe stupid ones.
Did u do the *#0011#* WiFi fix? This happens to me after I change the sleep settings. Seems to fix itself after a while without a reboot though.
Hi all,
Kind of a strange issue I'm noticing with my Nexus 4. The phone seems to, by default, have a screen turn-off time setting of "after 15 seconds of inactivity" for the display options. I tend to like to have my screen stay on a little longer especially if I'm in the middle of a conversation or I'm watching something and my attention gets diverted momentarily. 15 seconds is just way too short. So I change it to a larger value, like 2 minutes for example, and the setting keeps, for a while. But every so often it will start turning off quickly again and when I check, sure enough it has reverted back to 15 seconds. I'm not sure what's causing this... an app? An errant setting with the phone? Weird bug that has yet to be fixed? Rebooting the phone does not seem to solve the issue, nor has anything else I've tried to this point.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I have set the display timeout to 1 minute of inactivity, and 30 seconds to lock after sleep, however my phone turns off the display after 10 seconds or so, but definitely less than desirable 1 minute. The "lock" appears to work fine (locks after 30 secs after the screen is off, just as set up). I'd really like to extend the time of inactivity, since 10 secs is not enough. Please advise.

Try changing to 5 minutes instead of 1 minute.

Thanks. I have tried several intervals up to 30 mins, including 5 minutes. No luck. The screen goes dim in about 7+/- seconds then turns off a couple seconds later. I have to constantly touch it to keep it on which is annoying. The power button brings it back on without authorisation if pressed in under 30 secs (lock after sleep).
Exactly the same behaviour when plugged in and charging.
Some people here complain about their phones not going to sleep unless power button is pressed. I am experiencing exactly the opposite problem. My phone goes to sleep sooner than it should.

Try rebooting your phone. If the problem still exists, then i assume that a factory data reset will solve it. Not sure though.
